Recommeded.11/05/2013 00:00:00A favourite venueMy husband and I have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions now and, if we lived nearer, would go even more often. The food is excellent, the staff are delightful and the venue itself is extremely pleasant - inside and outside. I have no hesitation in recommending it. We have taken various friends there too and they have also enjoyed it very much. The restaurant also offers a loyalty card giving quite a discount on future meals so, the more you go, the more you save! I had the ale battered fish and chips which I think I can honestly say was the best fish and chips I have ever had. We both had chocolate brownies for pudding which were just divine. The service was perfect, very friendly and efficient even though they were busy. The service improved from there on in, with courteous and friendly staff. The decor is plain, clean and 'olde worlde' - log fires and beams. Delightful young people serving and quick service. We both had fish and the dishes were well-presented and tasty. Portions not enormous but we were happy with that and did not waste anything!

The food and service are fantastic although one person asking if the food was ok would have been enough instead of three! They were very accommodating and couldn't do enough for you. We booked beforehand as we were worried that on Sunday it would be too full. The food was excellent as always, I had the seafood scampi which came with french fries and a lovely garlic/tartar dip. My husband had a burger which was massive! The children's menu is limited but fine for what we wanted. It is more than 'pub grub' and has lovely linen napkins! The venue is rustic with wooden floors and it is dog friendly. The service is excellent, there are different items on the menu which are very very tasty. The evening meal was superb and we were able to bring a 7 week old baby knowing we could be in a small area where we would not disturb others, if he didn't sleep. In fact he did not murmur. It was clean, smart, homely, delicious...the service was fast and friendly. They had only booked one seating per evening so no one was rushed at all and they could get everything perfect (including special requests). I've been here on another occassion which was also fantastic (just stressing that it wasn't just this occassion that they went the extra mile). I cannot recommend highly enough. Very good food often with a difference. During the summer the outside dinning areas are lovely and it makes a really nice place for lunch. It's not the cheapest but I believe they target the mid to higher end of the market. They're very keen to please. Stargazy pie looked good and the fish inside was tasty, but the pie contents were a bit watery. Desserts well judged on quantity - seasonal and tempting. The staff were extremely accommodating, offering us an alternative table if we wanted it and not pestering us for our orders.
The service, after our daughter arrived was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, and the food was terrific as well.
