Diner Reviews
  • "Although I am not vegetarian I was with a vegetarian friend and am happy to eat vegetarian food. It was absolutely, delicious, accompanied by good value wines. The service was excellent but discrete. Great evening. "

  • "vegetarian and vegan heaven! Plenty of gluten free options too."

  • "Great menu as ever so difficult to decide what to have, but our choices were delicious. We had the ricotta, basil and dill dumplings and goats cheese and beetroot salad for starters, both were fresh and tasty. For main course we had goats cheese soufflé and colcannon potato cake, both seriously yummy (my husband and i always try each other's dishes!). A lovely fresh organic wine made the meal complete. Service was excellent - they brought an incorrect starter (probably due to my husband's mumbling) but changed it straight away to the correct one. A lovely evening altogether."

  • "Not being vegetarians, Food for Friends was an eye opener! We were intrigued by all the courses on the menu and enjoyed the ones that we chose. Each was presented skilfully and had a range of imaginative ingredients. There were so many interesting choices that we couldn't resist trying each others food. It was a busy lunchtime which made for a lively atmosphere, but the service was first class. We are now looking forward to returning and trying more from the menu. "

  • "Have been here a few times over the years. If you think vegetarian is dull...think again. Imaginative menu. Excellent execution of food, tasty and really nice relaxed friendly ambiance. I am not vegetarian but nevertheless found a great choice of dishes and did not "miss" the meat! I asked for a window seat when booking and got one. My girlfriends birthday was noted with a surprise rendition of "Happy Birthday" and a lighted candle displayed in her pudding. A lovely place to entertain, meet up or gaze into each others eyes!"

  • "Great food, great service. Go there if you're in Brighton!"

  • "This was my first meal in a vegetarian restaurant and it did not disappoint!! The setting is just lovely, it's not too crowded and each table is well spaced and the place is not noisy or too busy. The staff were very helpful and attentive and the service overall was excellent, fast and efficient. The food was fantastic, simply delicious! The portion sizes were perfect, allowing you to comfortably to enjoy 3 courses if you wish (and you really should!). I also really enjoyed the non alcoholic cocktails! I can't recommend this highly enough - anyone who enjoys top quality food should visit Food for Friends."

  • ""Food for Friends" creates heaven on a plate for any palate. What makes them extra special is that they put a Cheshire cat smile on my my vegetarian + gluten-intolerant friend's face - This has never ever happened in a restaurant, so full marks!"

  • "We booked food for friends as one friend is a veggie and she normally just gets one option on most restaurant menus! Very stylish restaurant which we didn't expext given the name and vegetarian menu. We had a lovely booth for 6, delicious cocktails and good range of delicious veggie options, also lots of non gluten options for celiacs."

  • "We went to Brighton to eat veggie food - where we live there is nothing. So se drove the 2 and a bit hours and had lunch here. It was fabulous! So lovely to have so many choices and as a coeliac there were also plenty to choose from. Great friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and spectacular food full of flavour. Will definitely be revisiting soon. Thank you Food for Friends."

  • "The food was good, especially the curry. My boyfriend wasn't so keen on the deconstructed ravioli. The service was slow but they very friendly. My other friend is a vegan and he loved it...he said it made a change from the usual option of risotto."

  • "We were asked if we would like some water, sparkling or still - we said still please, expecting a jug as we have had before, but were brought a bottle, which was over £3. When asked why we got a bottle & the table next to us got a jug, we were told that they had asked for tap water. It would of been nice to of had that same option as we didn't know we had to ask for it as hadn't had to in the past. The food was all very nice though."

  • "The place is cozy and romantic. The staff is friendly. The food is simply amazing! both the presentation and the taste. I loved the combination of flavours of the tofu pockets! and the coconut aranccini were superb!!"

  • "I booked a table for 1.30pm for four people three weeks in advance. As it was Mother's Day, I was not surprised that the table was a little delayed as the restaurant was very busy, but we were stood waiting by the door for nearly 25 minutes with nowhere to sit. The head waiter was apologetic but some compensation (e.g. a free drink each) would have made us much happier. However the food was delicious, as it always is here. The only problem was choosing what to eat! Our food was near-perfect, my only comments being that the mushroom main courses were oversalted and were very oily. I particularly liked the fig, ginger and cheese salad starter and the potato and turnip gratin main accompaniment. We'll definitely be returning."

  • "Fantastic tasting veggie options here! Recommend to all those vegetarians and vegans as you'd be hard pressed to find a better offering anywhere else! Do be prepared to pay for the quality you receive (it's worth it!)"

  • "always book on line.....i phoned up to book for mothers, i was told there were no table available...i tried online got a table straightway. we went, after a little wait we ere seated. it 30 mins before we offered a drink! they were busy , but there were plenty of staff, and there were empty tables. the food was good. i'm not a veggie, but this time there were several things i could eat....which was good. recommend the truffle cooked chips. its good, my wife likes to go there, but i always feel its trying too hard, and a little overpriced. i wouldn't have tipped, given the choice. so overall ok, but i'm not a fan..."

