Duck & WaffleTHE MAMMA MIA OF DINING !Get in the lift, forget your fear, look around - you can feel it's special and that's before you step out and look down on the biggest Gherkin you will ever see!
Walk to your table (preferably by the window overlooking the Thames) and prepare to be received by an attentive waitress and an excellent sommelier - cheap it is not but a great experience it most certainly is! The food is ....different but exciting, the tastes are unusual but somehow they work - who ever heard of a 'duck and waffle?!
Would we go again - Oh yes, the next time we are in London wanting something special!13/05/2013 00:00:00Go for the view, stay for the foodOutstanding place, the view is breathtaking. Not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo. Go to Sushi Samba downstairs for a drink first and then head upstairs. The price of some of the wine will made your eyes bleed but the food is quite reasonable. It's also delcious, the ox cheek doughnut, the mutton slider and the duck and waffle were all highlights for me. I'd avoid the risotto and the bitter salad next time.
The service was good, attentive without being pushy, our waitress was very helpful and advised us on our meal - whether we had got an appropriate quantity for two of us (it's kind of tapas style with dishes to share).
I'd definitely recommend it for a special occassion. Go around dusk and watch the city lights come on.12/05/2013 00:00:00Views of London were stunning!!Views of London were stunning!! The food was delicious especially the duck and waffle (I wasnt too sure about the sound of it but it was tasted amazing). Unfortunatley the waiter got our order wrong and then one of our dishes didnt materialise however the staff were very gratiuous in apologising and even gave us our desserts for free. This restaurant is definately worth a visit!!11/05/2013 00:00:00Outstanding service&FoodThis is my first time dinner with my friends. I love everything about this place especially the service. I would definitely come back again :)09/05/2013 00:00:00AMAZINGWhat can I say, fast becoming and old favourite. The service is always impeccible with great advice, the food is always amazign and as for the view.....09/05/2013 00:00:00Great experience againProbably the best place in London top eat if you want an overall experience. Great food, great atmosphere and a great location.07/05/2013 00:00:00Great, inventive food withGreat, inventive food with a fabulous atmosphere. Loved this place first time we've been & certainly will go back. The views are stunning and he food really complmiented the modern vibe.06/05/2013 00:00:0024 Hour Dining . . . With a View!I ate at the Duck and Waffle three times and everytime the experience was a pleasure. I thoroughly recommend it and will go back if not just for the view, but also for the signature dish; the Duck & Waffle!06/05/2013 00:00:00Stunning views and serviceThe highlights of our visit were indeed the views from the 40th floor but also very friendly and attentive service.
Food is innovatively presented but did not always live up to our expectations in terms of flavour.
I was also touched when i was presented with a happy birthday candle as they took note of my mentioning in the booking of the special event. Recommended!!06/05/2013 00:00:00BrilliantWonderful time at Duck and Waffle. Great views and very good staff. Nice special touches for a birthday too - would definitely recommend for a special occasion.03/05/2013 00:00:00Spectacular views, delicious foodTook my partner to Duck and Waffle for his birthday dinner. After a couple of drinks in the bar we went through to the restaurant and were seated at perhaps the best table in the house, with uninterrupted views across east London and Canary Wharf. Service was unobtrusive and friendly, and the food was fantastic. We had four "small" plates and then chicken "for the table". Probably more than we needed (I think for two people, contrary to what the waiters may suggest, two small plates and one large plate would suffice), but it was a special occasion and we were pushing the boat out, so it was fine. My other half even managed to squeeze in a dessert! Definitely worth a try if you're looking for somewhere with wow factor. Thoroughly recommend.02/05/2013 00:00:00Amazing food with an amazing viewBar serves lovely cocktails - a twist on traditional tastes.
Food was brilliant - everyone must get the pigs ears. They come in a little brown paper bag and are an exquisite version of pork scratchings.
The duck and waffle special is so yummy - similar sweet and savoury flavours you get with American pancakes, and the duck was cooked perfectly.
Only downside was the vegetables.... Don't get them! Overbooked asparagus and cabbage was not up to the same high level as everything else.
Enjoy!01/05/2013 00:00:00good times!!!I've been to the duck and waffle 4 times and loved it every time. the only thing is the food is small, they really are small plates when they say that.
