A word from Hawksmoor Spitalfields
Named after Nicholas Hawksmoor's Christchurch Spitalfields, just down the road, Hawksmoor Spitalfields opened in 2006 to rave reviews, reigniting London's love affair with steak. Hawksmoor Spitalfields is an unpretentious, quality obsessed steak house, serving exclusively British beef from traditional breeds, supplied by award winning butchers The Ginger Pig. The 115 cover restaurant also has an extensive wine list featuring favourite small producers and big vineyards alike. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Very friendly and helpful staff, and the food was outstanding. A bit pricey, but since the food was so good, it was worth every penny."

  • "We went to Hawksmoor for a birthday celebration and the steak was very good albeit quite salty The side dishes were a rip off and not well presented."

  • "Went here with my son as he'd read that this was the best steak house in London and we like our beef. V lively and busy and not at all formal, bar staff friendly. Sat at our table on time, tables a little too close together generally but not a problem for us. Waitress was really good and helpful with recommendations, portion sizes etc. We went for the 800g chateaubriand which arrived after 25 mins as promised. The steak was perfectly cooked and silky smooth, melt in mouth, totally fantastic. The sides were great too. I knew it was going to be pricey (and it was), but for a special occasion it was worth it. I would go back again but not in any great hurry to do so."

  • "I'm guessing we had some bad luck. The food was over seasoned, far too much salt, didn't fully appreciate it until we had pretty much finished. For the price I would've expected far better"

  • "We had a great dinner at Hawksmoor Spitalfields(myself and my wife for her birthday). Started with a cocktail each, & once the waiter had explained the menu we shared a porterhouse steak and a couple of sides, all delicious! We would most definitely go again, top notch!"

  • "Service was very friendly and efficient! Food was very good, but we found it overpriced, and then we discovered a confusing "optional" 10£ added for service. We did mention this to the managment, because we are used to having service included in the prices, and then give a tip if service deserves one (and this time it would have). The place has a nice feel (brick wall and all), but it is very loud, not suitable for romantic evening. The meat was excellent, as expected. Side dishes very good indeed, but the whole experience was a bit too pricey. Again: great waiter, thanks!"

  • "Very good meal at Hawkesmoor Spitalfield. My friend and I had a Rib Eye... Cooked to perfection and very tasty. Staff were friendly and professional on the whole and knew what they were talking about. Desserts were also spot on. Not cheap but would return for sure... Perhaps for a sharing 1kg T- Bone!!!"

  • "I am a huge Hawksmoor fan although it was my first time at the Spitalfields branch. As always the food and service was amazing but I would rather eat at Air Street as it was extremely loud in there with people going direct from their jobs in the area for dinner. This was for my partners birthday so perhaps a diff branch for a special occasion. The food and service and BYO was great for a Monday though. "

  • "My brother took me to the Hawksmoor Spitalfields for my birthday and what a wonderful place it is. Good bar for a quick aperitif. Bring your own on a Monday is a good idea as it makes it much more affordable. Staff were knowledgable and helpful, without being insistent. The steak was exceptional, tasty and juicy (trust me, I know my steak!). Will certainly recommend and go again, thanks Hawksmoor!"

  • "overhaul very good staff excellent plus lively bar downstairs good night out."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "We had fantastic drinks, food and service here but I was disappointed with the decor and ambience of the restaurant. It looks like a gastro pub on the inside and isn't particularly comfortable. The tables are too close together which is annoying and a bit intrusive. For that price I would expect a better interior and more of an ambience."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "I love the Sunday lunch in hawksmoor. It's possibly one of the best in London. It's far more refined than an eat as much as you can Toby carvery. Think gorgeous beef, massive Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots and gravy with the crunchiest cabbage. Yum yum!!!"
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "As spaniards we wanted to taste a good Sunday Roast. And it ended up as a wonderful lunch experience. As starter we were told by a very efficient waitress what could match best with our roast. We chose the fabulous mackerel in a pot. Then the roast was delicious and so was the cheesecake. Very often we were asked if everything was ok, and it really was."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "Fantastic evening from start to end - our waiter, Will was a highlight with his energy and friendliness. Cocktails downstairs first (they don't split tips with the downstairs bar-staff, so leave a cash tip before you transfer your tab upstairs to the restaurant) were great, then the steak (we share a rib for 2), sides and sauces were fantastic. A rare treat was that the dessert (a real stiky toffee pudding.. not a piece of tray baked treacle sponge with sauce on top) was as good as the meat. Can't wait until next time."

