About Chez Bruce
Bruce Poole and Nigel Platts-Martin opened Chez Bruce in 1995. From the outset, it was their intention to serve the very best food and drink but within a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally orchestrated environment.
At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.

As always it was amazing. The staff are brilliant.
Not quite as good as previous meals
We eat here fairly often, the staff are outstanding but the restaurant is slightly cramped and uncomfortable. I have always felt it represented very good value, but less sure after our last meal. Although it was very good I have had far better meals here in the past, I don't think the cote du boeuf is a patch on what it was a few years ago when a nice full piece was served at the table. The prices have inched up as to be expected but I don't think the standard of food is quite as good. The best thing about this restaurant is the professional and extremely pleasant staff. There was no real highlight at this meal.

Chez Bruce delivered again. This time a Sunday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. We went with out two adult daughters. Everything was good. You can't go wrong. It's expensive but deservedly so

I love Chez Bruce and always eagerly anticipate our visits. Expectations are always sky high, yet somehow they always manage to exceed them. Five stars on every level, fantastic service and wonderful food. A shinning star on the London Restaurant scene.
Chez Bruce never fails to impress, whether you're there for dinner or, in my case, Sunday lunch. Impeccable service, impeccable food.
Had a lovely evening at Chez Bruz. Lovely evening; the food was superb. Great, unhurried service. Wonderful cheeses too. Bill as expected. We ordered the wrong wine. It was too sweet for a variety that is normally a little aromatic but not to this extent. This was more like a dessert wine. In other places the sommelier might have doubled checked with us; in this case she did not. So we had to get another bottle. Not a big problem, but something to keep an eye on.
Flawless as always
We are so very fortunate to have Chez Beuce in our doorstep though even if it wasn't , we'd travel across London to get there. Always inventive, the menu changes daily and so many things you'd love to have. Service impeccable - friendly, informative, unobtrusive and super efficient. All in all a fab experience and one we'll repeat over and over...
Lived up to expectations
I have wanted to visit Chez Bruce for a while after hearing several glowing recommendations, and it certainly did not fail. This is an established top top restaurant, fantastic food, service was attentive without being overly intrusive, the place was busy, the wine list is extensive and the cheese board was to die for. If I was looking to be overly critical I would say my starter could have been a bit warmer but that could come down to personal preference. Chez Bruce is not cheap but still good value for money. I will be using this restaurant as a treat again soon. Thanks
Excellent food, wonderful service
I visited Chez Bruce on Sunday 8th November for lunch and I could not have been more impressed. The food was fantastic and the ambience was perfect. The staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating to my sister who has a dairy intolerance. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation, and I look forward to visiting again soon!
First time I and my wife Emma have visited Chez Bruce. Hugely impressed by the whole experience: delicious food, delightful and attentive staff , unpretentious and friendly atmosphere, excellent wine list. From now on will be one of my own favorite restaurant in London.
Had a most excellent Sunday lunch at Chez Bruce, the service was spot on, attentive but casual and fun, the hardest to get right, the food was perfect in every way as was the Chocolate Block, well done to Bruce and all his staff.
Yet again Chez Bruce was superb
I have never been dissapointed with Chez Bruce and I suspect I never will, the staff are excellent, the food glorious and you feel a real sense of occasion without feeling uncomfortable, the fact that most of the staff remain the same shows quality and makes you feel special when you are recognised and greeted with huge smiles and warmth, I have been here many times and fully intend to visit again very soon. Thank you again..
We had heard many great things about Chez Bruce. I think for the money spent, it was slightly disappointing. The starter, partridge breast with black pudding, was very good. The partridge was a bit bland but the flavours on the plate were flavoursome and interesting. The main was steak which was cooked perfectly but the chips were a bit too much. Rich and too fatty. The dessert was good but the caramel in the ice cream very rich. Overall the food was great but was it worth £170 for two? I thought the service was average at best, and nothing special. I have had better meals out.

