  • "We thoroughly enjoyed the food - we ordered the pre-theatre menu which was great value, and the service was first class - the waiters were attentive, and we received a complimentary spices poppadum with chick pea dip as well as the poppadums we ordered. The food was served very quickly and was delicious. I would definitely return to Charcoal and would have no hesitation in recommending to a friend."

  • "To put it simple this is the best of the best. The food was outstanding as was the service.I would recommend the tandoori mixed grill, it takes a bit of eating but it is the best I have had by far, very tender chicken and the chops too. The fish pakora is first class, pure white and very fresh. The service was excellent and very friendly Would recommend this restaurant 100%"

  • "We had our first meal here on Sunday afternoon. The service was great, nothing too much trouble. The food was absolutely delicious. We received a complimentary starter and a vodka jelly drink too. It was my partner's birthday meal and we both really enjoyed the overall experience. Cant wait to go back."

  • "Charcoals never disappoints, with food that is fresh and tasty, and terrific friendly service. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, the staff at Charcoals are eager to please, and will do whatever they can to ensure that you have a great time. The place is unprepossessing, but don't let that put you off. The welcome is what draws you in, and the food is what guarantees you'll stay."

  • "From the moment we arrived Ali the manager made us feel very welcome, in fact all the staff we lovely. Our table was ready there was no waiting. The quality of the food was excellent and we liked the little complementary tasters that we were brought...these were really tasty. The food we ordered was cooked fresh and the curries can be ordered to the strength of spice you like. The portions of food were spot on ....not too much and not to little. We paid just under £50 for the 2 of us for 2 courses and a couple of drinks each so felt it was good value for money. I would definitely recommend and we will be going again if we are back in Glasgow. Well done Ali and the team."

  • "Walking in the dangling fairy lights, loud Indian music and red laminated menus made me feel as though I'd just walked through a time gate into 1983! However don't judge a book by its cover. Although the names of most of the menu items will be familiar, the food has an individual twist, and our waiter was incredibly enthusiastic and attentive. They have a number of vegetarian dishes that aren't on the menu and we sampled vegetable bread, a red bean curry and a chickpea appetiser all of which were wonderful as was the Charcaols special chicken tikka which is served dry with a separate curry sauce. Definitely will go back next time we're in Glasgow."

  • "Main meal was a water gravy , rather than thick sauce and there was a service charge added automatically on the bill."

  • "A brilliant night out with my friends for 2 x birthdays. The food, the service and just about everything was lovely. A great choice of dishes. There is big vegetarian selection. I'd recommend the Saag Paneer. There was nine of us and not one said anything other than delicious. I'd happily recommend Charcoals to anyone."

  • "My partner and I have visited charcoals on a regular basis for the best part of two years and also have taken our baby daughter who will sit so comfortably in this relaxed environment. The attentiveness of the staff is really reassuring and the food is always up to the highest standard. We went for our valentines dinner with our 14 month old little girl on Saturday, My partner was given a real rose, and Ali (the owner) took a photograph of us printed it and put it in a frame which was really lovely. We always get the same food from the menu and every time there could not be a fault in it. My partner gets chicken pakora to start then a traditional curry, and I have the chicken pakora also then a lamb tikka korma which is absolutely amazing!!"

A couple of complimentary extra starters were also thrown in. Service was excellent. Our second time there and would recommend."

  • "Just the 2 of us for a wedding aniversary meal. Restaurant was quiet when we arrived. Staff were very attentive (and generous with free samples!), without being 'in your face'. Food was very good. Stairway to toilets could have been cleaner. Good choice on pre-theatre menu (£9.95 for two courses). Handy city centre location."

