The food is really tasty, the wine quaffable and the ambiance all play their part, as does the great staff. I went with a friend and we had a lovely little booth perfect if you were on a date which we weren't. Service was really friendly but not intrusive. We had 2 courses each and then shared a dessert (be warned desserts are very small) with a bottle of wine and coffees and a tip I think it came in under £60 but I can't be sure as I got treated. The venue is Warm and quite intimate so you can easily see what your fellow diners have ordered and are tucking into. There's some daily specials - I had excellent fish & chips and my guest had the lamb. We both had a crab salad (called by a grander name on the menu) which arrived fast and fresh.
Botled water, I'm afraid but a good Wine list with plenty by the glass.
My guest was most impressed and paid th bill even though it was my turn.

It is a quite well hidden underground bar and restauarnt which serves the best margaritas in the City. My starter was squid which was fresh and tasty and my main as always was the steak but due to being on weight watchers I asked for it to come with salad rather than the normal side of chips (the chips are amazing). The salad was great, not just a few lettuce leaves but green beans, tomatoes, spinach, advocado etc which was really lovely and I didn't miss the chips as much as I though I would. I was not disappointed. This is a little gem of a restuarant - set back from the road in a hidden courtyard off Cannon Street, the restaurant is below ground, but cosy rather than poky. The menu has good variety with a good choice of meats, seafood and vegetarian options. There is an extensive wine menu with a range of prices. My companions can be on the noisy side from time to time, but acoustics were very good so we could enjoy our conversation without feeling we were overheard or that we were disturbing other diners. It isWhere do I start .... It is probably the only restaurant in London that I have found where being a coeliac is not an issue, as soon as you mention your dietary requirement the staff do not look at you as if you are an alien. You are made to feel at ease in the knowledge that the chef and his staff know the ingredients very well.

I dined with a friend, and the star of our meal was the duck liver pate starter. I was also pleased to see the variety in the wine list - plenty of variety in the wines sold by the glass and a lot of bottles in the £18-25 bracket.
