A word from Hawksmoor Seven Dials
Winner of the Time Out Award for 'Best New Restaurant 2011', Hawksmoor Seven Dials has wowed fans and critics alike ever since it opened in 2010. Tucked away in a quiet street, the restaurant is loacted in the old Watney-Combe brewery and has retained some of the building's original features.
The 142-cover restaurant serves generously sized steaks, simple cooked on a charcoal grill, using beef from traditional British breeds supplied by award winning butchers The Ginger Pig.
Situated in the heart of London's Theatreland, Hawksmoor Seven Dials also has express pre and post theatre menus. The bar is ideal for casual burgers and hot dogs or for some of the best cocktails in London, including old school drinks and new.

Diner Reviews
  • "Booked Hawksmoor on the recommendation of a friend. So glad that we did. We were there to celebrate our children's birthdays and it didn't disappoint. The staff were very friendly, attentive but not overpowering. There was a huge choice of steaks and our waitress went through each one with us explaining the options on offer. Everything was as near to perfect as it could be. Would highly recommend and definitely be back again. "

  • "The best steak you'll find in London. The service is impeccable and incredibly kind. It's not posh, just classy—I love the relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth the money."

  • "I always look forward to eating at Hawksmoor and I am never disappointed. This time was no exception - my bone-in sirloin was perfectly cooked and amazingly tasty, while the sides were a perfect complement: I can definitely recommend the mac and cheese and the beef dripping potatoes. I will be back... As soon as possible."

  • "Fabulous lunch, great service with a very knowledgable waiter who guided us through the menu. We all had the set menu which was great value for superb food."

  • "I'm not sure I can really write further superlatives about the food, ambiance, general buzz and quality of this restaurant. It really has the best meat available - impeccably cooked, rested and served. Everything we had was perfect: the freshest crab on toast, a giant 'to share' rib-eye and fab salted chocolate caramel tart (do of course add chips - superb). I'm not usually that concerned about sommeliers but the guy who advised on the wine was incredibly knowledgeable and thanks to him had one of the best reds I've ever drunk at a restaurant that was just wonderful with the meat. 'Tis not cheap, but for a special night (or every night were I a banker) I would eat here as often as I could afford: outstanding ..."

  • "Went for a business lunch, great service and great food. £23 per head for an express 2-course lunch was good value."
    dined on 15/04/2014
  • "We enjoyed our meal at Hawksmoor very much. We had the prix fixe menu before theatre and the waiter made sure all was served in a timely fashion with still enough time to savor our meal. We would definitely return and would definitely recommend. "

  • "Good honest food and great service. It may be on the pricier side for some, but its worth every penny! Will be coming back for more! "

  • "I have been here four times now, always for the incredible steaks and the wonderful atmosphere. It's no fuss but still feels very special and the quality of the meat is what makes is total foodie bliss!"

  • "I chose Hawksmoor on the strength of their reputation as a steak restaurant. My fellow diner and I both decided on the 500gr sirloin. The well seasoned steak although very flavoursome was too tough to enjoy. Without any quibble the 2 steaks and sides were replaced but the new steaks were no better. We asked if we could amend our order to fillet steak and pay the difference. This was arranged at no extra cost and in fact we were given the entire meal for free as a way of apology. The service was faultless, our waitress was a delight. Difficult to recommend the food, hopefully just a one off bad experience. "

  • "Everything we ate was delicious and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the different cuts of meat although he omitted to tell us how to work out the cost .£13 per 100 g of meat when they recommend approximately 400 g per person works out at over £100 just for your steak and all the sides are extra ,even a sauce which I thought was a bit cheeky. However it was for a special occasion and everything that came up was great. One thing that they could do something about is he way the staff are dressed as they were all wearing scruffy jeans and t shirts ,dirty trainers etc.It was hard to tell who worked there and when you're paying that sort of money it would be nice to see the staff wearing something more in keeping with the surroundings."

  • "I took my parents and girlfriend to Hawksmoor after hearing excellent recommendations from friends, including 'the best Sunday dinner'. I was not disappointed, service was great, friendly, smiley, not over the top and the food arrived promptly. It was the best Sunday dinner that I've ever had or at least in recent memory and my companions second that notion. The carrots for example, I have never tasted carrots like them! Meat was cooked to perfection and the portions were more than ample, although I do admit to helping my girlfriend finish hers. Twenty pounds for Sunday lunch is on the steep side for most places but I must stress that this Sunday lunch was worth every penny. A go to place whether you live in London or are just visiting."

