  • "You can't argue about the food at Gaucho - it is great. However to get five stars they need to improve the ambience. The food is rushed out to you and you are being asked to order dessert when only half way through the wine. And I am not a slow drinker. More thought and attention required to improving the customer experience IMHO. "

  • "The waiter brings a platter of uncooked meat to the table to explain the cuts . It's steak no mention of organic yet it's extremely expensive . The steak doesn't come with anything even the tiny receptacle with bernaise sauce was charged for. It tasted ok , good even. We sat outside for the river view which is lovely on a sunny day. There was no pork available on a bank holiday weekend. The waiter actually stroked the shoulder of my dining partner at one point When I returned from the bathroom he was in deep conversation with him, it seemed like he was chatting him up . The waiter didn't even look up or acknowledge me when I sat down , it was like a Little Britain comedy sketch. "

  • "This was our fourth visit. If we are going to Twickenham to watch some rugby, we book an hotel in Richmond and book a table at Gauchos after a friend recommended it. If you like steaks it is worth a visit. The various cuts of meat are brought to your table and explained and recommendations are given. "

  • "Went to Gaucho's with my children for my birthday. Had the fillet medallions which were fabulous though rather expensive at £30. Had been to Gaucho's in London before which was a slightly better atmosphere but the Richmond branch was very nicely located by the river. Pity there is no parking and we had a good 10 minute walk from The Green but we had a very nice evening."

  • "I booked this table 5 weeks ahead as I knew that Gaucho got very booked up. I requested a window table and checked the day before and they said 'no problem'. However we were stuck at a table at the back of the restaurant with no river views. When I pointed out to the Maitre d that not only had i booked the table 5 weeks earlier but checked the booking the day before he just smiled at me in a very patronising way and said 'everyone wants a window table madam'. Seriously patronising man and pretentious restaurant."

  • "The starters, steaks, wine list and deserts were really good, the service was amazing. The only 2 negatives, the ambience - the restaurant is very very dimly lit, i know thats meant to be part of the Gaucho brand, but its actually very dark & difficult to really see someone opposite you, the music was very loud for a restaurant, It was difficult to hear or see each other, and holding a conversation at times was near on impossible. The fact the wonderful waitress has trouble reading the total on the bill was also an indication! Other point, was the chips. Limp, tasteless, sad. But they looked after us amazingly staff are brilliant, steak WONDERFUL , and I will definately go back again, but during day, with little to say, and no chips"

  • "The good was very food really good however the waiting staff are constantly in sight or at times not at all. We had a great Italian waiter very professional and knew the food. It's over priced however you cannot fault the food at all it's divine, decor is lovely but music is so loud it's impossible to converse"

  • "It took me over 30 mins to just find the place also i asked for directions over 5 times and no one could help me"

  • "Postive: Food was great. Setting was spectacular Negative: Attention from waiters was overbearing. We were constantly being asked was everything ok. In the course of the evening, we were asked 9 times by three different waiters and we were continuously being asked if they could suggest a particular type of food (felt forced). It ruined the experience as our conversation was being interrupted."

  • "I visited with my girlfriend and some friends for her 20th Birthday celebration. Brilliant service and the steak was by far the best i have tasted. Highly recommended."

  • "Outstanding food and service, simply one of the best steak restaurants in London. It's the second time I've been here and the food and service were even better. A bit too much background noise from a very noisy group behind us but things got better after they left. A great venue for a special occasion."

  • "Food was good generally. Steak should have been hotter at £30 for a sirloin. Not sure that some of the guests can cope with 14% proof red wines! £266 for 2 (incl £130 wine) was steep IMO, probably return but not next week."

  • "A very pleasant meal, if a little on the pricey side. Waitress was very attentive (almost too much so). Took a while to get the bill but, in part, that was as the chef was preparing a Valentine's day greeting - even though this was several days earlier, the staff had noticed this from my special request when booking. Excellent choice of meats & very well prepared but, when compared to other specialist steak restaurants (including in the City) price was rather high. Interesting choice of table, right next to another couple, which didn't seem necessary given there weren't many diners (even later that evening). It satisfied my request for a view of the river but think, when there's space, it's unnecessary to seat right next to other diners."

  • "I ate at the Richmond Gaucho for my birthday on a Tuesday night. It was lively and busy. the food was nice but my steak was under cooked heavily (Rare) rather than Medium. It's difficult to tell though as the lighting in there is so dark you cant actually see the food. it was nice but I would have enjoyed it more if it had been cooked to how I asked, especially when your paying such a premium. I guess I could have asked for it to be sent back on the grill but I just don't like doing that. overall it was nice but pricey for what I could have cooked at home. (one tip is; try the San Lucas cocktail)"

  • "Mediocre steak. Completely undercooked (rare when should have been medium), then overcooked (medium-well). Rib-eye very fatty. Poor service. Very expensive for what it was. I am amazed this place is still in business - perhaps I have been spolit by experiencing real Argentinian steak in Argentina, and by numerous top steak restuarants in the US. Even so, this place was nowhere near as good a recent steak I cooked at home with meat from a local farm shop - which frankly must be embarrassing for Gaucho. Avoid, unless you have more money than sense - and even then you can probably find more enjoyable ways to waste your money !!"

