Ganapati RestaurantSouth Indian in South LondonFabulous, delightful, gorgeous food. No gimmicks, just delicious food and a nice atmosphere. And good prices as well. Wouldn't go anywhere else in Peckham16/05/2013 00:00:00Ganapati never lets me down.
YearsGanapati never lets me down.
Years ago I took my girlfriend there to impress her, when things progressed I took her there to tell her I wanted her to marry me. Much later, after our wedding we went for Sunday lunch. Years more and we're expecting, a trip to Ganapati got things moving. And this Sunday, whilst my mother in Law is in town from Mexico to help look after our new born child, who doesn't speak any english and was missing excellent, homemade, spicy, delicious and authentic food. Ganapati, once again, did not let me down. And my infant daughter seemed to like the smells and sounds. We're looking forward to her first meal there one day too.12/05/2013 00:00:00A different IndianVery unpretentious, delicious food and friendly service. All the tastes were unusual and in many cases we had nothing like it before,10/05/2013 00:00:00A gem in PeckhamWe have been here a couple of times and always leave happy. Good food, friendly service, nice little restaurant. They'll call a cab for you when you're ready. The food is a nice reminder of our time in S India.08/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely meal, great serviceAlthough I've been to Ganapati, a couple of times before, it had been a few years since my last trip, which unfortunately wasn't a great experience. This time however I had a lovely meal, and great service and will be back sooner. All the dishes we had were interesting and very tasty, and the service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. I would highly recommend the kurd rice, which was absolutely great.05/05/2013 00:00:00Delightful, original IndianAn excellent find - interesting south Indian food served with a smile in a homely atmosphere.27/04/2013 00:00:00We have been to Ganapati aWe have been to Ganapati a few times and once again we had a lovely evening. Vegetarian street snacks, tiger prawn curry and chicken curry were all very delicious. The only downside - my husband found the beetroot in the lamb curry very overpowering so was not very keen on his main. We'd definitely go back again.26/04/2013 00:00:00Another memorable meal atAnother memorable meal at Ganapati.
All the dishes were new to us but delicious and authentic.
We loved the prawn dish and sorbet
and will come again when next in London.07/04/2013 00:00:00Hidden gemFirst rate food, absolutely delicious: creative and interesting array of flavours and colours, prepared and served with love in friendly, warm, laid back setting. Filled with happy diners. Planets away from your late nite cuz 'n' lager joint, this is classy stuff, a real hidden gem. Cannot recommend highly enough.07/04/2013 00:00:00A fabulous Indian restaurant!I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, the food, service and ambience is brilliant.
If you love Indian food and don't want a oily bad english version of Indian food often served in London restaurants then this is the place for you, authentic food, fresh ingredients and just somewhere you want to come back to again and again.04/04/2013 00:00:00Peckish in Peckham?Delicious South Indian food well presented. Felt as if I was back home in Bangalore. My only suggestion is, if you like it hot, then ask for a bit more chilli. 1st time here but can reccommend the king prawn curry, dosa, mini thalis and the paratha. Ice cream and Gulub Jamun was home made and yummy! Try the local India Pale Ale, best beer I have had in England for a very long time. Good service too. Shall be going back very soon.31/03/2013 00:00:00DeliciousYummy authentic South Indian food. Cannot recommend highly enough!28/03/2013 00:00:00Quite superbIf you thought you knew Indian cuisine, think again. This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been too. The food was light, refreshing, and simply delicious. We each chose a dish (chicken, king fish, spinach and lentils) and then shared, so we got to taste everything and I could not find fault with a single dish. We had parathas unlike any I have tasted they were so light and delicious. The desserts were just as good, The rosewater and lychee sorbet was a revelation and the white chocolate and cardamon icecream was surprising light and not too sweet. The chocalte chillie and cardamom cake was a bit dry for my taste but others loved it. Do try the Indian white wine - another first for me but superb. Highly recommended.13/03/2013 00:00:00Ganapati - so good!Hadn't been for nearly a year, but really pleased to see it hasn't changed one jot. The service is super friendly, yet discreet; the ambience is "neighbourhood" and relaxed; and the food is HEAVENLY. it was also the first time I took my toddler and the waitress helped us find something suitable (i.e. not too spicy) for her palate and was happy to deal with her shouting ice cream at the top of her voice after our main meal and made nice faces for her :) its quite a small place, so make sure you can fold your pram though. we had various starters, shellfish curry, lamb and beetroot curry and white choc and cardomen ice cream - all delish. my only criticism was the chilli chocolate cake - a little too hot for me (and I do like my spices!)10/03/2013 00:00:00Highly recommended'Best Southern Indian Restaurant in London. I totally love Ganapati, the chefs and the staff! Always such a pleasure to eat such incredible fresh food and never disappointed and I have been coming back ever since it opened 8 years ago! Highly recommended!05/03/2013 00:00:00GanapatiFantastic real south Indian food, with full explanations, freshly cooked and incredibly tasty01/03/2013 00:00:00Ganapati is greatFantastic food, a great evening out, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Despite being busy the service was attentive not pushy. I would struggle to find a word of criticism. Excellent.01/03/2013 00:00:00Gorgeous FoodI have to say this is one of the nicest meals I have eaten for quite some time. As I am moving to Peckham soon I am sure I will become quite a regular.26/02/2013 00:00:00Nice One! My sister up fromNice One! My sister up from Marazion, Cornwall, wanted to eat South Indian food , especially masala dosai. She remembered masala dosai fondly from her years in the 1970's when she lived near Tooting, where there were a couple of south Indian restaurants, rough and ready but cheap and interesting...