  • "Excellent Sunday lunch but only if you like beef. Beef was thick and nicely pink, plenty of roasts and Yorhshire pub but could do with a bit less cabbage - the side of mushrooms exellent A bit pricey but the food is excellent quality Recommend for a family/group celebration"

  • "Travelling from Kent with a close friend for a two-day London getaway. During the weeks before our reservation I read the online menu and chose my meal. Little did I know we would be given a different menu on the evening. Hawksmoor Seven Dials failed to replace their online winter menu with their spring menu and as a result, my desired meal was not on the new menu. It is very expensive at Hawksmoor Seven Dials and we were paying a lot of money for great food. For the best experience possible, I changed my order five minutes after it was made, much to the disappointment of our rude waitress. Felt uncomfortable as a result, which ruined the evening. Disappointing visit and a disappointing meal."

  • "This was our first visit back after having our baby. We were nervous at first because we weren't sure how it would work with a buggy. Well the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, the service was first class. We sat at a table for 4 and there was ample room. And the food? Dear god it's even better than I remembered! Steak of magnificent quality and proportions! The creamed spinach is still fantastic and the mushrooms... we'll be back :)"

  • "I have been going on about this place to my mates for ages and finally persuaded them to come for dinner and they all loved it! Half went for steaks and the other half for burgers and it was a fine feast for all of us!"

  • "I came for my birthday and was very impressed with the food and service. The waiter was very knowledgeable of all the different cuts of steak and of what gluten free options they had for my coeliac wife (a large amount as you would expect from a steak restaurant!) They actually had a very reasonable 'express meal' around £25 for a starter and a main course including their famous burgers and a 250g rib eye. I had some beautiful pork ribs to start with and since it was my birthday I shared a 650g Chateaubriand steak (which was plenty for 2 people) and it was amazing! As many had suggested the bone marrow gravy was to die for and they had a good selection of drinks and cocktails. Great for special occasions"

  • "The biggest criticism you can make is that its not the easiest place to find! Top class food well presented, not cheap but good value."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Mixed reviews, not as good as the last few times we have dined here. Food quality was varied but overall it was satisfactory"
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Order the bone in prime rib, as big as you can get it. Then get the triple cooked chips. Finally the bone marrow gravy. Then don't stop eating until everything is gone. If you still have some room left, eat whatever your companions have left. Then the chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake with the salted caramel rolos on the side. If you do all of this you will love yourself forever. I would liquidise this food and take a bath in it if I could."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Unfortunately, this restaurant failed to live up to the hype. The steak was under-cooked (we ordered medium rare and received blue), the sides were bland and the sauces too creamy and heavy. On the plus side, the cocktails were nice and the pork belly ribs as a starter had great flavour. The service was good and our waiter kindly took off one of the steaks from the bill as compensation."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "I asked for my steak to be welldone and it was pink and quite tough. I thought the service charge was expensive too. My wine was put at the other side of the restaurant so she could pour it for me but im quite capable of topping my own drink up. Cocktails so expensive, a long island tea was £17. I don't mind paying alot if i enjoy the meal but i didnt."

  • "We were visiting London for my 50th Birthday weekend and my husband was running the London Marathon. We came down with both our kids to make a family weekend of it. We wanted somewhere with good food and a lively atmosphere - our kids are 21& 23. This place was recommended to be by a friend. The waitress was very good at explaining all the different cuts of beef and kept us right about how many side dishes to order - she was spot on! This place is not cheap but was with the experience!"

  • "I had not been for a few months and was delighted that the restaurant is better than ever - food, service and ambience are excellent."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Lovely food, especially the mouthwatering steak, attentive service, reasonable prices. Would have appreciated slightly faster service as this was the pre-theatre menu and time between ordering and receiving desserts was quite long. Would definitely use again and recommend to friends."
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "I booked Hawksmoor online having done a fair amount of research into great places for pre-theatre dining. It couldn't have been more perfect for us. Lovely, fun staff, prompt service and excellent food. I had made a little comment on my booking that our night in London was a surprise for my boyfriend as it was his birthday, thinking that maybe we'd just get a nice table or something. But I was completely taken aback when they brought dessert out on a birthday plate, with a candle in, and then they said dessert was on the house! A really lovely and unexpected touch. We will definitely return and in the meantime I will be recommending to everyone!!"

