Marylebone restaurant Galvin Bistrot de Luxe was the first in the hugely successful Galvin stable, and the first to win the Galvin brothers their reputation of outdoing the French at classic bistro cooking.   • "Went to Galvin Bistrot de Luxe for the first time for Sunday lunch. We were a group of three with a child. We chose the restaurant's menu which had a wider choice than the TT menu. My friend liked the oyster starter and the salmon starter was good. We had roast beef for main course. It was a very big portion and the beef was good quality. The waitresses were quite busy. Service was fair but not perfect. Overall, the food was brilliant and the service was also acceptable."

My liver was well presented and tasty, whilst my friends Spanish pork was presented medium rare which I did not realise pork could be cooked that way and was equally delicious. Great food, would go again."

We preferred the restaurant for a lunch booking as it was quieter and had a younger crowd. Steak tartare was outstanding; sweet with fillet steak and sour with crunch cornichons."

Food was impeccable throughout the night however the service started to deteriorate as the staff whimpered to the large 'Business' party that arrived shortly after us. Wasn't offered any coffee after our final course and the bill was presented to us without even clearing the final courses dishes."

So i was a little disappointed to discover that the message of how important it is for men to look and smell good, that is shouted to us from bill board and tv screen across the world, seems to be ignored by certain members of the food service industry, because this can put a restaurant's reputation at risk. There is always a time and place for male musk, but hovering over the dinner table is not one of them, the only smells me and my party want to savour are the food and wine; but when this competes with something else, the quintessential dining experience of one of the greatest eating establishments in London is lost, next time I hope will be better!"

Although unannounced as a birthday dinner the staff recognised the occasion and provided a candle with the desert- thoughtful and helpful staff. Oysters were declared good by the granddaughters and I enjoyed my correctly served Escargot and was then inveigled to try the most exotic dish - Caramalised Calves Brain with excellent Mousseline potatoes .- not an everyday dish but worth the try. The Tarte Tatin was excellent as a desert."

However none of us fancied the Table D' Hote and chose from the A La Carte. The choice I had of steak was to my liking! The servings were not large but yet we were pleasantly full! I think a wider choice of vegetables would have been good. I would like to return in the future possibly to another branch."
