We chose a wonderful wine and all our steaks were wonderful. I had a 750g Bone-In Prime Rib from the blackboard. These special steaks go quickly so get in there fast! It was without doubt the best steak I have ever tasted and needless to say I finished every morsel. This was a special occasion, and we went all out and ordered the Chateauxbriand medium rare (1kg for 4 people was about right). The meat was unbelievable, my husband almost cried it was so good. It just melted in your mouth! The mac and cheese side was also extremely good, and the chips.... were the best chips I've ever had! We also had deserts which were delicious (Panacotta, cheese board). No options for a lamb lover but then I was being picky. They do cater fairly well for non-beef eaters and vegetarians too considering it's a steak speciality restaurant and anyway the wine selection was keeping me happy enough.
So, steaks were sublime, sides were perfect and the service was attentive, bright, informed and almost faultless - they forgot an item but gave it on the house and with hardly any delay.

The cocktails are very good (but pricy) We did not bother with starters because we wanted to get straight into the main course. We went for 850g Porterhouse steak cooked medium rare and this was more than enough for the two of us. In fact I would suggest a little less if you both want to have dessert! The sides were very good I recommend the creamy spinach and the field mushrooms. The chips were good (they did what there were supposed to do). I would avoid the buttered greens - we were expecting green beans and we got some cabbage instead which was a bit plain. We shared a nice bottle of red wine (£37.50). We also shared a dessert which was excellent. My two friends and I have recently come back from Argentina where unsurprisingly we ate a lot of very good steak. My fillet steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the sides were also very good (5 dishes between 3 of us was plenty), as were the desserts.
My only criticisms would be the lack of vodka cocktails and that my friend had to send back her steak. Being 8 months pregnant, she had ordered it well done but it arrived a little pink. The waitress was extremely pleasant though and returned it promptly, thoroughly cooked through.

The atmosphere in Hawksmoor is great, the lighting is perfect and it really is a great date venue. The waiter was a little pushy in upselling more expensive wine (we weren't going for cheap in the first place). For the main course we had a large porterhouse to share with two sides and a sauce each. The food was absolutely delicious and there was definitely a lot of it but unfortunately was a bit cold when it came to the table despite the steak arriving in a cast iron pan presumably to keep the heat going. We had apple crumble with custard and salted caramel rolos for dessert and both were lovely.