  • "This is the second time I've visited the Spitalfields location and have also been to the Air St and Seven Dials as well. The one criticism I have to say about this place is the seating and ambiance. I came for a special occasion dinner with my fiance and basically you sit so close to the tables beside you you might as well be eating with them! Having spent a lot of money - we bought the 1kg Porterhouse! - they don't go out of their way to make the whole experience special rather seems like more of a "normal" meal but with a hefty price tag! Steak was good but not for what we paid."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Hawksmoor, you never fail to satisfy! We shared the 900gm porterhouse, absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious! Our only complaint would be that you've taken mashed potato off the menu. But loved the in season British asparagus! Oh and the cheesecake, and the rollo's... And I can't forget to mention the best cocktail in the world - the full fat old fashioneds! Hawksmoor we love you!!!"
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "now its good very good. But at £160 for two people and a few cocktails I expect something special. It was just a steak. a good steak but for £160 or a flight to Spain I would expect something special. May I suggest a flight and a better value place to eat.."
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "My wife and I had lunch here Tuesday, i had an excellent fillet steak and my wife the beet root salad as a main, both were good portion sizes and very tasty! We've eaten in a couple of the hawksmoors and it's always a good experience, if I had one minor bit of constructive feedback the devilled broccoli was not spicy enough for me there being nothing much devilled about it - it was still tasty though and well cooked. I had a glass or two of the Malbec which was excellent with the steak. Dessert wise - I had a superb banana and bourbon tarte tatin which I loved - a proper 'nom nom' moment! All in all, definitely worth a visit!"

