A word from Clos Maggiore
Clos Maggiore is an oasis of calm in the heart of Covent Garden. Influenced by the stylish country inns of Provence and Tuscany its unique interiors create a warmth and intimacy enjoyed by both business and private parties. The conservatory has a fully retractable glass roof creating a bright and airy dining space, particularly lovely during the Spring and Summer seasons. It is transformed at night by candles, starlight and a crackling fire during the Winter months. Head Chef Marcellin Marc cooks sublime Provençal inspired cuisine with contemporary panache. Marcellin is committed to using locally sourced seasonal ingredients to create perfectly balanced menus which were awarded three AA-rosettes since 2008. Our extensive cellar at Clos Maggiore includes over 2,000 labels and was extended earlier this year to include an additional 400 wines at a low – mid price range. We are very proud to have been awarded the “Best of Award of Excellence” consistently since 2003 by Wine Spectator. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The service was excellent and food was really great. I got the roast glazed duck and asparagus for starters. We were given complimentary mini desserts as it was our anniversary."

  • "First class, will return next time we are in london"

  • "Again an excellent lunch at Clos Maggiore. It has become our favourite London restaurant. The slow cooked veal and pasta starter was delicious - a great balance of rich creamy sauce, flavoured meat and succulent pasta. The fish main course with fennel and the apple and nut crumble all mouth watering. We will return."

  • "The perfect place for a romantic dinner. Classy, sophisticated, elegant, outstanding. If you are looking for a place to celebrate your wedding anniversary this is it."

