A word from Italian Caffe
The Italian Caffe is run by the same people that brought the Italian Kitchen to Glasgow. And its ethos is the same - fine, fresh food and superb wines in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
After visiting the enotecas of Italy we recognised a gap in Glasgow’s burgeoning bar and restaurant scene. Where can someone go who wants to enjoy a varied selection of good wine without paying a fortune for a bottle? We think our enoteca is the answer. With over 50 wines to choose from, plus our piccolo piatti, we believe we offer something a little bit different to other wine bars. We do, we serve our great food. We’re passionate about what we do and our customers recognize this. That’s why they keep coming back.
We think eating, and drinking, out in Glasgow has benefited from the Italian Caffe’s presence. But that’s just what we think. Why not come along and think for yourself.

  • "Good food, good service, nice atmosphere on a sunny day, not expensive. Slowly but surely working our way through the menu."

  • "Absolutely excellent Tapas especially recommend the risotto and small plates of pasta and Italian sausage and beans"

  • "We eat here regularly now and it never fails us: you get a friendly welcome from efficient, helpful staff; the menu is varied - we try something new each time; the food is very good; nice atmosphere too and you're never rushed. It's not expensive and the wine list is reasonable. The small plates menu is great for social, sharing eating and encourages you to try things."

  • "Had a really enjoyable meal at Italian Caffe on Friday night! Requested a booth and got one which was good for a private chat!"

  • "We have been to the italian kaffe a few times now and cannot rate the food highly enough. Its well cooked and well presented and is great value for money. The staff are pleasant and accommodating and we reckon its about the best italian in Glasgow."

  • "Popped in here on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was great- really tasty and the small plate option means you get to try many different things - provided your dining partners are into sharing that is. Oysters were fresh and delicious - apparently. However for me the sardines and then the tagliatelle with duck ragu were perfect. I shall be back."

  • "Would not go back. Issues: 1. We both came out stinkling of cooking - ventialtion very poor 2. My wife almost did the splits in the ladies due to wet floors 3. Not enough staff - service very slow 4. Full portion pasta dishes are not that 'full' - for £12-13? Really? 5. Spaghetti with king prawns tasteless - can do better at home 6. Italian sausage used was very bland Very disappointing. The restaurant is always busy so you would think it's because the food is great - perhaps just taking advantage of poor Glaswegians who don't know any better. Shame."

  • "The service, food and ambience were great until we ordered our desserts. These were both cold and didn't need much preparation but took ages to come, by which time we were irritated and keen to get home."

  • "This was our second visit to Italian Caffee and we were not disappointed! As always choosing what to order took a while as there is a huge selection to choose from but the tapas format means between all our table we got to try a wide selection of dishes. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection and tasted delicious. The restaurant was busy and had a great buzzy atmosphere so perfect for a night out but perhaps not so good for business meetings but great for entertaining friends or clients. Only comment is that with some dishes costing almost £10 it is not the cheapest place for tapas but the quality of the offering more than makes up for the cost. Will definitely be back."

  • "What a fabulous little place to start our Saturday evening off. We don't often get out so it was a rare treat to go for dinner together and we couldn't have picked better. The food was simply amazing and we loved the "small plates" option so we could share. The sea bass on risotto we will be going back for! Tables are quite small so there wasn't a lot of room to put multiple plates but it didn't detract from the food."

  • "The food here is always great. You will never go hungry and there is a selection of food to suit all tastes. The wine selection is excellent, ranging from affordable to very expensive. The service could be better and lets the restaurant down by being a little cold and unfriendly. However, if you're looking for good food and drink I would highly recommend the Italian Cafe for a special occasion or anytime."

  • "A friend and I met for lunch and chose to select the two plates option each, sharing them between us. There was certainly plenty of food for us and each of our chosen dishes was well presented and very tasty. The menu was well laid out in sections and there was plenty to choose from. We also had a glass of wine each and the choices were plentiful. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for lunch."

  • "Been to the Italian Caffe before so was looking forward to returning. Our table was booked for 8pm and we were down to our table right away when we arrived. My boyfriend and I ordered the seafood platter for a starter which was outstanding last time. When it arrived the quality was again brilliant and we were busy tucking in and enjoying it when we realised there was no langostine on the platter as advertised on the menu. It took us ages to catch the attention of a waiter who checked, came back and said they'd run out of them and that was why there was a bit more if everything else than usual. That was ok but we which we had been told either when we ordered or it arrived at the table. The small plates were brilliant really tasty."

  • "Went to the Italian Caffe on saturday evening before a concert at City Halls. As usual, we had a very good meal with a mixture of small plates and conventional main courses. The waiting staff were attentive and met our every need. No one was hurrying us which can sometimes happen in other restaurants with pre theatre menus. Yet when we realised that we were starting to get close to concert starting time, the final paying was done most efficiently. Well done Italian Caffe."

  • "Chose the Italian Caffe again for its outstanding food consisting of small plates that you chose from a vast array. outstanding taste"

  • "Drinks were ordered quickly enough. However service slipped after this as we were left sitting with our menus for just under 30mins! No dedicated waiter per table so it was pot luck if someone noticed you needed service. Not very attentive on this trip I'm afraid. Food as always very tasty & good value. Let down by the slow service - if this slips anymore then customers will start to walk elsewhere!"

