On the beautiful banks of the River Cam, Marco Pierre White Restaurant Bar & Grill is one of the most talked about restaurants in the historic university city of Cambridge. A lengthy bank of sparklingly clean windows give diners a very special outlook towards the gently flowing waters while the aubergine and lime crushed velvet upholstery and faux-leather padded walls and designer lighting provide a touch of modern glamour to the interior of the welcoming, comfortable dining room. From low key business lunches to romantic dinners the relaxed but upmarket MPW provides a wonderfully atmospheric, unpretentious setting complementing fine modern European food and impeccably professional service. Classic dishes are given a delicious twist on the MPW lunch and dinner menus while classical afternoon teas are a real treat for special occasions or for visitors seeking a truly British experience with a splash of modern styling.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Booked in for a romantic dinner. lovely location and restaurant, ordered our food which took over 1 hour and 15 minutes to be served. The managers excuse was they were busy which in my opinion was not satisfactory."

  • "Sunday lunch is always a buffet carvery. The main course is a fairly standard, but nicely done roast. Pudding is from a selection of cold patisseries, which are usually excellent. There is a starter of some seafood, pate or soup with freshly baked bread. Overall the food is good - as roasts go it's really well done, though there isn't really a wow factor. Service was excellent."

  • "A good venue for meeting friends and family for a meal out with views of the river,The car park is expensive but the fee is sometimes refundable"

  • "Twice, I had some society formals here which wasn't so brilliant. But my individual booking for a group of friends was amazing. The deal we had was already good but the food was actually amazing that I was really impressed. I think it was really understated.."

  • "My favourite place in Cambridge - wonderful setting, great food with some unusual choices. And not expensive either. The service is impeccable. We eat here every time we are in Cambridge - wonderful!"

  • "Food was great and so was service. Unfortunately could not linger over coffee as air conditioning was on and temperatures were freezing...."

  • "I found the place absoluotely anonimous, With no athmosphere. I ordered smoked salmon ( 3 very littlevslice but giod) , sole fish , thinking that sole in Uk is alway good. Well,it was open in two ,but with the fishbone left but the worst thing was the it was previously cooked and re-heat! I am a very good good I perfectly know something with expresso cooking or not. My glass of champagne: no bubble and not chilled enought ! It was the worth sole I have never had in my life ! I definitively will not reccomend this place ... The only positive sides: the italian waiter , very professional ,kind .I understand why it was one of the few restaurant available on Sat evening ..."

  • "The place is wonderfully placed on the river, the room, and seating is spacious, the service was exceptional. The menu we saw on the 'toptable' web site promised a wide range of foods, the menu on the night, was disappointing. We were on a special weekend away and wanted something special for the evening meal, the menu not live up to the ambience, or the service."

  • "Very enjoyable lunch. Would recommend this restaurant."

  • "Service was slow and inaccurate. Salmon starter was forgotten. Camel was late but tasty and excellent. Green salad without onion came late, and with onion. Ostrich was tough. Lemon sole could have been hotter. Sirloin steak was enormous. Sea bass was good. Surf and Turf: pork belly was good, crab was OK, but noodles were over-cooked. Venison was OK, but could have been hotter. Also, in the bar beforehand service was slow there. I know this bar was in Cambridge, and not the North-East, but bar staff should be taught that Newcastle Brown Ale is never served with a pint glass, but with a half-pint glass that allows the drinker to refresh the head of the beer!!"

  • "When we arrived the waiter seemed put out and seemed to think the booking was for a different day, although we'd received a confirmation Email. The staff were busy moving chairs and tables around and showed little interest in us, although it was our daughter's graduation as I'd told them. The staff looked disgruntled and were not smartly dressed. The noise the staff made and the upheaval made it difficult to enjoy the meal. We did not stay for dessert as we just wanted to get away I was so disappointed that it was not what I expected for our family. I will never go there again."

  • "After reading some previous comments, I have to agree that the quality of food at the Sunday lunch buffet was excellent, the beef especially tender. And the appetisers lovely- especially the seafood. The only drawback was the queue for the food, I think it would have helped to have two people carving.. Do not hesitate to book here for a lovely meal looking over the cam, punters and ducks."

  • "Lovely setting but food was poor, underseasoned generally had the impression of being heated up and brought out rather than cooked to order. Overpriced for what you get. Novelty menu seemed a bit of a gimmick - Python tempura seemed mostly tempura with hardly any meat. Venison main seemed to consist of a few thin slices from a larger joint, pre-cooked, and some slices so thin they were not even whole slices. Didn't bother with desert. Staff friendly but overall, pretty disappointing."

  • "Some of the best beef I've ever had. Service was amazing. Friendly, helpful, made suggestions without being pushy. Excellent!"

  • "We were a little worried about going to a hotel restaurant but that was proven unwarranted. Exceptional service and the right level of attentiveness combined with excellent food makes this one of the nicest meals I've had in a long time, if not ever. The fillet steak was truly fantastic"

  • "Good meal Slightly smaller portions than the a la carte - but otherwise a good meal generally."
    dined on 10/05/2013
  • "We had been here before but had not had the set menu. I had duck for the main course but it was very dry and this was made worse by the more than generous helping of lentils that soaked up any remaining moisture on the plate. The wine was very expensive."
    dined on 04/05/2013
  • "Rather average carvery meal. You help yourself to starter - small portion about 10 tiny prawns one spoonful iceberg lettuce and one splash of sauce or a soup or a pâté. The carvery meat was good quality but vegetables uninspiring and not that hot, roasties soggy. Puddings standard catering pack fare of usual suspects - cheesecakes, chocolate cake etc. Rather atmosphere of 60's school dining room unless you are seated at one of window view tables with lovely view or river. Noisy so hard to enjoy conversations"
    dined on 31/03/2013
  • "With the 25% discount, two of us were able to enjoy 3 courses and a digestif each for £65. Lovely atmosphere, warm welcome, good food and nice surroundings. Recommended."
    dined on 29/03/2013
  • "It has a 'hotelly' atmosphere, as it is situated in The Hilton right in the centre of Cambridge. Parking is free for 3 hours which was only just enough for our party. Service was very good and the value was fine with a deal giving 25% off the bill. The food was good on the whole, though my huband's sirloin steak was tough."
    dined on 22/03/2013
  • "Visited on a Saturday in February - had a superb lunch and very attentive staff. Both relaxing and enjoyable Thank you!"
    dined on 23/02/2013
  • "This was our second visit to the Brasserie and didn't think it came up to the standard of the previous one. The service was spot on but the food needed a little extra attention - a bit of contrasting colour with the main course and served hotter. We were on the 25% off offer so the final bill was OK but we wouldn't have been prepared to pay the full price for the meal."
    dined on 08/02/2013
  • "Everything is prefect, but it's hard to find as it is inside the hotel! :)"
