A word from China Tang
Conceived by Sir David Tang, the founder of China Clubs in Hong Kong, Peking, and Singapore, as well as the life-style brand, "Shanghai Tang", China Tang aims to define the best of classical Cantonese food.

There is no fusion of dishes nor compromise on classical recipes, all are prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional spices and flavourings. No mono-sodium-glutomate (MSG) shall be used.

The decoration of China Tang will evoke a romantic sense of art deco of the thirties in line with the general architecture of the Dorchester Hotel. At the same time, there will be an abundance of Chinoiserie as well as a collection of art from both.

SET LUNCH MENU @ £27.50 AVAILABLE DAILY UNTIL 3.30PM

Diner Reviews
  • "We are from Hong Kong and we like China Tang in HK which is owned by the same group and the London China Tang. Indeed we like most of their restaurants in HK. We were also at the London China Tang perhaps abouta year ago and it was certainly more than OK. With its great ambience, that's why we invited 2 friends to join us this time. But the soup was barely OK. The BBQ duck+sea jelly fish was OK. The steamed beef was probably the better made dish. The fish, vegtable etc were all really marginal. It surely was not the standard on ewould expect from the restaurant the statue of China Tang!!!!"

  • "Expected a lot more from our first visit to China Tang - food average and quite bland, the honey spare ribs were the worst I have had for a long having little or no meat, also beware of hidden chillies in the chicken with spices dish which were described as "deadly" by the waitress. I think a lot of these pretentious reviews are based on price paid and not quality of food. Overall a very average experience."

  • "Very good food and attentive service. Ordered for sharing - scallops, prawns and crispy chicken were excellent standard. Will be returning for special occasions. However we were disappointed with the non alcoholic cocktails. Overpriced for what was served. We won't be ordering these again. "

  • "I disagree with quite a few of the negative reviews. Service is friendly, efficient and NON-INTRUSIVE! Booked for a table for two, had a superb evening. The waiting ataff were more than happy to oblige to menu changes and although the kitchen was a bit noisy at times, but not major to complain about. Great night, might drop in once again later this month."

  • "We love the ambience very much! The food was amazing as well."

  • "Unfriendly wait staff, acted as if we were bothering them. Greasy steak, oily vegetables, little to no flavor, overpriced. Regretfully we wasted time and money. Avoid this restaurant. Not sure how this restaurant receives even adequate reviews. If you're looking for good Asian food - Roka - Mayfair is WONDERFUL."

  • "THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT TO CHINA TANG AND WE WERE IMPRESSED FROM THE MOMENT WE ENTERED THE FOYA, THE INTERIOR DESIGN WAS CLASSICALLY ORIENTAL & TASTEFUL, THE SERVICE IMPECCABLE AND THE FOOD ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. EVERYTHING ABOUT CHINA TANG IS ALL ABOUT "EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS" WE WERE DELIGHTED BY THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE AND WILL BE RETURNING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.......THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING US FEEL VERY SPECIAL AND "AT HOME" ."

  • "An articulated choice of different flavours and tastes. Tables are a bit too much close each other. Second time here in a few months, always a very good service and a not-to-miss bar with stunning cocktails."

  • "I come here a lot but never actually wrote a review. The reason to come here is because it's halal and children enjoy it. However the food is over rated, not the best Chinese and not a cfortable seating. They have so many waiters over looking you and staff has been changed recently. Service is not bad at all, but food needs to come up a few gears! Many come for halal option..."

  • "Service was not up to scratch for the caliber of restaurant it is. Very relaxed waiters and a manager that doesn't know what time the kitchen closes."

  • "Very fun environment to eat light delicious Dim Sum, and other traditional Chinese offerings. Service attentive. My only complaint has to due with our Table. It was set with White draping table cloth beautifully, but was a folding table underneath. There was a bar on two sides of the table that hit my son and daughters knees, so they were not able to scoot into the table for a comfortable position while eating. My son moved to across from me, and my daughter tolerated. Overall our experience was memorable, and we will return!"

