A word from Kendell's Bistro
Kendell's Bistro is a casual Informal place to dine with the main focus on quality of food, wine and service within a French bistro atmosphere. It’s relaxed and informal - no waiters topping up wine glasses after every sip or sneaking up behind you with a six foot pepper mill. Cloth napkins but not starched, blackboard menus and open plan kitchen, intimate cosy candles flickering, friendly without pretence. In fact we are so french we don't charge for bread and we don't have a service charge!

  • "We went to Kendall's for an anniversary meal. Service was very good - attentive without attitude. The menu offered enough choice for anybody's needs. The beetroot and goat's cheese tart was lovely, as was the sea bass and calves liver. Really lovely place for a meal - really good atmosphere too without being too loud. A good, solid, reliable place to eat good food."

  • "Welcoming, friendly efficient staff - excellent menu (a little on the expensive side) well presented - nice ambience to the place - have definitely recommended to friends and family."

  • "We have been here before to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Food always consistant good quality. We had the early bird menu of 3 x courses and a half bottle of wine @ £25.95 each. Very good. Atmosphere also of a good ambience. Opted for a glass of champagne for an apperative. The staff seemed very friendly and an improvement from our last visit when a waitress did not know much of the menu or speak any French!"

  • "... All four starters and main courses were delicious in addition to being well-executed and presented. Amuse and pate too cold. Service excellent, table on small side for four. Glad we were seated close to menu boards - negotiating very close tables to get a better view would be tricky, not to mention intrusive for those seated on tables for two under the boards. Wine pricey although many available by the glass. Lots of food choice although I'd have preferred more lighter options. May try early bird menu during week that than a la carte Saturday night next time."

  • "The quality of the food and service and amount of attention was superb...as ever. I wouldn't try the bone marrow again, but that's because it is an acquired taste - I am pleased that I tried it. The duck breast and lamb were beautifully cooked. The only regret is that we didn't leave room for dessert."

  • "Went to Kendells for my wife's birthday and again we weren't disappointed. The service was exemplary, they simply can't do enough for you. The complimentary glasses of champagne and sweet selection for my wife's birthday was a lovely touch too. The food was brilliant as always. Go to Kendells, you won't be disappointed!!!!"

  • "Kendells was recommended to us by friends so we had quite high hopes. The place itself is 'French bistro' style which is good; staff in fairness were excellent and friendly. The food was OK but not good value. The real issue was that we were in, seated and out within an hour which totally ruined the experience. I've had end of night curries which have lasted longer than this. The starter arrived literally within 5 minutes of ordering! Don't sit near the menu boards as you end up with everybody standing at the side you deciding what to eat with their derrieres pointed in your general direction. Finally they need to get rid of the deodorant tins in the gents, strange! Perhaps this is a French thing? I prefer Brassiere Blanc to be honest."

  • "Had a pre Theatre - Fixed Price Menu Meal at Kendells. We were going to the West Yorkshire Playhouse - not 5mins distance away We were on a set time & The staff were most accommodating & attentive.... They even knew what time the performance started & how much time we would need to get there etc etc. The food was delicious & very French, as was the decor & ambience. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience & would recommend to anyone & would definately go again"

  • "Working in Leeds for 3 weeks we were delighted to find this restaurant and visited a couple of times. It wasn't cheap but the food was excellent, really delicious and very varied. It is a bit cramped and noisy so not so good if you want an exclusive, elegant, discreet dinner but very satisfying and should definately be tried, you will not regret it, but you will if you decide against. Menus all written up on the wall with opera glasses for those with limited sight!"

  • "Returned to Kendall's after moving from Leeds two years ago, and not disappointed upon our return. The food is exceptional I think. It all runs like a well oiled machine. The staff as efficient, friendly and good at what they do. The wines are extensive, the food excellent and you would be silly to miss out on a visit there. Book before you go as it does get extremely busy........I wonder why!"

  • "The restaurant made for a lovely romantic environment, with excellent quality food and everything to match, the price was reasonable, we were so full after the starter and main we couldn't manage a dessert, fantastic highly reccomended and will certainly dine at kendells again."

  • "Booked after hearing lots of good reviews from friends and online. On arrival the service was very friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was good. They have no printed menu so if you are sat near the back of the restaurant you need to use binoculars provided by the waiter or walk across and stand in the way of staff and uncomfortably close to other seated diners to read the menu. We ordered and although my partners scallop dish was good the other two dishes of mussels were both full of grit. The mains were heavily salted and none of us finished what we had. The staff didnt wait on one section or table so we found we had very helpful and chatty staff early on but then a quite vacant waitress later who wasnt interested. Poor overall."

  • "Second visit to Kendall's and although there wasn't anything particularly wrong, it wasn't anything to write home about. And at £45.00 plus per head with the cheapest bottle of wine I think it's above average price for the quality of the dishes."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "I took my partner for his birthday and they went out of their way to make it a special night for us. The atmosphere was also great and the food was incredible."

