A word from Goodman City
Goodman specialises in steak. Our chefs source the best beef from both sides of the Atlantic – from USDA ‘Prime’ corn-fed herds to grass-fed Scottish beef, grain-fed Irish Angus and rare breed Belted Galloway from Devon – to present a uniquely British interpretation of a New York grill. All of our meat is matured on-site – you can see it for yourself in our glass-walled dry-ageing room – then we cook it over charcoal for a fabulously smoky flavour. Couple that with one of London’s largest collections of American red wine and you’ve a match made in carnivore heaven. Our City of London venue is just round the corner from the Bank of England. Diner Reviews
  • "Food is good (lobster mac and cheese is a novelty) and the atmosphere quite buzzy but £100 per head plus for what is essentially steak and chips and a glass of vino is ludicrous. On botth occasons I have been there the service was polite anf friendly but overall very slow/unattentive and lunch took 3 hours."

  • "Always enjoy a steak at Goodman. Like this venue more than the Canary Wharf. Staff are attentive without being in the way and it is served efficiently and consistently."

  • "I love this restaurant, the steaks are always amazing and they have the best selection of sides. On this visit we were given the table by the visible meat chiller, just fabulous."

  • "Ive heard that this is the best burger in town - it's difficult to beat Little Social's - but this is a very very fine burger and a fun dining experience. The sides were lovely (e.g. lobster mac cheese, ribs etc) but not needed as it's a great feed. "

  • "Excellent experience. Repeat customer as we enjoy all the Goodmans restaurants so much. Party of 5 and everyone enjoyed the meal. Thank you."

  • "If you are a fan of steak and want the very best that London can offer I urge you to try the steak at Goodmans. We had the ribeye wagyu and all thought it was the best steak we've eaten. We've eaten at Gaucho, Hawksmoor etc and for us Goodmans is top of the list."

  • "I have been several times now and it is the staff who make the place for me - great knowledge, great service and friendly too. Apart from that I like a really good steak and they have the best !"

  • "Nice venue, reasonable food (breakfast) but very overpriced."

  • "Good food. Service ok, though could've been more attentive and slightly less curt. I realise it was a busy evening, but felt that personal diners like ourselves were very much second fiddle to the business dinner clientele. But that is what this restaurant is about- catering to City workers. I'd advise anyone else to go to the Goodman's in Mayfair instead."

  • "Although I admit I prefer Goodman Mayfair (it was fully booked that night), my first visit to Goodman City was a very pleasant experience too. The service was excellent, very quick and courteous. Food was delicious, we had a perfectly made medium-rare filet steak and the creme brûlée is always simply elysian… coming from Vienna, Goodman is always a must-be when visiting London!"

  • "We thought that Crispy and John were superb. Really enjoyed the experience."

  • "Starter - shrimp cocktail - delicious, very fresh steak amazing, side dishes ok nothing special and a bit over priced. Service - waitress was really nice but they were very busy and service was slow. The restaurant is very noisy, great atmosphere but for a business lunch, possibly not ideal."

  • "Goodmans city is a fabulous steak house that is always welcoming and buzzing. If you are looking for a fabulous meal, great service with some great cocktails - then Goodmans is just superb. The meal we had was lovely, the steak delicious and you can not beat the mac and cheese! All in all a fab evening."

  • "Would visit your restaurant more often if I lived in the UK. Did make sure I booked about four weeks in advance to make sure I could get a table! My Son recommended your restaurant as he works in the City and it is his favourite restaurant."

  • "My steak was thin, over cooked and only just warm. I ordered a 600 gram Angus rib-eye, which I requested to be cooked medium rare, however it was medium to well, dry, thin and chewy. I will not be rushing back to any Goodman restaurants, and I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone"

  • "The environment of the place is really nice The burger was amazing but the steaks seemed also really good I would definitely recommend the place It's a bit pricey and the service sometimes makes mistakes"

  • "Except for a waitress not so kind (all the other waitresses were very very nice and kind), we spent an amazing lunch at Goodman! Meat of excellent quality and fantastic environment! I'll be back for sure!"
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "Food was not great to be honest. Goodmans in Mayfair is substantially better. Meat quality, the carrots, the salad and the sauces were not as good as in Mayfair, which we were surprised by. Goodmans Mayfair remains our favourite steak restaurant in London, but the City outlet is just simply in a different (lower) class."

  • "Great meal for meat lovers and the lobster Mac and cheese was great."

  • "I went to Goodman City after several recommendations. Everything was fine and the atmosphere was nice. It's fairly pricey but not too bad by London standards. The real issue is that it's all about the steak and that isn't as nice as at Hawksmoor. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good but it isn't amazing. For info, I had the USDA Rib Eye so maybe other options were better."

  • "I have been to the Mayfair restaurant many times but this was my first visit to the City branch. Outstanding welcome and good service throughout. Despite there being 11 of us the steaks were perfectly cooked! Definitely recommended. Bring your wallet though!"

  • "Excelent meat and great service, fairly pricey so not your everyday canteen but this is probably the intent."