  • "We visited for my partners birthday. Service was slow all evening. When they brought out the main course they forgot my main dish so my partner had finished by the time I had started. Many staff walked by us whilst we sat with finished plates needing to be cleared. Food tasted great but we popped into Chiquito @ Leicester Square yesterday and had much much better service and paid less than half of what we did at China Tangs. After visiting China Tang a few times I wouldn't rush to return ."

  • "Maybe it was bad d ay for them but the service was very poor and the food was mediocre."

  • "China Tang's bar and restaurant are one of mine and my husband's favourites. You can't fault the service and the wine menu is wonderful."

  • "Love this restaurant, lovely bar, attentive but not overbearing staff and the food is wonderful. Classic Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, the flavours are fresh and the food tastes clean not greasy at all which is often the way with restaurant Chinese food. Wine list ranges from £25 upwards and we enjoyed a very nice bottle of Argentinean Merlot for £26 which was lovely. The cocktails are fantastic and the bar is definitely worth a visit."

  • "As the restaurant is located inside the Dorchester Hotel, I expected the ambience to be more exclusive as it was. The price is very reasonable for the location and the staffs were very friendly, responsive and helpful. The food came out very quickly, more than I expected."

  • "Went for a late lunch at China Tange with my boyfriend and two friends on Saturday. We really enjoyed the food and cocktails and the staff were very good and friendly. They even did a happy birthday dessert plate for our friend, which was a nice surprise for him. The food was lovely, we particularly enjoyed the seabass main and the szechuan prawns. The desserts were also very good. Would definitely go again and would recommend."

  • "The place was recommended to me by friend and I have to say I was gravely disappointed. Save the service and the setting everything else about the experience was over rated. Thankfully the comprehensive wine list made up for it and bar cocktails live up to the hype. Wouldn't recommend the dining experience. We also had a problem with their PDQ's and possibly would have been overcharged x2. We're still looking into that."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Our experience was extremely disappointing. Despite the presense of a Sommelier, the sauces served were so spicy that wine was impossible to be enjoyed with the meal. The wines at this Restaurant are priced more expensive than in other well-known Restaurants. I found the sweet-sour pork tasteless except for the Sauce. The chicken cashew was nothing Special. I've had better Food in take-outs. I was particulary disappointed insofar as I've had in other Establishments very good and tasty Chinese Food with a multitude of sauces that apparently are reserved for Insiders. My guest then was a Chinese Linguist and I have never experienced that Level of Quality since. In short, the Restaurant was a total waste of time."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "The atmosphere was rle nice, posh but not stuffy. Clientele is young professionals and families. The Chinese dim sum was very good indeed, and I saw a lot of Chinese people enjoying the food too so it obviously q authentic. The halal menu was one of the most comprehensive iv seen and it was a delight that halal prefs were catered to with detail and respect. The waitress was v polite but the lady who actually took our order did not speak any English and could not explain when we asked questions about the dishes which was rather disappointing for a high class venue. The non dim sum was average I'd say, but I would surely go again for the dim sum! Dessert was nice too - mango cheesecake and coconut crumble"

  • "i took my wife to china tang for dinner on valentines day. all i can say is, the food was no better than your average local chinese take away, at this price level, you can expect FAR better from places such as hakkasan or yauatcha. service was standard china town restaurant service. i have nothing more to say about this place. would NOT recommend at all."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Very good table service* and the signature roast pork dish in particular was excellent. A good ambiance-provided you are seated in the main body of the restaurant and not off to the side on the periphery. * Exception of the wine waiter who chose to recommend and serve a half bottle of white wine at a cost of £70.00-without giving any advance indication of such a cost."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Located within the Dorchester, the restaurant naturally exudes luxury and is beautifully decorated. The food was however just simply Chinese food, there was nothing out of the ordinary about it. I didn't think the food was that expensive however it really is just a pricey Chinese, you are paying the added extra just for dining in the Dorchester not because you are tasting amazing food. The cocktails were however amazing. I enjoyed my email, the service was ok and if I was invited to dine here again I would go but I would not book to go again myself."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Booked this for a post valentines treat Often dine at the Dorchester but first time at china tang as royal china and four seasons are usual haunts for Chinese. Dimsum 5 stars Duck ( roast Cantonese duck) 3 stars - especially compared to 4 seasons Accompaniments 5 stars Wine list 5 stars Service 4 stars Overall 4 stars - had the lunch special good value but wilfully splurged on drinks Perhaps the Peking duck will be better - will try next time Great ambience upstairs piano bar Pity didn't see George clooney about"