  • "This was our 2nd visit. first visit we thought it was the BEST restaurant we had been to. We have eaten at many Michelin Restaurants and 2 years ago this was up there. This time, the experience was very disappointing. Small starters, Small Main courses with all sides extra. My wife had Sole which she spent the entire time removing the bones and I had the Venison comprising of 3 small cuts. This is a lovely romantic place and could be amazing, but based upon our 2nd visit this will be the last."

  • "The food was really nice here and because the menus change daily you know you are getting it fresh. I had lamb which was cooked to perfection with potatoes n crisp green vegetables. The restaurant is lit by candlelight which gives a relaxing mood to the evening. Both me and my partner enjoyed it very much."

  • "First time there and it won't be the last. Outstanding food with brilliant value for money. Good service too. Only reservation was how the menu was located on the wall felt awkward having to stand in front of other diners whilst they were trying to enjoy their meal also meant the entrance walk way was a bit crowded!"
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "My daughter and I had the tea time menu which is great value for 3 courses with half a bottle of house wine. There was lots of choice and light desserts as well as richer options. We have never been disappointed when we eat here and have brought all the family before."

  • "We booked for our anniversary on a wet Wednesday in Feb half expecting the venue to be quiet. Couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Full and buzzing atmosphere, with informal, relaxed diners and attentive, knowledgeable staff. After 10 minutes, having only sampled the delicious complimentary bread, we were already planning our return. The food was outstanding (fillet steak and Saumon en croute) as was the wine. Quality food, service and setting - everything works as the owners promise. We were hoping for a special venue for a special occasion and Kendell's certainly delivered."

  • "Lovely warm greeting on arrival. Staff were keen, knowledgable and prompt. Not overly keen on having to leave the table to peruse the giant blackboard menus, but the food was fantastic. Lovely house wine as well. All round a restaurant I would highly recommend. You would think you were in Paris at times. We'll be back very soon."

  • "We went out with our daughter for a pre-birthday meal. The food was lovely and lots of choice, the staff were attentive and the atmosphere was lovely. At the end of the meal we received a selection of little cakes with their compliments to celebrate the birthday. I would definitely recommend Kendalls Bistro to my friends, we definitely had a lovely time. We will definitely be visiting again soon."

  • "From the moment you walk in the door until you walk out again you can't cease to be impressed by this place The food is wonderful and the French onion soup is just out of this world, once tried it will become the only starter you ever have. The staff are excellent especially the lady on the door who does the establishment proud. I have visit now several times and it has become me and my partners restaurant of choice for our date nights. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed and because of its location makes a great start to a night at the theatre The prices are very reasonable and although I am no food critic I will as well as recommending the soup, you have to they the beed bourgeon with ox cheek....its heavenly"

  • "What a fantastic little find within the alleys of Leeds, this restaurant brings class to the city centre of Leeds. A unique little French restaurant bringing you the best French food this side of the channel! I love French food and this has to be the best restaurant i have being to apart from in France where the food is authentic. It is great value for money and if celebrating the extra treat you get adds that touch of sparkle to finish the meal. I have visited the restaurant several times and the service is always top notch along with the food!"

  • "Pretty much perfect. Unpretentious classy dining in a nice atmosphere. Good value but not cheap. Friendly professional staff. Good for a date or with friends. Spend as much as you want."

  • "Having already enjoyed an evening at Kendell's twice before in the last three years, we decided to go again as a treat with friends. Quite easily the best restaurant atmosphere in Leeds with down to earth but attentive service from all the staff. It's also up there with the best for food and wine both in quality and selection. When it's this good, we didn't mind paying a little bit more. It was a treat afterall."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "I went to Kendell's for my boyfriend's birthday and they treated us very personally. We were given a complementary glass of fizz each and my boyfriend also got a free dessert! We dined on the Tea Time set menu, so its was fantastic value for money, and the dishes available to us were still of a great quality. The waiting staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was wonderful."

  • "Kendall's Bistro is definitely one of the best restaurant you could find in Leeds The atmosphere and food are of the top quality. Perfect for couple! Foie gras and scallops are really nice. Would go back again soon !"

  • "A while since last visit but if anything has improved. Very friendly reception and excellent and appropriately attentive staff throughout. We liked the bustle and music. The tables are very close together and would prefer not having to push past some to study extensive blackboard menu. Binoculars were 'quirky' but not much use! The food was very good. The black pudding starter was swooned over and the French Onion soup good. The gammon shank was enjoyable but massive; the lamb excellent. Despite that we pushed down a chocolate pot - v rich - and an ile de flottante that didn't quite hit the mark. However we enjoyed our 'time out' together and fantastic value at less than £25 each including wine. Wont be as long before we return."
