A word from Le Garrick - Covent Garden
Le Garrick Restaurant located in the middle of London's theatreland is an intimate French restaurant that's a favourite with theattrical types, business people and lovers of French cuisine. There is a homely restaurant at ground level, while at lower ground level the friendly bar/dining room has intimate nooks for romantic moments. Le Garrick's menu features classics and favourites of French bistro cooking, dishes like grilled enrecote with sauce poivre and pommes frites and lemon tarte with creme fraiche among the classic desserts. The two course prix fixe menu is a lifesaver pre-theatre. The almost entirely French wine list offers wines by the carafe as well as the bottle and glass. In an area that's chockablock with chain eateries, Le Garrick is a one-off.Continued

  • "Great Ambiance with great people! Service was great!"
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "Went for a meal with my parents here and sat downstairs, which was very cosy. There's not a huge amount of room for those with very long legs, but it does add to the warm, intimate atmosphere; it would be a lovely place to take a date or for a special occasion. The service was excellent and we felt looked after but not rushed or bothered too much. The food was lovely, we shared a few starts which were all really tasty and then for mains we had steaks and beef bourguignon which were both very good. There are better value places I'm sure, but it's certainly not overpriced, either. If you're after a place with a good atmosphere then I'd definitely recommend it."

  • "Great meal at. We've been here a few times and it's always great. The staff are friendly and look like they're enjoying their jobs. The food is gorgeous and we can't wait to go back!"

  • "Came with a group of friends, great dining area downstairs. Feels private and cosy. Great steak, great desserts and really friendly staff who were relaxed and really seemed to enjoy working there. Will return."

  • "We love coming here when we come to the theatre. Great menu for pre theatre, very friendly staff, wonderful food. Recommend steak onglet and onion soup"

  • "Le Garrick is one of my favourite restaurants in London. The food is good - quality ingredients prepared into some classic French dishes. The wine list is excellent and, if your timing is good (early or late - they get a bit rushed in the middle of service), the service can be outstanding. Foie gras always needs more brioche than they think, but the steady supply of free tap water was a welcome feature. The French onion soup starter is one of the best you'll find this side of Calais."

  • "It was my fiancée's birthday and as I requested we got a really nice table by the corner: really romantic! The service was friendly, polite and not obtrusive. We ordered foigras as starter (really good the figs chutney) and then as main the duck and the mussels (both were delicious) and we finished with a dessert (chocolate pot). Just a mark: no birthday plate or similar to celebrate my fiancée's birth - when I booked the table I left a note for that - but it can happen, so thanks a million to Le Garrick for this French touch in London!!!"

  • "We were a party of four before the theatre and were greeted with a warm welcome. The menu was appetising and the wine list not overpriced. Two of the party had escargots and both pronounced them quite excellent. Elsewhere snails went down well as did the sea bream. The Picpoul de Pinet was an excellent choice for a meal largely of fish. I have been to Le Garrick a number of times and find it particularly good as a pre theatre venue. The waiting staff may not always be the same but maintain a friendly and timely service. To be recommended."

  • "We had the pre-theatre menus, which are such great value for central London. The food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive. Love this place!"

  • "Very good authentic french food in the hearth of Covent Garden, and right next to theatreland. The restaurant is very authentic, including close together tables! Third time eating here. Good food, great value."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "This restaurant has a great atmosphere with lots of hidden corners. The food is good value & never disappoints & the service is excellent. Extremely friendly staff in that part of London in a restaurant that sells good food at reasonable prices is otherwise hard to find."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "Lovely ambiente, very friendly and efficient waiter, who made us feel welcome and smile, had per-theatre meal, very limited choice, but then it is quite an inexpensive menu, however, selected onion soup was a tad too salty, the 'butchers choice' meat was ok on three plates and absolutely awful on mine: rubbery, chewy, and ill-looking. The lemon tarte was heavenly. I would go again but choose different dishes."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "Very good food. A great selection of starters and mains. Not too much choice in a good way - the classic french dishes are all there. Great atmosphere downstairs. I've have eaten twice here and wouldn't hesitate to again."

