Hawksmoor Seven DialsPerfect againIt was my birthday on Saturday and the hawksmoor is my favourite!
Food was amazing, highly recommend.
We used the bar menu and were three very stuffed happy girls15/06/2013 00:00:00Nice surpriseI tried the burgers after always having the steak. Great bun and interesting toppings (eg kimchi). And because I shared a birthday with one of the staff, the restaurant threw in free dessert- great!14/06/2013 00:00:00Great Steak, Fantastic Ambience!I choose Hawksmoor over Gaucho not because of the quality of food alone, but primarily the ambience. Hawksmoor has a warmer and less pretentious atmosphere, from the deco to the staff who bring a more relaxed and friendly service.
I little on the expensive side, but you the food and the wine are top tier.
I would always book ahead though, gets busy at times. Recommend the Sirloin or Ribeye!14/06/2013 00:00:00Great experienceBeautifully laid out with great ambiance. Accommodating professional and down to earth waitstaff. Exceptional food - eye fillet was impressive, scallops and ribs as starters great as well.
One of the best in its price range.14/06/2013 00:00:00Yummy cowAlways great food. Had the ribeye this time was awesomely done!13/06/2013 00:00:00Birthday dinnerThe service was very good, laid back but friendly. The food was excellent. I had steak and chips and both were cooked to perfection. My only quibble is that we specifically ordered the Express menu as we had theatre tickets. I would not recomment Hawksmoor as pre-theatre restaurant as I constantly had my eye on the clock and our main course was delayed considerably. We ended up being late for the theatre in the end. However, the staff did acknowledge the lengthy wait and gave us our cocktails for free which was nice. I would recommend Hawksmoor for a long leisurely dinner.12/06/2013 00:00:00thoroughly enjoyable experienceI booked a table at 5pm on a Monday for a pre theatre meal not expecting there to be much ambience at this time, however we were pleasantly surprised. even though the restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived it had filled up within half an hour. staff were friendly and helpful, excellent cocktails and even for a non steak eater like me there were plenty of delicious options. I would recommend the peanut shortbread and salted caramel ice cream if you have room for dessert!10/06/2013 00:00:00We had a Chateaubriand betweenWe had a Chateaubriand between two - it was cooked as we requested but from the texture/grain of the meat and tenderness (not) I doubt if it had ever been part of a Tenderloin. The Flavour was certainly no better than the Mature Steak I buy at Bookers where I can buy two whole fillets for less than I paid for two portions. Over £100 for Steak for two (hardly) was absurd. Regrettably first and last time........10/06/2013 00:00:00The best steakhouse in London? This was our first time at a Hawksmoor, having eaten previously at JW, Maze Grill, Cut, 34 and Goodman. The others are all very American in style whilst this is more relaxed, lively and welcoming. The negatives, of which there are 2; the wooden floor makes it very loud. Romantic dinner for 2 it won't be! Secondly, the bar prices are quite high - £7 for a bottle of cider is a lot. However, the menu is very well priced with sensible sized steak and a truly eclectic choice of starters. We had potted shrimps, potted beef, ribs and bone marrow and they were all superb, especially the shrimp and the ribs. Steaks were all perfectly cooked, as were the sides. Desserts were outrageously good. The wine list is excellent and very good value - awesome!10/06/2013 00:00:00Shame about the serviceI came for a Sunday roast with my partner. The food was fantastic but the only downside to the restaurant is the service. Most of the waiters were grouped together having a chat. Although we wasn't sitting to far from where they were all grouped together, it was hard to make any eye contact to get service because they were so busy having a chat. Other then that everything was grate.09/06/2013 00:00:00literary geniousCocktail menu is brilliant, a must read. At last a justification for drinking every hour of the day. The asparagus and hollandaise starter was outstanding. Fabulous Bernaise sauce too.09/06/2013 00:00:00Superb steak, excellent wineSuperb steak, excellent wine and polite friendly service. An enjoyable experience.08/06/2013 00:00:00Still best steak in LondonThere has been a glut of steak houses in London in the past few years, but Hawksmoor (originally in Spitalfields and now also in Covent Garden) remains a cut above the