Ganapati is a shortish walk away from my Peckham/Camberwell border flat. It has excellent south Indian food -- proper stuff ( I lived in Sri Lanka for 25 years so I know authentic Tamil and Keralan food) --and a cheerful ambience, very Ganeshish...he is after all the God who removes obstacles...with cheerily knowledgeable waitresses... well worth a visit and I have been 4 or 5 times now..keep it up
Jane Russell26/02/2013 00:00:00highly recommendHad a lovely evening at ganapati. The restaurant is a small friendly south Indian restaurant with a menu that is authentic, the food is fresh lovely and unpretentious. It's good value and I'd definitely go again and recommend it to friends.15/02/2013 00:00:00Great for lunch tooWe've been going to Ganapati for a few years now, mostly for special occassions. It can be on the more expensive side if you have dinner there and go all out on starter, main and pudding.
For lunch, though, it's amazing value for what you get. The best curry in South East London for the price of a posh sandwich - you can't go wrong!
Would thoroughly recommend.15/02/2013 00:00:00Perfect placefor teenage birthdayPerfect placefor teenage birthday party.great food abduction wonderful service.15/02/2013 00:00:00A nice Southern Indian restaurantA nice Southern Indian restaurant with some great food, albeit in smaller potions you would imagine considering the price. Friendly staff and close to the bars on Belenden road for pre/post drinks 4/515/02/2013 00:00:00FabulousGanapati remains one of my favourite restaurants...not just as it is local but also in London. Fabulous different foods and a regulalry changing menu and paratha to die for....06/02/2013 00:00:00As usual, amazing! Our favourite local restaurant. Never fails to impress. Food is outstanding and have been there at least a dozen times in last 18 months - is always brilliant. Incredible flavours, innovative dishes. Always packed so you must book31/01/2013 16:00:00Ganapati at last.Heard a lot about ganapati went there for first time, a very cosy little place off the high street. Very happy that the service was not done by slackers as in other Indian restaurants. Waiters were helpful and attentive even for a solo diner like me. Food was pricy but it sort of balances out with the ambience of the place. Food was creative but not that spicy but understandable. It can get busy even midweek.29/01/2013 16:00:00Great local gemI love this place - the cocktails are brilliant, the food is really flavoursome and always seasonal. Our rabbit curry was fantastic, and the seafood masala absolutely delicious. It is a little pricier than your 'average' Indian, but the food is far from your standard Indian fare so it is absolutely worth paying a little extra. Service is super friendly as well.24/01/2013 16:00:00I have taken various differentI have taken various different people to Ganapati and each time they have thought it was amazing. This time there was a mess up with the tables but they phoned ahead and we agreed to come 15 minutes later. Our table still had people on it so they gave us free drinks, which made us more than happy. The food was delicious as ever - lots of interesting flavours and the waitresses were very friendly.23/01/2013 16:00:00Been back twice in a month!Cosy, busy restaurant. Lovely staff and delicious food22/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent again! My boyfriend & I ate at Ganapati for a second time having enjoyed it so much the first time. Even my memory deceived me on just how outstanding the food is! Each dish was heavily infused with herbs & spices but all to a perfect balance. The samosas were fresh & crispy, far from the greasy, stodgy ones we've become accustomed to. I will be back here very soon.19/01/2013 16:00:00Really great cuisine. TheReally great cuisine. The food is always freshly prepared, even the dips and chutneys for the papadams. You can taste the flavours of the spices rather than just having hot food, and many of the dishes are surprisingly light. Decent size portions too, but try and leave space for one of the exciting puddings! This is far from a 'curry house'. And the staff are super-lovely too. Would definitely recommend.18/01/2013 16:00:00Strength to strengthWe've been going here since it first opened. It has consistently provided great food and service over the years. Due to a longer than average spell between visits this