Kettner's Ratings and Reviews
Little disappointed with this visit. Or...
Little disappointed with this visit. Ordered fish for mains from the pre-theatre - two courses for £21.50 menu - but it was cold when arrived. Also vegetable side dish did not appear and we had to ask for it. When that arrived it was piping hot! When I visited in October, for Sunday lunch, all the food was hot but we ordered from the Brasserie a la carte on that occasion. I think the pre-theatre deals are churned out and often left to get cold before being delivered and more attention should be given to these dishes to ensure standards do not slip.
Lovely meal at Kettners.
Lovely meal once again at Kettners, the food was delicious and well presented. My only grumble this time was that the table we were sitting at kept getting an icy blast every time someone came into the building. On a particularly cold winter night that isn't ideal. This would have been improved had the doors between the reception area and the restaurant been closed.
Favourite Soho Pre Theatre spot
Repeat visit to this well established soho institution. As usual quick, attentive service and no reassure to choose from the pre theatre menu. I mentioned in my booking that this was pre theatre and it was clear that our waiter was informed of this. We chose from the a la crate menu but care was taken to serve us quickly. The quality was as good as ever.

great food! very good wine list. bit loud but there was a big group a couple of tables down. would definitely go again if I was heading to theatre land after. well worth a visit
Kettner's - an ambition fulfilled!
As a great fan of the works of Oscar Wilde I was excited to eat somewhere he had actually visited and which he mentions in The Picture of Dorian Gray. The town houses are superb and the live music layed by the pianist at the grand pianoforte a lovely touch. We had the smoked salmon and crab starters, followed by the Vegetable Pie and Lobster Mac. Everything was delicious, apart from the Vegetable Pie which was tomato heavy in flavour, rather ordinary and wasn't really a pie - having just a 'lid' of smoked mash. However my friend did, at least, enjoy the mash. We had drinks and coffee and, with the food at 50% off, had a really lovely meal following our trip to see Bend it Like Beckham (also worth seeing!)
Great food great setting
We had a lovely pre theatre dinner the food was superb the ambience and service great. The steak was cooked to perfection and a large portion My fish was excellent and a nice choice of side dishes. The icing on the cake was the Plano player. Would recommend to any one. Looking forward to the next visit.
The lunch time theatre menu has stopped. I never had an email saying this. Restraunt was empty!! Must be the lack of matinee theatre customers. Prices are over the top for a quick meal before a show. Shame, used to be good.....
Classics done well
A really nice venue, with a good buzz and great food. Great cocktails too.
Seen better days
I'd been to Kettners some years ago and remembered it as a warm, relaxing, sophisticated venue. This time however, it was all looking a bit tired and was so noisy we couldn't really have a proper conversation let alone make out what the poor pianist was playing. They really need to get someone in to do something about the acoustics. The food was ok for the price with the 50% offer but not good enough to justify the full price. The service was pleasant, though after waiting 10-15 minutes we did have to ask what had happened to our main courses and then waited a bit more. Overall, a bit disappointing really.
A very enjoyable evening !
A very enjoyable evening . Food was good and in a very pleasant atmosphere.

Excellent value lunch at Kettners with the current offer. Lots of choice to suit all tastes, loved the ginger pudding! Great location for theatre.
Beautiful food in amazing setting
This was my second time in Kettner's ans it didn't disappoint. The food was outstandingly good, particularly the dessert, a gorgeous sticky ginger pudding. You can feel the history in the rooms and the service is excellent. It is normally quite expensive with the toptable offer it is absolutely worth it. I will definitely be going back for another special occasion.
Cosy catch up
A slightly old fashioned air, but by that I mean old style grace and ambience. Welcoming with pleasant staff who are happy to help and not too rushed to be considerate. Lovely modern English food (avoid the bland burgers but relish the cute lobster Mac n cheese). Sweet and accommodating.

Delicious food and great place to meet friends for a wonderful evening of catching up and laughing. Loved the live piano music too.