  • "China Tang was very poor. Service, in an empty restaurant, was slow and without attention. The food was very poorly presented. The plan in going to a Chinese restaurant had been to have tasty food and good service. China Tang represented poor value for money and service so indifferent that we refused to pay the service charge."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "I am a great fan of China Tang and dine there regularly but last Sunday their food wad disappointing Only two or three dishes out of a very large order were really good: the rest were average and most were without flavor. In their defense, they were very busy and the staff seemed tense: however, the service was good if slower than usual."
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "The service was very poor - our waiter was very rude. We were in a bit of a rush to catch a play but the waiter did not seem to want to help us get the food quickly. Will not dine here again."

  • "Really enjoyed this restaurant more than once . Excellent authentic food . Great ambience and poetry in the bathroom !"

  • "So I suddenly have this carving for Beijing/Peking duck. So I found out that I can order it in this restaurant with pre-ordering. The Beijing duck is really good… i mean the taste is really good… just wish the skin will be crispier. But it's almost the best I had eaten in London. Other dish is good but not memorable. Cost-Performance is average. Worth the money. Good for special occasion."
    dined on 26/01/2014
  • "Worst Chinese meal I have had for a long time. Appalling, completely unimaginative, badly cooked, poor quality food."
    dined on 22/01/2014
  • "I love the ambiance in both the bar and restaurant, including the private rooms. Very much in the vein of Hong Kong and Shanghai eateries at their best. The dim sum and others snacks are excellent, the carved Peking Duck and Suckling Pig (24 Hours Notice) at the table are well presented and carved with plenty of meat. All the favourites are included on the menu and I can particularly recommend the Sichuan Prawns and Steamed Fish. Well done to the entire team and to David Tang for the inspiration."

  • "We booked a late supper after the theatre for our daughters Birthday. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and did arrange a little cake with a candle for our daughter, they even came out singing Happy Birthday for her, which was lovely. Service in general was pleasant , but that's the problem , it was just pleasant, not special in any way. Food again was good but not outstanding. Felt a bit shoved in a corner. Whereas all the staff in the Dorchester welcomed us with open arms and made us feel so very welcome, nothing was too much trouble yet in Chine Tang, something was missing. As for the extensive wine list, it was very overpriced and we have had far better wine for £20 rather than the £55 bottle we had."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "The food is excellent! A bit too noisy and the tables are too close."

  • "China Tag has a very nice and calm atmosphere and an attractive décor and the staff were friendly enough. However, the dim sum selections were disappointing in quality. One or two, such as beef dumplings, were good, but items such as prawn toast and spring rolls lacked flavour or texture, inferior to most food from china town or, for example, 'Shanghai' in Dalston. For 2 beers and 6 dim sum dishes we paid £50. Very overpriced for the quality in my opinion so overall I could not strongly recommend this restaurant"

  • "Back again 3 weeks after my first visit. It was the same set menu as last time, but that wasn't a problem. I think I was probably a little generous with some of my marks first time round (I definitely knew I had rounded them up). I really love the feel of the place (the bar is great too and feels sort of Chinese Art Deco to me, which is interesting). The food is traditional Chinese and is tasty and great value. I did award it 5 out of 5 for value last time, but 4 is probably more accurate as I feel the "main" could be a a bit more interesting (but it is v good-it's all relative). I can't comment on the A La Carte which is a different price point that I would only look to pay for Chinese in Hong Kong. The staff are very efficient and pleasant"

  • "Best food we've had at any restaurant in UK in the last 10 years.Tried duck, beef and prawns. All food was full of flavor and fresh. The service was great and very quick (on a Saturday)! Friendly and courteous staff. The ambience was breathtaking.Plan to gift a voucher to our best friends to try this place. Highly recommended!!"