The food was delectable, the Pinot Noir was one of the finest I ever tasted and the staff could not have been more hospitable. One of my favourite restaurants in London!
A wonderful Sunday lunch with the family for a special occasion, with impeccable service
It was our first time at Chez Bruce. We had been searching for a special restaurant to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary when a friend recommended Chez Bruce. We chose an early meal as 9.30 is just too late for us to eat. The only criticism is that the wines are a bit pricey. But the food was delicious and we had a lovely evening.
FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN LONDON
I have lost count of the number of times I have visited Chez Bruce since moving into the Wandsworth Common neighbourhood but I have never left the restaurant without being hugely impressed by the whole experience. A totally unpretentious and unfussy atmosphere, an excellent and imaginative wine list, delightful and attentive staff and exquisite food - always. That's why, after 5 years + of visits, it remains s my wife, my family and my own favorite restaurant in London.
Love Chez Bruce
As ever, dining at CB was a wonderful experience. The food, the brilliant team who always deliver faultless service and the lovely restaurant made for a pretty perfect evening. My only complaint is that CB is so popular that we had to accept a 6:30pm reservation which wasn't ideal, but I should have known, book as far in advance as possible for a Friday table :-). If anyone needs any help choosing their main course, persuade a friend to share the cote de beouf, it is truly divine!
Food wonderful but service so so
Food was superb as always however service & attention to detail wasn't quite there which was a shame, hope it was just a one off: -I booked 2 months in advance and specifically requested a table by the window which was not fulfilled & table we were given on arrival was unstable & had to have napkin wedged underneath -We were only asked at the end of every course how everything was - surely better to ask near the start so if there had been any issues they could have been resolved -Waiter did not ask who was drinking red for 2nd course & was about to fill everyone’s glass -Waiter tried to put down soup on place with no soup spoon -Long gap between ordering and receiving dessert with coffees all cold or drunk by the time it arrived -I put in my coat and a bag when we arrived but was only given the coat back at the end. Ok my fault too for forgetting the bag but would have expected them to be brought out together -It was incredibly hot in there, everyone on our table was commenting on it & there were several red faces around the room – not sure if the air con was broken?
Had a wonderful lunch at Chez Bruce - highly recommend! Great service, ambience, food and wine - just perfect for a special occasion.

we have been eating at chez bruce 2-3 times a year for 20 years & always enjoy it ; the food & service is always extremely good; my cod was perfectly cooked - i e it was 'just' cooked ; the Italian waitress from Germany was able to remind me of the Calabrian town where the best red onions hail from! (Tropea)
We love coming here for lunch and do so on a regular basis. The food and service are always delightful. As usual I found it difficult to decide what to have, as always want about three things from each course. The menu is inspired and inventive, and the presentation second to none.
Decent food but all rather old fashioned
We had been meaning to visit Chez Bruce for some time, having tried most of the other decent South London restaurants. The name had always put us off as it is a little old fashioned but we decided to give it a go having seen many positive reviews about the quality of the food (and also given Trinity was closed for the refurb, our preferred choice in South London). The experience was mixed. The food is good, that is clear. Everything was cooked well and presented to a reasonable standard. However, nothing really excited us or reached the standards we were hoping to see. It was poor in comparison with The Dairy in Clapham, where we ate the previous week. None of the dishes reached the heights of those we have had in Trinity (again close by in Clapham). It reminded me of the very first Michelin starred restaurant I went to over twenty years ago in Yorkshire (The Old Vicarage), which was fine twenty years ago but now feels a little tired. The service was similar in feel, with staff delivering their lines robotically with no charm or personality: it felt false, because it was. Again, that was to be expected in Michelin starred restaurants twenty years ago but not now. Also it appears that any deviation from the script will lead to considerable confusion so don't expect any flexibility with the menu (a request for a very simple cocktail required a 10 minute argument). In general, it feels like the restaurant relies on the long-standing Michelin star cachet a little too much and has failed to change with the times. Perhaps there is a client base for this kind of restaurant (I'm thinking fairly conservative diners with plenty of money that want consistent food and like formal service with no personality): we will not go back. There are much better restaurants in South London (e.g. The Dairy and Trinity), let alone those only a short taxi journey away, where your money will be much better spent.
Very good food across the board, excellent wine selection (including the Coravin) and very friendly service. There was a bit of a wait between each course which wasn't a problem for us as we were there for a long leisurely lunch but if you were in a hurry this could've been an issue. Lovely table upstairs overlooking Wandsworth Common. Definitely will return to this legendary restaurant.
Outstanding for special occasion
Visited as a treat to celebrate my husband's birthday. Food was sublime, especially the desserts and service was great. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again soon!

