It was a special occasion and we were given a lovely table, the atmosphere was just right, nice background music but we could still here ourselves speak. The service was the best we have had in any restaurant we have been too. Tomato salad was surprisingly sweet and non-acidic - delicious. First choice wine was out of stock but a suitable replacement was offered. I would walk a mile for the fillet, cannot emphasize enough how great that was. We placed our orders and the assistant manager approached us and asked how we where and engaged in a conversation with us before leaving us to enjoy our night which I thought was a nice touch. We ordered the Gaucho's tasting plate and the trio of Medallions, both are three different cuts of steak which where both cooked perfect and tasted great. The General Manager Amie, then introduced herself and asked if everything was okay which again a great touch. We arrived early and were given the choice of drinking in the bar or sitting straight at a table. The front of house staff were friendly, efficient and incredibly welcoming. We didn't hold back on the menu front. It is possible to be a bit more frugal with your choices and spending but we had three courses, drank lots and made the most of our evening. It was incredibly expensive but we felt it was worth it. Jack, our waiter, was outstanding. He was informative and helped in making the difficult decision about which steak to choose. It was a lovely evening, we arrived at 7:30 and didn't leave until 10:30 and never did we feel rushed. We were given a table to have pre meal drinks where we got to try three wines that were being promoted. Once we had our drinks we where shown to our table the setting is great it has leather walls with cow hind backed seats and big chandeliers. We got our menu's and the waitress arrived with a board of meats to talk us through the different cuts. This was great as we all made our choices from the information provided. I got the Goucho's tasting plate this is a must for all foodies. I would also recommend the apple pancake for dessert after mine was attacked by others they ended up ordering it too. The service as always is very personable and efficient even though the waiting staff serve more than one table. The food is exquisite and my wife said its by far the best steak she has tasted! ( she had the fillet) I had a Ribeye and it was well you need to go there and try it yourself. I have visited Gaucho's on a number of occasions and always been impressed. This time I wasn't so impressed with the food choice. The meat at Gaucho is always beautifully cooked and tastes of perfection. However, this time I selected the beef escalopes and I feel they were way too thin. I felt there was more breadcrumbs than meat, and due to the meat being tenderised so thinly there were vast quantities of it. We were greeted at the door and as we were early offered a drink in the bar area. We both had 'THE CLARIDGE', the service and the cocktail was wonderful, really well mixed and you could taste all the ingredients. At our table we were handed menus and shown the 'meat board' with the cuts of meat, our server recommended either rump or fillet. Steaks were wonderfully cooked and the chips and sides were fantastic as well. We finished with a superb cheese board. My biggest resentment was asking for tap water - they gave us bottled and charged £4.25 for it! (A very small bottle too) it was Luke warm and quite frankly an unfair scam! When you include the tip we're talking nearly a fiver for a bit of water!! My girlfriend has only started to eat red meat again on the past 2 years after being a vegetarian for 14 years & she now understands what people mean when they talk about the quality of steak at Gaucho! She has only eaten rump or sirloin before & only eaten these steaks cooked well done. She chose the Rib-Eye & had it cooked medium to well & she also tried some of my fillet (medium) & was totally blown away by the experience! She has already decided that we shall be returning for Valentines day!
& not only that she will be ordering her steak medium next time as she can't believe that in the past she has eaten her steak well done.

They have an extensive wine list and good cocktail list too, if you are after a romantic evening then this is maybe not the restaurant for you as it is very noisy and the tables are very close together.

The overall experience wasn't quite as polished, however, it was still great. The portions were large and satisfying. The layout of the restaurant was nice with plenty of tables available for more private dining.