  • "Went there for a post-theatre meal & didn't expect much from what I thought was a "tourist trap" in Soho. Which is it. From what I could tell the staff were French, which was a nice touch. Luckily the place was candlelit, which was hiding the humidity stains on the wall and the apparent wires from the AC unit - ugly & probably unsafe. Finally, the food was below average. I had the duck breast, which turned out overcooked (I was told it was because I ordered it "medium", although no one warned me it would be served at the consistency of a shoe sole if I do) and swimming in an extremely sweet and oily orange sauce. I would only recommend it if you are staving and no other restaurant can seat you."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "As soon as we walked into the restaurant everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The area downstairs was full of nooks and crannies and could be a great setting for a romantic night out or just a meal with friends. As we were in a hurry with a theatre to go to, we only had one course - I will definitely be back to enjoy more of the other parts of the menu that looked interesting. The service was terrific, the choice of wine was good, and nothing was too much trouble."

  • "I haven't been to Le Garrick in years but when I went there for lunch this week it was still as good as ever. I was pleasantly surprised that a Central London restaurant can offer great food at surprisingly reasonable prices. I had to bring my 4 yr old son with me at short notice and we easily found something to suit his (picky) tastes. This really is a great place to eat in Covent Garden which isn't part of a chain and still manages to stand out from the crowd."

  • "Had a very pleasant lunch 'al fresco' thanks to our wonderful English weather for once being on our side. However I was almost sorry to leave the inside when we walked in, the aroma of the Onion soup was so good. Hard choices followed, and I never got to try that soup on this occasion, being tempted away by the siren of Scallops - which were fabulous. I ordered Onglet au poivre for main, my companion had Boeuf Bourguignon. Both turned out to be fabulous. Thanks to a foursquare first time checkin here I also ended up with a free glass of house red, which was also good stuff. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, the whole experience was one we definitely want to repeat and would recommend to others."

  • "We ate at Le Garrick prior to seeing War Horse at the theatre. The meal was delicious. It was served promptly by a delightful French waiter. We had plenty of time to enjoy the food and wine, no 'clock watching', very important. We will visit again."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Perfect for informal meals - very relaxed. Staff very attentive and friendly , only adverse comment was that the cassoulet was not the best I have had but all other dishes were fine."

  • "As ever, an excellent place to eat. Always consistent, and lovely service."
    dined on 04/03/2014
  • "It's quite a crowded restaurant and this was early evening on a Saturday. The waiting staff dashed around the place like the place was on fire. It was disconcerting to glance up while eating to see one of them bearing down on me with two plates in each hand, missing me by inches. As we were right under their noses, empty plates were snatched away without any warning before I'd even finished chewing. I did get a warning when I stood up to leave the table - a shriek from a member of staff to let me know I was in her way; on my way back to the table another waitress actually tapped me on the shoulder to step to the side so she could get past! I think the food was fine, and maybe if you're seated in a quieter area it would be OK. Good luck!"

  • "The food was saturated in garlic which is not appropriate for a pre theatre meal. Very cramped and uncomfortable."
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "First impressions were a bit foreboding, Cramped stairs led to what seemed an impossibly small table crammed in to far too small a space. However, it wasn't as bad as it first seemed... though the table was very very small. On the plus side, even though we ate at 6pm, the restaurant was busy and atmospheric. The food was good(ish) French bistro food, the service attentive, friendly and very Gallic. Overall, a pleasant meal in a lively atmosphere. Would we go back? Probably not, it is just too cramped."

  • "Went to this restaurant with a friend of mine for a catch up dinner. It was much bigger than we originally thought. Downstairs area had a nice cosy feel to it. I opted for the onion soup for starter and had steak and fries for the mains. They were reasonably sized and tasty. Everyone was friendly too. We'll be happy to go back again."

