The Clerkenwell Dining Room

London, EC1M
PW 09/05/08

We had an enjoyable evening at the Clerkenwell and the food was excellent. The restaurant gave good value for money (excellent with our top tabel discount) with the exception of the not-properly-chilled house rose at £7 for a small glass. Although some people might like the over-attentive service, we didn't. Nice people - just too fussy. And next time I want to be able to pour my own wine.

Have been to this restuarant before and was a little disappointed with the service this time, a little too slow. However food was good although prices have gone up.

Millbank Spice

London, SW1V
BM 09/05/08

Millbank Spice was an ok place to eat if you are on your way someplace else for the evening. My friends and I went here before going out to a club and it did the job... we ate. The service left a lot to be desired and the atmosphere was bleak.

Palm Court Brasserie

London, WC2E
CE 09/05/08

The Palm Court Brassiere is a fantastic mid-range restaurant. The ambiance is cheerful and buzzy but you can hold a decent conversation over the hubbub. This was my 2nd visit I was so impressed with my 1st that I went back with another friend who thoroughly enjoyed it. We opted for a la carte and shared a starter of cheese in filo with cranberry chutney then rack Lamb of lamb which was delicious. With wine the bill weighed in at £75 which we gladly paid before rolling off into the night.

Graffiti

Cambridge, CB3

Graffitti was the perfect venue for a Bank Holiday lunch in the sunshine. We were able to sip out perfectly chilled wine outside overlooking the gardens. The set lunch menu was quite limited (just 3 choices for each course), but everything we tried was delicious. The Glazed Orange Tart for dessert deserves a special mention.

Boulevard Brasserie

London, WC2E
JR 09/05/08

We had a leisurely afternoon to spend out of the office and decided to begin it at the Boulevard Brasserie. We did the 3 courses and a Bellini offer for £15 and after an extra drink and a side order plus cover charge paid £25 each which we were quite pleased with. Both the service and food were quite average but all in all we had a nice lunch and were not rushed in and out.

Orso Restaurant

London, WC2E
MZ 09/05/08

Orso serves good tasty Italian food made with fresh ingredients. The goats cheese ravioli was delicious, the pear and hazlenut tart disappointing - a bit dry. The ambience is quiet, a mix of tourists and business diners at 7.30pm. However the location for a pre or post theatre dinner is excellent and for that we will return as we have for several years.

Benares

London, W1J
Chris Payne 09/05/08

Great service - really first class. Not stuffy and made you feel welcome and very helpful. Prawn dishes are amazing prawns are HUGE. Definitely a great one off or if you are rich regular place to visit. Modern Indian style cuisine. Cost £160 but also had a £60 bottle of fine wine so £100 excluding drinks. They do a set 3 courser for £28 which looked great value. Highly recommended

Le Cercle

Delicious meal, and although we understood concept of "tasting", portions were far too small. Had expected a buzzy, lively atmosphere but initially we were the only 2 diners and when we left there were only 6 others

Uncle Jack's Steakhouse - Midtown

New York, NY, 10019
Paul McDonagh 09/05/08

Great ambience, fantastic steaks and good Bar Man made this a good place overall, however found the 'Captain' (Head Waiter more interested in what he likes to eat and became quite pushy about the more expensives aspects of ther menu and in fact made it quite clear he was not impressed with our order. I would advise people to go and eat here, but to make sure they are strong and don't get bullied into eating something they don't want to!

The Italian Kitchen provided great service and fabulous first course squid. My only disappointment was that there wasn't more of a selection of seafood for the main course. All said and done we will definitely return.

Simpson's in the Strand

London, WC2R
anon 09/05/08

Simpson's in The Strand did not disappoint - the food as always was impeccable and the service was efficient but discreet. The house champagne is good and my meal of rock oysters and dover sole was delicious. Only problem was the lack of loo roll in one toilet. Minor - but could have caused chaos. If you like traditional English fare, real carpets and wood panelling you'll love Simpson's.

Silk

London, W1F
anon 09/05/08

Would recommend Silk for a quiet intimate meal. The lamb chops, mixed starter and dessert were well presented, and v tasty. Scallops were cooked to perfection. Mixed dessert was v generous.Drinks were a little pricey, over a fiver for a bottle of water.
