Cote - IslingtonGood restaurant for a quick lunchI work close by and Cote is the perfect place for my lunch break. i sat by the window so i could see Islington green just steps away. Their Set menu is very good value for money, 2 courses for £9.95!! The manager pointed out that the set menu changes every two weeks so i guess i won't get bored coming here on a regular base. The service is attentive and friendly and the food is good. thanks Cote!10/04/2013 00:00:00Our second meal at Cote IslingtonOur second meal at Cote Islington was almost as excellent as our first one had been a few months ago. There were 3 instead of 4 this time. I had the most delicious mussels, done with a cream sauce, and they were the best I have ever had at a Cote restaurant but my salad nicoise was not up to the usual standard. My companions had calamari which was too much as a starter so one took half home in a doggy bag; their steak and frites main course was average. As you expect from this chain, great value and reliable end pleasant food experience, staff always very efficient, nice location. Pre theatre meal always leaves us with time to spare. It is difficult to get into Cote without a prior booking and apparently remains so. The turn around time for tables is amazingly fast, no doubt due to the careful service which was much appreciated. Probably the most striking feature of this good food is its value for money. Single Malt whiskey aperitifs were large and saw us through the meal togrther with a bottle of water. Starters of soup and slightly over salty crab were big enough to make us skip puddings. This was a spur of the moment booking, as we were just meeting for coffee, and lingered here so long we decided to book a table. Cote still gave us the toptable deal right there and then which was kind. My companion loved her soup and I had the chicken which I have wanted to try for a long time - comforting and delicious! Her main course unfortunately had to be returned as it was inadequately cooked - however they wiped the cost and provided desserts for free. Definitely took out comments seriously and proves how rarely they have problems with their food. After a long Olympic season of overindulgence and expensive tickets, we wanted to keep things under control and still unwind after a long working week. The toptable deal at Cote was just the ticket, we could enjoy superb mussels, duck breast and dark chocolate mousse, washed down with Kir Royale, for around £16! Incredible value, we sat by the open window and watched all of Islington go by, and the sun go down, while enjoying a private conversation yet feeling we were in the thick of it all. Informed smart waiters and waitresses, not too pushy but there when you need them. And our food delicious. For a chain they really seem to have got it right and the Too Table discount makes it very attractive indeed. One word though. When I went to the one in Camden Town I found the food a little less impressive. Not sure if each chef makes a difference. My fillet steak was amazing - and the half price food offer incredible. The crab salad was delicious.
The service is excellent - and it's always a good sign to see the waiters smiling and laughing among themselves. This Angel restaurant is run very very well run.
