Le Café AnglaisI have been eating at CafeI have been eating at Cafe Anglais for a number of years. The food is always good and the service is excellent. Seating is great, especially the booths.12/05/2013 00:00:00Great ExpectationsI've followed Rowley Leigh's recipes for a long time in the FT and wanted to try the restaurant. A short break in London provided the opportunity and we were not disappointed. Great reception of prosecco and the signature parmesan custard and anchovy toast. We followed this with a predominantly fish selection which was delicious. We liked the way the restaurant was set out and the way you could see the food cooking on the rotisserie. Wines were very good and the service enthusiastic but not intrusive - we were meeting old friends and had a lot to talk about. Altogether a great experience which certainly met my expectations and our friends from Dublin were very impressed.07/05/2013 00:00:00Another great celebration mealThis is the third time we have celebrated a big birthday here. Why 3 times because we've never been let down. It's great for a snack or light lunch as well.03/05/2013 00:00:00A pleasant surpriseI'd never been before but when I stepped out of the lift I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Great food, excellent service. I will definitely be going back again.22/04/2013 00:00:00Dinner with friendsFour of us. Arrived behind a group which made checking in the coats a bit slow downstairs. Efficiently shown to table and prompt attention and follow up from the waitress. Good selection of food which had something for each of us. Smooth service with good timing. Food was spot on. Faults - one G&T was in a glass with a chip (but fully replaced) and a tea got lost and needed chasing - all dealt with speedily. Table spacing was good, allowing easy conversation and the ambience and setting made for a good evening.12/04/2013 00:00:00What a nice lunchThe service was efficient but also very friendly, I loved the menu and could have chosen many things. The hors d'oeuvres remain as attractive as ever and they cooked my pigeon perfectly as requested.
This is a lovely place to dine.04/04/2013 00:00:00An alltime favouriteLunch at Le Cafe Anglais is always a treat. We were delighted that it was back on top form. Last time we came was between Christmas and New Year - and it wasn't quite as good as usual. But any restaurant can have an off day between
Christmas and New Year! We forgive you, Cafe Anglais! You are back to being our number one!01/04/2013 00:00:00Great food at Sunday LunchA last minute booking got us a table. The food proved to be excellent with the roast lamb and accompaniments was one of the best I have had in a long time!31/03/2013 00:00:00Great spot for lunch! The room was large and tables were discreetly spaced so that you could hold a discreet conversation without having to shout above other diners' conversations. Menu was interesting and varied. Food was excellently prepared. Service was professionally delivered. I'd definitely return for dinner!25/03/2013 00:00:00Always impressiveThree of us sat at the oyster bar but ordered off the main menu. The prime rib for two was divine. My pigeon was rich and so tender. Amazing service. You van tell the chef takes pride in his creations. Bravo!23/03/2013 00:00:00Best restaurant in LondonGreat menu beautifully cooked.
Nothing fussy just delicious.22/03/2013 00:00:00Saturday night outLovely evening, great atmosphere, would recommend. Really glad it was on Top Table as we booked at short notice.23/02/2013 00:00:00Worth a detour.Excellent food, service and wine. The menu is varied, and enabled a family of 5, including three children aged 10, 13 and 15 to choose a wide range of dishes, all of which were outstanding. Service was attentive and friendly yet professional, while the room was very attractive.15/02/2013 00:00:00The best chateaubriand andThe best chateaubriand and scallops I've had in years. The service is friendly and very efficient and the meal was absolutely delicious. We always have a wonderful time here.20/01/2013 16:00:00Awesome Experience!Took my wife there for our 4th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed! Delicious food, wine and superb service! Will definitely be going back again.02/01/2013 16:00:00Leigh on formWe were two, and enjoyed our Christmas Eve lunch here. The food was first rate. A watercress soup, rich and savoury was followed by a hake dish tinged with garam masala which lifted the fish to new heights. The other main was a simple serving of roast ham on spinach and a silken creamy mash. Delicious.
We drank wines by the carafe, a red and a white, excellently chosen and good value. I have been a fan of Mr Leigh's book for many years - so many that I did not realise the book I bought on leaving was, in fact, a reprint! Well, a very welcome Christmas gift for someone.23/12/2012 16:00:00A great settingLovely openness to the restaurant with a variety of big and small tables. Food was very good slightly marred by too much Cayenne pepper in the Anchovy custard/Parmesan toast Hors d'Oeuvres. After a brief check with the kitchen the mistake was acknowledged and taken off the bill. All with a smile and swiftly rectified17/12/2012 16:00:00A stunning room and a veryA stunning room and a very pleasant experience overall.14/12/2012 16:00:00IncredibleLoved this place, really is a fab restaurant to go to when celebrating a special occasion (my parents came with my boyfriend and I to celebrate his new job), and the food just won't disappoint. I had oysters (all alive) followed by the risotto (because I was not in the mood for meat) and it was delicious. Everyone else had either fish and chips (outstanding, according to my father who considers himself the connoisseur), or fillet steak - also wonderful.
