Diner Reviews
  • "I have used the Fountain Restaurant for lunch on several occasions. Last weeks visit April 2014, was not so good. The service was poor and the meal was disappointing. I know they can do better but I will take my guests somewhere else for a while."

  • "We had made a note of our dietary restrictions on booking and the staff were aware and had made special arrangements for us on the day without making a fuss. The food was excellent and the staff were delightful and attentive. It was a special occasion and made so by the experience too."

  • "Booked this for my sisters birthday...we arrived on time, as they had made appoint of saying if we was late we would lose the table...so was disappointed to be then told it wasn't ready yet and could we come back.. We wasn't offered a drink to compensate...eventually we did sit down and the waiter made up for our poor start he was very friendly and helpful without being intrusive..the food was excellent and we relaxed and enjoyed our meal"

  • "We visited Fortnum and Mason's Fountain Restaurant for the first time recently to celebrate my Husband's birthday. The surroundings were beautiful, the service was personal but not intrusive, very professional but welcoming. We enjoyed a beautiful meal in very relaxing surroundings. The quality of the food and service were both outstanding. We would definitely visit again and leave room for the Knickerbocker Glory, this time."

  • "We went for a lunch there on a Friday in a group of 6. We thought the food was good and it's a lovely restaurant. The service is good. I'd definitely go there to eat on a special occastion again. The only thing that I'd not eat there is dessert, which I thought the price does not match the quality. But the starters and the main courses were tasty."

  • "Food is always very good from a limited but adequate menu. Service is always good and prompt with no big delays between courses. This means that you can easily fit it in with other things that day. The ambience has always been good with nice buzzy and unstuffy atmosphere. Occasionally tourists appear in strange outdoor garb (e.g. ruck sack,t-shirt, calf length dockers and sandals) oblivious to the otherwise informal, common sense of most customer's attire. It's a good wine list. Overall it's rather pricey with 12.5% service charge meaning a lunch for 2 with a bottle of wine and 3 courses can be about £120. There are however much cheaper brunch style options available. Nowhere else like it. Long may it continue to it's present standard."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Lovely atmosphere, shame the service was rather poor. Waiting staff seemed to cover different tables - as such there was little consistency in service, which led to long delays between courses."

  • "Beautiful venue, wonderful meal, great service, would highly recommend it"

  • "F & M Fountain Restaurant is a favourite of mine when meeting girlfriends for lunch or tea. The service is excellent and the menu varied. I recommend it."

  • "A visit to the Royal Academy, followed by lunch at Fortnum's is always an enjoyable experience. We succumbed to the fish and chips - delicious! The atmosphere is buzzing and we spotted the actress, Julia Mckenzie, also having a fun time."

  • "The quiet and lovely setting and the excellent British food make this my first choice for lunch with female friends. We had dinner there for the fist time and it was quiet, gentile, and comfortable. If anything to improve about the menu it would be smaller meat portions and more veg. We had the set menu and could have done with 2 instead of 3 courses, but the puddings are irresistible."

  • "I enjoyed taking my mum here and the service was outstanding. A huge thank you to Alison the manager who made our visit very special."

  • "Although not designed for children, the staff mean we keep coming back with our 2.5 year old and even brought our friends with their 2.5 year old. The food is good. The children are amused and we enjoyed ourselves."

  • "We had brunch at F&M in the Fountain Restaurant, the atmosphere was relaxed and the staff very friendly. The food was very nice, a little pricey (£22 for a full English with juice) but you pay for the quality and also the experience. Was lovely for a nice treat."

  • "I always enjoy going to Fountains as it is very civilised, really good food and excellent service. It is walking distance to theatre land and also a great place to crash out in after shopping. I enjoyed my meal, it was the set menu which was good value. Unfortunately, my friend did not enjoy the terrine, feeling is should have had more flavour and had expected some vegetables with his fish course but did enjoy the desert and pudding wine. I would certainly recommend Fountains and will be going again, hopefully soon."
    dined on 04/03/2014
  • "I found the staff attentive but discreet. The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed and very english in beautiful surroundings. My mother's 70th Birthday luncheon was perfect."

  • "I'm sure there is a lot more to Fortnum & Mason than most people imagine. It's a beautiful store with much to interest and admire. Our lunch was part of our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The food was superb, as was the service from all the staff we had contact with. The lady maître d' was very good and she arranged a special plate for us to commemorate the occasion, complete with a small box of chocolates and a 50th Wedding Anniversary inscription in chocolate."

  • "Just a treat to be there.....in the centre of this busy "shop" it is a haven of calm. Delicious soup followed by perfect scallops on black pudding. Perfect service, nothing too much trouble...not that we were! Left alone to natter for as long as we like which is a change for London where you are told you can have the table for......harrumph!"

  • "i usually choose the fountain redstaurant when meeting my sons and wives and gvrandchild or friends- it is easy to get to pleasant surroundings tempting shopping for l treats and a good tasty menu - not inexpensive but ok for speacial occasions - service last time was not as good as usual."

  • "My co-lunch eater and I were seated at the appointed hour and attended to promptly and politely throughout our meal. The menu was not exhaustive, but there were several options that tempted us and something to cater for all tastes. The food was well prepared and served without fuss. The kedgeree was apparently very good. I chose lobster from the 'specials' menu, asking for it to be served as a main course. It was perfectly cooked, soft and succulent, served with salad leaves and mayonnaise, perfect as a starter, but insufficient as a main. The addition of French fries would have helped. I finished with a gorgeous lavender flavoured creme brûlée which was sheer ambrosia. Well prepared, simple fare."

  • "We went to celebrate my wife's birthday and it proved to be an amazing experience. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our drinks were served in a timely fashion and the choice of food was excellent. The food itself was well presented and cooked exactly as requested. Throughout the meal the staff were attentive but not intrusive. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to my friends and we will be dinning there again."

  • "A lovely surprise to find there was live music on Sunday lunchtime. We were meeting friends we hadn't seen for a long time and had a great table in the corner at the far side of the room so the music didn't interfere with our catching up.It was a little bit of "old England" !!"

  • "My two children ages 10 and 6 thought it was a top restaurant and loved the jugs of fresh lemonade. They loved my dish more - duck and creamy mash potato! Will definitely visit again"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "We came back for lunch as we had had a very enjoyable experience before. However we were very disappointed in the food this time. Staff and ambiance were excellent. However the food was poor. The cod was overcooked. The duck was rare, not medium rare as we had been told and it was not served with a potato and celeriac mash as advertised, but with potatoes, either boulangere or dauphinois but whichever they did not go with the duck and gravy. No we didn't mention it at the time that would have spoiled the atmosphere of the lunch. So - sorry to say our experience was not as we had expected."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "It was very noisy and service was very slow, but it was Saturday and I appreciate that they were more busy than usual"

  • "In my booking email I asked for a 'nice' table to celebrate my mother's birthday lunch. We had a lovely table, delicious food, wonderful service and a surprise little gift bos with a candle in astrawberry and beautifully scrioted in chocolate, the words Happy Birthday and a delkightful rendition of Happy Birthday by a very charming waiter. It was such a lovely experience. It is a really special restaurant, and I have been to lunch there many times."
