Diner Reviews
  • "Gauchos has always been a favourite but this time the steaks were average and it was horrendously expensive. £100 for 2 with no starter, dessert's or coffee. Plenty of other places now that are better in terms of food and certainly value. Great service but sadly that's where the 5 stars ends."

  • "I booked a lunch time meal for my mothers birthday before going to the theatre and was really impressed with the speed the lunch time menu was served - perfect for us as we had limited time to enjoy our meal. It was my mum's first time at Gauchos and she loved the food, thought the service was amazing and friendly and said she would definately come back, so a very successful birthday lunch!"

  • "The steak was fantastic, however there was quite loud live music and difficult to hear conversation. I'd definitely go back for the steak but with a group of work mates instead - not recommended for a special occassion or couples meal."

  • "I've only been to Gauchos twice and loved both times. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful at all times! The live singer and guitar player were brilliant although a tiny bit to loud as we were sitting quiet close. I would defiantly recommend City Gauchos for romantic evening."

  • "An exceptional night at Gaucho with attentive service but in no ways over-bearing and delicious food. Very sweetly one of the waitresses asked whether we were celebrating anything and it was my husbands birthday. At the end of the meal he was presented with a plate of truffles with sparklers - great touch and made the night...particulary for me as the Gaucho sorted the birthday cake and nothing for me to bake! It's not a cheap night but well worth it for a special occassion."

  • "When you are sitting with colleagues with your arm in the air waving it around and they take turns waving their arms in the air and staff are just walking past; that is really bad service and yes I did ask the waitress why getting anyone's attention was so difficult and she said they were busy; well guess what, so am I! The food was average. The restaurant had blaring music so it was difficult to hear. I am sure someone somewhere loves it. On a positive note, the girl on the front desk was fantastic; very efficient, smart and friendly."

  • "We set out for a great meal and we received one. Great place, great steak. They made us feel welcome. Its my second time in that Goucho and I will keep going back."

  • "We had a lovely time at Gaucho City, good food, drinks and the staff were friendly too. Highly recommend it."

  • "Went to Gaucho for a business dinner. Getting a reservation was easy and the location was great. Food was very well prepared and the staff made us feel very welcome. We hard a variety of steaks and all were prepared well and seasoned perfectly. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Four of us on a business meal, we all had steaks with herbs and butter - best steak I have ever had, only criticism the steaks were on boards which were so big, they took up the whole table so struggled on where to put glasses and side dishes (so nothing too serious) would definitely recommend Staff were brilliant"

  • "Perfect service, wonderful steak, lovely environment, thank you again"

  • "the food was amazing, the staff were so friendly and helpful. they even took into account my preference of table and everything I noted while making the reservation. It is expensive, but perfect for special occasions, or a treat."

  • "I booked stating that my lunch needed to finish within a hour and a half. The staff took this onboard and I really appreciated them accomodating my request. They did bill me for another bottle of sparkling water which i just let slip due to the lack of time but honest mistake no doubt."

  • "Hello, went for the first time in this restaurant and even in a gaucho restaurant since coming from abroad and found the food delicious and service very good but i have one thing to complain about is the music which is much too lound. We come to a restaurant like this in the evening to have a good diner with friend but it was almost imposdible to speak. Please refrain from putting the music so loud. We are in a restaurant not a club and we dont need music after a whole day in a noisy office. Thanks"

  • "I've been to Gaucho City before and had a great meal there. I wanted to take a friend out for the best steak in London and got it here. A great night out."

  • "great place and clients love it. Good food, great atmosphere"

  • "My wife and my first time at a Gaucho Restaurant. The steaks we had were tender and overall very enjoyable. On the downside we found the lighting too low for our liking, the adjacent tables on both sides were too close and you could not avoid over hearing every word of our neighbours conversations and whilst the waitresses were trying to be very attentive, it did seem to be a bit too frenetic as they moved between the tables they were covering. We also found the menu difficult to read, maybe because of the lighting and may be the print could have been larger and the prices shown in black font instead of grey. Overall experience 5/10."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "The food and service was fantastic! Unfortunately my train was delayed by 30 mins due to the floods and Gaucho would only hold my table for 15 mins, despite me phoning on several occasions to update them and say we were not far away! This wasn't very helpful as they knew I was still attending and I had pre-booked way in advance. That said, once we had arrived the staff were very efficient and friendly and the food was sublime. The wine choices were also fantastic. I would defintely recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again soon."

  • "We are here for the first time at the weekend - the staff were attentive, courteous and knowledgeable about their menu. The explanation of which cuts of beef took to particular cooking times was very helpful. 400g of rib eye steak later (perfectly - and I mean perfectly - cooked) and my stomach was very happy. The chic ambience adds to the feeling you're eating somewhere casual yet classy - I loved it here and will definitely be back. Service was outstanding - plenty of staff who knew their stuff - a great and refreshing contrast to a lot of places in London nowadays."