  • "Stay in Glasgow for Chirstmas shopping weekend - we use this restaurant every year and always had value for money and fab food. Pre booking is a must though as the place is very busy."
    dined on 13/12/2013
  • "We dined here on a recommendation. Was a little concerned about the internal layout but the greeting was friendly and we were seated straight away. We were offered poppadoms which we declined but a few minutes later they were presented anyway! Have to say they were awful and served with an unusual accompaniment that didn't taste nice at all. However, happily when our main courses arrived they looked and smelled nice and were very tasty and the naan bread was good too. We were not blown away with this restaurant but may return in future. The waiters were very pleasant and the restaurant was fairly busy."

  • "We had a group of 8 there on Friday evening. Great night, lots of extras and very friendly and attentive staff."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "Charcoals is deceptive - sitting on Renfield Street it does not, from the outside, demonstrate what a solid, high-quality Indian restaurant it is. A simple menu, but excellent ingredients - and good service all round."
    dined on 14/01/2014
  • "We chose Charcoals because it had already attracted good reviews from previous customers. We were not disappointed in any way. We were made to feel genuinely welcome from the moment we stepped inside the door and were given just the right amount of attention throughout our stay. The menu was well varied with some unfamiliar dishes among the standard Indian restaurant fare and when our choices arrived they each had distinctive flavours and we're not at all greasy - not always our experience elsewhere...The portions served were generous, but we were also treated to some 'on the house' extras to try. All in all, a great evening, but go hungry and, if possible, take several friends."
    dined on 10/01/2014
  • "Make sure you book in advance! We've been lucky sometimes to get in on the off chance......but have learnt it's so popular you can't just expect to walk in and get a table. Service is excellent and the food is as good. We just like it because they treat every customer the same, 100%. Haven't tried the new place in Merchant City yet. The one in Renfield Street is just a spit away from the station, so it suits us."

  • "An amazing Indians the food was the best iv tasted, the staff and service were fantastic , I would recommend this place to anyone don't visit glasgow with out trying it ."
    dined on 03/01/2014
  • "I visited Charcoals for lunch with my brother and his wife, who had been there several times before and suggested it. It's not a fancy place - looks halfway between cafe and restaurant - but service, provided or supervised by the friendly proprietor, is first rate and the food is very good. This is one of those restaurants at which you're apt to get little extras put on the table and it's all good stuff. It was all very relaxed during our visit, but the restaurant wasn't full and it was a late-ish lunch - don't know what it would be like during the evening."

  • "Very busy venue not suited for large groups , Good food great staff."

  • "This has become our fav Indian restaurant. We have taken numerous people and they have all loved it. The food & service are always fantastic. Ali & his team will always go above & beyond to please the customer. If you have never been after the first time you will return as does nearly all of Ali's customers."

  • "This was our first visit and we were very pleased with the evening. The food was excellent, the service was very friendly and attentive and overall it was good value. We would definitely go back again."

  • "I just love Charcoals and do try and get there at least once a month, I have tried other restaurants in and around Glasgow and nothing compares to this, food is good and also the service is the best"

  • "I was pleasantly suprised with my first visit to Charcoals. From the minute my friend and I walked through the door the staff could not do enough for us. The food was lovely. I had the fish pakora to start with, which I can recommend, beautiful white fish which just falls apart. The garlic nan is to die for and the Jaipuri is also fab. Could not really fault anything. I will be going back, hopefully it will be the same. The restaurant is quite small but this should not stop anyone from going in and giving it a chance."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "This was my third visit, and the busiest I have seen the restaurant. However, service was not affected, it was still friendly and efficient with little extras being offered to try. A nice touch."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "Well worth a visit. Excellent food and the service was superb with the staff very well mannered and attentive. I had only been once before and the manager remembered me, which a nice surprise and very good from a customer service pov"

  • "Travelling from Canada, my daughter and I were looking for a good Indian restaurant in Glasgow. I had read the Tripadvisor reviews beforehand, so decided to make reservations at Charcoals. We had a great meal and the staff were friendly and accommodating! We had a chance to have really nice conversations with both our waiters, making the whole experience more homey and welcoming. Next time we travel to Glasgow we'll make a point of coming again to Charcoals!"
