Diner Reviews
  • "This was our third visit to Duck and Waffle and as on each of the previous visits, our reserved table was not ready. It seems to be a policy to have you hang out in the bar for 15 minutes and buy drinks while you wait for your table. That negative apart, this is a fun place for dinner, with an unbeatable view of London. The menu is eclectic but appealing, and the wine list extensive, although quite pricey. It is certainly worth having the duck and waffle main course. The atmosphere is vibrant and it's a great place to take out of town visitors."

  • "We had (my mom and i) a great evening. The food "ducl&wafle" was really good. The sommelier helps us to choose our wine. And the torrejas for desert was very good as well."

  • "It was a lovely eating experience. The duck was great. The small plates were a little pricey and on the small side. The views were breathtaking and the service was good. "

  • "My fiancée and I ate in D&W recently and all in all was disappointed. Food was disappoint neither worthy of the setting or the price. We had the roast octopus which was overly chewy and over powered by herbs, a meatball and gnocchi special which was swimming in oil and the gnocchi was just little balls of soggy mash potato. The opinion bread with capers and anchovies was border line uneatable salty, braised cheeks with polenta was the nicest of the bunch, but hardly ground breaking, and the one we most looked forward to, signature dish, duck and waffle was just pointless, duck was tasty, about equivalent to my local Chinese, waffle was dry and tasteless, and the 'sauce' that went with was overly sweet and added nothing. Egg was nice though "

  • "...for this restaurant. Was difficult to make the booking in the first place as I regularly experience troubles with their whole phone and booking system and availabiltiy is always limited. However, when we went for breakfast the restaurant was quite empty. Food was nice but not outstanding. Service was rather slow and unattentive which was disappointing on a quiet morning that we experienced and considering the price level. Overall, we went for the splendid view over an awakenig London."

  • "I went to duck and waffle for a business meeting for breakfast. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food-most opted for the "duck and waffle" and I went for the Colombian eggs. The portions were very good and more importantly the food tasted great. Service was lovely-everyone there is really pleasant. The views are amazing, especially on a sunny day. The lift is an experience though-it's very fast and makes you feel rather queasy! "

  • "Went for breakfast and wasn't disappointed with the food. Best blood orange mimosa I've had (and the food was certainly great too!). One tiny problem was the layout of the window tables which were a tiny bit too close together. A fellow diner behind kept pushing her chair back towards me but she did have awful manners so perhaps it was just bad luck sitting next to her. Apart from that a top experience and would happily recommend to anyone."

  • "Great place with great food, great ambiance, great cocktails!! Would definitely recommend it and would most certainly go again!"

  • "The lift ride up to the restaurant is an experience in itself, great views across the city. We came for breakfast on a Friday morning - I was expecting it to be full of suits having breakfast meetings but there was a nice balance of tourists and regulars so we didn't feel too out of place! We got a table by the floor to ceiling windows overlooking (or looking down on) the Gherkin. The breakfast was delicious and nicely presented, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere perfect. We will definitely be coming back and can't recommend it enough."

  • "The food at Duck and Waffle is the best I've experienced in a long time. Original menu choices, all very tasty and different. Service is also of a very high quality."

  • "Booked quite a long time in advance for a Saturday night and requested a window seat when booking which we got. The restaurant is quite small, the views are amazing and the food is delicious. We had the rosemary and garlic bread followed by the duck and waffle. I'm quite a fussy eater but having been before I knew it was amazing. Drinks are around £13 which is quite standard for that type of place but a little expensive nonetheless. I've been before and would definately go back again. I've also been to just the bar before (on the sushi samba floor) which was horrendous - mainly because we waited at the bar for 40 minutes to get a round in, the bar man was extremely rude and they charge 12.5% service! So I'd say go to the restaurant only."

  • "I think Duck and Waffle is a very good place to go. I booked the lunch appointment 3 weeks prior. Enjoyed the food and the view very much. Would visit again!"

  • "Great food, service and views. It was my friends birthday and the waiter recommended some great wine and put a little birthday pudding together for her and even sang happy birthday. Was a great night."

  • "We visited for a birthday breakfast while staying in the City for a few days! We really enjoyed the food-fresh British ingredients perfectly executed ! The staff were very efficient and friendly. The place has a good balance between trendy and relaxed. The view is fantastic and you feel like you've found a little bit of NY in London! It's a must !"

  • "Although we had to wait 5 minutes for our table the lady offered us a table for two with a spectacular view of London. We were WOWED by the place. Glamorous and modern decor, full of wealthy young people and posh businessmen. We felt like we were in Dubai with the super rich. Food however was quite disappointing. We had he ox cheek with polenta, doughnut with pork filling, aubergine with some sort of yoghurt. Flavours were not quite there an the doughnut just tasted weird. However wine was good and the cocktails list looked impressive. It's a great place to get together with a group of friends or colleagues with fantastic views and drinks. Food would be better if it was just nibbles rather than mains."

  • "My second time at the Duck and Waffle and I took someone for their birthday. The different views across London both in the bar and restaurant are incredible and definitely worth a visit. The food came out far too quickly and not really in any order (everything came out at once rather than starting with starters...) so you could quite easily be in and out in the space of an hour, which is a shame if you want to take your time. Food is nice, but for £10 a small plate I expected it to be a little bit more 'wow'. Cocktails are lovely. All in all a good experience but I feel you spend the money on the view, not the food!"