The family (me, my wife and our two children of 4 and 2 years) went for my wife's birthday lunch on a Saturday. As ever, the food is amazingly well priced for a 3-course menu. Naturally you pay a little extra for the drink as that is supported by the sommelier and very attentive staff. On this occasion they also dealt with our requests for our kids lunches very well. We've never taken them there before but it worked out well. Love this place.
Chez Bruce is normally one of my favourite restaurants in London and certainly the best in South London. Sadly we hit a poor night as whilst the starters and puddings were as good as ever the main course choice was poor ( with too few meat dishes ) resulting in my wife and I both choosing a grouse dish which was disappointing al round. The vegetables were small and slightly tasteless and the meat was so undercooked as to be inedible. Whilst I accept some people like it like this they might ask as many do not. Really disappointing. The staff and service were as good as ever.
excellent as always
Chez Bruce is consistently amazing. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is always a delight to eat and beautifully presented. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. I can't wait to go back.
Dinner at Chez Bruce
Dinner is a real treat. Excellent and varied 3 course menu and wine list. Attentive but not obsessive service. Personally I would prefer the option to pay less for 2 courses but it is a small point.

We celebrate our anniversary every year in chez Bruce . Fabulous food and can be utterly relied upon .
Excellent Sunday lunch
I found the service very relaxed and friendly. We didn't feel rushed, although we took a long time to decide on our choices. The bread and little biscuits were excellent, and the food was very good. The house rosé was very pleasant, as were the dessert wines that the sommelier recommended. Would certainly go back.
Fantastic as always!
This is the 4th time I have been to Chez Bruce and was once again 100% pleased with the quality of both the service and the food. Although it is not 'cheap' it is certainly reasonable for the quality! Will (hopefully) be back very soon.
As always, excellent food and great atmosphere!
As always, excellent food and great atmosphere, faultless!
Fantastic food, exceptionally good value for the standard! We shall be back!
We have been going to Chez Bruce for many years, generally for special occasions because of the quality of the food (and of course the commensurately high prices, which are to be expected). No quarrel with the prices if the food matches up, but on this occasion it didn't. In particular, again in contrast to the past, the main courses didn't seem to offer much choice. Cote de boeuf and Yorkshire grouse incurred a £6 or £7 supplement. There was no pork or poultry (apart from the grouse), and the roast cod, though immaculately cooked, was disappointingly lacking in flavour. The lService was really excellent, though because we'd booked for 7pm and therefore had to be out by 9.15pm, it was also very swift, which meant that our plates were cleared and the menus brought as soon as each course was finished. In consequence, perhaps, even the greediest of our greedy family had no room for dessert. Our sommelier was very helpful, and saw his task -- to provide an interesting an unusual white -- as a happy challenge which he met with enthusiasm and considerable success. Overall, a pleasant evening which didn't meet expectations garnered from previous visits.
Really tasty food
Went for lunch on a Saturday. Was busy but very good service. Vegetarian options were tasty as was meat options that husband had. Would go back although if you want romantic meal, evening may be a better bet.
We dined at lunchtime on Sunday 13th September. It was our first time at the restaurant and really enjoyed the experience. 3 courses including a cheeseboard and coffee afterwards. All courses were enjoyable and the cheese selection was great. Small complimentary extras such as parmesan biscuits, chocolate truffles and shortbread add to the experience. Good value and would definitely return.
Fantastic restaurant. Fantastic food.
Fantastic restaurant. Fantastic food.
Chez Bruce, 12 September 2015
My wife and I went to Chez Bruce for her 40th birthday. Neither of us had been for about 5 years, and were curious to see whether it still lived up to its reputation. In fact, we both thought it was better than ever. We expected the food to be excellent, and it was. What particularly struck me, however, were two things. First, the service was quite exceptional. My wife is very heavily pregnant, and the waiting staff could not have been more attentive and receptive to her dietary needs (e.g. no alcohol, pasteurised cheese etc). Secondly, I was surprised by how reasonable the bill was at the end of the evening, after a celebratory dinner where we both felt replete and where one of us had an aperitif and a good white wine. The bill came to about £150: not cheap, but excellent value for an exceptionally good experience.
Super evening at Chez Bruce!
Took my mum here for 70th Birthday meal, had a fantastic evening. Fod and service great!
