A word from Chez Bruce
Bruce Poole and Nigel Platts-Martin opened Chez Bruce in 1995. From the outset, it was their intention to serve the very best food and drink but within a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally orchestrated environment.
At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.

Diner Reviews
  • "I took my girlfriend here as a special easter treat. The food was brilliant, great service and surprisingly generous portions. The rest of the patrons were a little on the older sherry drinking side or the baby rearing side, but that as fine. I'd definat;y go back"

  • "The service was amazing. Attentive without being overbearing and very knowledgeable about the food. It was so good I called the next day to say so, which I never do! The food was also brilliant with a fantastic cheese selection. We even got some chocolates to take home to celebrate out anniversary!"
    dined on 18/04/2014
  • "Another wonderful evening at Chez Bruce. Food, as ever, was amazing and lots to choose from. The only slight negative this time was that we had to wait for a very long time between starter and main course. Other than that, everything was fantastic. "

  • "We had an excellent meal on Wednesday evening. The food was superb and the staff and service were outstanding."

  • "Chez Bruce always gives consistently good food, service and wine. The decor is a little outdated, something from 20years ago maybe. But the food is always good. Dessert was just fantastic - very imaginative."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "This was my second time at this restaurant but there were others in our group of 8 who have been here several times. The menu is extensive and is great value for money. Everyone in our group enjoyed each of their course and it is also well worth having the cheese selection as well! Good wine list with many reasonable options and service is generally very good."

  • "The dining room is very confortable and the service is friendly and quick .But I was very dispointed by the menu.(lunch)All the dishes contained Garlic even the Foie Gras, I would have preferred to have A la carte Menu."
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "Second visit to chez Bruce and again we weren't disappointed. The menu is evolving and seasonal, and you really can taste every fresh ingredient masterfully put together by the kitchen team. Booked in again and can't wait!"

  • "Chez Bruce is in my view one of the best restaurants in London. Amazing food and wine selection, consistently good in a low key but classy and relaxed environment."

  • "We ate at Chez Bruce for the second time and were not disappointed. Food and wine sublime, the taste, texture and presentation of all the dishes were brilliant. The restaurant atmosphere is buzzy and the service excellent with nothing too much trouble. We visited with my husbands guide dog and he even got his own water bowl neatly placed on a linen napkin. This is definitely our favourite restaurant"

  • "This was my first of many visits that I will have to Chez Bruce. Great, food, ambience, service with an extensive choice. I loved it."
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Delicious food, well presented. Very attentive staff, going out of their way to delight customers. Will always come back."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "In terms of taste of the food, this is one of the best restaurants there is. It helps that it is walking distance for us. It is very French, so if you don't like heavy food, then don't come. But i do!"
    dined on 03/03/2014
  • "I had Wild garlic soup, fresh and bursting with flavour without being overpowering, accompanied by some fresh bread, and preceded by a nice touch of some house made Parmesan crisps with aperitif. Followed by a pig's trotter, again fresh and fun, stuffed with cabbage and ham, msg enjoyable and a followed by a rich and creamy creme brûlée very generously sized. The neighbour's cote de boeuf looked very good too. Wine list a little short but fine, good selection of sweet wines. Service friendly and willing, and smartly done but we suffered by being upstairs so a little short on attention, and lucky we like it quiet as upstairs would lack atmosphere for some. Overall a good experience, and worth a trip from Chelsea."

