Gaucho Richmond Ratings and Reviews
Delicious steaks, wonderful setting with...
Delicious steaks, wonderful setting with friendly yet professional service. Will definitely be back!
Went here for a business dinner for four people and both the food and service was very good. Would recommend for client entertaining as well as for special occasions.
I have frequented Richmond Gaucho since it first opened. Initially, it was good value, had high standard of food, and an excellent location. It still has one out of three. Soon after opening, its prices increased (as with all their restaurants) - as Gaucho decided they could extract profit without improving their offering. More recently, the standard of the food at Richmond has fallen. The last two times I visited, the quality of the steaks has been below average, and this last time, woeful. I had a direct comparison this time as the night before I enjoyed a brilliant chateaubriand at Raymond Blanc's pub in Teddington - at half the price. They obviously don't feel they need to bother anymore, as the location remains a major draw. But I did notice that the restaurant was particularly quiet - for the first time in my experience. Maybe other people have already cottoned on to the poor quality. It will be some time before I return to any Gaucho - there are better steak chains - Hawksmoor, Goodmans etc - at better value.
Amazing service and meal as ever
We live in Richmond and whilst Gaucho isn't ridiculously expensive, we try to go there for special occasions only. We absolutely love it. The service is always so attentive and there is a really romantic, funky ambience. I took my husband for his birthday and our meal was amazing. The chef also decorated my husband's dessert with 'Happy Birthday' in perfect handwriting and we were treated to two glasses of fizz. A lovely touch. Gaucho is equally gorgeous in summer. Love, love, love. Recommend it to anyone.
After receiving a poor dining experience our party decided to give it another go as all restaurants have a bad day, unfortunately we will not make that mistake again. Firstly we were sat right to the reception and bar which was so overcrowded that every time somebody walked passed one of our party was knocked into. Gaucho's had change the tables and chairs so much so that once you are seated your knee's are above seat which was very uncomfortable. Service was very very slow, so much so we were served by 3 different staff during the meal all of which hadn't communicated with each other. Steaks came on a wooden server so within 5 minutes the food was getting cold. All in all a very poor dining experience and one we will not be making again.
Brilliant Waitress and Delicious Food
We visited Gauchos Richmond on a Friday evening. Our waitress, Andi, was brilliant from the offset - very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, attentive, she really made our night. The food was absolutely delicious, as was the wine - all of which was explained to us first by Andi, who listened to what we liked and advised us from there, taking time to talk us through each cut, taste etc. We maybe wouldn't have dessert next time, they were nice but nowhere near the same standard as the starters and main courses. Also the first 2 courses leave you feeling very full! We were given little cards with the names of the wines we drank that night, as well as the recipe for one of the sauces which we particularly loved. The restaurant was absolutely packed and the service was still great, our drinks were constantly topped up. We will definitely be back.
Dirty, Undercooked Mussels and an Overcooked Steak
We ordered from the lunch menu Both ordered Mussels, which arrived under cooked and dirty. We sent these back and were replaced with a slightly disappointing soup. My rare steak then arrived Medium/Well. The table service was very attentive, if a little uncharacteristic. The lady who met us was a little snobby and did not sit the tables in the order in which they arrived, we were left to feel a little neglected.
Busy but still good service and food
Dined here with two Customers before the NZ v SA game and the restaurant was very busy as expected. However the service and the food were very good and the location is fantastic. The only downside was the noise levels which didn't bother us but I'd imagine if you were there for a quiet lunch you'd have been disappointed.
The Gaucho Richmond is nicely situated by the river, have excellent meats and very friendly and professional staff.
Really great experience
The staff were very attentive and friendly. They knew their stuff and were able to answer all our questions and the seat they gave us was on the river. It was beautiful. they also made a special dessert for our friends birthday as a surprise for him. Overall it was a lovely experience
Staff are excellent nothing was too much trouble made us feel at home on out first visit. Food again excellent (if you like steak). Atmosphere was busy with a great feeling.
