Diner Reviews
  • "tucked away in pinner high street amongst various chain eateries this little restaurant serves excellent food in a quiet unhurried fashion the food is of very high quality and the service polite and attentive a. very relaxed and enjoyable experience . Sunday lunch is very good value and a simple but quality menu is perfectly presented."

  • "We went back to Friend's for my mother's 87th birthday and sat downstairs which is very cosy (but not on top of the other diners). Food was very good and service efficient and very friendly. Some good value wine. Nice touch of a 'Happy Birthday' plate at the end (but thankfully no singing!). We haven't been here for a while, but will go back soon based on this experience."

  • "The food is excellent, I can't believe we only just found this having lived locally for years. Lovely staff, great food. We will be back."

  • "First time at Friends. Highly recommended for an oasis of peace and calm in an otherwise busy week."

  • "Made a lunch booking through toptable and got 25% off the food. There is a wide choice on their 3-course set lunch. All the food was inventive and excellent - the orange bread and butter pudding was heavenly!"

  • "we had a great afternoon, and totally over ran on our table but they did not chase us out. very attentive with lovely food."

  • "I have wanted to eat in this restaurant for ages but because of the higher than average prices and 12.5% service charge I had been saving it for a special occasion. When I noticed there was an offer on toptable I booked immediately. The staff were very friendly but overly attentive, whisking things off our table before they were finished and interrupting our conversations to ask if everything was ok. The food was well presented but lacked the flavour of other restaurants I have been to in the same price band. I was surprised at the tackiness of the plastic battery operated tea lights on the table. We had a nice evening but the experience did not warrant the prices being charged."

  • "It may be that due to the rave reviews we had slightly higher expectations but my meal particularly was mediocre at best. The starter was basically a mean little cherry tomato salad with a grand title. My main course of fish was overcooked, soggy skinned and luke warm, the chicory side was actually cold. An interesting sounding rhubarb combo dessert was just pink and tasteless. My husbands meal was also barely warm despite the plates being hot and the vegetable sides were over salted to the point of being inedible. They managed to bring the wrong wine but did change when we queried this. Service was pleasant. As it was supposed to be a treat for my birthday it was all a bit of an anticlimax."

  • "We could not have chosen a better venue for a family meal on my wifes birthday than Friends. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the service friendly and discreet, the food exceptional. The set menu options fully satisfied my 'pescatarian' wife and 2 teenage children, whereas, I was totally spoilt for choice. Each dish deserves comment and praise, but I will restrict myself to 3; my daughter described the confit lamb shoulder as having more flavour than anything she had ever tasted; the black cherry and chocolate tart was an indulgence of pefectly married ingredients, and my son's introduction to snails proved to be a thoroughly inspired selection. Thanks for a perfect evening.I can't wait for my birthday, I know where I'll be going!"

  • "Having been a critic for the London Food and Drink Guide I am not easily impressed. I was by Friends. The menu is balanced and thoughtful with delicious dishes based on the highest quality ingredients. Well done Friends. I will return!"

  • "Tucked away on the old high street this is the stand out gem amongst the glut of chain restaurants in the village. Very good food backed up by exceptional service from knowledgable staff."

  • "My friends and I had not been to Friends restaurant for a couple of years and on this occasion found it better than ever. We were all made to feel very welcome, thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent. We will definitely not leave it so long before we go back again."

  • "We dine here as often as we can and this time brought 4 friends. Everyone cemented on the outstanding food and service."

  • "We were eating from the British Pie Week menu (which was excellent value): both the whitebait and the crispy chicken wings were great (I speak from personal experience - we swapped bits, according to family tradition); the steak and kidney pie was excellent; and the limoncello pancakes were delicious. I felt a touch overfed afterwards, but that's my fault . . ."

  • "Been there a couple times now and have never been disappointed."

  • "This was the third time we had eaten here but the first Sunday lunch, and as always it was lovely - good food with lovely flavours, good atmosphere and good service. My mother got a candle in her desert as it was her 91st birthday - a lovely touch and much appreciated."
    dined on 02/03/2014
  • "Have been to this restaurant many times and never disappointed. Good lunch as well as dinner venue. New fixed price lunch menu is excellent value - same quality of ingredients and preparation as regular menu."

  • "Very nice welcome when we arrived. Nice to have a round table. Very tasty amuse Bouch. Food very attractively presented. Lovely sweet biscuits with coffees"

