Galvin Bistrot de LuxeExcellent classic frenchWe felt like we could have been in Paris. It was lashing down cold rain outside so walking into a buzzy warm restaurant off the not so nice Baker Street was lovely. Service was as you would expect - efficient and brusque! I had the crab to start with which was disappointing. Too many chives and overlooked pasta. The steak tartare and pâté are brilliant. My spring lamb in a broth with spring vegetables was absolutely delicious - lamb seared on outside and pink in the middle. The lemon sole is very good, as was the little chicken! My cheese board was great and the chocolate valrhona pudding with honeycomb is worth going just for that. Will become a regular for us.11/05/2013 00:00:00I've been to this restaurantI've been to this restaurant many times and it never let's you down. As consistently good a French bistrot as there is to be found in London. The Sunday menu is excellent. The steak tartare I had had great flavours and the tarte tatin was so moreish I wanted another. Recommended!05/05/2013 00:00:00Another great lunch!I have eaten at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe many times before and it never lets you down.
Great food, service and atmosphere.02/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent Sunday lunchGreat atmosphere with live jazz and a nice buzz. Excellent service and food was fantastic.21/04/2013 00:00:00Solid PerformanceGalvin Bistro was dependable as ever for a recent business lunch. The other Galvin restaurants are more spectacular location-wise but the original bistro is always reliable Signature dish of crab lasagne was up to its usual high standard. This was followed by a good broad bean risotto with parmesan which brought all the spring flavours of the early broad beans to the dish. For the standard of the food and service, bill was, in my view, extremely reasonable16/04/2013 00:00:00Very Pleasant LunchI met some work colleagues here for lunch. The restaurant was bustling and the service and food excellent. I am vegetarian and was worried there may not be enough options. Yes the vegetarian options are limited, however what is on the menu is extremely tasty and the waiters were very accommodating to my needs. I was pleasantly surprised by the bill £30 for 3 courses including wine, I would definitely return.11/04/2013 00:00:00Reliable, high quality eatingBeen many times. Food always good, service unobtrusive and effective. Like it!08/04/2013 00:00:00UnflappableWent for anniversary dinner. Lone diner at next table kept breaking wind. You can imagine! Staff were great. Moved us to table at other end of restaurant. Had a fab time after that!01/04/2013 00:00:00Booked the Easter Sunday specialBooked the Easter Sunday special which was a 3 course meal and an aperitif maison for just £29.50 - together with a 1/2 bottle of good wine between 3 people total bill inc. tips was just £40. Good value I think. The food is very simple french dishes - I had the escargot in a lovely garlic butter sauce - which went well with the freshly baked bread. Sea Bass main - light but delicate and a lovely caramelised tarte tatin which was delicious. Not quite fine dining - but very enjoyable.31/03/2013 00:00:00lunch dateHad a look online and saw that the restaurant had amazing reviews and being we don't come to London often we normally rely on such reviews and we were not disappointed. Great location, great decor, wonderful staff, very attentive and food was well presented and well prepared. Was not disappointed with any aspect of our visit and the glas of champagne to start was a lovely touch.30/03/2013 00:00:00Sunday lunch extraordinaireCouldn't think of a better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. A luxurious treat that was worth every penny. Could become addictive!29/03/2013 00:00:00lives up to its namewent to the restaurant without knowing the group of restaurants, so i didn't go with much expectations except from the excellent reviews. the service, food, and price still exceeded my expectations, from the starter to the dessert, it's the place to be if you're just looking for a lovely evening.
also the best calf liver i've had, done just right - not too difficult to chew, not undercooked and not overcooked. it preserved the taste of the liver.29/03/2013 00:00:00We frequented Galvin BistrotWe frequented Galvin Bistrot de Luxe when it first opened, but it faded from memory when we moved away. By chance we found ourselves nearby and thought 'Why Not?'. The restaurant is as good as it always was. Service is more polished and the meals were outstanding. We opted for the braised lamb with lentils which came with the most delicious jus that was shamelessly wiped off the plate with pieces of sweet, fresh, and conveniently absorbant homemade baguette. The John Dory was beautifully prepared, lightly perfumed with beurre noisette and capers. We hope to find ourselves in the neighbourhood more often. Much more often.28/03/2013 00:00:00My daughter and I were forMy daughter and I were for the first time here and I was sorry not to have done it in the past. One from the set menu and one from the a la carte. Both very good but the set menu is extremely limited. Service was good and prompt.05/03/2013 00:00:00Something SpecialIn at 7:45 and out at 9:30 which is just what we wanted. Definitely recommended!17/02/2013 00:00:00Exceptional dinnerBeautiful restaurant with great service and fantastic food. It's not cheap, but that's understandable given the quality. Best steak I've ever had!!!16/02/2013 00:00:00great value!Great place. Swift to offer a delicious alternative to the set menu for a vegetarian option!15/02/2013 00:00:00Post Theatre DinnerExcellent post-theatre experience. Faultless food and service which met out expectations. Perhaps a choice of