  • "Duck and Waffle lived up to expectations - I took my Dad for his birthday and it was an ideal location for a special treat. Though the weather was slightly temperamental during our dinner, we still got amazing views over London and the food matched the fantastic sights - when the chef decided he had overdone our steak, he sent us a complimentary salad to tide us over while he cooked another one. The service was faultless and the sommelier made lovely recommendations that paired with our food really well."

  • "Good food, good service, but not sure what's the fuss is all about and why you have to book so much in advance. Having said that, want to give the restaurant another try and hopefully next time I will not be sat next to the fresh seafood stand....."

  • "My guests was impressed with the signature dish, the beef carpaccio, the steak and the view from the restaurant..that they wanted to go back for Dinner..will be going again soon and have recommended it to friends already..."

  • "I took my partner for a birthday breakfast and it was just very special. Not the cheapest, but when you consider that you often have to pay just to see such a view it suddenly seems like quite the bargain. I highly reccommend it!"

  • "They have an amazing 40th floor view. We were there for breakfast and you could see the whole of London. Service was friendly and competent, great food -- the duck eggs en cocotte are always a good choice."

  • "This is our second visit and it didn't disappoint. We only came for the duck & waffle dish which is amazing! With the maple syrup on the side & a fried egg you don't need anything else. We also tried the sea bass which was lovely but the duck is highly recommended! They change the starters options which keeps it refreshing and the bread options are great. They come out warm which is nice. The service is impeccable. They look after even the small thing i.e. refilling your glasses when empty etc, the small things sometimes count more than the bigger things in Service. 100% on their Service with each Waiter professional and providing their knowledge when needed. They have a wine connoisseur to guide you through the options. Highly recommend!"

  • "Having had to book a couple of months in advance for a weekend breakfast slot the place was a bit of a let down. Everything was great right up until getting out of the lift. Entrance via corridors through the toilet block, then in to an area with nobody to greet you. Service was poor and didn't really live up to the view or food. I've had better breakfast experiences for much less. Go for the view and the food - but I doubt you'll go back for a second visit,"
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "Good food, great views, great service but a little on the pricier side for what you get. I would go again though! Confit duck and waffle actually works!"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "A busy Saturday evening celebrating a friend's birthday, with huge amounts of energy and therefore noise. Not too intrusive though and made for a great atmosphere, not perhaps the best time for a romantic dinner-a-deux. The plate sharing/tapas style menu works brilliantly as you are able to try many different flavours and see and taste many of the kitchen's skills. Highlights included the coal charred aubergine with nan bread, the seared cod and the signature Duck and Waffle dish. Service attentive with many, many staff. One slight annoyance was having a 12.5% service charge added automatically when buying drinks from the bar."

  • "A couple of girlfriends and I visited the restaurant this weekend for breakfast. The views were even better than I'd expected, and the dining area is quite intimate and not as 'pack em in' as I'd expected. The service was great, the waiters very attentive but not overly so. The big let down for me was the food. We ordered the full english, which had some great elements - stand outs were the hash brown and black pudding - but there was nothing exceptional about the other items, toast was on the cold side and my poached eggs were over done. I've had breakfast at Aqua Shard too and the food there was far better. I'd go back to D&W, maybe for a different meal and save sky high breakfast for the Shard"

  • "I came here for brunch with some colleagues and the signature dish truly is very good. Drinks were nice too. Unfortunately, service wasn't as smooth as you'd expect from a place like this, and should be improved. Very nice place to take friends visiting London, or just for a fancy brunch with friends/other half at the weekend"

  • "This meal was seriously the best food I've ever had. Period. The home-baked bread with roasted garlic cloves and Rosemary was stunning. We had the pollock meatballs in lobster cream and the octopus to start. Never had such succulent octopus!! We shared the whole roast chicken - which I thought would just be a normal chicken but turned out to be the most moist wonderful chicken ever! Thank you D&W. The only downside was my pumpkin Bellini, which was wonderful but hurt the wallet at an eye watering £14."

  • "The food was very good (except the doughnut which was very stogie) service was also very good but the drinks and wine costs are too high even for London"

  • "A group of us went for a breakfast catch up and found the location, food and service to be great. An interesting twist on regular breakfast options."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "The waffles did not taste hot out of the waffle iron. When we passed by the kitchen we saw a stack of pre made waffles which confirmed this. For their signature dish, duck and waffle should pay more attention to These details. The small plates tasted excellent and were the star of the meal. The best of the deserts was the French toast with ice cream. A few ordered the chocolate brownie sundae and were disappointed by the taste - they thought the brownies tasted like they were store bought. Overall, go for the duck and waffle but insist that your waffle be made on order and the small dishes are excellent. The ambiance of the place is amazing."

  • "Can't beat the view. Good service. Very nice food. The signature dish of duck and waffle is delicious. Recommended for special occasions"

  • "I had a wonderful time at the Duck & Waffle - the views are breathtaking from the moment you enter the lift at the Heron Tower through to sitting down. All the tables are lovely and the staff should be commended for their friendliness, even at 7am in the morning! I had the PBJ with egg & bacon and it was one of the best breakfast's i've ever had. My partner had the ox cheek benedict which was so delicious. At around £15/head with coffee, this is so reasonable for the experience and the service. Highly recommended."