rest, both with its extraordinary meats and the way they are prepared, and all its accompaniments (fantastic asparagus/hollandaise, sticky toffee dessert, etc), and wonderful, spirited and super-efficient service of the Antipodean style (hint: best in the world!). A total winner.08/06/2013 00:00:00Outstanding steak restaurantHawksmoor is perfect for a special occasion. Great atmosphere, relaxed enough, not too formal. The food is divine, melt in the mouth steaks complimented by delicious starters, sides and desserts. I would seriously recommend the peanut butter shortbread. The staff are experts in their meat (all British) and extremely helpful and friendly.08/06/2013 00:00:00Good experienceGreat restaurant in the hearth of Covent Garden. Excellent meat and outstanding service. Not cheap but good value for money in special occasions.08/06/2013 00:00:00Great service, good foodHad a pre theatre meal here on Saturday. The service was fantastic, they were very attentive and even chucked in a couple of glasses of prosecco as we were celebrating a birthday. The food was good (as you would expect for the price). Although we had a great meal, I would recommend this restaurant more for groups rather than couples as once the place filled up it was very noisy due to the layout of the place. For ambiance, Goucho has the edge.08/06/2013 00:00:00Value 4 moneyPlenty on the plate, well prepared, good taste, will come again. Nice and friendly staff. All my preordered items taken care off.08/06/2013 00:00:00Lived up to the hypeThe atmosphere and experience of dining at the seven dials Hawksmoor is classic, relaxed, food and drink focused and unpretentious. Like a gentleman's club that has opened it's doors to all. Its a lovely place to spend an evening.
The decor is welcoming and the food is all excellently prepared, simple but delicious. The staff are friendly, attentive but not too obsequious and explained the menu well. A good range of cocktails and wines to compliment the delicious beef. Really lovely experience and I will probably be back for the express menu which looked great value.07/06/2013 00:00:00Hawksmoor Seven DialsLast Friday I was due to meet a couple of friends on our way to the Royal Opera House for a 5pm start at Hawksmoor and a 7pm start at the opera. I was a little early, deposited my overnight bag with the ladies at the entrance and had a glass of white wine at the lively bar. My friends arrived and we sat down in the restaurant. My friends went for the 3 course pre-theatre menu and were impressed by the steak. I'm not a great meat-eater and had the scallops, half a lobster, some spinach and a dessert. Nice bottle of Olga Raffault's Chinon (it went well with my lobster as well as my friends' steaks) and had good service from our Estonian waiter (we thought he might have been South African or Dutch!). Nice meal and only 5 mins to the ROH.07/06/2013 00:00:00A very good experienceVery much enjoyed Hawksmoor. Great for steak lovers, and if you love big portions, you are well catered for, but at a price. A very large Chateaubriand steak for two to share will set you back over £100. On the other hand, the 2course prix fixe menu at £23.00 ea is great value, and includes an excellent 8 oz rib-eye.
Good wines and exceptional service. Very nice ambience too. Definitely recommended.07/06/2013 00:00:00Great but expensive mealI was so looking forward to my meal as I had it booked for months! I was not disappointed by the steak. We skipped the starters and shared a Porterhouse steak, triple cooked chips and a baked sweet potato. The steak was cooked to perfection. I prefer medium rare and my friend, medium so the large steak actually catered for us both. I had the middle rarer parts and she had the outer. The sweet potato was delicious - smoky and sweet. The chips were a bit of a disappointment - slightly cold and not crisp. We shared a chocolate and salted caramel tart which really tipped us over the edge as it was so rich. We shared a bottle of wine and the meal came to £140 for two. It was a pricey meal but it was a real treat with high expectations.07/06/2013 00:00:00Best steak ever!Absolutely excellent meal at Hawksmoor - I had the fillet steak (blue) and my brother had the t-bone (medium). Both were cooked to perfection, meltingly tender and full of flavour. Both the Stilton and anchovy sauces are yummy and well worth a try. The beef dripping chips were delicious too! Excellent cocktails and a waitress who couldn't have been nicer made it a fantastic evening.07/06/2013 00:00:00Terrific staff, very welcomingTerrific staff, very welcoming and knowledgeable.