  • "Had one of our best meals yet at Gaucho Grill on Mother's Day. My fillet was the best I've ever had, and my wife's rump was full of flavour - delicious. My two kids loved the steak and the burger as well, although my youngest would have preferred less relish in the burger. Service was impeccable - very impressive. The only downside is that the restaurant gets a bit noisy with the background music, and the prices are too high for essential side dishes. The steaks are slightly too expensive, but probably justifiable based on quality. Overall, don't be surprised to suffer bill shock when it comes to paying..."

  • "The Richmond branch is my favourite of the Gaucho franchises, providing a stunning location and great ambience. The waiters are so friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. I tried the Gaucho burger as I didn't feel like a steak; it was by far the best burger I have ever tasted and fantastic value for money! We will certainly be returning!"

  • "Gaucho in Richmond on a Thursday: quite busy inside, always a good sign. Gaucho isn't a regular haunt. What I like about Gaucho is that the atmosphere is always nice. It's dark, it's warm, and it has an industrious buzz about it. What I don't like about Gaucho is that sometimes it can be a little "bums on seats". The food was good. Not excellent but good. We had steak. No complaints. Reasonable sized cuts. Ribeye seldom disappoints and this was the case. The broken potatoes were good. Accompanying salad had excellent dressing. Perhaps a bigger portion? Significant other had crème brulee for desert. She said good but cold. Service adequate. Return? Yes but there are other places to visit first."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "Excellent food (speciality is Argentinian steak, but plenty of other choices) Extensive wine list, mostly above £50 per bottle Excellent service, just the right balance of attentive but not intrusive Bought my wife a birthday bun when I mention it on the booking Fairly expensive, but no worse than London prices Shame that it was so dark, we had to get our iPhone torches out to read the menu..."

  • "An excellent experience with great atmosphere and great food and service."

  • "The steaks are what this restaurant is all about and they were wonderful. The view of the Thames is also good and on a sunny day, the terrace would be a great place to eat and away from any traffic. This is certainly not a cheap restaurant, but it's in keeping with the affluent town of Richmond. Parking is expensive and scarce in the immediate area, so allow extra time."

  • "I went to Gaucho in Richmond on Friday lunchtime and had a very good experience, although my Ecuadorian company was surprised to see what I was served as the ceviche sampler and stated that he does not understand why the dish was called ceviche sampler as it was mix of tiraditos and ceviche. As I had no idea what it was supposed to look like or taste, I was happy as it tasted great. My main was also lovely and so was the vine. The prices were higher than what I would usually pay but fairly suitable considering the expensive feel of the restaurant, faultless service, knowledgeable waitress and very good treatment by all members of staff. The location right next to Thames is brilliant and was perfect for a date. I would definitely return."

  • "Exceptionally fine experience - food and service outstanding, allowed for a relaxed and entertaining evening."

  • "Excellent service, excellent food and as far as the location is concerned it does not get much better than Richmond's towpath! I love my steak and the meat at this place is simply cooked to perfection - we had the rib-eye and the burger and they were both great! The portions are a reasonable size, if you order more than one side you're most likely to struggle finishing your meal. The only downside for me was that some of the meals were a bit too salty. Oh, and there is zero to no light in the rest rooms, it was like an orientation exercise trying to find your way in and then back out :) A great experience all together, would definitely recommend!"

  • "My girlfriend and I came here on a hot Sunday afternoon in march. We started by sampling two of the cocktails, both of which exceeded expectations. They sat us next to the window so the views of the river were spectacular as the sun set. The staff talked us through the different cuts available and were helpful and well informed throughout. The food was sublime: we had fillet medallions with crushed potatoes and mushrooms. Easily the best steak I've had in London so far; so tender and juicy. We paired these with a £37.50 mailbox which was divine, then finished with a cheesecake and the recommended dessert wine. Very nice indeed. One criticism would be that the low lighting was perhaps a little too extreme."

  • "Top drawer restaurant. Felt a bit hurried at the start - I think we may have even been shown the meat board before we had ordered/received drinks etc (although admittedly we were an "early" table). Having said that, overall the quality of the food and service was exemplary as usual. £75+ a head so recommend keeping for special occaions."

  • "I took my wife there for her birthday and have to admit the experience we had was second to none. The seating was really good, service on the ball and food was spot on what we were expecting. Alittle pricey for regular nights out, but as a special occasion I would recommend it"

  • "Lovely place, very well decorated with very good service. The food: meat is very good but side dishes are hit an mix. I had spinach which was so salty that I couldn't eat; broken potatoes were over fried, etc. It's not what do you expect in that type of a restaurant."
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "A great dining experience with good ambience in a fantastic location. If anything, I found the staff a little too attentive, I must have been asked mid-conversation if everything was ok with my meal at least 3 times. The food was very tasty - not the best steak I've ever had, but cooked exactly to order, so no complaints there. Choice of wines was great - although a little steep compared to what you'd find the same bottle for in your local off-licence. Only reason I don't give this a 5 star was that my knife as laid out when we arrived was very obviously dirty - think they should have spotted that one..."
