L'EscargotFabulous, we were looked afterFabulous, we were looked after and made to feel very special.
Food and surroundings fantastic.18/05/2013 00:00:00I had organsed a night inI had organsed a night in london with my wife for our annversary so I was was looking for romantic, chic and understated. It's not something we have been able to do before so I wanted it to be really special. L'Escargot was all of these. From the way we were welcomed, given a corner table and seated more side by side than opposite (very initimate) to the highly professional service (unseen yet there exactly when you needed something) and beautifully repsented, delicious food. Plus an Impressive wine list. This is going to become my go to restaurant for pre-theatre à deux or for a group of friends who appreciate elegance.17/05/2013 00:00:00c'est magnifique!i along with my partner attended l'escargot on friday for our 3 year anniversary dinner prior to watching les miserables. they hostess was as polite as could be, sat us at a cute table in the corner and looked after us as if we were v.i.p.'s all round amazing dining experience i thought it was a little pricey but not beyond the taste and quality of the food so its reassuringly expensive!17/05/2013 00:00:00Pre-theatre dinnerThis restaurant is great for pre-theatre. The service is quite formal, but friendly and efficient. Arriving at 6.00, we had 3 courses and coffee, and made it to a 7.30 play easily and without stress. There is a set menu which was well priced; we chose a la carte. Oysters were excellent, vegetarian option (croustillant of tomato and artichoke) was delicious and imaginative. The rib eye steak was perfectly executed. Price was very reasonable...around 100GBP for two including yummy Rioja.16/05/2013 00:00:00Good food, good service, goodGood food, good service, good value. What more could one ask for.11/05/2013 00:00:00complex contradictionAt the heart of this theatre land, French stalwart is a striking contradiction: the dazzling modern art and sparkling, Swarovski toothed, gold plated tyrannosaurus skull is offset nicely by the very efficient, unobtrusive service which is warm and yet reserved. The respectful staff gracefully yield centre stage to the immaculately presented and delicately flavoured food which is uniformly excellent. Save some room for the well-balanced dessert.06/05/2013 00:00:00Saturday night dinnerWe tried everything new. French onion soup, Escargot, frog legs, fresh oysters, rabbit legs, and lobster, smoked eels. Unbelievably good for the value. 8 people for £ 214, less than £ 26 each at a 5 star restaurant. The only problem was parking, so take a taxi to go there. I'll go there again and again. I prefer it better than any theatre around. Just try it you'll love it and the quality of service was unmatchable not even in France. Men's toilet on the same level very clean, and women toilet upstairs.04/05/2013 00:00:00L'EscargotAn old favourite restored to glory after some dodgy patches in the past. Smoothly elegant.01/05/2013 00:00:00PeacefulA lovely mirrored dining room. Excellent friendly service and food just great. Had pre-theatre meal. I chose the chicken which was great and my husband chose salmon, but his meal was considerably smaller than mine.25/04/2013 00:00:00A real changeWe booked this as a meal to celebrate my birthday for a real change to the usual meal out. The ambience was really pleasant, the atmosphere just right. We had a corner table for 2 and sat at 90 degrees to each other which was a real change from sitting opposite each other. A good menu and a very good wine choice. Made a real change and I would recommend. Miro's on the wall were a plus point too!20/04/2013 00:00:00Food & StaffThe food was lovely and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.19/04/2013 00:00:00A really nice evening at L'EscargotWe were deliberately going out to enjoy a meal rather than eating pre or post theatre. The food was excellent, the service was good, nice relaxed atmosphere and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable all round. It was our first visit and we will be recommending it to friends.19/04/2013 00:00:00Warm glow of a restaurantSuch a nice restaurant. Excellent, truly excellent food - familiar with an almost exotic but certainly imaginative twist, great flavour combinations. Really good staff. A beautiful place to eat, really great ambience. Admittedly it was not packed, and this makes a huge difference - I have been there when it was completely full, and then it is pretty noisy and difficult to hear what people are saying, but less full is wonderful. One could wish for a less pricey wine list - the only blot on true excellence. But I will be remembering to put this restaurant much higher up my list of favourite restaurants in future15/04/2013 00:00:00Superb!Fantastic service, food, staff - just a lovely evening. We treated ourselves as it was a birthday present, and we were not disappointed. Thank you!13/04/2013 00:00:00fabulous restaurant and great valueExcellent service, delicious food and great location for the theatre - highly recommended12/04/2013 00:00:00Never disappointedThis is the 4 th time I have eaten here. The staff are friendly and have none of the pomposity of some other French restaurants in town. