Duke's Brew & QueGreat BBQ food in East LondonI venture here following recommendations for friends and it was quite good! We had the Baby back ribs, burger and chicken and all diners were satisfied with their meal.
Word of warning though, the marinade on the baby back ribs were on the spicier side (which was great for me) but may be too strong for others.
Definitely worth the trek to Haggerston.14/05/2013 00:00:00Amazing timeI had the famous ribs and the dukes burger and they lived up to the hype. All round great time and definitely worth a visit!09/05/2013 00:00:00Had a really great time atHad a really great time at Duke's, amazing ribs & one of the best ciders I have ever tasted! The service was great too & staff were very friendly. Can't wait to go back soon!08/05/2013 00:00:00Really easy to get to. TheReally easy to get to. The service was brilliant, and the food was up to a high standard. Each member of staff were very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was busy but very relaxing and soothing at the same time. Next time I visit London, I will definitely be booking another table!!!.05/05/2013 00:00:00Duke's Brew and QueRibs are great, sliders too. The service was a bit weird though. One in our group had an allergy and the waiter would not check with the kitchen if some of the items on their menu was OK, he just told her not to order it because it might have the allergen.05/05/2013 00:00:00SplendidDuke's Brew and Que, never seems to disappoint. The service was friendly and quick, food delicious and the ambience fun and enjoyable. A great place to eat, drink and be merry.03/05/2013 00:00:00There will be meat.Really great place off the Kingsland Road. The food is stunning and the beer is amazing. Great looking place too and with a lovely vibe. They do get busy, and in all honesty we felt a bit rushed to return our table - in short the service was a bit abrupt. Otherwise it was A-mazing.01/05/2013 00:00:00What's not to love?Came here for the first time with a bunch of friends last week. Definitely won't be the last visit!
The food truly is outstanding. The place was buzzing, so the ambience was great too. Throw in some friendly, casual and attentive service, and it's an all 'round winner. And lastly, the value for the whole experience is not going to break the bank. So yeah, what's not to love about Duke's?26/04/2013 00:00:00Never disappointsDuke's Brew & Que has been great since it has been opened and I am fortunate to call it my local. It is good value for the amount of food you receive. We ordered the BBQ platter to share with some fries and Mac&Cheese as sides. I love the seasoning on the fries so much that I want to find out how to make it! It was a good amount of meat and sides for a late dinner with a friend. Nice buzzy atmosphere although I probably would get a table away from the kitchen as it is an open kitchen and you do come out smelling of ribs.18/04/2013 00:00:00RibsService was quick, and ambiance was great... if you are into the drinking, being noisy and eating meat thing...
When the ribs came out it wasn't exactly what I was expecting....
You don't get served a rack of ribs... but individually cut ribs. The pork ribs were quite good but would have been better if it was served with more BBQ sauce - a 'large' portion was four ribs.
I didn't like the Beef ribs... was massive and wasn't particularly tender... was covered in the blackened rub from the slow cooking which I felt made it tough and hard to get off the bone.
Pulled pork was excellent... maybe my favorite.
So stick with the pork....13/04/2013 00:00:00don't forget the beer....it's not all about food you know....the range of in house and imported beers is exceptional and some fantastic matches can be found like the Rasputin Imperial Stout @ £6 1/2 pint [10.2%abv] with the 14" Beef Rib in Mesquite baste. For longer sessions stick to the Neckoil Bitter - so easy to remain anaesthetised.01/04/2013 00:00:00Great buzzy atmosphereWe went here for my husband's birthday and even his 18 year old son (who goes to lots of trendy bars ) thought it was top - the service was friendly and tho we had a bit of a wait it wasnt a problem as we were people watching. Of course the ribs are amazing - and better than America the ribs are large but you dont get an obscene amount of food with it - you can order as sides which is great - i had 2 ribs and shared some fries and mac n cheese and that was great - not greedy portions we had in California and were dreading - my only issue was that family next to us thought it was okay to bring a toddler and a really tiny baby out in the evening- not appropriate for a busy place which has a pub feel - very selfish - But not Dukes' fault!30/03/2013 00:00:00Real BBQThe servings were massive and the taste was amazing! Loved the theme to the place.23/03/2013 00:00:00Duke's does it again...Dukes never disappoints. Had a really good (meaty) meal and this time managed a dessert and could still walk at the end. There is a new item which is a platter, so you can now try the beef ribs and the pork ribs without having to order separately. Staff are still nice and friendly too.17/03/2013 00:00:00Amazing meaty dinner!Great ribs and sides, some of the best chips and best ribs we have had in London. We booked a big table 2 weeks in advance to ensure we could get in & it was worth the wait!16/03/2013 00:00:00Awesome!Actually love it here. Amazing feel to the place, great food, friendly service!
