A word from Guanabara
With its passion for music and full-on flavours, Guanabara has brought the best of Brazil to London’s Drury Lane. With two bars and a huge circular dance floor, it’s no surprise that this vibrant venue stays busy and bustling until the early hours. As well as showcasing hot new Brazilian bands and DJs, Guanabara also offers a taste of the various cooking styles from across the country. Start with snacks like cassava chips and chicken wings, then move on to something from the grill or the traditional feijoada (a hearty Brazilian stew with black beans, smoked pork and salt beef). Wash it all down with a bold South American wine or one of their excellent cocktails, made with exotic fruit flown in from Amazonian eco-farms.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Went here for pre theatre dinner for my anniversary. I'm very picky with my food but the veg option was nice. Hubby enjoyed his steak thoroughly and said it was the best service we have ever received. Probably helped that we were the only customers for the first 20 minutes of our meal. Only negative remarks is it is slightly dark and I would imagine gets quite loud and crowded in there later in the evening. Staff also need to remember to remain professional as our waitress was fantastic but when you're trying to enjoy a romantic dinner other staff should not be shouting SELFIE, taking photos, singing to amy winehouse at the top of their lungs and hump the stools."

  • "I took my friend to Guanabara for his birthday and it was an excellent evening. The staff were really friendly, polite and accommodating so we were very relaxed. The food was good and the entertainment was even better, overall a great evening."

  • "I met 3 of my friends for dinner at Guanabara on a Wednesday evening. We all had 2 courses which only came to £19.95 each. The cocktails were on 2 for 1 offer and they were very lovely, you could definitely taste the alcohol in them !! The entertainment and atmosphere was outstanding for a Wednesday evening, would definitely go there again."

  • "Very exciting, but quite noisy venue. Food was fine, especially my steak. Floor show was good, but long-ish intervals between acts. Mainly women on dancefloor, which is OK. Cocktails were OK, but a wider choice of beer would be nice."

  • "With the TT 50% off food promotion for early diners, a two course meal for two along with a happy hour £10 bottle of house wine results in under £15 per diner including the wine! However, they need to have a word with the DJ -- the usual sulky attention-seeking character who plagues nightclub venues --- who started his shift around 7 PM on Tuesday and immediately cranked the volume up to ludicrously high decibel levels (diners have to shout) despite it being an absolutely empty venue save for one other table of diners. The DJ being an idiot was eventually rectified with lower volume (remember - it was an empty venue), with tranquillity restored."

  • "I'll go again for a company night out. Good atmosphere and music. Staff were very friendly and happy hour seemed to last more than 1 hour!"

  • "The 50% off food deal here was excellent, especially as we arrived during happy hour which meant 2-for-1 cocktails and beer! The food was really nice and the place is really cool - it seems it turns into a club most nights but unfortunately we didn't stay there very late. Would definitely go back"

  • "I've been going to Guanabara for dancing and boozing for a few years. I took my new boyfriend there on a Wednesday night to see the circus performances & some food & drinks. The performances included 1 samba, 2 burlesque, 1 male pole dancer and a capoeira show. All of these were entertaining but do not expect cirque de soleil! After all you are getting in for free! The rump steak main, chorico starter, glass of Malbec and some cocktails I ordered were good but not outstanding. The atmosphere was buzzing and fun as always. If you have no tolerance for being approached by men, then you might find the venue overbearing on Saturday nights. But if you're determined to let your hair down & have a good night, there's enough to help you with it."

  • "I've only ever been to Guanabara for drinks before but have always loved the party atmosphere! I have recently booked a trip to South America with Rio my first port of call so this seemed the perfect place to celebrate! Happy Hour til 8 makes drinks very reasonable and the food was also reasonably priced. We shared a veggie platter for starters which was really good and I had a bean and rice concoction for main which was okay but came with delicious cheese bread. Our waitress was friendly enough but very slow with drinks. We ordered a mojito at about 7:45 but it didn't come to our table until about 8:15 and our waitress hovvered for the next 45 mins, keen to get us off the table for the next sitting. Slightly irritating!"

  • "Booked 30 mins before we turned up via top table. Got a great deal on the food and it's happy til 8. Added bonus was the entertainment. Have recommended to all my friends!"

  • "We were surprised at being bag and ID checked on entry, however, then realised it was also a dance club as well. Food was tasty and big portions as well as service being ok but a bit slow even with a small number of people there. Overall, good experience."