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is superb. I am piscatarian but often prefer to eat vegetarian and the options are excellent. Value for money is really understating the case......we ate 3 courses, my fellow diner drank wine, and then we had offees and petit ours, yet together with the service charge, our bill came to £60!! I defy anyone to find any top returnable cheaper!11/04/2013 00:00:00Fabulous food at amazing valueWe ate at the restaurant before going to see Les Miserables and chose the pre theatre three course menu for £19.50. All three courses were elegant and refined, beautifully presented and extremely tasty. My 12-year old son also loved the food and the staff made him feel especially welcome. Beautiful surroundings, excellent menu and tasty food. You couldn't ask for more!10/04/2013 00:00:00Delicious Food and Great AtmosphereThe food was delicious and very well presented. The value for the quality of food was outstanding. The service could have been a little bit faster considering we have chosen the pre-theatre menu just before seeing a show and although it was almost next door, we hardly made it to the beginning. However; I would definitely recommend dining at this restaurant as long as you haven't got a very limited time. Great restaurant. One of my favorites in London.09/04/2013 00:00:00Lunch ...Perfect ... see the star ratings I give; the set menu is very good value
L'Escargot is always my first choice for lunch with special friends. (Now all i need is more special friends!)08/04/2013 00:00:00Great food / great ServiceGreat food / great Service / nice ambience and food was fantastic ..will be back again. £120 for 3 meals , 2 bottles water and a bottle of plonk.
Very well laid out and plenty of tables for a busy evening...
Prompt service would definately return , several times I suspect!06/04/2013 00:00:00heart of sohoas good as I remembered it from many years ago. very good value for a top restaurant and their cave is better than many trendy newer restaurants and the sommelier was outstanding.
also the great art , huge original lithographs, from miro, chagal, picasso etc, better than the emperor's new clothes elsewhere06/04/2013 00:00:00Good menu with the food beingGood menu with the food being well presented and of high quality. Drinks perhaps a little pricey.06/04/2013 00:00:00Old school excellent serviceOld school excellent service mixed with great food. Escargot has been doing it for years and it's still one of the best spots in London.05/04/2013 00:00:00First visitWe were looking for a pre-theatre dinner and found L'Escargot on line, the food, service and value for money were first class.03/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely pre theatre treatWe tried to get into Joel Rubechon but I'm very glad we couldn't! I hadn't been to Escargot for years and I'd forgotten how nice it is. The staff were excellent and the pre theatre menu very good value - "proper" food, beautifully presented and very tasty. We will make this one of our regular haunts from now on.29/03/2013 00:00:00Outstanding service and foodExcellent food, - the haddock in particular, was delightful.
Service was impeccable.29/03/2013 00:00:00Good Value Set MenuWe had the London Restaurant Fortnight set menu which was good value for £25. Well cooked food served in elegant surroundings.28/03/2013 00:00:00Ate from the 'London RestaurantAte from the 'London Restaurant Fortnight' menu for £25 for 3 courses. The food was great value and high quality. Staff were really friendly and welcoming and made us feel at ease throughout the meal. We ordered probably the cheapest wine from the menu (£19), but still tasted good quality. Woulld definitely recommend for a romantic meal or catch up with friends.26/03/2013 00:00:00The Haddock was delicious,The Haddock was delicious, the Panacotta was amazing and the freebies served with the coffee were just to die for.26/03/2013 00:00:00excellentthis restaurant is outstanding -food was excellent and service very good. For us a very good quotation.
we are very happy that we discovered this restaurant- Excellent balance price /quality.26/03/2013 00:00:00A nice welcome, great serivceA nice welcome, great serivce and excellent food. Would recommend this restaurant.26/03/2013 00:00:00Wonderful steak! We used top table to book because according to their information, we could have the London Restaurant Fortnight deal on the Saturday evening but only to find that their info was WRONG and we ended up paying almost double the price we expected. Not the restaurant's fault but Toptable got it wrong. Fab food however, would certainly return, but perhaps book directly!23/03/2013 00:00:00Good food and serviceWe had a very good evening with good food and outstanding, charming, flexible service in a lovely room. I would not hesitate to go back and would recommend it wholeheartedly.23/03/2013 00:00:00L'Escargot another fantastic mealWe had a pre theatre meal which was fantastic. The staff make you feel comfortable, special and are very efficient. The food was stunning and good size portions. The wine was fabulous and well priced. I cannot wait to return, honestly we could not find any faults and we are not easily pleased!23/03/2013 00:00:00London restaurant fortnight reviewGood value deal for a top class London restaurant.