Book in advance because it fills up quick!13/03/2013 00:00:00Best ribs in London!Booked a table for 7.30pm for myself and my girlfriend for her birthday dinner. We're both big foodies and love great tasting meat! We had the BBQ platter and the Dukes burger with a side of Mac & Cheese. We both loved the food, meat was amazing smoked and very succulent. The ciders here are great also and worth a mention.
Would highly recommend to any couple or group who are looking for something a bit different.
Great rustic feel and the staff were friendly, helpful and happy to offer their advice on what's good.12/03/2013 00:00:00best barbecue in LondonI'm a bit of a barbecue afficionado, I smoke meat at home often and have pretty high standards when it comes to quality. The bbq they serve up at Dukes' is top quality, the smoke ring in my beef rib went all the way through to the bone, amazing flavour, the pulled pork was moist and well flavoured (pulled pork is served in many restaurants these days, I've not had any that's better than I make at home, until now). Then there's the beer, it's home to the Beavertown brewery, they've been making some top drawer uk craft beer, it really is great stuff. Service was prompt, when we ordered more drinks they were brought over immediately, the waiting staff are very nice and approachable. One of the best meals I've had out in years.08/03/2013 00:00:00Best ribs in London'Best ribs in London' is a hard title to give just one restaurant, with the multitude of burger/rib joints that have opened up around town over the last couple of years, but Duke's own-smoked beef rib is definitely it for me. The pork ribs are great too, in a slightly sweeter barbeque sauce, but the beef is where it's at.
Add to that the great selection of ales & lagers (some of which is also own-brewed - can't get more local than that) and you're in for a night of meaty gastronomic pleasure.
Also, it was nice that even in a busy early evening shift, the staff were happy & enthusiastic about talking us through the beer & food options to help us decide the best course for us - great to see people enjoying the excellent work they do :)07/03/2013 00:00:00Great food, great beers fromGreat food, great beers from the attached brewery, and good service. And they let you book a table, so no long queues!04/03/2013 00:00:00Amazing Beef RibsI grew up in Texas and I think this is one of the best Beef ribs I've ever had. Smoked to perfection, and thick cut of meat attached to rib. Beautiful. Had the pork rib as well which wasn't nearly as good in my opinion. Great craft beers as well.26/02/2013 00:00:00Yummy timesGood tasting food. Friendly and good service from the staff.18/02/2013 00:00:00Food delicious (smoked sirloinFood delicious (smoked sirloin on the bone excellent), beers great (casks obviously properly stored etc.) and atmosphere relaxed and fun.
Service top notch - they even phoned me 2 mins after I left to tell me I'd left my scarf which was a nice touch and obvs required someone to find it, check the booking details and then phone me - all during a busy service.
Very impressed.15/02/2013 00:00:00Deep South goodness in the East EndWow! Duke's never fails to impress. The service was friendly, personable, quick and knowledgable. Every diner was happy thoroughly enjoying their meal and the buzz inside was excellent. The food was delicious and more-ish. I'd recommend everything on the menu, honesty, although the ribs are amazing! I was absolutely stuffed by the end of my meal, but it's such a great dining experience.