  • "Chose Prix Menu made to feel welcome, fantastic value & service in a great setting & location."
    dined on 16/04/2014
  • "Attentive service, attractive dining room and delicious food - what more could one want? Oh yes, I have coeliac disease and need a gluten-free diet; this was mentioned when booking and confirmed by the restaurant the day before our visit. Great attention was paid to my requests and special adjustments made to dishes so that I could eat them. What a treat when such requests are often met with total misunderstanding. Would highly recommend to fellow coeliacs."
    dined on 16/04/2014
  • "Amazing food in a lovely restaurant. It is quite small so you need to book a table WAY in advance (for weekends at least). The tuna starter was amazing. Fairly large portions, well priced for what you get. We had a started and a main and were too full to have dessert. The vegetarian tasting menu also looked very good. Unfortunately they didn't accommodate my request to sit in the conservatory even if I booked several months in advance, but that didn't spoil the evening."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "We went for a pre theatre meal from the fixed menu, which was excellent, Service and ambience in the conservatory were very good, and we completed the meal in an unhurried manner, in good time. A very enjoyable and relaxing experience."
    dined on 15/04/2014
  • "Our first visit to Clos Maggiore did not disappoint ! Service was welcoming and exemplary throughout the meal, the food was fully up to our high expectations (bread choice was delicious and generous), crab starter quite delicious and pork cheeks just melted in the mouth. Coffee arrived with lovely Petit Fours. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant was intimate, cosy and classy with beautiful decor and flower arrangements. We could not have been happier and are already looking forward to the next visit."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "First time we had gone for the early prix fixe menu though the restaurant is an old favourite - great atmosphere and ambience, and service efficient but very friendly. Extremely good value for a pre theatre menu of high quality - substantial portions and good quality half bottle of wine included. Would highly recommend"
    dined on 14/04/2014
  • "Excellent food, as always and very good value. I have always been lucky enough to be seated in the conservatory which is so pretty, at any time of year. Always enjoy dining here and rate food, service and ambience highly."
    dined on 14/04/2014
  • "We booked this restaurant on 01/04/14 for Sunday afternoon 13/04/14. When booking I requested a table in the conservatory, I received confirmation that our request had been noted and tables would be allocated on first come first served basis. We turned up and were led to a table inside, they had to pull the table out to enable us to squeeze onto a bench seat, then the table was pushed back in on us! We said this was not satisfactory and asked to be seated in the near empty conservatory, we were told it was not possible, they were so rude that we left. They did not tell me when booking that they had been taking conservatory bookings since January, therefore they must have know that they could not fulfill our request. Disgraceful attitudes."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "My only criticism is that, despite booking many weeks in advance, and requesting a table at 2pm in the conservatory area, I was telephoned two days before the event and (a) it was suggested 2pm was too late because they wanted to close at 4 (b) we were too many for a table in the conservatory area Why couldn't they tell me straight away?"
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "If you like a restaurant with a charming dining room, great food, attentive service and a happy buzz, then you'll love Clos Maggiore. My second visit this week and, as always, a great experience."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Most eating places here are tourist traps. Clos Maggiore serves good food with professional service and fair prices: £30 each for two courses, a half carafe of wine, coffees and petit fours and a (£5!) bottle of sparkling water."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "We enjoyed a wonderful evening, food, service and atmosphere fantastic"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "This restaurant never fails to impress me. Food, service, ambience is always perfect! The lunch time or pre theatre menu is such excellent value for money, not what you would expect in the centre of London! I will return here again and again!"
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "The Clos Maggiore is an amazing restaurant with excellent food ( try rabbit, foie gras and lamb!) in alocation very romantic and lovely. The servers are very kind...all is perfect for a special dinner."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Clos Maggiore was an interesting experience of lunchtime dining, although I would think that it could also be pleasant to go there for an evening meal. Being French, it had a prix fixe menu, which turned out to be very good value, although next time I might try the "tasting menu" with accompanying wines already chosen. Drinking wine by the glass, which is possible, seemed the wiser choice, but prevented me from going very far into the extensive wine list, which is more like a volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Altogether a great occasion!!"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "I chose Clos Maggiore for a meal with my girlfriend as it had been voted the most romantic restaurant in London and, following reading the 5 star reviews, it was a no brainer. It did not disappoint. The service from start to finish was faultless. We were talked through all of the options on the menu by our French host (most of the staff are French giving it real authenticity) which was very helpful in deciding as all the options on the menu looked amazing. The food was spectacularly presented and was delicious. We were given free breads and mini cheese scones which was a nice touch! One tip I would give to a couple is to try and get a table at the rear of the restaurant as the scenery is stunning (it is nice everywhere else too though!)"
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "Great restaurant, everything was above expectations (which were quite high) from food to service and atmosphere! I will come back for sure!"
