Diner Reviews
  • "For some time The Farm has been our favourite venue for eating and drinking with friends. On this occasion the staff were friendly, the atmosphere was great and the menu, as always tempting. However, we were really disappointed with the food. The presentation was pretty but impractical. We don't want to eat from a long thin board with chips in a basket; my friend did not want her fish on a slate slab. Just a nice round plate will do. How can a wooden board be hygienic, even?? It was also the wrong shape to make dining easy. The burgers we had were not up to their usual standard. The meat and the bread were really tough, and the chip portions were tiny. My friend was unable to eat her gravadlax, as the salmon tasted odd and looked quite grey."

  • "Excellent choices and excellent portion sizes, BUT a lack of children's menu was frustrating - the 'small' was a great size only as my children have HUGE appetites (phew!) I do feel it was a tad pricey."

  • "Phoned to try to book a table and was told they were fully booked. Went on line via toptable and were able to book. When we arrived the pub/restaurant didn't seem very busy so we asked about the booking problem we'd had and were told that it was because they only had a small kitchen so they try to keep the bookings managable. The food, service etc was good."

  • "I booked a table for my family and parents as I was away mothers day weekend. The majority of the party enjoyed their food. However, I was disappointed in the soup as a starter, the flavour was a little lacking and the piece of bread was extremely dry. I had the Macaroni cheese for main course, It was very bland, not particularly cheesy and if i'm honest definitely not worth £9.95 for a pasta dish with not much cheese. I had the rice pudding with caramel and apple, which was luke warm and the rice verging on crunchy. As I mentioned earlier, the rest of my party enjoyed their food, especially the roast, So i was not going to spoil their enjoyment by complaining. We do go to the "Farm' regularly and don't mind paying the 'extra'."

  • "Our first and possibly last visit to Farm. Having been impressed by the sister restaurant at The Mark Cross we anticipated the same quality and choice at this venue but were extremely disappointed. In this age when eating meat should not be the only option Farm was perceived by us as very backward looking in its available options. The days of one main course choice for a vegetarian are long gone in many establishments which aim to please a wide cross section of diners."

  • "Usually happy with menu and service but on this occasion none of us had our first choice options available which spoilt the evening."

  • "I have been to the farm 3 times now and have to say the food has always been great, maybe a little bit expensive but worth every penny. We went for Sunday lunch this time and being fussy with my roasts I was hesitant, but have to say it was the best roast I have ever had out at a restaurant! So well done and thank you for a lovely meal."

  • "I used the Top Table online service to book a table for 8 only to find that when some of my guests arrived before me they were told that we had no booking. When I arrived and showed a member of staff my email confirming my reservation did they then seat us. Service was slow and after 25 mins one of us had to ask waitress to take our order. I have eaten here on many occasions and never had a problem and have always been satisfied. At then end of our meal I went to ask why our reservation hadn't been made using the online system and wasn't that impressed with the response. Let's just hope this is a one off."

  • "Good ambiance and our table was waiting for us, despite having had to change booking time. Excellent choice on menu. Pity the pie arrived as meat with an oblong of pastry rather than a real pie. Gilthead bream was excellent and wonderful choice of desserts. Rhubarb and vanilla pie with ice cream really good."

  • "Our 3rd visit to the farm and as on each previous visits tha same warm welcome and good food was on hand The location makes it a very easy choice out of the main town area with ample on site parking and still only a few minutes drive to the main theaters . I'm sure we will be back"

  • "We loved the food and it wa beautifully presented. We shared a bottle of wine which was exceptional quality. It was a birthday meal and the staff were more than willing to present the cake, light the candles, sing happy birthday etc. Definitely good value for the high quality food and wine but bar drinks seem a little over priced."

  • "We were greeted by a rather terse waitress who assumed we had not booked and told us it was full. We had booked and were taken to a table with an almighty draft which meant we could not take coats and hats off. We had to ask for another table. My friend's "main course" of tomato and taleggio tart could barely be described as starter size, and my roast pork was rather tasteless and a meagre portion. The "roast" potatoes did not deserve that title and were unpleasant. The veg was ok but again tasteless. We spoke to the waitress (who was also the deputy manager) about our experience to which she replied "noone else has complained". Big mistake! We stood our ground and she offered 10% discount, or a free pudding. Overall very disappointing."

  • "This place is a stumble from home, when family are over from Canada, we always book, we have done the spectrum here, births, engagements & wakes, as well as a quick lunch. We love it, everyone is friendly, service is second to none, nothing is EVER too much trouble, even with our dietary requirements. Can't reccomend it highly enough, the only time we were disappointed was when they had sold out of roast turkey!! Carry on guys, you have it spot on!!"

  • "Excellent service given it was primetime Sunday lunch and food quality did not waver. My wife had her steak cooked perfectly and both my other guest and I enjoyed the extra big yorkshire pudding and nicely cooked beef and lamb. Encourages one to give a sizeable tip as service is excluded from the bill. Very happy."

  • "We have recently enjoyed Sunday lunch both as a couple and on the second occasion with our family. The restaurant is very well laid out in an old converted Farmhouse. It has lots of character and interest and a wide choice of seating arrangements. The staff are excellent in every way. There is a good choice of food, it is good quality and served promptly. There is also live music on Sunday afternoon but do not worry it is low key and does not intrude. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and look forward to our return visits"

The menu is continually changing and food is freshly prepared and cooked on the premises. The staff and friendly and accomodating and I would highly recommend a visit."

  • "We booked a table at the Farm @ Friday Street for a family get together and the restaurant didn't disappoint. The menu was extensive and the portions are huge. The wine menu was great without being too expensive. The service that we received all night was spot on, always there if you needed anything but not in your face. We will be back when in Eastbourne."

  • "Lovely relaxed atmosphere as soon as we walked in. We were welcomed by a friendly member of staff and taken straight to our table. The service was good as well as the choice of menu. We had a delicious family lunch, age range from 12 - 86. My 86 year old dad particularly enjoyed the Beer Battered Cod and Chips! We will definitely go there again!"

  • "We booked for a family meal on Boxing Day, having not eaten here before. We chose Farm@Friday Street more for its location which was close to our family. When we arrived we were able to order drinks at the bar and put them on a tab for our booking which wS handy as we arrived before the rest our group. The bar staff also advised the restaurant staff when we had all arrived. The choice of food was very good for Boxing Day - most of us had expected a set menu or limited choice. The service was very good and the food excellent. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone."

  • "We like to meet here for a catch up and gossip every few weeks. There is such a friendly welcome, the staff are attentive but not overbearing. There is a good choice of dishes, beautifully presented, hot and delicious. We like the cosy nooks and crannies, and because we're busy chatting, we really appreciate there being no intrusive piped music!"

  • "Dinner with three friends on Saturday was a lovely experience. There were excellent choices on the menu and the setting is wonderfully cosy with a great ambiance. I had the mixed game casserole in filo pasty from the specials board, followed by the sticky toffee pudding - both were excellent and tasted deliciously home made. The wine choice is good with fabulous descriptions but quite pricy. My only moan would be that the main course was served incredibly quickly after ordering. But we were never rushed, and were left in peace to enjoy our meals and a good gossip before tackling the pudding menu."