  • "Our first visit was a great success. A warm, friendly welcome. A varied choice of menus - lunch, meals of the week and a la carte. Meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was excellent. Will most certainly return."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "We recently ate at friends restaurant and really enjoyed our meal. We had the 3 course set lunch plus coffee and petit fours. The courses weren't massive but I prefer this as it means you can enjoy the food and have enough space for 3 courses! We felt it was good value considering the quality of the food and service. We had 3 young children and the restaurant was very accommodating. The mackerel starter and orange bread and butter pudding were exceptionally good. No hestitation in recommending it."
    dined on 18/02/2014
  • "And that pretty well says it all: Friends has been around for 21 years, and I've been eating there for just under twenty of them (they'd been open for a while before I got round to trying them), and they've always been excellent. They still are."
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "True, we chose from the cheaper evening menu but were disappointed that we couldn't say that it was better than we eat at home. Also, our table was next to a closed cupboard which was emitting a cool draft. We couldn't fault the service, however, and we found that one starter that didn't impress was not on the bill at the end. Whilst we wouldn't recommend a visit I suspect we may be in the minority as most of the other diners seemed to be happy with their food (curiously, one other diner DID complain about the same starter as we did - the haggis). Read other reviews before being swayed by ours."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "staff were very nice and welcoming, attentive. On our evening there were only another 2 couples so atmosphere was fairly subdued. Food was tasty but we found the portions very small, despite having 3 courses we did not feel full so therefore I do not think the restaurant offers good value for money"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "My second visit here. Fabulous to have fine dining on my door step. Staff are warm & friendly & cannot do enough for you. Welcoming, helpful but not overly intrusive. Great menu choice especially for me with umpteen food intolerances! They even bake special gluten free bread which is yum! Lovely venue for a special occasion, or simply a good evening out. Desserts also awesome! Not a drinker so cant comment on wine however they had a good range of spirits! Will definitely be back here again!"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "A lovely warm and cosy restaurant with top quality food. We were meeting good friends and this was halfway for all of us. Very happy with our choice although parking can be a little difficult they have an arrangement with the local pub, so ring and find out details first. Warm homemade rolls were delicious, good variety on the menu, food was very tasty and even amuse bouche and petit fours given as perfect little extras. The set menu has a decent choice and is very good value. The atmosphere and attentiveness of the staff was superb. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Outstanding on all counts. Absolutely love this restaurant. Every mouthful a piece of heaven! Staff always happy to accommodate any special requests. Can recommend their gorgeous organic red wine. Thank you."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We booked the Sunday Lunch, which was excellent value £29.50 for 3 courses. We have eaten here before for dinner, but the good-value Sunday Lunch was excellent too. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a few additional requests which were satisfied. The crispy chicken wing starter was delightful. I rarely eat roast beef, but this dish was quite excellent, with a very good horseradish sauce, lovely gravy, crisp Yorkshire Pudding. Thank you for the wine recommendation for the Tannu Organic was superb and good value."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Good cooking on a busy night at Friends restaurant. The chicken with truffle sauce was delicious. One small issue - the service on arrival needs to buck up. On arrival,, one of the waiting staff was literally three feet from me and completeley ignored me. No smile, no "good evening", no "I'll be with you in a minute". Nothing. Very bad first impresion. Table service from the three young members of the team was very good."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Had a great meal with friend. We both chose from fix prix menu, haggis cake and duck egg starter was delicious and so was the lamb main. Great wine list too. Phil is a fantastic waiter/host who goes the extra mile. He even delivered our umbrella to a nearby bar when we left it at the restaurant. Highly recommend."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "My wife and I attended Friends restaurant on the 9th of February @ 12:45, on time, to be greeted by the manager, shown to our table with a view of Pinner High St, very quaint I must agree. We enjoyed our starters main course a fantastic Pino followed by the Orange bread & butter pudding, yum. We've promised to introduce a couple of long standing friends to our new Friends! Try it you'll love it,"
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "We don't wait for birthdays to go to Friends Restaurant, we go whenever we feel like a gorgeous meal in great, cosy surroundings. The food never falters in it's high standards, and the service is very friendly. We like the set menus as it gives us a good idea of what the bill will be. An excellent restaurant, and long may it thrive."

  • "Had a lovely meal in a very nice romantic atmosphere. Food and service were excellent. Would highly recommend. Thank you to all for a great evening."

  • "It's getting difficult to find new ways of saying this: I've been going to Friends pretty regularly for 20 years, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. This was no exception to the rule."
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "It was our first time at Friends, and it turned out to be a great choice for a family celebration. Good food, pleasant service and good value. Could become a favourite local."
    dined on 23/01/2014
  • "...was a let down. The main course in particularly was not made well (gnocchi). The gnocchi was overcooked and the sauce was extremely rich (goats cheese + double cream). It was also clumpy as it had been mixed in with too many vegetables (leeks etc). Starters were better but weren't particularly special (in terms of flavour, presentation etc.) This was a disappointment especially as we paid over £40 per person and only ordered a half bottle of wine. Service was good however (v helful and friendly) as was the ambience which is very much atune to Pinner Village. I feel that there is so much potential here but the food lets it down."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "Wonderful discovery in Pinner. Suburban Tudor building houses excellent restaurant - well chosen menu with fish and vegetarian options included. Imaginative starters (gourmet haggis in whisky sauce anyone?). Party of four all had different but lovely meals (meat, veggie, fish). Cheeses limited selection (all British). Wine list good ( liked the bin ends) though all clarets £30 and over. Recommend for small party/ intimate dining. Prompt friendly service. Delicious appetizer. Allow £50 per ahead."
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "There were four of us for dinner on a Friday evening. Despite being full, the whole experience was very relaxed. The service was attentive and friendly, without being overwhelming. The food, as ever, was outstanding - particularly the Haggis starter. Very highly recommended."

  • "I was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate my birthday and noticed Friends on Toptable. Althought the menu seemed quite pricey, there was an offer for 25% off food, so decided to go for it. However, I also looked at the website and found that they offer a special dinner menu on Tuesday -Friday evenings, consisting of 3 courses for £20. The food was delicious and extremely good value for money. The atmosphere was perfect with attentive service without being intrusive. I would highly recommend it."
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "I had booked a table for 9, all the diners had a really good experience overall, however two people who ordered the steak felt that it was over cooked. We will be booking the restaurant for future events!"