  • "The lobster bisque, steak and lobster mac and cheese were delicious!"

  • "as the subject. it is cheaper than hawksmoor but I still prefer Hawksmoor for better taste"

  • "Goodman feels like one of the last bastions of proper City restaurants - almost no women, most people are suit clad and with extortionately priced wine and meat. However, I don't begrudge them this - they do what they do very very well - there is no problem turning up in jeans and the staff are warm and welcoming. The food is simple but exactly what it should be and wonderfully decadent with truffle ships and lobster mac and cheese, if not on the pricey side. You will definitely end up eating too much but if someone else is paying it's a great dining option."

  • "Wow. Best steak I've had in a really long time. 400g of pure delight. Also, side dishes and wine were excellent. Service was extremely attentive. We all had a great time, would 100% recomment. Only downside would be that it's a tad loud, but this makes for a very lively atmosphere."

  • "Great steaks and side disches. Service was excellent! We had a large party of 8 and all food was delivered timely, hot and delicious."

  • "We all had a great time, 3 of our guests had never been to Goodman's previously but all expressed a desire to return, the food was 5 star top notch, the Steaks were amongst the best we have ever tasted. This was my 3rd Time at Goodman's but not my last."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Wow what a great meal we had. We started with the BBQ ribs which were the best we have ever had. We then shared a rib eye and a sirloin with chips and salad on the side. The steak was cooked perfectly and was mentioned in the mouth tasty. We will definitely going back despite the price."

  • "As a steak fanatic, I tend to be pretty harsh but I can not fault this place, the staff were friendly and attentive. I had the fois gras to start and it was amazing quality. I've lived in Belgium and France so trust me, it was deffinetly one of the best I've had. The steak was phenomenal. The best cuts of beef, and cooked to perfection. The sides were delicious and big enough to share between two. The wine selection is vast and there's something for everyone. The menu looks slightly expensive but for the portion size and quality, you won't regret spending a couple extra bucks! Long story short, if you are truly a steak lover, you need to try goodmans! Bonne degustation!"

  • "Went here for a business lunch on a Tuesday and having arrived well early, I was surprised to see how quickly the restaurant filled up, and how noisy it got. The acoustics are extremely poor so while Goodman’s is clearly a very popular choice for business lunches, it was impossible to conduct a conversation with my female guest who’s voice was completely drowned out. Steak is obviously not a girl thing anyway as there were only a handful of women even at the busiest time. The food was very good (try the truffle chips) but rather expensive, the wine list is extortionate with very few affordable options. Only when I got back to the office did I realise we were charged for the two side dishes that never arrived."

  • "I have been to Goodman's a few times and as always the food was great and wine selection impressive. As expected it was reassuringly expensive. The service was exceptional, it is the second time we have been lucky enough to have Leonie look after us. Thanks very much."

  • "went here on a weekday night, wasn't totally full of suits which pleasantly surprised me. steak was amazing. wine was good but a little pricier than I expected. lobster mac n cheese was slightly disappointing - wasn't a classic american mac n cheese, more like pasta in a lobster studded sauce. creamy spinach was fantastic. service was fantastic - not intrusive at all, but attentive and the team were really nice. definitely will come again and recommend to steak loving friends."

  • "I have dined twice at Goodman. The first time was exceptional, probably the bst steak I have ever had. Needless to say the 2nd occasion was much anticipated. We ordered food at 9.30pm. Regrettably most of the steak on specials board had been consumed. The waitress kinldy suggested asking the chef for anything available in similar sized/sirloin cut. Unfortunately what was delivered was a pre cooked, cold, sinewy piece of meat that I should have sent straight back to the kitchen. It was a business dinner and as the other gentleman was footing the bill I was hesitant to make an issue on the quality of the food. A great pity as in between the first and second meals I have extolled to virtues of Goodman to many friends and colleagues."

  • "I have eaten in many restaurants but every time I go to Goodmans the steak is amazing and the sides are simply YUM"

  • "Good well presented food. The service was excellent. Avoid the booths at the front of the restaurant on a Thursday evening as the bar attracts very loud crowds and makes any conversation nearly impossible. I had a 400gram bone in sirloin which was cooked as ordered. The side dishes are worth ordering several of as they are full flavoured and a perfect addition to the steaks. Expensive but a good place to go to when you want an excellent steak."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Goodmans for an early Valentines meal and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had a 900g chateaubriand between us (practically our body weight) and I can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever had. The service was also excellent and the whole experience felt very special. It is very pricy but then what would you expect in this area?"
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Steaks were cooked to perfection, even the one that had to be very well done for our pregnant friend. The wine was rather uninspiring which was a little disappointing given we'd asked for guidance, however, overall a very enjoyable evening out."

  • "I always enjoy dining at Goodman City, the ambience and the feel of the place is infectious. The different steaks are well explained, although choosing one is the tough bit. The food itself is well presented, and delicious. Be prepared to pay in excess of £50 per head (we enjoyed 2 bottles of a £50 Rioja so our price per person was £80). All in all well worth a visit."