time, the menu had completely changed. Everything we ate between 4 people was super. My only quibble is that they have stopped selling Cobra lager. The Meantime Brewery London lager is not to my taste and this does put a slight dampener on the overall experience.16/01/2013 16:00:00Ganapati is always wonderful.Ganapati is always wonderful. Not your average curry house, the flavours are all so distinct and the dishes so fresh and delicious. It's a cute little space too, beautifully designed.15/01/2013 16:00:00Fantastic food, really freshFantastic food, really fresh and a great experience. If you truly love home cooked beautifully prepared Indian food with some less than normal choices you will love it here. Already looking forward to my next visit!08/01/2013 16:00:00Sunday lunchesI love this neighbourhood restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and clearly passionate about the food they serve. The ambience is relaxed and cosy and the food is fantastic! They change the menu regularly and serve Southern Indian curries, street foods, snacks and sweets that are all wonderful. This is the kind of restaurant where you know anything you choose will be great!05/01/2013 16:00:00The Best AroundDefinitely the best restaurant around this area! Everything is perfect about this place, the service is attentive and friendly without being formal and the food is just outstanding but while it is worth every penny it isn't dirt cheap. The menu changes regularly and includes great options for vegetarians- meat dishes are in the minority. Incredibly tasty and you'll do well to leave without being tempted by a chocolate and cardomen brownie...even if you are stuffed! Highly recommended.03/01/2013 16:00:00Still got itFirst went about 4 years ago for a birthday and enjoyed the food and service. Went again last week this time on a date and found the food to still be excellent, and the warm and cosy atmosphere still second to none, along with friendly and knowledgeable/attentive service. Also discovered that Indian white wine is pretty tasty!
Only criticism though is that it is a bit pricey for what it is. A house wine shouldn't have to cost £17.50 and a starter of two small samosas shouldn't need to be £5. Better value shareable starters and house wines would make the place more accessible and affordable to many, esp in the current financial climate. Other than that though, all good :)28/12/2012 16:00:00Excellent local restaurantGanapati is local to us and can always be relied upon for a really good, tasty indian feast. This time we went 2 days before Christmas so the restaurant was full of groups, giving a nice festive atmosphere. The menu is small but changes regularly, and there are lots of vegetarian options to complement the meat dishes. Ganapati is worth a journey to Peckham but book before hand because there are only a few tables in the restaurant.23/12/2012 00:00:00I live locally and have beenI live locally and have been meaning to try this restaurant for ages, I now regret not going sooner - it was excellent.
I went with a small group of 6 and we all had a great time - the food was tasty, fresh and really authentic. The service was attentive and helpful.

Far fresher ingredients than your regular Indian restaurant.23/08/2012 00:00:00Fantastic once again.I'm a veggi, my partner a committed carnivore. We always have a great time at Ganapati. High lights are the sinful but delicious paratha, home made raita, seasonal menu, Indian wines and beers.16/08/2012 00:00:00Had another superb night atHad another superb night at Ganapati with excellent service and great food. There were two large parties taking place around us but it only added to the atmosphere which was buzzing with lively chat and good humour. The staff as always were knowledgeable and attentive, if you still haven't been, you don't know good curry!19/07/2012 00:00:00Fantastic as always.Ganapati never disapoints; great ambience, friendly & efficient staff, seasonal menu, delicious & authentic southern Indian food. If you're after a 'traditional' british curry with lots of creamy, heavy sauces this is not the place for you. If you are looking for authentic, fragrant, southern indian then you will be in heaven. I'm vegetarian, my partner is a committed meatie and we both came away very happy. I'm already looking forward to next months visit. If you are looking for your16/06/2012 00:00:00
