A word from La Trompette
La Trompette is owned by Nigel Platts-Martin and Bruce Poole, the partnership behind Chez Bruce in Wandsworth and The Glasshouse in Kew. It therefore serves some of the best food in London but without the formality or prices associated with the capital's top end establishments. The comfortable and stylish dining room is a vibrant, busy and friendly place to be with service that is highly professional yet relaxed and informal.

From the outset La Trompette has been showered with accolades, a reflection of the love, care and energy that is invested in the restaurant by the dedicated team behind it. La Trompette was awarded a Michelin star in 2008.

Diner Reviews
  • "I went for the 3 course lunch for £45 which is tremendous value for a dining experience of this quality, although I obviously immediately doubled my bill with my choice of wine! As I have found previously the food is delicious but very rich, so I could only go for the sorbet for my third course, which was a shame but there you go!"

  • "This was my first experience of eating at a Michelin Star restaurant, and it was incredible. Came for my girlfriend's 25th birthday, and we were blown away by the food. The main courses in particular were stunning, perfectly cooked and with a really good blend of flavours and textures. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially when helping pick a wine from the mammoth list! The atmosphere was great as well - relaxed and welcoming. Thoroughly recommended, and worth every penny."

  • "The tables are far too close to each other. No privacy whatsoever. You can hear every conversation in detail. And if you happen to be next to an arrogant, know-it-all, loud bore then your dinner is spoilt. It happened to us."

  • "The staff are uniformly superb. Light touch, attentive, there when required, otherwise not. The room buzzes so not for a romantic tete a tete but you feel you have arrived somewhere. Probably the best starter I have tasted anyplace anywhere. Two out of three credit cards did not work was met with a genuine smile and patience. Pricey for the suburbs, but value."

  • "Entertaining clients can always be a bit of a challenge! However, from the moment we stepped through the door, to be met by a warm, smiling & friendly manageress, I felt this was going to be a fabulous experience. I was not to be disappointed! My starter of soft pork belly ravioli, followed by a wonderfully prepared lamb main course and finished with the perfect soufflé, will live long in the memory. The service is efficient and professional but with a warmth that makes you feel you belong. I am already looking forward to my return!"

  • "Great food with great service. La Trompette was recommended to me by friends and work colleagues and I am so glad I listened to them! Easy to find and close to Turnham Green Tube, so an all round good experince I hope to be repeating soon."

  • "This is a restaurant I regularly visit and it never lets me down. Food is great, especially the soufflé, but the service is alway perfect. This time I came with old friends and I love never being anxious that the restaurant will spoil the occasion. We all left feeling looked after and looking forward to going back."

  • "Fathers birthday meal, is now a tradition at La Trompette. Every time fantastic food and service. Perfect evening out."

  • "We had a fabulous time last Sunday at La Trompette. Usually there are one or two dishes onthe menu that I fancy but on Sunday I could have eaten any. The rhubarb souffle was delightful. Thank you to everyone at La Trompette for making Mothers Day a special one for all the Mother's that were there"

  • "Having read reviews online I booked la trompette. As with most Michelin star restaurants I was expecting to fork out an arm and a leg for the experience. However for 27.50 for the 3 course lunch menu per person was outstanding value. The selection of starters mains n dessert was broad and every course I had was cooked to perfection. I would recommend to anyone."

  • "We have dined in both the old and the new La Trompette several times. This was the best meal yet."

  • "I took my wife to La Trompette for her birthday and we both had a great experience. The staff was extremely proffesional and welcoming, attentive to all our needs. Great ambience only beaten by the outstanding food! I highly recommend La Trompette. 5 stars!"

  • "The food, wine and service were very good. The ingredients were interesting but worked really well. The only thing that was uncomfortable was that just over halfway through dinner, there was a draught and we were told the kitchen had opened the door, we were at the back of the restaurant on the left. Would advise in cold weather to avoid the tables at the back on the left, otherwise a great evening out."

  • "At £32.50 for a 3 course lunch, this restaurant offers some of the best food in London for the money. To put it in context, it's effectively a little over £12 per course including service, which is significantly better value than most London gastropubs. The food can best be described as modern French. The menu is varied and all the meat, fish, vegetable bases covered well. It does err on the rich side but there are lighter options available if that bothers you. The wine list is exceptional, offering a broad range of well priced wines. If you have a taste for finer wine, there are some incredible bargains from well known names. Service is friendly and attentive from beginning to end. All in all it's an excellent experience."

  • "everything was great. originally i was booking for Sat lunch and changed to Sun lunch. the upcharge was 5 pounds from Sat to Sun and i felt a bit guilty yet even with 32 pounds, it pays."

  • "Tried La Trompette after lots of suggestions that it was on form. Stopped by for a business lunch on a busy Friday afternoon. The welcome was warm and professional and that the tone for an excellent stay. La Trompette has great lunch menu's with lots of variety and a sophisticated wine list to match. All in all a great find and definitely highly recommended."