  • "Waitress was very welcoming and helpful, she was constantly refilling our glasses and clearing our table for us. She also steered me away from having my steak medium well as it will reduce the flavours and recommended medium rare, she was spot on. Very good food, great atmosphere and very helpful staff, perfect for special occasions."

  • "I went to Gaucho's Tower Bridge a few weeks ago and was given perfect service. The door was opened on arrival, coats checked, excellent waitress service taking time with her customer. I was given tasters of the wine without request and recommendations on what goes with my meal. Upon leaving I was offered a taxi and coats were ready. Then this weekend at Gaucho's City. Expecting to be wowed again. no door welcome, the employee on the front desk shouting over the music/earplug in her ear. Waited a few minutes for our coats were taken. Not offered wine tasters (given on request) and on exiting lost our coats and had to go into the coat room to find them not hung, scrumpled on a chair. Fair to say I won't be returning to the city branch."

  • "I took my bf here for a celebratory meal.. He loves his steaks but I am a vegetarian.. The one vegetarian option was very disappointing, would never eat it again. The steak was good but apparently not as good as he has had before. Our evening wasn't as enjoyable as we hoped it would be. Don't think we will be going to Gaucho again."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "The atmosphere was great and the steak amazing!! Very helpful waitress. Been to a few gaucho's but this one was the best to date!"
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Go for the spiral cut. Better food in general if you go when there's less people around and kitchen isn't too busy. The staff can be a bit overly attentive, but service is usually good."
    dined on 10/02/2014
  • "Great steak, fabulous wines, attentive service what more could you ask for?? We splashed out and it ce to around £100 per head but it was a great meal and great wine!"
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "reliable, you know the food is going to be good, if a little pretentious, but if you can get past the cowhide dotted chairs the meat is great"

  • "Excellent business lunch with tasty hearty food and attentive attractive service."

  • "Everything was good! But waiters were a bit pushy and bothersome!"
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "this just didn't work....£300 for 4. my steak was unbelievably salty from the marinade... plates were cold. dessert was tiny and tepid. starters, wine and service were great. canned music was loud and aweful"
    dined on 03/01/2014
  • "It is a nice feeling coming back to a restaurant that you feel welcome in and where the wine and food always works for you."
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "Very pushy waitress staff obviously on commission for shifting as many cocktails and bottles of wine as possible. Constantly topping up glasses even when glasses not nearly empty. Very overpowering but food was OK"
    dined on 20/12/2013
  • "Food and service were very good but unforuately there was a major problem with the level of noise. Tables are very close together and with the restaurant being full. This combined with the music meant it was virtually impossible to hear the waitresses or my guest. It was not just me - my guest had the same complaint."
    dined on 19/12/2013
  • "I took a few clients here for our annual lunch, although i cannot fault the food and atmosphere, it would have been good to receive the food that we ordered, as the only time i saw the sides we ordered were on the BILL. I asked for them to remove these, and received no real apology for this. For a £500 lunch, i would have expected more"
    dined on 19/12/2013
  • "....the title says it all. All three were for work lunches. I only now go for the fillet steak as I know how good it is. I like the little touch that they don't even give you a steak knife as they know a normal knife will fall through it. I tried the truffle mash for the first time however it wasn't all mixed together, just mash with truffle sprinkled on it. The vegetable side options aren't quite as good as Hawksmoore. would still recommend the place though"
    dined on 09/12/2013
  • "I'm afraid that although the food was very good, the overall experience was poor. I had a business lunch, on 19th Dec. tables were packed in so tightly, staff were over stretched, and we were thrown off our table very hastily to make way for next sitting. I had to apologise to the potential client I'd taken there. We had to finish our coffees perched on barstools in a busy walkway. Not sure I would go back for business lunches. This is a shame because my previous experience of various Gaucho's has been very good"

  • "The service from the team was excellent, Julinda really looked after us all in a tremendously professional manner with a wonderful smile. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the wine and the cheese. We will be back again very soon."
    dined on 18/12/2013
  • "The restaurant is somewhat out of the way being under the Cross keys Pub. Inside everything is dark and Black with Cow skins on the chairs and walls. Service was first class and friendly. They bring the various cuts of steak to your table and explain what they are. We had the rump steak which is served on a large wooden board. the steak was not your traditional shape in that it was long, about 12 inches. It was however one of the best I have eaten and I do try lots of places, Jamie Oliver Barbecoa last month. 2 steaks, 5 sides, 2 starters, 3 beers, tip was £160. Will be happy to go back."