Our steak was very fatty and unprompted they took 1/3 off the price of the meat. I would rather have had less fat, but still the gesture was appreciated.
Good starters, fantastic fries and dessert was delicious.
The malbec was very good albeit expensive.
Atmospheric venue.
Overall a very pleasant experience but it is expensive.06/06/2013 00:00:00Best steak in LondonWe had a delicious meal at Hawksmoor Seven Dials, food and service were outstanding. My husband eats out a lot in London and New York and he thought this was the best steak he has had in London In recent years.mNice relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a night out with friends.06/06/2013 00:00:00Dinner at HawksmoorFantastic meal as usual. Definitely my favourite steak restaurant in London.06/06/2013 00:00:00The best steak ever!We went here Wednesday evening for my birthday dinner whilst staying in London. We were expecting good things from other customer reviews and we were not disappointed! Refreshing cocktails, friendly staff & amazing steak. An epic evening! :)05/06/2013 00:00:00Steak eaters delightThe steak was delicious, the staff extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I will be back :o)05/06/2013 00:00:00best British steak in LondonI went to Hawksmoor with an ex colleague for a catch up. Loved the atmosphere, low lights in a basement, and the steak, to die for. I am more a fan of fiorentina steak, I would have liked it to be served on the hot grill like we do in Italy. Try the stilton hollandaise on the porterhouse cut.
Service: excellent. Our waitress sat down with us and passionately explained the differences between steak cuts and was very friendly. Will definitively come back!05/06/2013 00:00:00Consistently goodPotted beef and bacon with yorkshire puddings: great. Brixham crab: great. Fillet of beef: great. Hollandaise sauce with stilton: suicidal, but great. With efficient service and a cosy environment, this is never a cheap option but it is consistently good.04/06/2013 00:00:00No doubt - best steak in townI was a bit skeptical when I first read all the quotes about their Steaks and food.
But once I had my 400g Rib Eye steak on my plate and had the first bite - I knew those people were right.
It was simply the best steak I ever had in London!
We can also recommend the Filet which was literally melting in the mouth.
On top, the service was also outstanding. We celebrated my wife's birthday and the restaurant noticed that. Hence, they even served a candle on a nice plate with chocolates at the end.
I cannot wait to come back.
P.S.
Don't miss you try their homemade ketchup...... AWESOME!03/06/2013 00:00:00whole experience was amazing, whole experience was amazing, staff very attentitive, cocktails amazing the food was the final amazing part.02/06/2013 00:00:00We are from the US & ate hereWe are from the US & ate here for my husband's 40th birthday. It was great- good food, service & classy yet comfortable decor. We enjoyed it!02/06/2013 00:00:00A Reliable GreatAs a fan of Hawksmoor, I would always recommend this place. The Sunday roast however, whilst good, was a little disappointing: a beautiful piece of beef cooked to perfection, but the accompaniments, normally varied and a little different here, were rather dull: boiled cabbage, boiled buttered carrots and a couple of roast potatoes, plus a rather dry and uninspired Yorkshire pudding. The service however was outstanding: extremely friendly, efficient and helpful, and the desserts SUPERB (one of the few places where I can't resist).