  • "I have been going to La Trompette for about six years now and every meal I have had there has been terrific. This latest occasion did not break that trend. The service is attentive but unobtrusive and the food is absolutely delicious. I hope to be able keep coming back for years to come. While the fixed price menu is very reasonable for the quality the food, the required add on prices do appear to be creeping into many of the choices on the menu. Also, the wine, which is excellent, is fairly pricey."

  • "It was several years since our last visit, the food was fantastic then and was just as good this time, excellent flavours, beautiful presentation and the sommelier was very helpful when it came to matching wine with the food. We went for a special birthday and we weren't disappointed."

  • "We don’t visit La Trompette often (we tend to save a visit for special occasions, so probably 3 or 4 times a year), but every time the food and service exceeds our expectations. The attention to detail of both the kitchen team and front of house never wavers and is faultless. The only problem I always have is what to order, as every dish on the menu (even the vegetarian option) sets the mouth watering as you deliberate. Some interesting new wines have been added to the ever expanding wine list, which makes this a wine lovers destination of choice as well."

  • "Had a great lunch given it 4 stars cos they got the starters order wrong gave us ham terrine instead of chicken wing, but then gave us the chicken wing dish once they noticed the mistake. Food was great had a nice time would recommend it."

  • "Visited the restaurant to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary and had a lovely evening. Food was superb and the staff were attentive with the right balance. One of our main courses was slightly delayed but the chef immediately provide us with another smaller starter to compensate for the delay - which was great as it had been my second choice of starter so got to taste both! Will definitely be visiting again!!"

  • "Have eaten here on several occasions; both lunch and dinner and we were very disappointed on this occasion. The quality of the food was good but we found that it was pretentious in exploring "new tastes" rather than providing extremely tasty cooking. Certainly didn't ring any bells for us. Very disappointing."

  • "La Trompette is consistently excellent. We go as often as we can, if we do not have our young son with us. This is the kind of restaurant where you want to savour every mouthful. I had the tea-smoked salmon and the venison. This is the second time I have had the venison here and it was sublime. My husband had the soup with egg and girolles and virtually licked the bowl. His bream was wonderful too. The service is discreet and efficient, the clientele well-heeled and the atmosphere calm and a little serious. It reminds me of restaurants you find in France, where there is a regular clientele with high expectations. Fantastic value to get 2 courses here for just £27..."

  • "Having dined at La Trompette many times over the past few years, it has never failed to please. The food is outstanding and the staff are wonderful, particularly Kern and Laura. The ambience is good and if you want more atmosphere ask for a table to the left of the restaurant. If you want a more peaceful, romantic setting ask to be seated in the new wing to the right. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Looking forward to our next visit in April."

  • "We had a great lunch at La Trompette on Valentine's Day . There was no premium on normal prices as at some places. There was a great atmosphere and almost a full house, with a few deliveries of flowers to lucky diners . I started with a hare risotto, the taste and flavours were sublime, followed by haunch of venison, and a desert of banana soufflé with ginger ice cream. My partner had a cuttlefish starter followed by short rib of beef, and brioche with savarin ice cream The wine waiter helped us chose an unusual but superb Argentinian white wine, and appropriate dessert wines . Everything was well cooked and well presented . If you have never been , go! One of the best restaurants in London !"

  • "We last lunched here 18 months ago and were impressed. So we were very pleased that our lunch yesterday was even better than before. Extensive choice for each of the courses with the food imaginatively served in up market surroundings. Don't miss out on the bread - it's excellent as well!"
    dined on 11/02/2014
  • "This place used to very good. They've had a new chef for some months now, and it's even better. All courses are rich, tasty. appealing, clever. There is rarely something to ignore, thinking that you could make it at home. Yummy."

  • "We had lovely dinner out. It was my birthday dinner with my husband. All my food lovers friends had really push me to go there. Now I know why. Good venue and real service staff of course beautiful food. I had desert with lovely chocolate message to me "Happy Birthday 000"which my name on the plate. Really thoughtful service. It was weekday I thought was Monday. We booked on 20:30 after shopping We went. Already all most all full booked even Monday. Need booking in advance for anniversary or birthday treat If you want."

  • "This is a good restaurant, but it is overpriced. The service was outstanding, but the food wasn't anything special. The desserts were a disappointment."
    dined on 05/02/2014
  • "La Trompette is always wonderful and as our 6-year-old was on a play date, we decided we deserved a grown-up treat. The £26 a head two-course set menu is really good value for money for such a fine restaurant. I had the ravioli to start and the venison my main course, it was cooked 3 ways and melted in the mouth. The only downside was the noisy European family with 2 small children who sat next to us. This is not a family restaurant! But apart from wishing they would go to Pizza Express as we normally do, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch!"