  • "The Italian Caffe is never disappointing and this time we had the Xmas set lunch - fantastic - from the gorgeous prawn risotto via lemon sole mornay to the pannetone bread & butter pudding - excellent value as well, Italian food with a French feel - the best of both worlds"
    dined on 20/12/2013
  • "This restaurant seems to struggle to cater for tables of two. When seated we were placed at a table where we didn't even face each other and i was actually facing into a mirror! We were eventually moved however this was made to feel like a inconvenience to the restaurant staff."
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "Have been to the Italian Cafe quite a few times and last couple of times was disappointed. Was there again on Friday night and won't be back. Food not up to usual standards and choice on menu for full meals really disappointing."
    dined on 06/12/2013
  • "Italian Caffe are the best at producing "small plates", not as small as Tapas, but you can choose two or three dishes at a sitting, much more pleasurable, I think , than wading through a big bowl of pasta or a huge plate of Pizza. The quality of the food, and the great service, suit this modern, chic restaurant. The glass and lack of curtains or carpens, does mean the sound bounces around the place, but I've never found it outputting."

  • "Came on thursday prior to concert at City Halls. Very good food and very good service. Didn't have any sense of rushing or being rushed and was able to get to preconcert talk. The concept of small plates is for me good in that I can determine how much I eat without feeling bagged up. Don't tell me to leave food on your plate since I grew up when rationing was still happening in UK and my mother always demanded that I did not leave any food. So places like the Italian caffe are heaven for me: I can have a little food and still adhere to my mother's precept. The fact that the food is excellent is an added bonus as wells the stylish surroundings."

  • "I visited Italian Cafe with a group of 4 on a Saturday night. We ordered a selection of beautiful dishes from across vegetable, meat, fish, pizza and risotto menus. Each was better than the other and we had enough ordering only two tapas style dishes each, plus sharing some bread and olives. Desserts and wine were also wonderful and the lovely service topped off a great night. Would highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Met up with two colleagues I had not seen for a long time so we had a lot to catch up on. Serving staff did not rush us, were very attentive and helpful and in no hurry to present us with the bill. Food was fantastic, plenty of choices, was well presented and served with care. Place was very clean and staff very, very friendly."

  • "In town for the GFS initially we had opted for a formal restaurant but chose a more casual approach last minute; in this Italian Caffe proved ideal. Having grazed (gorged?!) during the day, the "picollo piatto/small plate" menu appealed. With the wide selection, inc. ample non-meat, we enjoyed picking over a wee bit of a LOT. A couple of dishes lacked authentic Italian depth of taste (also asparagus a touch over and the langoustine a little "weedy"). The broad enoteca-style wine list (most by the glass) greatly enhanced dining. High-sided central booths allowed for a privacy encouraging chat and relaxation - only slightly spoiled by the kitchen door remaining open throughout. Service was speedy (Fri night levels) and very friendly. Enjoyed."

  • "I found the restaurant to be clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and cheerful. The food arrived promptly and was well presented and well cooked. My scallops were fresh and nicely presented on a delicious risotto. My grandchildren enjoyed sardines and pizza. A good 'grandma lunch'! I will go back with my husband."

  • "The Italian Kitchen always pleases! The food is always so fresh , tasty and well presented ( almost looks too good to eat) ! The choices on the menu are so varied and appealing.Staff are always welcoming and it is so pleasurable to be there."

  • "Went on a Friday night for dinner with my wife. We were seated as soon as we arrived and the service by the waiters and waitresses was friendly and genuine. They offered great advice on how many dishes to choose and even told us to share the starter as it was enough for two! Wine was excellent and you can buy and one by the glass. Now the food was first class, very authentic and fresh. My favourite was the Italian sausage and beans. I would say share a platter to start then two dished each is plenty. That will leave enough room for the creme brule which is the best I have tasted. So in short great food wine and value."

  • "Fantastic service, we went in a small group for a birthday and the staff came out with our cake singing happy birthday. The food was excellent and the staff were very accommodating. Great atmosphere, we will definitely be back!"

  • "Excellent food, fantastic decor, Was a little too noisy, as we could hardly hear each other talk, and we got a wobbly table, But would definitely recommend as the food was amazing,"

  • "Really enjoyed a girls lunch at the Italian Caffe. The service was swift and excellent, although we were never rushed. The food was delicious and there was a great range to choose from. The servers were knowledgable and eager to please, even offing a small taste of a particular wine to help us choose. Excellent and we will be back."

  • "Good food, nice atmosphere. Friendly attentive staff. Menu a little limited as I am pregnant. More down to what I would normally choose than what restaurant had on offer. Would recommend more for ladies than a group of guys. Always feel men can't be bothered with tapas but girls love to pick. Could see it being somewhere I'd end up spending a Saturday afternoon with friends or husband. Quite pricey but nice area and quality produce."

  • "The food quality and flavours were very good. The apple pie and caramel sauce is one of the we had. 4 of us dined on the 30th August ranging in age from 19 to 49, the italian cafe catered for all tastes. Well done. We will be back soon."

  • "The restaurant and menu looked great, unfortunately after half an hour no-one had taken a drinks or food order. The food then all arrived at once but no drinks. There was no room on the tiny table for 5 dishes we ordered. The food was delicious and they manageress redeemed the situation by not charging for the 2 glasses of wine. If they managed to combine good service with the top quality food that they served then they would have a very good restaurant."