Delicious and Amazing Value
We went to Kettners pre theatre and dined on their 50% off food offer. Incredible value for a delicious meal and brilliant service
We started with a glass of champagne in the champagne bar which was lovely. In the restaurant we felt that the food was lukewarm rather than hot, and my husband ordered a side of new potatoes which didn't arrive with his main course. We alerted the waitress and she apologised and went to see where they were. She came back and said they would be a few minutes (obviously they hadn't been ordered). By the time the potatoes came my husband had eaten half of his main course as it was going cold. Not what we would expect from a restaurant of this standard.
Delighted with experience!
Had a great time in a group of 5 adults and two infants under 6 months. Staff were very accommodating and the food was superb! Sunday evening so pretty relaxed atmosphere but that didn't mean the service wasn't prompt and attentive. Dishes ordered were beef bourguignon, two steaks, venison and duck and everyone was over the moon with the food and thought it was worth the full price but exceptional at the 50% off price. I can usually find something to complain about at restaurants but service and food and the rest of it was faultless on this occasion. Keep up the good work!
A special place
Kettner's is a beautiful place, with a lovely atmosphere, if rather noisy! We were unfortunate to be next to a table containing the loudest man on the planet, but thankfully he left halfway through our meal. The food is very good, if somewhat pricey, but overall, a lovely experience.
Bit of a let down
I picked this venue to celebrate an anniversary after a recommendation from a friend. I therefore booked a table for 7pm. At 7:20 we finally had one of the staff let us know that we our table was ready for us. I felt a bit annoyed that we had booked a table at a certain time to find that it was unavailable for a further 20 mins, with no apology. Once we had sat down and picked our food from the menu, the waiter brought the wine to the table and subsequently poured it onto the table with only a little bit going into the glass. The waiter then brought out my lobster mac 'n cheese, which consisted of an empty plate in front of me, and an incredibly hot oven dish onto my side plate. Firstly, I found having an empty plate put in front of me with my main course served on my side dish very odd, I then had to use my knife and fork to transport the prices of macaroni and cheese onto my plate, which as you can imagine is not the most subtle of activities. Our next confusion came when our waiter gave us the desert menu without explaining what the 'desert of the day' was or what cheeses made up the cheese board. This same waiter, I also observed, had delivered a desert to an adjacent table without knowing what the desert was and who it was for. For the type of resuturant I was hoping for and the price that was being paid for dinner here, we found that the service left a hell of a lot to be desired. However the food itself was very good.
I booked this restaurant before a show with my husband. The food is absolutely heaven. I had the duck which is cooked to perfection. I recommend this restaurant for night out of casual meeting. Excellent food and services.
Lunch at Kettner's
Kettner's has such a lovely atmosphere that it's worth the visit alone. The food is reliably good. On this visit sadly the service was somewhat inattentive, but that wouldn#t stop me from going again
Outstanding value at half price
I booked a t able via open table at the very attractive special offer of food at half price. At that rate the food (which was very good) was splendid value - at full price it would be a bit too expensive. The service was fine and the booking system very efficient. Only problem was that it was rather noisy; sound echoes even without a group of loud females at a nearby table.
Service was very slow. we arrived at 5pm & got served @ 5.40pm, we had to ask to be served. I last visited this place in the 1980's, unfortunately the decor, furniture & carpets appear to be the same. The place is looking very tired now & in need of a good spruce up, including some new carpets. On the plus side the food was very good when it eventually came, the drinks are over priced @ £6.95 for 125ml of wine, not the best I have ever tasted!
Excellent food, outstanding service and ...
Excellent food, outstanding service and help from manager ! The ambience was amazing! Thank you for a lovely birthday!
The service was almost good, the food was without taste. The fish (two differents) like if they were 4 month in the freezer, same with two different orders of met. Also was too expensive. This is the typical restsurant for turist, thst you need to avoid.
Afternoon tea at Kettners
I was recommended Kettners by a friend so while visiting London I Booked afternoon tea. We had a great welcome enjoyed Great afternoon tea in very nice surrounding from fantastic staff. A gem in the heart of London.
Fabulous Friday night dinner with friends.
