  • "Took my partner for his Birthday dinner. Great value - TopTable deal 3-courses £28. My cheese souffle was amazing and his steak was 9 out of 10. No music so it was a bit quiet but after a few wines it started to get more atmospheric. Overall a great find! Will go back for Toptable steak offer."

  • "I have dined at Le Vacherin many times and I've always wanted to return. Alas, no longer. We were there for lunch and though we had opted for the two-course prix-fixe menu, all the dishes we ordered are also on the menu à la carte and should presumably be of a similar standard. We ordered the chateaubriand (incurring a £15 supplement), a dish that I have had at least five times at Le Vacherin and which I have always looked forward to. This time however, I was bitterly disappointed. The only thing right with the dish was the rareness of the meat. Also, they now serve chips, not delicate pommes frites. Everything else was cold and the sauce béarnaise, congealed. We weren't charged the supplement but still! I hope this was a one-off."

What a great deal, the food is amazing, you feel like you're in France having a quiet romantic meal, the restaurant was pretty busy especially for a Monday night. Highly recommend to everyone. Lovely local spot in Chiswick. I tried snails for the first time too!"

  • "You would think the French would know how to cook Chateaubriand, it appears not. Ours were not seasoned at all and virtually tasteless, I might as well have gone to Tesco and got one of their value cuts. Most of the menu (even though it was a Tuesday Lunchtime) was not available, and in the 15 minutes before ordering 3 updates (removals) were also given leaving the dinning choices extremely limited for what was supposed to be a very special occasion (my wifes 40th). The cutlery was dirty and had to be changed twice, and the glasses were chipped and again had to be replaced. Seemed popular with the locals, but this isn't a place I would recommend or every go to again. Very poor despite the good reviews."

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant within the space of a year, and it was just a good. The food is wonderful and the service very good; we were not hurried. It is fine dining just on the edge of Chiswick. The portions were not big but that meant you could have 3 courses and feel comfortably full. W choose from the set menu (£28) and with wine and water each paid about £40. We will definitely go back."

It was much fancier than I expected, especially considering the price of the deal we decided to go for (£11.95 for steak, chips and a glass of wine). The service was excellent and the food was superb. I can highly recommend the tart tatin to share for pud! If I went again, I'd go for a special occasion to make the most of the extensive (and slightly pricier) menu."

  • "Friday evening at Le Vacherin was busy: hardly surprising with the £28 offer. A choice of 6 starters, mains and puddings would satisfy most tastes. I opted for the twice-baked cheese soufflé which was light and tasty, while my partner had the chicken liver parfait: delicious. We both had the cod to follow which could have been better seasoned. For pudding I had the chocolate pot which was rather heavy but still good, while partner choose the amazing sorbets. A superb Sancerre accompanied the meal."

  • "We organised a dinner for 14 at Le Vacherin in Chiswick. The food as usual was very good. Great atmosphere also, but much busier than I thought it would be for a Monday evening. The service was very slow. We waited a very long time for the starters, maybe because we ordered a few Vacherin, which were exquisite but took ages to land on the table. The Gigondas and Pouilly Fume were excellent. Great evening all round."

  • "I booked this restaurant for a party of 6 based on a search of restaurants near Kew but north of the Thames. (We were attending the Christmas at Kew event.) The web information was good and the experience was every bit of the web description. There was a good choice on the menu for all tastes, a good wine list, if a little pricey! The service was good but not intrusive. I have no hesitation in recommending the Le Vacherin. It is not situated in my normal "dining area" but I am sure I can think of some reason to visit again!"

Two complimentary glasses of wine and a profuse apology followed but it spoilt the evening. Shame bcse it's a great restaurant with terrific food. For that reasons it is also very busy, so noise levels (this was a Saturday evening) can be challenging for some. Levels of service have always been good on previous visits."

  • "This is one of our neighbourhood restaurants that we like. I just love the atmosphere here every time - calm but buzzing, a relaxed luxury feel without the stuffiness. Some intersting characters dine here too. Our chateaubriand was juicy and cooked on the rare side of medium rare, but not really something to complain about, as it was still tasty. The only disappointing bit was the bone marrow, which for some reason lacked the intensity that I was expecting. Overall a good experience, and we will keep going back."

I took my husband and 2 yr old son for lunch for my husband's birthday. We had the steak and frites menu, which was great. They cooked a special meal for my son (not set up for children's meals really, but I was pleased they made an effort). The steak was wonderful and really great value. Love the atmosphere too."

  • "We returned to Le Vacherin after a positive experience earlier this year. We won't be going back. The food is fine - quite good even - but utterly undermined by the speed and quality of the service. Eggs benedict were brought luke-warm, pate was fridge-freezing cold. The main courses were good, although the extras were over-priced and poorly cooked. The desserts were a low-point. Pretty tasteless crumble 'couldn't' be served with cream instead of crème anglaise, despite the fact it came separately. The cheese board was three minuscule slices - Vacherin not included! When the bill came, the one glass of wine ordered (a very ordinary Albarino) was a hugely marked-up £10. When queried, the waiter's English appeared to desert him. Poor."

  • "Took my parents and we had the most fantastice meal. The staff are brilliant and the food was impecable. I cannot recommend this place higly enough! The steak is always cooked perfectly - we had the rump and it looked more like a fillet to me! On the three course set menu there are still lots of choices and the cheese is to die for! This is the third time I have visited and I will definately be going back! A real treat!"

  • "Had a lovely evening for our wedding anniversary using Top Table vouchers (excellent value for money). The special Top Table menu offered a very good selection. We both took the escargots as starter and they were very nice. After that we chose the Chateaubriand for 2. One small problem: the tables are so close together that the waiter had to slice our chateaubriand and arrange it on the plates quite far from us. He was also constantly bumped into by the other waiters rushing past him. As we had chosen quite a "blue" cooking option for the meat it came to our table less warm than I would have liked. Nevertheless the meat, garniture and the sauce were perfect. Would definitely go again but maybe on a weekday to avoid the crowded atmosphere."