  • "Wonderful dinner, very helpful and amiable staff, good buzz in the restaurant and can't wait to return."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "We were seated in the smaller dining room on the first floor - has a great view onto the common. Set menu had some great choices - went for salmon started and chateaubriand main. Both fantastic. Opted for the cheese board which had a huge range of cheeses. Lovely meal."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "Everything about Chez Bruce makes it stand out from a 'standard' restaurant. The food is exceptional whilst the staff are very attentive without being intrusive and take care of every facet of the night. A fantastic meal to spend with your loved ones."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "37 page wine list, but not the wine I chose. starter was trying too hard - mushrooms/cheese/sultanas? no. odd bread service - what's wrong with putting it on the table? do i have to have i shoved under my nose for individual selection by hand? menu pretty limited, lots of fish, only steak was for 2 and have had similar pork in a gastro pub."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Overall an excellent night out for tour of us, celebrating my husband's birthday. Foie gras a superb light/creamy texture, delicious. Lamb tahini description undersells how good the lamb was. Only let down from all starters, mains, puss and cheese was the hake - 'hot, wet, tomatoey fish'. Yes we had a fair bit of dine but the the £520 bill was still a bit of a gulper. So overall a success but pretty hefty on the bill, hence the four stars."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "Having enjoyed first class service on previous occasions (though going back 2 years now) with just the right mixture of attentiveness and discretion, we were v disappointed by the service this time. They weren't busy but we had to ask twice for our order to be taken after a lengthy wait. No warmth or charm shown throughout. Food was delicious, as always, but sad to see the drop in service standards."
    dined on 24/03/2014
  • "Brilliantly executed dishes. Very creative. Great culinary techniques. The downside is the service, not up to standards for a Michelin star experience. Basic bread basket. The hostess should get some training on how to address guests. Very rude individual who spoilt our dinner with both the content of what she told us and the tone used. We will not go back."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "The food is sublime. We both chose lovely dishes and really enjoyed them. The lamb tagine was gorgeous and the cod sumptuous. Our desserts too were really creative and delicious. We sat upstairs by the door which gave us no real sense of atmosphere at all. A shame."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Overall very good - pleasant atmosphere, good food and excellent service. It would be nice if there was a small bar area, as we got there early and our table wasn't yet free, so we had to go to the pub next door for aperitifs."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "This is where I have celebrated every good piece of news for the last 8 years. It is my favourite restaurant in London for the food, the staff and the decor. The food is do comfortingly luxurious. The staff are so welcoming and accommodating. Nothing is ever too much trouble. They also remember little things from one visit to another which make a big difference. If you go, I recommend the fantastic cheeseboard and the chocolate pudding. The little extras such as the shortbread and chocolate truffles are also so irresistible!! Truly a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours amazing your taste buds"
    dined on 21/08/2013
  • "We had yet another wonderful experience at Chez Bruce. The food and service are excellent and at only £45 for 3 courses it's good value."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "What I enjoyed most about Chez Bruce was the sheer effortlessness of the whole experience. Behind the scenes there is clearly a huge amount of attention to detail and focus on everything working well. Beautifully prepared and presented food served with the minimum of fuss made for the perfect backdrop to an intimate evening. Bravo!"
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "I chose the restaurant after reading reviews which had raised my expectations of a very special evening. Although my three fellow diners were happy I was a little disappointed with the ambiance, the service (which was efficient rather than friendly), the food (which was good rather than special) and the wine which was overpriced. Taking a taxi from W1 was also not a good idea. I blame the reviewers rather than the restaurant."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "We've been to Chez Bruce a number of times over the past 10 years or so. It's still more or less "got it" when it comes to high quality, well presented food in a classy setting, but hasn't really moved much with the times. The service is a bit so-so, compared to the likes of Ramsay's excellent London House, and the food ever so slightly lacking, which makes it all rather average value. A little bit provincial, perhaps, whereas Wandsworth is far from that these days. Three stars still counts as "good" - but must try harder. It's also a right pain to get a booking at 7.30-8pm which is when most people want to eat - not because of a shortage of tables, but because they expect the diners to work around the kitchen. Ho hum."
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "I took the girlfriend to Chez Bruce for her birthday lunch. I have wanted to eat there for ages and I wasn't disappointed. All our dishes were world-class and the service was impeccable. The waiters were very knowledgable about the menu and the whole experience was magnificent. It was good to see English sparkling on the wine list but if I had any quibble at all it would be that the wine prices seemed slightly steep. £45 for three courses for lunch was very reasonable and I particularly appreciated the emphasis on seasonal ingredients. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to and in my view up there with the absolute best London has to offer. Worth a trip south of the river!"
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Wonderful, as always, three course lunch. Service and atmosphere just right. Great value too."
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "Had an amazing meal with my husband at Chez Bruce. We have been before and were more impressed 2nd time round. All three courses were just so delicious and the red wine we had with our beef was perfect! Shall definitely be going back as soon as possible and will be ordering the same as last time! Thank you Chez Bruce!"
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "One of the benefits of Chez Bruce, & indeed its sister restaurants, is that they attract a high level of local clientele. As such, the atmosphere seems more convivial and relaxed than some City centre establishments who attract more corporate business. The décor is modern and light; traditional though, not avant garde. The service is excellent and there is great continuity amongst the staff. And so to the food ... the Sunday menu is, as you would expect, a little more traditional than usual. As usual, starting with dessert: there is only one choice for the serious chocoholic - moist sponge cake, swimming in dark chocolate & almonds. So a light main: the cod with truffle mash. To start: curried parsnip soup. Excellent strength & consistency."

  • "We hadn't eaten here for about 20 years, in spite of very positive memories, but were delighted to find the food quality, choice and elegant service as good as it was back then. Perfect for a celebration meal and introducing young people to fine dining - an exciting but not scary lunchtime menu choice, attentive staff and a lovely atmosphere, The wine list was a little intimidating in its range (better that than the other, I guess), but we were very well advised on a good match for personal tastes and meal selection. I am advised by my fellow diners that the creme brule achieved the same levels of excellence as 20 years ago. Go nowhere else in South London for a special meal!"

  • "We had high hopes following various [reliable] friends recommendations but these were easily surpassed in every aspect...well worth the drive from South Yorkshire !"
    dined on 02/03/2014
  • "Just the most well run, great food, amazing wine list and predictably fantastic dinner - given variable quality and higher prices elsewhere, this is London's #1 dining destination."
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "Had the set lunch menu. Food was great and good selection to choose from. Service was very good and place was not too stuffy considering it is a Michelin starred restaurant"

  • "We went to Chez Bruce to celebrate a milestone birthday. Having heard excellent things about the restaurant, we were more than thrilled when the food and service surpassed all of our expectations. The staff was easily accommodated a request for gluten-free (serving some of the best gluten-free bread I have ever had). The food itself was superb. I would go back in a heartbeat."