Duke's is highly recommended and always seems to improve every time I go. If you love, good ol' deep south burgers, ribs and pulled pork definitely venture down to this gem, but booking in advance is advised.14/02/2013 00:00:00valentines dayMy girlfriend and I enjoyed a lovely romantic dinner for valentines day at the Duke's Brew & Que. My complements to the chief, Accurate and perfect cooking witch results in wonderfull food I recommend to all couples looking for a romantic night out.14/02/2013 00:00:00Best ribs and beer in LondonSo good, ribs and beer and service are excellent, pretty much my favourite place in eat in London06/02/2013 00:00:00Best Burger in LondonDukes has the best burger in London and the ambiance and friendly staff make it a great overall experience01/02/2013 00:00:00BBQ heavenHave wanted to go to Duke's for ages and I wasn't disappointed. The venue is cozy, staff welcoming/helpful and the smell of the gorgeous BBQ food has your mouthwatering straight away. The ribs and burger special were beautifully cooked and and tasty. I also had a great cocktail and hubby loved the craft beers on offer. This is probably not a first date venue (well unless you make the ribs and burger residue that will be on your chin part of the dating fun) but we thought it was all great and can't wait to return! As an added bonus they took our Toptable Dining cheque towards the bill so this added to the list of positives..30/01/2013 16:00:00Yum yum, in my tum.We have lived down the road from Dukes for about 2 years & only just got round to going after listening to all the hype. We weren't disappointed. The staff were friendly, the food was great and the ale was fab. We only had an hour and half at the table, which didn’t affect us much as it just meant we got our food quickly. I had 3 pork ribs and fries, whilst my boyfriend had the pulled pork sliders and fries, I couldn’t eat all my ribs (managed one and a half) so he polished them off.
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting good, quick food, but if you want to make it into a whole evening the time limit of the table might prove an issue. Unless you are happy drinking at the bar after the meal….in which case have Proper Job ale.25/01/2013 16:00:00MEATHad the most amazing beef (brontosauras) ribs. Have to be seen and tasted to be believed!20/01/2013 16:00:00YumWe'd been looking forward to checking Duke's out for a while as we live in the area. It was exactly what we were looking for. The ribs were juicy and tender, the service was excellent (we managed to leave a brand new iPhone 5 on the table but the staff had called us within 5 minutes of us leaving so we could get it back that night).
Overall, it was a nice place to be as well. Not to loud (or quiet) and a nice seeming clientele.
Highly recommend it.19/01/2013 16:00:00Please see my blog for reviewhttp://totalales.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/dukes-brew-que.html16/01/2013 16:00:00Good food in a lively atmosphereGood food, good drink. Was a little disappointed that the menu options and prices had changed since my previous visit but the website did not accurately reflect this; my friends were up for one thing and they got another. Still, food was good and filling. Will visit again.16/01/2013 16:00:00Great local restaurantHad a lovely time at Duke's Brew & Que, will definitely go back. Great choice of real ales at the bar, friendly staff and great food. Portion sizes are large, so we over ordered massively. Not a problem though - staff more than happy to make up a doggy bag for us, so lunch the next day sorted too!16/01/2013 16:00:00Great foodGreat food and choice of home beers.
Went as a big group for my boyfriends birthday. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
I never normally do reviews but this place is worth recommending.12/01/2013 16:00:00DUKES = EPICEPIC - this place is always EPIC.
The food is superb, and the beer they Brew on site is equally awesome!
(be careful though as it can knock your socks off)
My best dining experience in the last few years, and my mates agree.
Do it.11/01/2013 16:00:00I'm from the South and theirI'm from the South and their fried pickles and okra are a treat. My only complaint is that it would be good for them to offer a plate of sides, which is pretty common in southern BBQ places, and because their sides are yummy but it gets a little pricey if you choose those over a main. But hey, this is London and not South Carolina, so I'll let it go.09/01/2013 16:00:00Well worth a visit!A group of us dined at Brews and Que early on a Sunday evening. It was busy and had a good vibe.Nice welcome and good service throughout. We had pork ribs and burgers, all good quality and well presented.Good selection of beers brewed on site,we tried quite a few and all were decent.A really happening place, will return for sure, enjoyed our experience.29/12/2012 16:00:00YummyDelicious food, great beers and very friendly staff. Will definitely return.10/12/2012 16:00:00We loved this place!Dined on a Sunday evening in December of 2012. We made reservations and it was a good thing because the place was packed. The Staff wsa friendly and prompt. The beer selection was very good, an 8.5 out of 10 (which is about as high as it gets from a beer snob like me). The food was terrific. Enjoyed ribs(pork), fried okra and pickles, and mac and cheese. The cheese cake dessert was great also. One of the co-owners(BBQ guy from Cali) stopped by our table to chat and ask us how we liked everything.. a very nice touch. Overall- it was an awesome dinner and we highly recommend.08/12/2012 16:00:00Dukes brew & que have the best ribsI've actually been back here three times since my first booking as it's so good. Best bbq in london, nothing more to be said.24/11/2012 16:00:00Loved itThis place was amazing staff absolutely gorgeous welcoming kind prompt, food was absolutely amazing American style ribs, burgers to die for! DO NOT go past the mac and cheese.04/11/2012 16:00:00Love this place! Whether it'sLove this place! Whether it's a table for two or a slap up dinner with a load of mates you're after this place is wicked. Great venue and the food is consistently excellent. The pulled pork sliders are amazing !!