We did have a slight problem with the stake being over cooked but it was dealt with, but not in a timely fashion we did have to wait quite a while just for a stake to be medium rear
we were given glasses of prosco and a free dessert but to be honest we didn't want them and would of preferred a choice
other than that a wow factory place!01/05/2013 00:00:00For breakfast - it is amazing,For breakfast - it is amazing, great food and fantastic value. I went one evening, and still loved the views and ambience, however, thought the food was poor.29/04/2013 00:00:00Tremendous views over LondonTremendous views over London whilst having breakfast!
I would personally recommend the duck egg coccette.
Very attentive staff.
Quite an experience.29/04/2013 00:00:00Perfect Birthday Surprise :)I have been to Duck & Waffle with friends previously and chose it as the perfect restaurant as a surprise for my parents birthdays. They were astounded by the views and staff were happy to wait whilst they took it all in. So nice not to be rushed by staff wanting you in and out. It is an experience...not just a meal! The food, as always, was AMAZING. The wine expert was so helpful in assisting us choose the perfect wine to accompany our meal...and it was spot on! Thoroughly recommend the Pinot Blanc. 10/10 as always for everything from the staff, the food, the wine and the overall experience.29/04/2013 00:00:00Absolutely brilliantAn amazing view with great food to go with it! We had a lovely relaxed and unhurried Sunday breakfast and can't wait to go back28/04/2013 00:00:00Perfect location, the viewPerfect location, the view from there is just amazing. Very friendly and attentive service. Interms of food, we were really pleasantly surprised. The combination read on the menu seamed a bit strange, but enjoyed and amazed when tasted. Loved the signature dish-Duck and waffle, with sweet sauce or Octopus and chorizo! Will be definitely back!28/04/2013 00:00:00Great experienceWe went there for dinner and the view was stunning. We didn't have copious amounts of food but the quality was great.28/04/2013 00:00:00Sunday BrunchFantastic food with a view! The Bloody Marys weren't too bad either!!28/04/2013 00:00:00Great experience and wow the viewVisited Duck & Waffle with my mum from Brazil and we had an amazing time. The service is great and food spectacular. We had the beetroot warm goat cheese salad, that has amazing texture with the warm honey crumble. The bread was also fresh, straight from the oven. And the view...better than describing, one just have to go and see. Totally recommended.27/04/2013 00:00:00A great afternoons dining! We spent 3 hours here on a sat afternoon. We had a window seat looking east so had plenty to keep us occupied. The staff were very down to earth and friendly and made a fuss over our 10 month old soon who was made very welcome. Food was good and the menu is really interesting, we had a bag of pigs ears to start! I thought the steak was a little over priced at £35 but all in all good value considering the view. I'd also read that you could feel rushed but as I say we spent 3 hours here and it felt very relaxed. Would definitely go again.27/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing views, food and cocktails!!Your experience starts with the glass elevator, like a theme park ride, so fast and the view is phenomenal!! Staff were very friendly, showing us to our table whilst asking about our day so far. We were sat right by the floor to ceiling windows and we looked out over the whole of London whilst dining. The staff did take a little while to bring over any sort of menu but I think that's so you can steady yourself after seeing that amazing view. We definitely needed time to fully appreciate it anyway. The cocktails are out of this world and the food - WOW!! I really recommend the deep fried Mars bar - so delicious. All in all a fantastic experience and we will definitely return and have already recommended to friends and family. Like no other!27/04/2013 00:00:00Fantastic diningD&W is seriously wonderful! It enjoys a rare, elevated location with a WOW view of London.
The food is innovative and absolutely delicious (I would have given 5 stars but my friend's avocado was rock hard and the chef must have known this when slicing it). Special mention must be given to the pigs cheeks and bacon-wrapped prunes.
The service is fantastic, particularly by the head waiter, who was very friendly, funny and attentive without going overkill. I would have given 5 stars but I was left underwhemled by the drinks waiter who delivered our four drinks slowly and, even more annoyingly, separately, and we were often dry because he wasn't attentive enough.