Great atmosphere (lively even on Monday night) and lovely servers.
Definitely recommend.26/11/2012 00:00:00Return to AnglaisOnce again Le Cafe Anglais was chosen for a dicreet business lunch. After a very warm welcome we were teated to excllent service and the food was even better than my last visit! We were in the company of society and famous people, so always good for people watching!19/11/2012 00:00:00The best, Rowley Leigh isThe best, Rowley Leigh is my favourite chef of all London. First Kensington Place and now Cafe Anglais. Always outstanding.11/11/2012 00:00:00Great chefWe are very loyal to chefs that we respect and Rowley Leigh is one of them. Le Café Anglais shows his confidence about his food philosophy. We have eaten at the restaurant many times and twice with large tables. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere is brilliant - large Parisian bistro style with ample room between tables and good lighting (how often does that happen). Service is equally good and consistent, sign of careful management.20/09/2012 16:00:00amazing grouse :-)The grouse was exceptionally good, I have never had such a tender and flavoursome game bird cooked pink. My only regret was to have only ordered one to share among the three of us. Next time I'll get one all for myself! other dishes merely adequate: oysters, linguini with crab and lamb salad all good but unremarkable compared to the grouse. One small gripe: Rowley marketed the Bungundy wine to accompany the grouse but did not have the proper Bungundy glasses in which to serve! in the end we made do with Syrah glass and a oaked Chadonnay glass... we all agreed glass shape influence the wine taste. hope they get the glasses in or next time I bring my own glasses.21/08/2012 00:00:00Once again Le Cafe AnglaisOnce again Le Cafe Anglais came up trumps for a family birthday dinner. Great table for six and even a small birthday cake. The eel and bacon starters were really good and the choice generally for starters was excellent. Most of us went for fish courses for main and everyone was pleased with their choice. Good wine list as ever with some very drinkable wines at reasonable cost by London standards. Service was a little slow this time but overall a great evening out29/06/2012 00:00:00They have introduced a fixedThey have introduced a fixed price Sunday Lunch menu which is good value and we would reccommend it.23/06/2012 16:00:00Great food and attractive room.We were very impressed by this restaurant. The menu was interesting and the food delicious, well-presented, and served in an uncluttered and attractive room. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Overall a really pleasant experience, and one that we will definitely repeat.20/05/2012 16:00:00As on previous occasions weAs on previous occasions we received a warm welcome and we were well looked after throughout our stay for Easter Monday Lunch. Excellent choices as usual and the wood pigeon from the rotisserie was particularly good. Certainly I would recommend Cafe Anglais as a lunchtime venue for friends and/or family.09/04/2012 00:00:00Le Cafe Anglais remeins oneLe Cafe Anglais remeins one of my favourite places in London. First, when will designers learn a few tips? Thanks to tables not overcrowded and bucnched up plus some soft surfaces, noise levels are low even when the place is full. Second, service is excellent AND unobtrusive, as it should be. Third, food is excellent & well-presentted , menus well balanced. Only negative point - some wine margins are eye-wateringly high.27/03/2012 16:00:00Me Café Anglais, London W2:Me Café Anglais, London W2: an attractive Art Deco space, attentive service and a good choice of fish, meat, vegetarian and rôtisserie dishes. Wines were somewhat overpriced. Overall, the food was not THAT special, not unusual or displaying great finesse. Everything well done yet somehow not quite up to expectations generated by the fame of Mr Leigh.26/03/2012 16:00:00As on previous occasions weAs on previous occasions we enjoyed our dinner visit to the Cafe Anglais in Queensway London. Smiles at reception always appreciated. Comfortable table with plenty of elbow room and attentive service. All four of us enjoyed our varied choices with one exception namely the veal kidney's were not pink and and tasted as though they had been left standing and for that reason I have marked the food score @ 8 rather than 9. Wines were excellent (White Rioja and red Barbera d'Alba)and reasonably priced08/03/2012 00:00:00Le Cafe Anglais in LondonLe Cafe Anglais in London is the perfect venue for a business lunch or dinner. Quiet but with enough buzz, the food was beyond excellent, the service was quick and efficient and I would definitely go back again. A lovely venue and very nice and light.20/02/2012 16:00:00