Only small downside was that the tables for those on the deal were in a separate part to the main restaurant but the food on the menu was excellent and I would recommend it.
A great French cheese plate as one of the dessert options too.21/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent service !!!We asked for a quiet table for two as it was our anniversary dinner. The staff put us next to a beautiful window with only one table next to us so we had all the privacy we asked for. The scenery was very nice, even though maybe just a bit too dark. The service was fantastic, the waiters and the maitre d' were absolutely charming and very attentive to all our needs. As for the food, I ordered a salmon which was delicious and the tagliatelle were very good, even though I normally don't like pesto. As a French person, I absolutely recommend this French restaurant to anyone who loves nice cuisine. I will definitely come back !21/03/2013 00:00:00Up to expectations! Our pre theatre visit fulfilled all our aspirations. A warm welcome, unstuffy but very efficient unobtrusive service and excellent food on the special offer 3 course menu. Good value for a restaurant of this calibre in this location. Very drinkable wines at reasonable (ish) prices. Altogether an enjoyable experience and splendid start to our theatre trip.21/03/2013 00:00:00great food, reasonably pricedPleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and wine, I know a lot of restauarants that charge significantly more and struggle to match this.20/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent eveningL'Escargot has a lovely high quality ambience- high quality and professional but relaxed and very un-stuffy. You know you are in top-quality restaurant where high standards of everything are expected and are maintained, but it is very accessible and comfortable. The menu, food and wine were excellent, the service perfect - welcoming, friendly, attentive and entirely appropriate and service oriented. We couldn't fault it and would recommend it unreservedly. And it doesn't cost the earth.19/03/2013 00:00:00L'Escargot lived up to expectationsL'Escargot lived up to expectations as a top class restaurant, with wonderful food and first-rate service.19/03/2013 00:00:00Solid and reliable stalwartSolid and reliable stalwart of Soho scene, a little bit of class and decadence hidden away, always love eating there.11/03/2013 00:00:00Very attentive staff and lovelyVery attentive staff and lovely atmosphere. Food not bad at all.07/03/2013 00:00:00Great food and service!I had dinner at L'Escargot last Tuesday and it was delicious. I ordered the 'Severn & Wye Smoked Salmon, Pickled Shallots, Horseradish Cream, Capers & Blinis' to start, followed by '8 oz Ribeye Steak, Hand Cut Chips' and finally the 'Classic Blueberry & Custard Tart with Espuma Cream' for dessert - all washed down with the recommended wines. The service was excellent, the waiters were knowledgeable and polite. I will definitely return!05/03/2013 00:00:00We had a lovely meal fromWe had a lovely meal from the pre-theatre menu. Perfect for the start of the evening.02/03/2013 00:00:00Great time at L'Escargot forGreat time at L'Escargot for my birthday. Had a great table of 8 downstairs. Would recommend for special occaions or as part of a deal.01/03/2013 00:00:00Varied menu which cateredVaried menu which catered for all our party and the service was both polite and discrete service.23/02/2013 00:00:00Above and beyond!I booked a table for 6 as a birthday surprise for my partner before a show. Even though we were 3 couples and arranged thusly, the waiters moved round to take the ladies' orders first! It was so incredibly old-fashioned and polite, I've NEVER seen waiting staff go so far to be courteous. I had the frogs' legs and lobster linguine which were both terrific - starter a bit bland maybe, in a parsley sauce and thought it could have done with a kick as the meat doesn't have much flavour. Anyway, the BEST bit - unbeknownst to us the waiters had written "Happy Birthday" on a plate in chocolate for dessert, but we ran out of time before the show, so they brought the plate out with a tiny chocolate with a candle in it! Best service I've ever recieved23/02/2013 00:00:00ReviewBeautiful food at reasonable prices. Ambience great. Service excellent with just right level of attention.23/02/2013 00:00:00From the greeting by the receptioniFrom the greeting by the receptionist to the coat-collecting at the conclusion, everything worked as it should. There is an olde-world charm about L'Escargot, appealing to 2 oldies such as my wife and myself, but nothing decrepit nor worthy of criticism. We had Haricot Bean soup - excellent flavour - and frogs legs to start, followed by Red Mullet, and Roast Chicken, both cooked to perfection and each accompanied by a small amount of vegetable. I would have enjoyed the spinach more if it had been pureed, rather that served as soggy leaf, but no serious complaint.
We have eaten there on previous occasions and will certainly return.19/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent all round - couldExcellent all round - could not have asked for a nicer everning. Food Wonderful, Service outstanding and very welcoming and excellent value
Give it a go you cannot go wrong16/02/2013 00:00:00
