Marco Pierre White Steak & Alehouse Ratings and Reviews
Excellent first visit
The restaurant is cosy and comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere. The food we had was well presented and very good. We had great service and our waiter had a lovely sense of humour! My partner and I took advantage of the Opentable discount so even better value. We will be dining there again later in December and very much look forward to our next experience.

I made my booking on open table and on the day before I called in as I had lost my reservation number which was given to me, I was told that my booking had not been made on their website despite recieving a phone call from the restaurant 2days before to confirm my booking. so i had to be booked on the next available table which was 2hours later than the original time. Fell well below expectations. Had the set 3 course menu for £23.50. Goats cheese and beetroot starter- nice but they were VERY sparing with the goats cheese. Paid £8 supplement for ribeye steak- chewy and lots of fat and bits that got stuck in my teeth- very disappointed. Had to pay additional £4 for any sides as nothing except sauce came with the steak. Pecan pie dessert a bit too sweet. Cheesecake and dark chocolate options were actually terrible- flavourless cheesecake with overly sour berries and overly bitter chocolate. Otherwise good service and nice ambiance but terribly disappointed by food- would actively not recommend.
Great service, good food
The service was excellent, extremely friendly and overall top class. The food was very tasty, although the menu is not vast. Vegetarians are limited (but it is a steak house after all). I thought the price of the food was a bit much compared to the taste/size of meals. But still very good quality cooking. Couldn't ser any disabled access, but assumed there was. Not child friendly, in my opinion (and they would need to eat adult portions anyway). Would go again, but only for a special occasion.
an outstanding eating exoerience
with the exception of a small booking issue (I booked for 3 but they were only expecting 2) which was sorted very quickly the entire dining experience was fantastic. The staff were helpful and attentive without being overbearing, the ambience was perfect (I particularly like the way the tables are set for couples), and the food was outstanding. I will definitely be eating there again.
We were upgraded to the private dining room so the evening started well. Attentive staff and lovely food. Recommend the set menu. Excellent value and a great way to experience a MPW restaurant
been here lots of times
They really nailed it this time, last time was a few years back and it was a bit Meh, but they have upped their game again and I will be back soon. Even made a vegetable dish for my guest even though there was nothing on the menu, and it looked delicious. Top marks!!
Lunch for 2 Foodies
This was our first visit to a Marco Pierre White restaurant and it did not disappoint. The steaks were tender and cooked exactly as we wanted them. The choice of sides was excellent and quality and presentation very good. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Always impressed with a well arranged table on fresh table linen. My dining partner and I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a high quality steak meal in an attractive environment. Do not be put off by the word Alehouse in the restaurant name. This is a classy restaurant.
Avoid! As salty as the Red Sea
I should start by saying I do like salt, in proper measure, on my meal. But I think the chef needs their taste buds testing. My husband's steak was fine, but my salmon was ruined by being oversalted. The main culprit was the broccoli (I know what you're thinking, who on earth can't cook broccoli). It was supposed to have been dressed in almond butter, but just tasted of salt and nothing else. Having sent it back TWICE the chef eventually decided to taste this butter (something the person who made it clearly hadn't) and, we are told, threw the batch away. However, by that point our taste buds had been burnt away. The waiter kindly didn't charge us for the broccoli, and yes I'm being sarcastic as they still charged for the other elements that we frankly could no longer enjoy. The manager gave us an email address to complain to (we have) but this is most unsatisfactory in terms of customer service. I could still only taste salt 34 hours later! Avoid, people, avoid!

