Gaucho CityOutstanding Service Seals the DealAfter a disappointing experience at Gaucho Smithfield, I was loathed to try another City venue for Gaucho. However, from the moment we walked in, all staff were fully engaged, friendly and super helpful. The table service was excellent and the waitress had great knowledge and showed enormous passion.

I was there for dinner last night with a client and they made me feel like a king. I have been a couple of times with other people and liked it a lot. The only downside, and the reason behind 4 rather than 5 stars, is that whilst the service was exceptional and friendly once we were sat down, it was an effort getting to that point. We eventually got sat down 50 minutes after our booked time, and it was clear they were just sitting whoever complained first (it was pretty clear they had forgotten about us and had been sitting people who had come later than us until we said something).

There were 7 of us in total. Gaucho city is a very popular restaurant so we had to wait a couple of weeks for a lunchtime table which wasn't a problem. None of us had been before and by all accounts all who attended were very impressed.
The waitress was very polite and helpful at all times as well as being very attentive. She assisted all of us in recommending courses but without being pushy or too opinionated. The idea of showing you the meat cuts was pretty good in my opinion as it also gave you an idea of what to expect in terms of portion sizes.
I would definitely go again but only for special occasions.08/02/2013 00:00:00Some things just get betterAfter a few disappointments elsewhere in the City, it is great to see that Gaucho remains great. Seeing big slabs of beef on a board while the cuts are explained is a good way to whet the appetite. The starters arrived promptly and were bang on what was expected. The steaks were fantastically flavoured and cooked - just how a steak should be. It is no great surprise that a steak joint knows how to cook steak, but this was really good. Washed down with a good bottle of red. A great business lunch. Not cheap, but well worth splashing out on great food with sound service. It has a nice feel and not your typical stiff city dining, it was relaxed and there was no clock watching or pressure to leave by staff due to 'sittings'. The only criticism I have is that there could be a couple less tables, as towards the back of the restaurant it is a little cramped. Slightly irritatingly we were told when we arrived that there was a 1.5 hour limit on the table, which I wasn't aware of at booking. But they extended it by 15 minutes so in the end we had plenty of time. The steaks are not quite up there with those of Hawksmoor, in my view, but Gaucho's is more than just the steaks. It;'s as much about the drinks, the atmosphere, the sense of fun. And it's never failed in that. The food is good, and filling. I love the choice of a hundred malbecs. And the cocktails are good. The waitress was fantastic, very personable and helped us make decisions on what to eat, as some of us have never been to Gaucho before.
The food and wine were fantastic. Even though we got there too early for our table to be ready, we were treated like VIP guests and sat at the bar for a few drinks while waiting, and our table was ready exactly on time.