  • "I first visited in 2012 with the girls from work on a joint 30 a 50th, so decided to come back this Feb for our 10th wedding anniversary. We got a beautiful little table downstairs (avoid upstairs unless mobility issues, downstairs is beautiful). Food was filling, traditional and beautiful. Beef Bourguignon for the husband was hearty and delicious, I had the baby chicken. Bottle of Saugvignon was £18 and delicious. Beers limited to smaller bottles but the wine is lovely so leave the beer alone! We notified them of our anniversary ahead and were greeted with a champagne cocktail. Owners are very friendly and welcoming. Puddings are to die for. The fondant is rich and dark and beat me :( Will be back, with bells on!!"

  • "We had a very enjoyable Friday evening meal for 4 last week. The warm and friendly (but not obtrusive) service was excellent, as was the candlelit ambience. Perhaps not one for couples looking for an intimate, private experience as the tables are placed quite close together. I felt the food was a bit overpriced for what it was, but was understandable given the location."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Waited 20 minutes for a member of the waiting staff to acknowledge we were sitting at our table and take our drinks order, and another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Our waiter served us only when two other tables in the restaurant who had sat down after us had been served. We did not receive a bread basket at any point in the evening. I ordered moules marinere, which was, frankly, the worst bowl of mussels I have ever received. Somehow, the shallots were raw and the mussels were so overcooked they were completely shrivelled. My frites were cold and limp. When receiving the bill and asking for the service charge to be removed based on the reasons above the waiter was incredibly rude. Will not be returning."

  • "Lovely place and food, great service. The tables are very, very close together though, perhaps too close!"
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Le Garrick, despite the recent change of ownership, remains a quiet and civilised place to have a good meal at sensible prices. The alcoves downstairs are small but give privacy and reduce the noise from other diners. The service was personable and relaxed but efficient. The plates were correctly warm and the food generous and tasty. At £70 per head for a three course lunch with ample wine, port and coffees spread over nearly 3 hours, Le Garrick is a good place for a pleasant lunch away from the rush of Covent Garden."

  • "My girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere different to spend our evening for valentines day. After searching a few restaurants online, we happened to see Le Garrick's menu and thought we'd give it a try. When the night arrived we happened to be running late for our 9 o'clock reservation, and we were worried our table would be given away. After calling them and explaining the situation, they couldn't have been nicer. When we arrived 15 minutes later, we were greeted and served by their very warm and welcoming staff, and were seated within a minute. During, and after the meal that we had, we couldn't believe how good the food was, and fall in love with its atmosphere. We will definitely make a return visit in the near future"

  • "The restaurant boasts a lovely cellar style underground floor which is Great for romantic gatherings (candale light) and special hangouts with a group of friends. Be careful on the price tag though, while the website showcases a friendly priced menu, on special occasions they change the menu completely and your meal will easily go above 35£ per person. A bitter surprise for us."

  • "Typical French. First class atmosphere and staff so professional and friendly. Would certainly return."
    dined on 11/02/2014
  • "Yes, Yes, yes, ticks all the boxes if, like us, you want quality food well presented prior to your theatre visit. The menu was simple but adequate to want another visit. The meals we both had really hit the mark in every way. Cannot recommend enough, try this one soon!"

  • "Nothing fancy at this brasserie - tiny tables, paper napkins, utensils in a jug. The pre-theatre turned out to be extremely limited: either onion soup or pretty chunky, not very tasty rough pate. I hope the soup would have been a better choice. I chose the "butcher's choice", which turned out to be a steak with bernaise sauce and potatoes. A little in the thin side, but nothing to rave about. However, my wife chose the mussels with Macdonalds-type fries. She sent the back only to be replaced by mussels only marginally better. We would not return to this outlet."

  • "An infrequent visit to London was made special by having dinner at Le Garrick - great atmosphere, very helpful and competent staff who take pride in what they do - good menu options and excellent french style cooking with sensibly priced wines made for a genuinely enjoyable dining experience - a distinct rarity in the more usual over priced and could not care less attitude of the majority of eateries in London, which deter so many from returning . We will definitely include Le Garrick in our next outing to London ."