Fantastic as usual.
Fantastic as usual.
amazing evening, would recomend
I came here with my girlfriend for our anniversary as both love steak and wanted to try somewhere slightly more special. Couldn't be happier with our choice! The food was amazing as expected and the service was really top notch. Marco our waiter was great, he even gave his opinion on the wines and we ended up with a lovely bottle. Would definitely come back again
A big disappointment!
We were really looking forward to dining here and invited 2 friends who have just arrived in London. What a disaster. From the start to the finish of the meal, we dealt with a supercilious, rude and snobbish waiter, average, unappealing food presented in a very bland and unispired manner, and uncomfortably hot conditions in the restaurant itself. This is not fine dining and I would not recommend it to anyone who wanted value for money. A tiny bowl of shredded lettuce leaves cost £4.50 and the thrice cooked chips (you only got 5 of them) cost the same. Your order of steak comes as the only thing on the plate with a tiny little serve of bearnaise sauce. Not generous and nothing special or memorable. Perhaps the most negative comment I would make relates to our waiter who was so rude to us, that my husband made some remarks to him at the end of the meal. The waiter was not at all interested in helping or serving us with the professionalism you would expect in a MP White restaurant. We were very disappointed and our friends felt the same way.
Great as always. Will definitely be booking again. Always a pleasure.
Food and service and ambience second to none
We visited for my daughters graduation supper. The restaurant décor is fabulous, we were welcomed and taken straight to our table and the service was excellent all night. Nothing was too much trouble and the waiter was only too pleased to give recommendation on selections. The food was served promptly and was absolute perfection. It is quite probably one of the best meals I've ever had.
Great place for a lovely steak
Had a lovely meal at Marco Pierre White's steakhouse near Liverpool street . Starter of gravadlax was excellent and it was followed by beautifully cooked steaks. Sides were excellent too, only suggestion would be that the steak ought to come with something, eg, a salad garnish/grilled mushroom or tomato, as once you start adding more than one side dish (eg a potato option and some green leaf salad) the sides, combined with the steak itself, your meal becomes quite expensive.
A major disappointment
For a Steakhouse, they should do it better. Of our party of four, two (the smart ones) ordered the beef bourguignon, and while not ecstatic, they agreed it was OK . One, an older lady, ordered the rib eye and while she said it tasted fine, I could see her struggling to cut it. I ordered the 12 oz. sirloin, medium rare. It arrived raw in the center, had gristle running through it and was generally tough and chewy. Was it because we took advantage of the 50% off Mains offer? Does MPW have two levels of quality? One has to wonder. The service was very good. Just wish the food had been better.
Good food, friendly waiter, shame about manager
Steak was beautiful, and cannot complain about the food or our friendly waiter. The reiple cooked chips were recommended to me, and they did not disappoint. What wasn't so great is the manager kept us waiting 40 minutes, until he decided he was able to accept our Wowcher voucher as it was, rather than his appauling offer to deduct the money I had already paid off of the Al la carte menu (which could have likely run close to another £100 being spent). Whilst keeping us waiting, he did not offer us a drink (and we went on a very clamy night, pre-storm). We were offered no other discounts or gestures of good will. If it hadn't been for my friend arguing our point, we would not have got what we paid for. I felt the managers attitude was poor. It was not as though we weren't there to spend money! We were on the verge of walking out by the time he changed his mind. It really put a damper on our evening - an evening of celebration. Whilst there, we saw another couple having a similar difficulty with the manager.
Cannot give a review as
Cannot give a review as when we got to restaurant we were told that we had no reservation even though we had booked, unfortunately I did not take the booking email with me so had no proof of the booking and they were fully booked so could not fit us in. Extremely disappointed as this was for a 50th birthday celebration
This is a great restaurant for a business lunch. The service was outstanding and the food and wines were delicious. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants good food and great service .
Lovely ambience and very good food and service
Three of us ate here, not been before but have been to Marco at Chelsea FC ground which was excellent so some expectation. Not disappointed thankfully, i had the beetroot starter and guests the salt beef salad both nicely presented good size portions very tasty indeed. Next i had fishcakes which were superb and the others shared a Boston chop which is a ribeye bone in. The waiter suggested having it medium as there is quite a bit of fat in a ribeye cut. They chose med rare as normal but in fact the waiter was (of course) correct. However they ate the steak as is and it was delicious but yes perhaps a little more medium might melt the fat a bit more. Sadly no room for desserts beaten !! Service excellent only gripe was not enough choices for single glasses of red available and at £12 for the one i had is a bit pricey for jo public but fine i am sure fine for the numerous business users on a nice expense account.
Didn't match expectations
Visited restaurant for lunch which has very good ambience and service. Beetroot starter was delicious. Fillet and ribeye steaks lacked flavour although chips were nicely cooked. Extra charges for bread and side dishes. Wine prices start pretty high with very limited availability by glass. Quite poor value even after 50% discount on mains.
Set menu - extras required
This is a reasonable restaurant and the service was ok. My disappointment and mediocre score is due to the unexpected limitation of the set menu which turned out not to be a great deal. I booked the £23.50 set menu after seeing this offer on opentable. Although the menu was available the choices were very limited and if you wanted steak then there was a £6 supplement. Any vegetables... that will be another £4.... tea/coffee.. another £3.50. All in all a good evening - just a little more expensive than i had planned.