Overall, easily a fantastic dining experience that I would highly recommend!27/04/2013 00:00:00It was such a lovely placeIt was such a lovely place and food very lovely and very rich, felt full up until bedtime! i recommend it24/04/2013 00:00:00Brekkie in the skyPerfect for midweek breakfast. Very relaxed and very friendly to our toddler. Not pretentious at all. Wonderful views of course. Breakfast not the cheapest, but good quality and a large serving.24/04/2013 00:00:00FantasticThis is a great experience and highly recommended.23/04/2013 00:00:00A treat for the sensesThe evening we booked was perfect. Clear skies, warm evening and great company, enjoying all that Duck and Waffle had to offer. Views are spectacular, and we were fortunate to have a table near the window. Food was delicious, and the combinations where delightful. Our waitress was lovely, attentive, and just refreshingly efficient. In total a winning formula to a really memorable dining experience. I am already planning my next visit!!23/04/2013 00:00:00Very nice experience
TheVery nice experience
The view is amazing as well as the food.
The waiting staff is very nice and helpful
Go for share plates choosing from 3 or 4 from their menu and 1 meal to share..definitely try the duck and waffle.
Cocktails absolutely great. The only down point is the waiters at the bar probably they took a bit too long to give us the menu.
But Overall absolutely amazing and good value too.22/04/2013 00:00:00Stunning...I booked Duck & Waffle for my boyfriends birthday breakfast, I had heard a lot of great things about it so was desperate to try it out for myself and we were not disappointed. We loved our experience from the moment we stepped inside the glass elevator that whizzed us to the 40th floor of the heron tower, we had fun trying to spot as many sights as we could on the way up. We loved the modern, glitzy bar area with all round stunning views over London before being sat at a perfect table as close to the Gherkin building as possible with amazing views over Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Canary wharf and the Olympic stadium. My boyfriend enjoyed the full English breakfast and I had the columbian eggs, both delicious! We cannot wait to return.22/04/2013 00:00:00Views on LondonA ticket up The Shard is about £25 per person. A meal for two can cost around the same at the Duck & Waffle. The views are almost as good, but you actually get to see The Shard from here. Food is excellent and creative. Service is friendly and attentive. It's a must recommend to anyone living in, or visiting London.20/04/2013 00:00:00Great new place for the area.Great new place for the area. Lovely food and really great staff! It will be our new local!20/04/2013 00:00:00Views wowAmazing experience will defo be returning overall prob the best views in london !15/04/2013 00:00:00Nice viewThe food is nicely cooked to a high standard,
Service is good.
Nice to have the opportunity to roam around the restaurant and take in the fantastic view from the restaurant.15/04/2013 00:00:00Completely charmed by the serviceThe service at duck & waffle was highly commendable, it went beyond the line of hospitality which left me a truly enjoyable dining experience. Every staff I had encountered during my time there, were friendly and extremely meticulous; providing attention and care to our needs, such as patiently recommending and explaining to us the dishes on the menu. Food was delightful and rather exciting, since it was pretty out of the ordinary. We had 1/2 dozen of oysters, pollock meatballs, duck & waffle, spiced pig ears, and rhubarb and custard for dessert. We did however find the duck a tad too dry and the waffles not that freshly made. Pig ears are a must-try, despite thinking of it's origins, it doesnt look any thing like ears, if that helps.14/04/2013 00:00:00The food here was outstanding,The food here was outstanding, and the ambiance was quite nice, with nice views of the city. My only two complaints are the waiter who seemed to enjoy invading personal space and practically invited himself to sit down at my table to tell his life story, and the sound system controlled via iPad which started, stopped, got loud, got quiet, and changed the song after the first 10 seconds for most of my time there. Both were annoying and incredibly distracting and brought down the whole experience.