  • "Went to Hawksmoor for my SO's 40th, mentioned that it was a birthday in my booking notes. Staff were attentive and amiable in a non-intrusive way and we had a fantastic steak. They also seated us at a table of four, despite being a duo, so we had a bit of privacy/space (v thoughtful). Also, surprised at the end with some salted caramels on a plate which had Happy Birthday beautifully piped in chocolate sauce. Would def. recommend, especially for service."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "I've heard that there is the best Sunday roast in London and I thought to give it a go! It was very nice!the food very nice and the staff very friendly.I'm definitely going back to try the steaks next time and the cocktail bar downstairs!"
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "I have been coming to Hawksmoor for years now and will regularly recommend it as one of the best steak (and Sunday roast, and breakfast) restaurants in London. I can always walk away saying "they never disappoint" with consistent flavoursome steaks, great service and drinks, but unfortunately even the best have their off day: Monday's meal was the first I have had at the Hawksmoor where I left feeling very underwhelmed and dissatisfied with the value for money. The service was at its usual high standard and the atmosphere cannot be denied, but the centre piece of the meal, our 1.1kg bone in prime rib, dare I say, lacked the usual depth of flavour we are accustomed to. Hopefully this is a one off!i"
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "An excellent place to get your meat fix - although I was surprised that a 1 kg T-bone steak between 2 still left me hungry for dessert The sides (mac cheese, chips) are a little small in portions"
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "The deal that hawksmoor does between 5 and 6pm Monday to Saturday is superb. Highly recommended. The rib eye steak was perfectly cooked and tender. One of the best steaks I've had. World class, and excellent sticky toffee pudding for dessert as well. Will return soon."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "different venue for my 2nd Hawksmoore meal and the same great service and fantastic food was served. Sure-fire recommendation to any steak lovers :-)"
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "Had the best Sunday lunch I've had in a long while with tender beef, great yorkie & roasts and lovely veg. My partner had rib eye steak which had amazing flavour & cooked beautifully. Great buzzy atmosphere & staff attentive in the right way. Great lunch."
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "Nice relaxed feel to the place, ambience good for most occasions. Nice cocktail list and array of side dishes to acompany your pound of beef! Also some non beef options for those that want them. Triple cooked chips were great, chateaubriand was magnificent - some of the best tasting meat I've ever eaten. To my 'untrained pallete' these guys defo know what they are doing. Service was good on the whole, swift and unintrusive - waitress convinced us to not 'have a fillet cos you can have that anywhere' and even though it sounded like a bit of a hustle - she was right. Good value for what they're selling."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "With a friend of mine we shared the ribs as a starter, they were very tasty and incredibly tender. As a main we got a Chateaubriand (750g), was supposed to be medium, thought it was slightly overcooked for me...but was still outstanding. Wine selection is wide and they also have plenty of affordable bottles (below GBP 50). So 1 starter, 1 chateaubriand to share, 1 ice cream and 1 dessert wine, 1 bottle of wine (GBP 34)...GBP 180...not a bang for the buck, but quality of meat was definitely above average!"
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Great venue, well located with attentive staff. It's not the cheapest place in the world but I think that had more to do with re-ording from the great cocktail menu more than the individual cost. The food is great time and time again - already looking for a reason to go back."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "Very knowledgeable staff and a great if not a little mad, bar man. I have been here several times and always enjoy it."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Steaks are always good here. Service was amazing, setting (Spitalfields branch) was nice, but Covent Garden branch is probably better for a special occasion, bit more grand). Sunday roast trimmings are lush, Yorkshire pudding is huge, but beware when they say the meat will be pink, it has been rare on both times I've had it, so ask for medium if you actually want a blushing bit of meat. Other steaks came out as requested and all condiments gladly offered. Peanut shortbread with salted caramel ice cream was worth going back for on its own! Love the Hawksmoor!"
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "Welcoming staff, fast and attentive service and the best rib eye I have had in London. Hawksmoor has forged a name for itself in the London dining scene and it is plain to see why. I love this restaurant and will frequent it often. The anchovy hollandaise is reason enough for a return visit, not to mention one of the most interesting and diverse wine lists you're likely to find in the capital. Utterly brilliant."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "enjoyed a lovely meal here, service was brilliant, mac and cheese was incredible, along with a beautifully cooked steak. couldn't of asked for more, apart from the wine being very expensive which seemed excesssive. Worth it for a special occasion."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "Steaks great as always, service good. What's not to like? Wife had the Prime Rib, i had the Ribeye, both cooked perfectly. Fries were good, our 2 yr old loved them. Only let-down were the spring greens that were hard to even cut apart."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Upon arriving I was not initially impressed due to the fact that my party of 3 were sitting a couple of metres away from the door and a little bit further away from everyone else, which I do not like as I believe this lacks atmosphere - although this was not a big deal. The steak, as expected, was delicious. I got it plain, luckily the steak was so juicy that it didn't require any sauce. The triple cooked chips also didn't disappoint. If you go out purely for the food and not the experience, then go here. But if you would like somewhere that has a dedicated server for each table then do not. Expect to hear 'oh, did no one bring you any menus?'. The neglect didn't appear to be through lack of staff, it just seemed as though they didn't care."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "A great meal. the steak was gorgeous, and plenty of it. We were advised to share and unless you have a massive appetite you need to. Not the cheapest, but a really enjoyable time with lovely food"
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "High quality food, good service and good atmosphere. For us, it was a family meal with two kids on a Saturday afternoon. Plenty of other families and groups. Very good overall."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "This was my third visit to a Hawksmoor and a third branch visit at that! Once a month my best girl friend and I meet for 'date night' and treat ourselves. We got spoilt at Hawksmoor! The waitress was a-maz-ing, the food was delicious and the company was fabulous as always. We got the Express Menu choice and left stuffed. We highly recommend Hawksmoor Spitalfields!!"

  • "We ate Sunday lunch in the Spitalfields branch of Hawkesmoor. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Will definitely be back again"