Greeted well on arrival and shown to our table, introduced to one one the managers and our waitress. From then on first class experience. Food great , service superb and lovely room to dine in. Only wobble in the whole experience was the size of the bill, not cheap but you get quality when you pay for it. J c
Lovely location by the river
The food is lovely choose your steak and off you go. Service is polite, attentive without being smothering and knowledgeable. The cocktails are very good! The only downsides are the lighting is so dim we had to use our phone lights to read the menu and the time taken to serve each course we waited over an hour between main course and dessert.
Good food but bit chaotic
Service wasn't up to usual Groucho standards last weekend for our Sunday lunch. Food overall good but at these prices you expect exceptional service
The restaurant is in a lovely setting and the service is good. What let the side down was the food. We had Sunday lunch but the dinner was bland. The dessert was tasty but the portion was far too small so overall we dd not consider the meal good value for money.
Great location and friendly staff.
Restaurant is located in a nice area on the bank of Thames so the ambience is really superb. Staff seemed to know their stuff and were able to guide us very well on wine selections and meat options. The menu seemed like a good spread, however some portions were bit too small for the price...e.g, my fish dish that I ordered as a main seemed more like a small starter option. Restaurant seemed very noisy but outdoor seating is great. Outside area allows smoking, so beware if you are allergic to cigarette smoke. Overall I would say that the restaurant is a bit expensive for the level of sophistication, quality and service.
Busy but good
Went for lunch pre rugby. Was very busy but seated and served straight away. Food was all good, and wine very nice but quite expensive. Only complaint is that they said they had sold out of steak tartare, I thought it should be made fresh anyway , and they certainly hadn't sold out of filet steak. Disappointed as I don't often see it on a menu! Also card machine didn't work when tried twice so looked like it was me, then tried different machine which did work. Slightly embarrassing.
Went here for a mid-week meal with friends - was expecting great things for the prices charged. Unfortunately my steak was cold (not helped by it being served on a wooden board - what's wrong with old fashioned hot plates?!) and my friends steak was tough. We complained and the management gave us a free glass of wine.
Going to Gaucho is always a nice experience
The food is always good, so is the service. Last time we went with the kids and they loved it too, the staff was very friendly with them albeit the atmosphere is quite elegant, they don't mind kids at all. It's worth it the money.
The occasion for me and my carnivorous son was the England-Australia reubgy match at Twickenham. You might as well call it "pre theatre" for all the drama of England losing ignominiously. But the food was everything you'd expect from Gaucho. We both shared the 800g spiral cut rib-eye. Tender, juicy, perfectly cooked. Nothing more to say about the food. As good as ever at any Gaucho. Service was attentive and efficient. Fortunately it was a warm October day so we chose to eat outside - where they weren't playing their damn stupid loud music. Passing through the inside of the restaurant to go to the loo, each table occupied by rugby pre-theatre fans, the noise of people talking actually rose above the music. It had to. Had we been inside, the experience might actually have been unpleasant. Gaucho need to attend to this matter of loud music; the music does not add to the ambience - it near ruins it. But we were outside and the experience was first class.
A perfect lunch before the rugby with my 10 year old Son, superb service, lovely recommended wine by our hostess, good knowledge & knew what she was talking about. See you again soon.
A lovely place to go for a special occasion
The waitress Kinga was superb. So attentive and friendly. The ambience of the restaurant is perfect. Food excellent. Couldn't fault the whole experience.
Great lunch venue on a sunny October day.
It was a snap decision to try Gaucho, outside in the sunshine, by sampling the set lunch, possibly choosing the steak frites option as a way to sample the beef. However, as the mussels for the published starter hadn't arrived we opted instead for the main menu, choosing rump & fillet steak respectively after being shown the cuts & having the cooking methods explained. Wise decision, leaving us in no doubt about the quality of the ingredients. Delicious dessert too, and the service was very attentive. The prices make it a treat , rather than an everyday casual lunch venue, but definitely looking forward to a return visit.