  • "Full of Fun...we had a 9pm table booked for 4.Door man hostess very friendly took us straight to our table, we had 2 course 2 bottles of wine 2 juices £35 each. Quality of food was great, atmosphere was brilliant vibrant dancing loud not for the faint hearted but we loved it I had been 6 yrs ago and it hadn't changed I would say great for a group night out def get a table so you can have a seat or get up and an dance if you wish ..overall a real fun night out"

  • "I don't normally leave reviews at all and it is only because I received an email asking me to leave a review I filled this out. From the moment I arrived I was spoken rudely by the doorman although a table had been booked. We went upstairs and waited for our table but the service was so poor and when the food did arrive there was no cutlery. It took an age to get service for cutlery and by the time we finished our food we were still waiting for the drinks we ordered. The identity is very confusing but I would only recommend to go there for drinks not for dinner. Really disappointed with the whole experience and would say it was a complete waste of my time."

  • "We enjoyed our Sat night meal at Guanabara-the food was nice and the atmosphere was great. The service was the only thing that let it down a bit. To be fair the girl was new but it was a little haphazard and she attempted to move us on from our table before the time we had been allocated was up. She also had to be asked to give us some privacy to sort out how we were going to be the bill, which was a little awkward. Overall it was a nice evening and I would recommend on the basis of the atmosphere."

  • "Came here with my boyfriend for dinner - the food was okay, although nothing special. We got the 50% off food offer and ended up paying about 40 pounds for 2 starters, two mains and 4 drinks, so very good value for money."
    dined on 13/11/2013
  • "Pity the service was so bad because the food itself is good and the club is very good too. Don't leave ANYTHING in your jackets as EVERY pocket get fully searched and all contents get fully wipped out."
    dined on 26/10/2013
  • "Friday evening is not a good time to find a Brazilian atmosphere at Guanabara. Specially if you want to have a diner around 9pm, you will find your diner table in the middle of a party with very loud music and surrounded by people dancing almost on your table. Do not go for diner there around 8 or 9pm. Guanabara should not allow people to book that late because they are not able to provide a good service. The waiter asked us what we wanted to drink, and when I asked for the menu he almost forced us to drink what he wanted (3 options only)."

  • "The food was excellent and so were the cocktails, however it was too loud to have a proper conversation."

  • "I booked this place for a group of 8 for a 30th birthday dinner for 7pm. We were treated well and told about the happy hour offers. We had to wait a while for the other guests who were running late but staff were fine. Atmosphere was really great. Live bongo player and lots of people getting up to enjoy the music. I was disappointed with the overall food which in our opinion was average and priced higher than what We would pay for it. The food came quick though. As it was a birthday I hoped and even requested they would be making it special for our birthday Girl with a freebie or some treat like dessert or a drink on the house but nothing. Most places I booked before have done this and makes the evening extra special, encouraging revisits."

  • "Food over priced, and it was so obvious none of it was cooked from fresh, even the chips tasted like oven chips. The steak tasted like something that was made a day prior then reheated. I must say the atmosphere is fantastic . But definitely too loud for a romantic date. Not a good place to go if you are after good food. But if you want to dance and shake a leg or two, then thumbs up. The drinks are pricey as well. A waiter kept on reminding me we had an hour or so to vacate our sits, even though most of the sits were not occupied."
    dined on 27/09/2013
  • "I recently went to Guanabara for a girly early dinner and cocktails, the service was quite poor in getting our order taken initially, but over eager in taking 'empty' plates and glasses. I say 'empty' because they essentially took your half drunken drink before you had finished while you werent looking. The food was medioce. My biggest gripe was the mojitos during happy hour were very watery and had very little run in them. Its a shame- after 6 majito's over a 3.5 hours, i left gunanabara sober. The nice thing about the venue is that its very chilled and relaxed, and has a great vibe, which was nice for the group i was in to catch up."

  • "I booked here with a group of friends for my birthday and had a great night! The samba drummers, dancers and band were amazing and the atmosphere was brilliant! Me and my friends love to dance and this didn't dissapoint. The passionfruit mojitos were delicious! I would definately go back :)"

  • "Probably booked to go wrong time of day for the real experience that Guanabara has to offer (early evening). I'd previously been at venue late night when live band were on and the atmosphere was great. Food was bland, uninspiring... Didn't really capture the flamboyance of the Brazilian culture as implied by promotional materials from the venue."