three for each course would be an added incentive to return again!13/02/2013 00:00:00Enjoyable set mealTook advantage of the early evening set menu. Arrived early but were we were welcomed warmly and shown to our table. The choice was limited to 2 items per course but we both found something to enjoy. The sommelier responded to my question about trying a new grape variety by pouring a taster glass, a good wine experience.13/02/2013 00:00:00The food was amazing and theThe food was amazing and the service was exceptional. Great value for money, will definitely be going there again!12/02/2013 00:00:00Dinner for twoWe had a lovely dinning experience, we got a little late to take advantage of the 2 course offer more because we were engrossed in catching up. We both ordered fish main courses sea bream and lemon sole, which were cooked to perfection. We followed this with an amazing chocolate dessert, which we both shared - it was excellent. The service was good, and the ambience was intimate and inviting. We both were certainly be returning again and bringing others with us. Can't wait to go back!09/02/2013 00:00:00Galvins is greatI love Galvins bistro, in my view the best of their offerings. I love the crab lasagne and the steak tartare was classic. Great lamb and veal made for a meal that didn't disappoint. Wine a bit pricey but worth the stretch when accompanied by such good food05/02/2013 00:00:00Lovely evening at Galvin Bistrot deExcellent value with Top Table offer. Limited choices for each course but food all delicious. Charming and helpful service which made the evening relaxing and enjoyable. Looking forward to going back.03/02/2013 00:00:00We took 4 friends to GalvinWe took 4 friends to Galvin Bistrot de Luxe on Baker Street for dinner. When I booked the table I asked for a quieter table in the back room but the table given to us was just behind the reception by the door. However we were given some complimentary drinks and the service was courteous and efficient. The food was outstanding as usual although there was a long wait for the desserts and coffee since the restaurant was getting very busy. Will be back!!02/02/2013 00:00:00Deservedly popular local restaurantGavin Bistrot is one of the local restaurant for all those that live and or work in the Marylebone area. Whilst pricing is not excessivly expensive, the top table offer makes it extremely good value. The choice on the menu for this offer is limited but the qualty is great, the atmosphere and staff are friendly and efficient and we really enjoyed eating there. We will return.01/02/2013 00:00:00Lovely food and serviceWe booked an early table as they were so busy. This included an offer for three courses and an aperitif - which is very reasonably priced. Lovely evening!01/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent valueI have been to Galvins already few times. Food is always very good. Only think I need to remember is not to come at 6pm sharp as its too quiet with no music and staff briefing in background.01/02/2013 00:00:00Took my husband for lunchTook my husband for lunch here on a Sunday for his Birthday. We loved it! The food was yummy but might not be for everyone as quite fussy. Really good value on a Sunday as they do the set price menu but looking at the a la carte menu it's a bit pricy. There was a jazz band playing which created a really nice atmosphere and the service was excellent not pretentious like some if these restaurants are. Highly recommend for a Sunday lunch.27/01/2013 00:00:00A great place for a treat - GalvinGalvin Baker Street Bistrot has great French cooking, friendly service, elegance and (relatively) moderate prices. The seafood lasagne and the pork (!) ossobucco were stars of a highly satisfactory evening meal. Super tarte tatin - comme il faut!
Also, having 'pots lyonnais' small and medium-sized carafes of good quality wines added to the enjoyment, finding these days my capacity for a whole or even half-bottle of wine too much, plus normally carafe wines are inferior - not here!26/01/2013 00:00:00Attentive staff, beautiful roomEnjoyed the 3-course deal with top table. Good choices offered on set menu, I had the onion cream soup, pollack with mussels and bit of Brie with walnut loaf. Portions were small, and the soup was a bit too salty. But all finely presented and the waiter kept us stocked up with warm bread. Decent wine list and we had a 475ml carafe of viognier priced at 18 pounds. Decent value and lively with well-heeled pensioners and couples on a special date night. Will definitely go again for a civilized and relaxing meal.25/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent qualityWe had a good quality meal including wine at a reasonable price - superb artichoke veloute and duck. Service good without being over-attentive. Only slight downside is waiters always seem in a hurry, but perhaps not surprising given how busy and popular this is.23/01/2013 16:00:00GoodGreat food and immaculate service. Slightly overpriced, but the Sunday offer (3 course and a cocktail for £29) is definitely worth it.19/01/2013 16:00:00Lovely lunchWe had 3 course Sunday lunch with a complimentary glass of Apéritif Maison.Lasagne of Dorset crab, beurre Nantais(£3 supplement) for starter-nice but I didn't think it was that special. My friend&I had Roast sirloin of beef, Yorkshire pudding, root vegetables, horseradish cream & red wine jus but unfortunately they were both cold. They warmed them up and we enjoyed it in the end.Dessert was Apple tarte Tatin&crème fraiche-strangely the pastry tasted of onion. We thought it was like a savoury tart!I didn't complain as I thought we made enough fuss over the mains, but I should have!It sounds like we didn't but actually we had a nice time as the waiters were so lovely!19/01/2013 16:00:00