Great service & food as always. Mother was hpappy to celebrate Mother's Day there!
Overpriced, below average quality
A colleague and I took some clients to MPW Steak house. The parfait was fine, and the prawn cocktail OK. Nothing special. For mains we all chose versions of the fillet steak. Mine was incredibly tough, I've had better rump cuts from Mthan this fillet. Judging from the difficulty our guests also seemed to have in cutting their steaks, it appeared we all had a similarly poor piece of meat. It is always uncomfortable complaining in front of guests/clients, who you want to feel relaxed, hence I said nothing, and I fear that is what happens to many parties who go here, due to the nature of the place. in terms of service, we had to repeatedly request a spoon for one of the side dishes, and the waiter seemed to have great difficulty in pouring a single glass of wine without leaving drips all over the table cloth and menus. Overall, a poor and rather expensive experience and one I never intend to repeat.
Been coming here since it opened in 2008, and it keeps getting better, food is always outstanding steaks are easy to replicate not easy to prefect plus they have London's best Sticky toffee pudding it is a must, Service never lets you down always very friendly and responsive when there's a problem, and now with endless deals in place, great value for lunches and early suppers as well as that special evening meal. All round a great choice for meat lovers big and small, is a charming and non-pretentious place hidden in the city....which always delivers.
The service was excellent

Great steaks & good value with 50% off. Desserts were also good. Friendly and efficient service, perfect for lunch
This is a regular haunt for business lunches, with great steaks in a pleasant environment. Close to Liverpool Street Station, I'm very happy to recommend.
We had the 3 courses and cocktail for £39.50 and it was totally worth it!
Mouth-wateringly expensive, despite 50% discount
After a rather strange experience when the restaurant called me to "confirm" my booking, by telling me that they only had availability for 2 people when we had booked for 8 through Opentable, where a little "insistence" was necessary to get them to honour the booking, we had a very nice meal in a good environment. One of the party said his steak was the best he ever had, and everyone liked their meat. The starters were also well liked, though a few of us thought the chips and fries were disappointing. There definitely should have been more sauce to go with the steak. One tiny little pot of pepper sauce was woefully inadequate for a 10oz steak for example. It was nice sauce though. Overall the food was good and the steak itself very good and we all had a nice time with excellent service. We had thought that the 50% off mains would make the meal more affordable, but it turns out that it didn't apply to the side orders (chips, veg, onion rings etc.), only to the meat on its own. It therefore made a small dent in our bill which was still well over £500 for 8 people even after the offer was applied. That was a shock and still feels like a lot, so I'm not sure we'll be rushing back.

Loved the food and ambience and overall a lovely experience
Surprised Let Down
This was a special ocassion so my treat for my son went horribly wrong. We were delayed in arriving and had rang ahead to inform them, however they still seemed put out by this. I specifically asked for a special table for 2 and were placed in an undesirable place which was very cold and draughty and we had to move after the first course. The restaurant was not busy so the level of service was also disappointing, as was the tableware and glassware all rather basic & lacking finesse. Ale house it isn't!! We expected a range of ales as the misleading title "Steak & Alehouse" suggested. Not a single ale in sight in fact all bottled beers ! The Kipper pate starter was pleasant but nothing special with an offering of melba toast insufficient for the portion of pate. We ordered the overly expensive sirloin steak at £27 and unable to eat it , or even cut it, it was so tough. Onion rings looked delicious but failed the taste and crunch test. Triple cooked chips were dry limp and cold. Unfortunately for us I had a tight schedule and tickets for a matinee performance so due to the fact that no waiter had come to check the meal was OK I was then too late to send back the steak and wait for another to be cooked. They were apologetic about the steak and removed it from my bill but missed the fact that I left a restaurant really hungry and still paid £112 for the privilege of a 2 course meal with a bottle of wine and two bottled beers. A truly disappointing expensive experience.
Marco Pierre White Steak & Alehouse
Good steak - well organised for a party of 20... Steaks were well cooked...
Food was amazing but....
My husband and I went to this restaurant for our wedding anniversary and although I cannot fault the food as it was perfect, we were disappointed in the service and there was no atmosphere in the restaurant. Our waitress was a little more concerned about waiting on the bigger tables, the predominant noise sounded like a dishwasher being unloaded, some soft music would have been nice! Maybe it would be better with a larger group. It was not an all bad experience, I would go back with friends, just not a place to go for a romantic meal.
Laurent Perrier Pink Champagne
Only one small disappointment, we took family there for special occasion and I had saved to order a bottle of LPR as a surprise, and the waiter said that there was not any in stock and offered Prossecco. But other than that the overall experience was excellent
Great place to eat, food is amazing, we enjoy it every time.