We had a delicious meal here last weekend. The food was really good and everyone of us had a delicious starter and main course. I had the halibut with gnochhi which was absolutely yummy. The service was good and the staff very friendly without being overbearing. we were not rushed as can often be the way in the West End and had a very relaxing meal with fab wine and food. We had drinks in the bar first which also had a lovely atmosphere and will be returning very soon.
Disappointing food, won't go back
Really disappointing food, I had really dry duck and my husband very bland lamb. The service was fine and we both had a lovely champagne in the bar first , but if service charge is automatically added on I would expect a lot more for the money. We won't be back, really expected a lot better food, very average!
I always enjoy coming to kettners as the whole experience is always just right. Was a little disappointed that my mussel starter wasn't as nice as the last time I was in, but everything else was great as always so I'm sure it was just a glitch.
Over priced and under whelming
We dined here on Saturday, pre theatre. I just felt really underwhelmed by the experience. It was a special occasion as I had mentioned on our reservation, we were shoved in a corner next to a family even though most of the restaurant was empty. The waiter was bland, no chat, no 'how has your day been' he just took the order and brought the food. I had the pork, which itself was delicious, however it was laid on a bed of Luke warm very starchy mash potato. My boyfriend had the halibut on said ink tagliatelle, for £24.50 it was the stingiest portion I've ever seen. I am aware that fish is expensive however it was a tiny amount of pasta too, the prawn butter was unseasoned and bland. The desserts were okay, Oreo cheesecake, can't go wrong. I felt the drinks were over priced (even for London) £9 for a G&T seems super steep. The bill was nearly £100 and I just felt the experience was worth about half of that. I just left feeling really disappointed.
Visited this restaurant on a Thursday evening for a pre theatre meal. Had a drink in the bar before being seated to our table. Lovely table by the window. Waitress was very tentative telling us about the different choices available on the menu. Food arrived promptly & was delicious. Would definitely return to kettners.
Dinner at Kettner's
I hadn't been to Kettner's in along time but was reminded of why I like it there as soon as I stepped in. The ambience is lovely and the hostess was really friendly. The food was very enjoyable and the 50% offer made it outstanding value. I would recommend a visit to anyone.
Great Food, Amazing Champagne and Service
great value food although the portions may look small they were filling. We had a wonderful waiter who recommended not only wines but food choices too . The choice of champagne is wonderful and hard to resist to it did turn out to be a bit more pricey than we would have liked but well worth it. I would recommend having a wonder & taking in a drink at the bar. Great date location for a cosy drink.

Even with 50% off the food- it was overpriced and dismal. My boyfriends £30 steak arrived well done despite asking for media rare, he sent it back, all the while my main was finished by the time his dish came back. The waiter recommended the Seabass on tagliatelle and it was dripping in oil and bland, upon requesting lemon it arrived after I had finished eating it. The waiter was over eager at the beginning not allowing time to read the menu and lack of attention as we were having issues throughout the meal. Bad wine pouring skills, dripping on the tablecloth. Very disappointing meal.
Great deal 50% off
Spontaneous meal out with my boyfriend on a Thursday evening and found this deal for 50% off at Kettners. Lovely location, great food and great value. The service was good too. Will definitely return.
We had the Open Table offer that was 50% off the food price and meant the bill was extremely reasonable. The food quality was good but the service was not to the standard I have experienced in previous visits.
The food and service was extremely good.
The food and service was extremely good. Good selection of food on the a la carte. There was no ambience on Sunday as there was no live pianist ? The restaurant is in need of a make over, looking a little shabby.
Extremely noisy and offers are not clear.
I booked dinner for 3 with their pre or post theatre set menu at 1900. Upon ordering, I was told that set menus are only honored up to 18:30 and we have to order the a la carte. The food was great in presentation but hugely lack of real taste! The most annoying thing was the NOISE! This place is so loud and everyone had to shout to talk!
Took my parents to Kettner's for a pre theatre lunch, and they loved it - food is always good, and great ambiance! The 50% off food is a great deal too!
Girlie London Trip
service, food quality, value for money, location, all excellent