Other than that, I would definitely return, because the food (late night menu) was fantastic and for the most part, incredibly well priced.10/04/2013 00:00:00as always, an experiencelove this place. the service can be a bit snobbish at times which is unpleasant but the food and the view make up for it. Need to make reservations.08/04/2013 00:00:00Pretty good value for a newPretty good value for a new London restaurant - our waiter was very knowledgable about the menu and suggested items to us, some of which were amazing. Fantastic views topped a very good night!08/04/2013 00:00:00Good option for a specialGood option for a special occasion. Adventurous and tasty menu, open kitchen and nice view on 40/F. if you want a good view, ask for a window seat facing canary wharf side. Would revisit to try the rest of the menu!07/04/2013 00:00:00Great venue and interesting foodWent for brunch on a Sunday. The view and atmosphere were fantastic. The service was also lively and very friendly. The food was interesting but generally didn't quite match though. Duck and waffle would be too rich for one but quite enjoyable shared (so we had it twice!). We read duck can be dry and tough but both our portions were moist with crips skin - nothing to complain there. We didn't enjoy the foie gras breakfast quite as much though. Oxcheek doughnut was a little bit better. We would return though.07/04/2013 00:00:00a good mealthe views are really good. the food menu changes every month. i ate the fois gras and pig ears aling wtih the awesome mars bars as dessert. had a great time. :-))07/04/2013 00:00:00Brilliant BrunchI took my boyfriend to Duck and Waffle as a birthday treat - we had such a great experience. The views were amazing and the food was brilliant. The service was great and we'd love to go again. My only wish was that my portion was slightly bigger - I could've eaten it all again it was that good!06/04/2013 00:00:00high altitude eatingThe Duck and Waffle is perched on top of the highest building in the City of London, affording superb views. The bar offers excellent cocktails etc and the very helpful cocktail meisters make time to discuss their creations. The service in the restaurant is equally solicitous but this is not precious eating. This is a place where people are enjoying themselves with even sophisticates snapping the views. My wife who doesn't eat meat found plenty to graze including brilliant beetroots. Mixed meat and cheese platter was excellent and I had half a dozen superb oysters. Only duff note was (predictably) something like a fried Mars Bar. Avoid; it's not even amusing.06/04/2013 00:00:00kaThe food and view is absolutely amazing. Had the daily special stack waffle, that was brilliant.06/04/2013 00:00:00WOW !!!!!!!!!We had a fabulous night out, were thrilled by the lift, amazed by the view and loved the bling lighting!
The service was excellent and very friendly. Just one slight bone of contention....although the food we had was really nice more vegetarian options would be even better!
Top tip....try to book if you can as it's always good to be treated like a VIP and lead past the queuing masses!05/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing!This place is great! Food is outstanding and the service is very friendly. I cannot wait to go back!04/04/2013 00:00:00AmaZingDuck & Waffle is absolutely incredible. The views are like nothing else, the food is incredible and the service is great too. The staff were kind and gracious and were happy to help. It is expensive, but to eat on the 40th floor of London's 2nd tallest building what do you expect? I will definitely be going again.04/04/2013 00:00:00Spectacular - Table to windowIt wasn't an especially nice day - a bit rainy and overcast. This was rendered completely irrelevant by the spectacular views from every window.
I picked a good time, so we arrived a little before sunset and left during blue hour. I photographed a westward London sprawl with an orange sun streaming through the clouds as it sank below the horizon. The scene lasted a minute or two.
The charming Italian sommelier picked out an especially elegant, yet complex Pinot Noir, which somehow complemented every dish, even though there were some strong and contrasting flavours on offer.
I highly recommend the meat and cheese plate, pollock meatballs, bacon dates and of course the Duck&Waffle.
The service and atmosphere completed the experience.04/04/2013 00:00:00Great AtmosphereI love the duck & waffle. It's a great experience when taking someone new as it has the added extra wow factor of how high up in the sky overlooking London. Been here a few times now and always recommend it straight off hand when any of my friends or colleagues are looking for a dining experience with a twist.04/04/2013 00:00:00A room with a view!On the 40th floor of the Heron Tower, the Duck & Waffle has outstanding views of London, glittering like a sea of diamonds at your feet. Worth requesting a window table (unless you suffer from vertigo, as the windows are floor to ceiling) - this was my second visit, and on both occasions they have been able to accommodate my request. The food is "to share" - and the main courses, apart from the eponymous Duck & Waffle, can be substantial - two of us were only able to make a dent in the ham hock - so we asked for it to go. Service was friendly and efficient - the only potential downside is the thirty-something clientele are clearly enjoying themselves - "lively" or "noisy" depending on your preference - but not somewhere for a quiet meal.03/04/2013 00:00:00