  • "Very good steak. A bit too big piece for us. Our best steak experience in London."

  • "I dream about this combo and indulge in it as often as I can! The staff here go the extra mile personal and friendly but never instrusive"

  • "First visit to Hawksmoor, Seven Dials and was very impressed. The underground, cave like restaurant was surprisingly large but very cosy, with low orange lighting, brick arches and iron pillars. Service from the minute you set foot in the door was top notch. Efficient, polite and friendly to the end, our waitress was a star, explaining all the different cuts to us and helping us with our choice of wine. All the food was fantastic with highlights being the scallops to start and of course the Porterhouse steak to share. Everything was extremely tasty and cooked to perfection. Yes, the meat is very expensive but for a treat (this was a birthday) it is well worth it. Enjoy!"

  • "Nice evening meal at Hawksmoor in Covent Garden. Had chicken for my main but it wasnt to my liking - will be sticking to the unbeatable steaks next time! Good wine and ambiance, and not rushed."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "After all the excellent reviews, we were looking forward to our pre theatre meal. We ordered the express menu and both my wife and I ordered the ribeye steak. Although the steak was tender and of reasonable flavour, at least 30% was fat and gristle and therefore a disappointment. Because it was fairly dark, my wife unfortunately ate some of the fat which left her feeling bad afterwards and even the following morning. My wife ordered the dessert of peanut shortbread which was not good at all being hard and overcooked and reminded us of school dinners. By comparison with Smiths of Smithfields which is an excellent steak restaurant with vastly superior food, a better ambiance and much better value, Hawksmoor was a disappointment."

  • "Excellent meal at the Hawksmoor. Would definitely recommend to others. I had a 300g fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection! Very flavoursome meat (sourced from Yorkshire), which simply melted in my mouth. Together with the triple cooked chips and vegetables, this is a meal that was just right for a special occasion such as a birthday treat. As this was pre-theatre meal (where the show started at 7.45pm), we found that arriving at 6pm left us plenty of time to enjoy the meal and then walk to the Garrick Theatre in time for the show. With the fillet costing £34 with side dishes extra, some may find this restaurant pricey. However, value-for-money wise, this restaurant is top-notch. I'm always very happy to pay for good service."

  • "I have only been to this restaurant twice, both times for the Sunday Roast, and both times it was brilliant. Great atmosphere and service and an absolutely fantastic roast that I defy anyone to finish. I will definitely be going back."

  • "This restaurant regardless of the price was absolutely amazing. Anyone who likes steak needs to go here, its everything and more you would hope for."

  • "In the centre of Covent Garden, this place has a really nice feel about it – from the initial reception to the delivery of the food. Had a great Bloody Mary at the bar before heading into the restaurant. I was up for a starter but the waitress advised that the Sunday Roast was huge and probably shouldn’t – so glad I listened to her – it was enormous! Everything was really nicely cooked too – especially the bee. It isn’t the cheapest Sunday lunch but I think it is well worth it – the place is great, the staff were excellent and the food was very good too. Will be back!"

  • "I took my husband to Hawksmoor for his birthday because he is South African and LOVES his meat! I was sceptical about how much better the steaks could be here compared to most other top end restaurants and believed that you were just paying for the name. I was wrong. This is by far the best steak I have EVER had. It melted in the mouth. The rest of the meal was excellent too. Great for special occasions. However the restaurant is big, brightly lit and very busy, not particularly romantic.."

  • "Had a wonderful meal, as usual. Great steak and the Tamworth ribs were absolutely divine. They could do with slightly bigger portions of the sides though!"

  • "Hawksmoor Seven Dials is a real gem in London; you will not find a better steak restaurant. I went with my wife for a treat; we went for a late lunch. The service is fantastic and they are really accommodating. The atmosphere is relaxed the staff are knowledgeable. The art deco cocktail bar is amazing, they server up some real beauties. It is pricey but you pay for real quality food, you will not be disappointed. We will defiantly be going back. The bill: Two cocktails, mid-range bottle of red (£45), 900g Prime bone in rib steak chosen off the board, two triple cooked chips, two sauces (Béarnaise and Peppercorn),one side spinach and one salted caramel tart. Service included £186"

  • "What can I say always a great experience from main course through to dessert you will leave exceedingly happy but slightly lighter on your wallet . In my opinion they have the best sunday roast with very large portions at an affordable price just make sure you book a few weeks or so in advance to guarantee an agreeable time"