  • "If you a veggie and your bored with the standard options of risotto or basic pasta then you should try here. Its got so many different options you will struggle to know what to have!"
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "I have been going to this restaurant for a number of years and have never been disappointed. The food is lovely. We had a sharing platter to start, followed by an open beetroot ravioli with blue cheese and romanesco cauliflower, with a super chocolate torte for dessert. My fiancé had a cauliflower curry for his main course and coconut arancini for dessert. My one gripe was - as I had found before - identifying what the food we had ordered actually contained! This was particularly relevant to the sharing platter. I caught the busy waitress' attention and simply asked her for a look at the menu. Instead, she tried to describe it herself. It wasn't easy to understand her accent & I would have preferred that she'd fulfilled my request!"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Unfortunately I found the food too hot/spicy, when food is like that one cannot appreciate the underlying flavours. Too many people think that vegetarian food means hot and spicy, it does not. It actually spoils the flavours The main room is surrounded by large single glazed panels of glass which is cold and one also feels over exposed as if eating on the street. The room itself was cold. But when we asked they did try to heat up the restaurant."

  • "delicious veggie food, we felt well looked after. Not cheap! but we enjoyed ourselves."

  • "My partner and I (both in our early 60's) have become increasingly disappointed with the service, choice from the menu and the general ambience. Although we had booked our Saturday night dinner in advance, we were given what we thought the worst place in the dining room - near the door and at the top of some stairs (my partner had no view - just a wall). We had to wait a good 10 to 15 minutes before we were served even just a drink. Nothing on the mains appealed to me so I had 2 starters - not disastrous but nothing special (one dish was overloaded with green leaves). Bread (a few white slices) is extra. We didn't have desserts and our bill came to well over £60 which we didn't think was good value."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I thought the food and wine were disappointing, and found the waitress rather brusque. I know it was a busy Saturday night, but had she been more friendly we may well have stayed and ordered some additional courses. The only plus side was our table with a view right out onto the street, so we were able to witness the early evening shenanigans as Brighton geared up for another night of hedonism."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Good atmosphere. Yummy food. Definitely recommend the mushrooms with feta for a main."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our family lunch. We shared the vegan seasonal set menu and our daughter enjoyed the kids menu. Top marks for taste, atmosphere and friendly service. Will return!"
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "Service was a little chaotic, particuarly on arrival, and we spent 15 mins sitting by the window waiting for our table. once seated, service was unhurried and helpful. Could, as ever, do with a few more vegan options, but food was nicely prepared and varied. Not sure about micro beetroot leaves on the pudding though.."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "With food of this quality dining out becomes a superb experience to be cherished with options for all budgets and all diners"

  • "We visited this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday lunchtime, having heard really good reviews about it from friends. I must say, we were not disappointed. The food was inventive and of an excellent standard; it was brilliant to have a choice which was strictly vegetarian or vegan. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived and we were early (by 14 minutes) which the the maî·tre d' made a point of pointing out. We waited in the bar area but felt in the way of the waiting staff. However, service at the table was very good - we didn't have to wait long for the food. If we were to visit again - which I am sure we will - we will not arrive early. The restaurant is light and airy and definitely had a buzz about it. Highly recommended!"
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Overall the food and atmosphere at FFF was very good and we would certainly return. A few more vegan options would be good although we were very pleased with our choices. The vegan chocolate truffle tort was simply excellent."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Myself and my (non-veggie) partner really enjoyed our second visit to this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. The starters were very generous portions (although neither of us liked the smoked ricotta in his salad) and the colcannon potato cake had us stuffed! We still managed to squeeze in dessert. Delicious. I definitely recommend booking in advance as it's pretty popular!"
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "My first visit and I wasn't impressed. Food was average and I'm not convinced it was freshly cooked, there was a good choice though. Service was poor - our plates were literally plonked in front of us. There was no 'is there anything else I can get you' or other customer care. Overall I was disappointed, it won't be first choice of places to eat in future."

  • "We had a trip over from Oxford specifically to try out Brighton's famous vegetarian restaurants. All four of us thought that Food for Friends came out top of the pile for quality of food, value for money and ambience. Hands down winner!"
    dined on 26/02/2014
  • "Neither of us is vegetarian but this is meat/fish free cooking of the highest order. The flavours and textures of the food are simply divine, from the bread to the filled tofu pockets with pickled ginger we loved it all. Such a shame that we live so far from Brighton but we always eat here when in town. Great service too, the only shame being that we didn't have room to try a pudding!"
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "I took my girlfriend to Food For Friends for her birthday and as with previous visits we had a really nice meal. The only blemish on the experience was having to wait 20 minutes to be seated despite making a reservation 2 weeks in advance, I got the impression that there were not enough staff to deal with the volume of diners. The food was delicious and very good value for money, the goats cheese soufle was fantastic, I think this restaurant is much better value than Terre a Terre and with a more intimate ambience. The staff are very friendly but the service was a little slow with it being peak time on a Saturday night. It is great place to go for a vegetarian meal in Brighton, I'm a meat eater and the food still ticks all the boxes for me."

  • "I have been back to Food For Friends many times now, it never disappoints. The food is colourful very tasty and at the same time it's healthy! The ambience is warm and friendly and the service has always been excellent. The menu has recently changed, and what I chose to eat was beautifully presented and delicious..Great place!"

  • "Interesting vegitarian and vegan choices but I didn't fnd my meal to be as tasty as I had hoped it would be"

  • "Try the halloumi burger. Perhaps one of the most unhealthy things I've ever eaten, but also one of the most delicious"
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Not having been to an all vegetarian restaurant before, I was impressed by the varied and imaginative menu. The food was delicious, the service efficient if a little unfriendly. Nice ambience and excellent location."

  • "My boyfriend took me here for a belated Valentines Dinner. I am veggie, however he is not and he loved it just as much!! Very unique menu with a variety of flavours and textures,.. In fact we had food left over as the portions sizes were huge!! Two courses each and a few drinks each for £65, very good value for money :) We will be back! The staff were fantastic too!"