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "I have lost count of the number of times I have dined at Clos Maggiore - still one of my favourite places in London and still very good. The chef maintains a very high standard of cooking and the conservatory has to be one of the prettiest rooms anywhere.I have introduced countless friends to this restaurant and all agree it is marvellous."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "This restaurant offers 2 and 3 course table d'hote options with or without wine. The food is excellent, though sometimes a little fussy in its presentation. The house wine is also excellent, and the opportunity is there to upgrade to more expensive wines if desired. The ambience is very good, particularly in the conservatoire, and the service efficient and friendly, if a little over-attentive at times. Be prepared, however, for the meal to cost more than the price of the pre-theatre deal once water (£4.40) side dishes (around £4 or so), coffee (£4.50) and 12.5% service are added. You won't be disappointed given the overall quality, but it won't be quite the bargain you might have expected at first."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "I wanted to take my wife of 21 years to a romantic restaurant near Covent Garden and Clos Maggiore, recommended by friends, fitted the bill perfectly. Discreet, pleasant staff (all from Europe) made us very welcome. The set lunch with two wine options was excellent. Indeed the A La Carte menu seemed less inviting than the very good value set menus. The light, airy ambience and table settings ( not too close for comfort) made this a dining experience of exceptional enjoyment. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant as a wonderful dining experience."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "We booked six weeks prior to coming to London For a special birthday celebration. We also phoned To request the conservatory which is beautiful. The two women who seat people were beyond Rude and only seat people in the conservatory If they either know you, like you or supposedly Made a reservations six months prior. We sat in The adjacent room which was small and loud. The food was really good. Our wait staff was Superb! I have no need to go back."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "A super lunch with friends. Excellent food. Very relaxed....stayed for 3 hours. Would certainly return and perhaps try in the evening."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "Pretty setting, good food (while not being anything spectacular), poor service let it down. It took an age for a winelist to be provided, so much so that we'd ordered our meal before it arrived. This, however, didn't stop the sommelier asking what wine we'd like to order with our meal prior to the list arriving! Even when we pointed out that a bottle of wine was missing from the bull the staff were unfriendly, and somewhat condescending."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "The food, wine and service were faultless but the seating accommodation was not comfortable. There were three of us and suspect that we had been squashed on to table for two. My wife and son shared a narrow bench seat which caused my wife to constantly brush against the decorative foliage surrounding the alcove in which we were seated. We have dined at the Clos Maggiore previously and more comfortably, so this was a disappointment."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "Excellent choice for a meal before the Opera at Covent Garden, which was just a two minute walk away. The food choice on the Prix Fixe was necessaily limited, but was nevertheless quite excellent. The service, as ever, was very attentive without being intrusive--and they ensured we got away in good time for the start of the Opera.. We loved it!"
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "As always spot on for food, wine, service & atmosphere Worth noting that busy as it always is & that tables are turned several times during the evening, there is never a sense of being rushed to move on. Wish every other popular restaurant was the same"
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "I booked last minute during a birthday trip to London with my husband. Unfortunately we couldn't sit in the main room but the small dining area at the entrance still has a great atmosphere. All of the staff were excellent and the prix fixe menu was amazing value for money. We will definitely visit again, one of the finest meals we have had."
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "Lovely initimate feel to the place. Food and service excellent. The weighty tome that is the wine list was safely navigated with the friendly assistance of the sommelier. I chose the venue based on reviews from this site as I was looking for a 'special place' to take my lovely date for her birthday. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be back. Highly recommended."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "We booked the restaurant because it has good reviews for ambience and food. We requested table in the conservatory and although we phoned a few times to alter numbers, the staff were very accommodating and professional. The wine list was very good and extensive. We had an excellent recommendation from the sommelier. The food was absolutely fantastic as was the lovely effect of conservatory roof dressed in flowers. The waiters were attentive but not intrusive thus the service was good. We will definitely return again!"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • ""He who notices, cares" was once said by a notorious chef. We'll all I can say is that they do and they do! The whole experience is very carefully stage managed to perfection, not in a cynical way but like a well seasoned orchestra. The food is sumptuous, gracefully presented and top notch. The wine list is an experience in itself, and everything is kept moving at an acceptable pace. You don't feel hurried or hassled. Overall again, a hugely satisfying experience that few others can match in every way. Go and get treated properly. Even if you don't like the food (and I can't imagine why you wouldn't), the experience itself makes it something special."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Clos Maggiore was a good experience but not that exceptional - we were a bit disappointed by the service. Our waiter broke a glass in front of my husband (this happens) and kept apologising all evening long, and didn't offer us anything. The only thing to do in that case is stop talking about it and offer drinks. So this was disappointing for a restaurant of that level. Other than that, the décor is amazing (book a table in the "patio" area), and the food was very good."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Beautiful place; we were seated in the conservatory which has an elegant and blossom-time romantic atmosphere. The waiters were attentive but not obtrusive. The food was very good, as usual. We did not have wine with our meal (great selection available with a wine list thick enough to rival a bible) but had lovely cocktail instead. We could not manage a dessert, had coffee and petit fours. Just right. This is the second time I have been, the first being for lunch and the second in the evening. Enjoyed both times. Will definitely go again."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Chose this restaurant to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Its very romantic and was very well looked after by the brilliant staff there. Given I made a special request to celebrate a birthday, we received a complimentary birthday cake. Lovely restaurant, will definitely be coming back again. Highly recommend if you want to impress your date."

  • "We have dined here several times and always had a great time. However, due to a family party of seven who were travelling distances, we opted this time for the early sitting at 6pm, knowing that we had to be out by 8.30pm. This by itself puts pressure on both the diner and the staff...so quick ordering followed by fast service...kinda takes away from the overall experience....surely returning satisfied customers has to mean more than an extra cover???"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Excellent surroundings, food and service. Definitely go again.!"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Great restaurant very romantic. Will definitely go back. Main course and dessert fantastic. Only £27.95 for 3 course and half bottle of wine - considering you would pay that for a main course alone in any restaurant. Will definitely go back"