The bar area is cool to hang out after for a few bevvies. The staff are always lovely, would highly recommend.13/10/2012 00:00:00Try the slidersTo our devastation, when we went to Dukes in Haggerston a little later than usual, they'd run out of pork ribs, which for us are basically the reason for going. Since the menu is very limited, pork ribs are a relatively cheap ingredient and Dukes has a very tight reservation system, you'd have thought they'd be able to predict sales better than to run out of what must be their major seller before 9pm. That's the only reason for marking down on service - the waitress was lovely. On the upside, the lack of ribs led me to try the sliders, which were terrific, and my husband declared his burger one of the best he'd ever had.04/10/2012 16:00:00Somewhere to go back to...I decided to book a table in advance, not really believing that I would need to on a Tues eve. However, by the time we left, Duke's was full to the rafters! I ordered the beef ribs, and they arrived looking shiny, sticky and daunting in their proportions (in fact, I asked for a doggie bag to take away the one that beat me). I was however, expecting them to be a little more tender. I watched other diners eating the pork ribs, which seemed to fall of the bone as I had expected the beef ribs to. The range of brews available was very impressive. The staff were attentive, helpful and very friendly - which added hugely to the whole experience! I will be back, and I will be bringing more friends - but next time I will try the pork.04/09/2012 00:00:00Great pork ribsWe love Dukes on Downham Road, but mostly because not only are the pork ribs really delicious, but they are really delicious pork ribs near where we live. Don't quite know how it's become such a hot ticket that people come in cabs and booking is basically essential - they ARE amazing pork ribs (and the sliders are excellent too) and I know American BBQ is all the rage at the moment, but it's not as if there's nowhere else in London to get it. So if you live nearby, go immediately: it's ace. If you don't, go away. How am I supposed to eat there every day if everyone else wants to come too, huh?11/07/2012 16:00:00Meat galoreIf you love ribs and don't mind getting your hands a bit dirty then this is the place for you. They serve up their own-brewed beer and own-smoked meat in large volumes, service can be a bit slow sometimes but the waiting staff are very friendly so just sit back, relax and stuff yourself silly when the food arrives!06/07/2012 00:00:00Great Informal ResturantWe travelled out to the Brew & Que especially and they did not disappoint. The vibe is casual and friendly. We both ordered the ribs. Sides of chips and Mac & Cheese. We had Blue Moon beer. My dining partner enjoyed everything and I liked it all as well except I thought my ribs were quite a bit more spicy then I would have expected. It was explained that they are hand spiced and some get a bit more than others. I was given an apology and a free beer. I thought the management's response to what was a minor complaint (perhaps I am a little over sensitive to heavy spice) was excellent.
Little pricey but I'd be happy to recommend the place for casual dining.05/07/2012 16:00:00Best beef ribs! This was my fourth trip to dukes and I thought I would try the burger as I had tried everything else! It was good but no where near as good as the ribs, i will be going back to what dukes does best on my next visit - ribs!07/06/2012 00:00:00Great for meat loversBeen to Dukes three times now in as many months, just can't get enough of their beef ribs and with a cool interior and a wide selection of London brewed beers it pushes all the right buttons for me!15/05/2012 00:00:00