I will go back...but it will be the à la carte next time.02/06/2013 00:00:00Quality meat and relaxed atmosphereA great steak restaurant. I have marked it down as our steaks were all a touch over-done and at that price one expects perfection!01/06/2013 00:00:00AmazingHawksmoor never fails to impress - the outstanding food and amazing dessert were memorable. We will certainly be returning - the food is second to none and much better than the main chain rival - a million times better!01/06/2013 00:00:00A pleasant one off experienceA lovely setting to bring in laws visiting from overseas after a show. Whilst the service was very good and the food also, the only slight disappointment was the steaks not cooked as requested. As a steak restaurant this was surprising. Having said that the quality of food was wonderful and this issue barely impacted on our dining experience.01/06/2013 00:00:00Great beefFood was amazing, the beef so delicious and the triple cooked chips. Sancerre wine was superb.31/05/2013 00:00:00The experience was excellent,The experience was excellent, the service was attentive and friendly, without being obtrusive and the food was amazing.31/05/2013 00:00:00PerfectionMy son and I are steak fans, so an ideal occasion - it was superb , great choice , flawless execution fantastic food, we will be back.30/05/2013 00:00:00Food was perfect!!Everything was great. Steak was beyond expectations! One of the best in ldn. Staffs were really friendly and helpful. Sides and dessert were great. Love this place and would come back :) though food is a bit pricey but defo worth a visit if you're a beef lover.29/05/2013 00:00:00I never write reviews but...I just thought I had to for the Hawksmoor Seven Dials. We went for a special occasion but on a budget, so opted for the cheaper Express post-theatre dinner menu. It was outstanding! the menu was simple and executed perfectly. Amazing steaks, one of the best roast sweet potato's I've ever eaten and some glorious deserts.
the cocktails were expertly done too, and the little extras for my girlfriends Birthday were a real touch. We'll certainly be back, with friends!29/05/2013 00:00:00Table for 2Delicious food with perfect ambience and the staff was very friendly.28/05/2013 00:00:00Birthday MealWent here for the second time on my partners birthday and had an outstanding meal yet again. Friendly and efficient service and food to a very high standard. Starters and steak for main were excellent as was the desert. Now developed a liking for popcorn ice cream. Really good evening and would go back there like a shot!28/05/2013 00:00:00Amazing for steakHawksmoor really is one of the best places in London for steak. Go on a Monday evening for wine club, £5 corkage on your own bottles.27/05/2013 00:00:00My go-to for a special occasionSteak that melts in your mouth, side dishes that are so good it's hard to choose just a couple, and deserts to die for. Add discrete but attentive service, and BYO on a Monday, and you have an outstanding night out. This is my special occasion restaurant, more expensive than I'm used to, but worth every penny. I know it's good when we're still talking about how good it was several days later!27/05/2013 00:00:00Meat and serviceHawksmoor leads on friendly service and, in the main, big lumps of excellent quality meat well prepared - they did both very well, the wines and limited range of deserts were very pleasant.26/05/2013 00:00:00Good Times & Great SteakA short walk from the hustle of Covent Garden, Hawksmore offers a friendly, stylish and memorable eating experience from start to finish.
Stepping beyond the black double doors that sit opposite Pineapple Studios, we were greeted by a hotel-style reception before being guided downstairs to the cellar-like heart of the restaurant. Here we were able to enjoy a drink at the long bar before moving on to our table. Once seated the service was friendly, professional and efficient.
The food on offer is certainly for meat lovers – with steak unsurprisingly being the focus of the menu. Our drinks arrived quickly, with our meals not too far behind. The steak was of a very high quality, seasoned well and mouth-watering when eaten.26/05/2013 00:00:00ExcellentHad a great night and everyone enjoyed the food and felt it was a special meal for my mothers birthday. Very pleased with this as my choice25/05/2013 00:00:00Hawksmoor has a very relaxedHawksmoor has a very relaxed atmosphere which belies the quality of the food. Located in a brick vaulted cellar, there is no daylight, but the place was buzzing for a late Saturday lunch. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rib-eye steaks are large - my elderly mother was slightly overwhelmed by hers - but very tasty, with a good selection of fresh side dishes, and went very well with a bottle of Argentinian Malbec. The scallops I had for a starter, served in their shells with a garlic and herb butter, were delicious. The meal was rounded off with a very good sticky toffee pudding for me and a raspberry panacotta for my Mum, which were both enjoyed enormously.25/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent food and serviceWe went to the Hawksmoor at seven dials for lunch before we went to the theatre. We chose from the Express menu with some additional sides. We enjoyed cocktails prior to our meal which were great. As for the food, we had excellent cuts of meat and the triple cooked chips were excellent also. The service was excellent and the waitress who served us was extremely attentive. All in all a great value option!25/05/2013 00:00:00
