Kentish CanteenMet up with 3 old friendsMet up with 3 old friends and we had a great evening - food (we all had different things) was excellent, service friendly and attentive but relaxed, ambience just right.03/04/2013 00:00:00Fine and Simple DiningThere is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and the quality and presentation of the food is good.02/04/2013 00:00:00Kentish DelightWe had a pre-concert dinner at The Lentish Canteen and enjoyed it thoroughly. Crisp hot crab cake so start, onglet and fish for mains, all very good. Nice service, good atmospherre, good food. Very good choice in the area.29/03/2013 00:00:00Good pre-forum eateryHad a very good meal just before seeing Stornoway at The Forum 2 minutes walk away.
Friendly staff, reasonably priced food27/03/2013 00:00:00Good food, but hecticEverything started out slightly chaotic, which was partly my fault as I was unable to give a reliable estimate of how many people would be coming. The drinks order did not go well, with items we had not ordered turning up (although this was corrected immediately with no fuss) and my tea taking a quarter of an hour longer than everyone else's drinks to come.
That said, when the food did arrive it was very good and very well presented. Price was quite good for the quality of the food, especially being in London.17/03/2013 00:00:00I thought the place was great,I thought the place was great, i didnt think the meat was amazing for sunday lunch but looking at the other food that came out it looked amazing. I think this place is right for Brunch! I am going there again on Sunday for Brunch as everything else was amazing!10/03/2013 00:00:00Great atmosphere and food.Great atmosphere and food. Half price cocktails were an added bonus.01/03/2013 00:00:00AmandaService was up to speed and menu, albeit limited in choice, covered all areas that one could have wished for. Service was very friendly and food was very tasy. Nice place to hang out with friends in the Kentish Town area and definitely adds a strong neighbourhood type of feeling.01/03/2013 00:00:00Another fab mealKentish Canteen has the most wonderful welcoming staff, a fantastic menu with great choices to suits everyone, really delicious food...we love it here!22/02/2013 00:00:00A Local Gem in Kentish TownI'm frankly of two minds about writing a good review for Kentish Canteen, because I fear it will become too popular, and I'm covetous. But, they're a fab dining establishment, with consistently good food and fantastic service.09/02/2013 00:00:00Great local venueWish this restaurant was my local - it was great. Give the spicy chicken wings with blue cheese sauce a go, burger and stak were both cooked just right. Nice happy hour cocktails too! Just go and try it.01/02/2013 00:00:00Fabulous Meal at kentish CanteenSix of us locals had a brilliant meal at Kentish Canteen on Friday night. The menu is short and everything on it is incredible. The staff are wonderful. It is definitely the best restaurant in the area..... beautifully designed, perfect.17/01/2013 16:00:00Simply outstandingFour of us had dinner at 6:30. My fellow diners urged me to write about how welcome we were made to feel and how delicious the food was. There was no loud background music so we could talk without shouting. We all chose 2 courses for £13-95 – amazingly good value. I had tea smoked duck to start, two friends had salt & pepper squid and one chose the bread and dip board: punchy, fresh flavours, all highly satisfying. For mains two of us had chorizo sausages with spinach, one had onglet steak and another had fish and chips: all portions were generous and cooked to perfection. We would have liked to have stayed longer, drank a lot more wine and tried out a pudding but the Roundhouse called. We would all recommend this restaurant highly.09/01/2013 00:00:00New Year's EveThe Kentish Canteen was packed! Most diners left before us (at about 11pm) presumably to go to the centre of London to see the fireworks? Although there was a bit of delay (understandable because of the mass of people there) the quality of the food we had was excellent and the price very reasonable. We had expected 5 people but initially there were only 3 of us so the owner made two seats from our table available to late comers. A 4th person arrived but there was room for him at our table. He brought apologies for the non-appearance of the 5th person. Very impressed by the adaptability of the restaurant as well as the food and drink.30/12/2012 16:00:00Great food, friendly serviceIt's not too often in London that you find great food and good, no-attitude service, and Kentish Canteen offers both. They've a wide selection of food, suitable for various diets from meat lovers, to veggies and health conscious types, and all of it prepared very well. The desserts are terrific too!
The environment is casual, but chic, with a warm and welcoming air about it with space for big groups if you need it. Be sure to visit SheBeen after!
Above all, Kentish Canteen offers a true brunch (which, for those other London restaurants who claim brunch and don't deliver it, is when breakfast and lunch items are served) - from burgers to eggs florentine, and even a Sunday Roast, they put on a good Sunday spread. Highly recommended indeed!29/12/2012 16:00:00Food was simple and delicious.Food was simple and delicious. Service was warm, and though it's not a family place per se, our children felt welcome on a Friday night. Order speciality cocktails from Shebeen downstairs to start your meal and you won't be disappointed.13/12/2012 16:00:00Great little discovery...Had a lovely meal here. The staff were very friendly and made us feel at home. The food was excellent, the veggie bean burger was particularly yummy - will definitely return...12/12/2012 00:00:00The restaurant is just outThe restaurant is just out from the tube station and so perfectly located for a pre Forum meal. I was greeted and seated quickly which was good as it was cold outside and very cosy inside. The menu included 2 courses for £13.95. I had squid for starter. Now squid can be a hit or miss affair but happily this squid was properly cooked, very tender with spring onions and peppers adding piquancy to the dish. Fish and chips for the main prompt my only gripe. The chips were skinnies whereas I prefer a full bodied chip. Apparently I would have got fat chips if I'd ordered the steak. The fish was beautifully cooked. So, a great experience. I don't know where I ate the last time I went to the Forum but I do know where I'll be eating next time.12/12/2012 00:00:00lovely localgreat atmosphere and friendly service at Kentish Cateen always make a visit a pleasure.