Had reservation for 8.15 but weren't seated until 9. On arrival, were told table was just being set up. Lots of young blonde people on reception but no honest feedback about length of wait etc. not any offer of goodwill gesture eg complimentary drink while you wait as we are running behind.
Sunday lunch menu lookedgood but was unclear as to £5 supplement for beef roast. At extra ten pounds for two which was a nasty surprise. Food was good but cold and I don't think represents good value. I would not recommend it for a Sunday lunch.
Excellent restaurant for a romantic dinner
Beautiful decor and service, we first sat out side with a love bottle of white wine and then moved inside to enjoy our steak meal with a view of the river, the whole evening was a wonderful experience.
I booked a table for lunch at Gaucho Richmond for three of us visiting for the England v Wales match in the Rugby World Cup and was delighted by my choice. The outdoor seating area was glorious, with lovely views over the Thames. The service was superb from start to finish and the food was excellent, especially so considering we ordered from the lunch menu so as not to fill up too much! Would definitely go again and will recommend to others.
Loved the whole experience
Loved the whole experience ! Will come back for sure! Thanks a lot .
Nice pre-match lunch
perfect food prior to watching a good game of rugby.
Nice location and view
This Gaucho is located on the river which gives it a nice feel. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. The steaks aren't the best we've had in London, however we had a good time. The wine list is extensive and you can now buy the wines directly from Gaucho.
Fantastic food as always
Great food as always and the ambience at the Richmond location is always buzzy... Service is mixed and as usual it's a bit pricey for dinner out, but the quality and selection of food makes it a repeat favourite.
My partner always wanted to fine at Gaucho and as a surprise I decided to take her for birthday lunch. Great deal lunch menu with friendly staff and food. We enjoyed so much with a toddler outside We were also lucky with weather!
Beautiful Birthday Dinner
Fantastically looked after and great vibe in the restaurant. Food was delicious and the waiter was excellent. He helped us choose a perfect wine to accompany our choice of steaks. Complimentary glasses of champagne was a very special touch.
Steak wasn't great
Having been to Gaucho in Richmond a few times before I was really looking forward to my meal. I ordered the Fillet and it was quite tough and chewy, not at all what I'd experienced before. I left most of the steak on my plate but when they were clearing the plate away they didn't ask if it had been ok which was quite disappointing. It was my treat for my boyfriend and I didn't want to spoil it by moaning because his steak was really nice so I just left it but I don't think I'd go back. There are too many other good places to go to rather than take the chance when paying so much for dinner.
Has the set lunch meal. Enjoyed the steak and my dessert after. Had a lovely table by the window so enjoyed the view of the river.
Friday Night Gourmet
What a fantastic experience from the friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and of course the amazing food cooked to perfection. Being foodie's we eat out a couple of times a month and this is right up there with many places I have eaten. Go here and you wont be disappointed!!
Great location for a wonderful dining experience. Steaks are amazing and fantastic customer service. Yes it's expensive, but perfect for a special occasion.
Good but not entirely happy
We had a family meal at Gauchos Richmond. The food and drink were excellent, and the cost was roughly what I was expecting. The whole experience was good bar one thing: my partner and I ordered a glass of wine each, at what we believed (according to the menu) were around £7-8 each, happy to pay that as it was a special occasion. However when the bill came we had in fact paid £12 for each - it seems that more costly options, which I didn't see on the menu, were assumed to be the ones we wanted. I'm not annoyed as I should have challenged it and I didn't as I didn't want to spoil the occasion, but... I do feel like I was taken advantage of and the waiter knew what he was doing - frankly he could have clarified our choice. So on top of the delicious food taste, I do have a slightly bitter one which will remain a factor next time. My bad - agreed - but Gauchos could have been a touch classier I think.
Really enjoyed gauchos in richmond. Excellent food, decor and service. Waiters were very attentive and keen for you to enjoy the experience. Look forward to my next visit!!
we had a very enjoyable dinner at Gaucho in Richmond. we arrived a bit early and was seated straight away and the hostess, who was terrific brought us a glass of bubbly to welcome us. it was our first visit, but we will surely return!
