CartersFine dining.Very friendly host staff; paid just the right amount of attention throughout. The menu choice is small: 4 starters, 4 mains- each with two fish options and one "shared" option. If you don't like fish and didn't want the shared option, you were left with only one choice of starter and main- look at the menu before you go. We had duck egg and scallops for starters. Well presented with old and new techniques. Well flavoured. We shared Rib-eye for a main, which was glorified steak, chips, and salad. The salad was disappointing: overly bitter dandylion greens with three pieces of baby gem. The chips, steak, and gravy were very very tasty and well cooked, but far from worth the price paid (60£). Overall a mixed bag, but promising. Will go again.14/06/2013 00:00:00Birthday MealMy 4th visit to Carter's, this time to celebrate my beloved's birthday. I will keep coming back; food, service and atmosphere was spot on. We ordered scallops to start and then beef platter for two to share. Both were excellent. The chef's attention to detail combined with high quality ingredients and tentative and friendly team made for a fantastic evening. We also really enjoyed the nibbles between courses, "scotch quails egg" and cucumber soup were fab. Excellent and would strongly recommend! We like classy restaurants where the food is a bit different, and where you can relax, not pretentious, "look at me" establishments. CARTER'S was spot on.13/06/2013 00:00:00Excellent dining experinceAbsolutely top class service, beautiful food and a lovely ambience meant that our wedding anniversary was celebrated in style.13/06/2013 00:00:00Lovely lunchBelatedly celebrated my birthday with lunch at Carters - lovely food, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, great value and will return07/06/2013 00:00:00If you haven't been, then goYet another wonderful meal at Carters. Nothing is too much trouble for Holly and Brad who ensured my friend with a food allergy had an excellent menu choice. Warm, friendly, delicious and good value, a great time out is always assured.06/06/2013 00:00:00Moseley's Best Kept SecretCarters is absolutely fabulous. All of the food, the surroundings, the service and the value for money lunchtime menu were superb. Carters isn't the cheapest place to eat but certainly is one of the very best restaurants around and at lunchtime is very affordable.29/05/2013 00:00:00Outstanding service & foodUpon arriving Holly warmly greeted me by name and took a few moments to have a chat with me which really made my day. Several times through the evening she came up to me to chat and see that I was Ok (very rarely will you find this quality of service anyware else).
I opted for the 5 course meal for 30 pounds, along with the wine flight for 18 pounds. The quality of the food was absolutely outstanding,
I only got through 2 glasses of wine, as I don't often drink alcohol and I got a bit light headed and asked if I could have coffee instead, to which they kindly obliged. However, the wine that I did manage to drink was very delicious and matched the meals perfectly. I particularly loved the Chilean wine with the Salmon, very zesty.26/05/2013 00:00:00Laid back fine diningThe staff were lovely, very friendly and sincere, with obvious knowledge of wine and food. The small dining room made for a cosy atmosphere, yet conversations still felt private. It was nice that it was an independent, family run business.24/05/2013 00:00:00We love CartersMyself friends and Familey
Love Carters the food is always excellent and the staff and service is always excellent , Holly is always lovely and what more can I say Fantastic !!!!! X19/05/2013 00:00:00Local ingredients well treatedWe loved this restaurant. As soon as we arrived we were asked to chose a table.. that suits us, often tables are allocated and are not always appropriate. Our shared starter was smoked wood pigeon which was delightful, the smoking level was appropriate to complement the rich pigeon. We had Lamb Rump and Cornish Ray,(which we halve and share), both dishes where excellent. desserts of "Sticky Toffee Pudding" in a syrup tin, and the goats milk rice, both rounded off a perfect meal. The waitresses knew everything about all components of the meal, and were pleasant and attentive. The wine list was both varied and affordable. Overall a great dining experience..17/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely lunchGood atmosphere in a low key location, where you are made to feel at home. All the courses were fresh, very tasty and with unusual touches. Superb all round. Wish there were more places with this quality and approach.11/05/2013 00:00:00Sunday Taster menuWasn't obvious on the website that this was the only option for a Sunday evening.
That said, it was a clever and delicious menu and good value for money; clever in that most people, I imagine, would eat the items on the menu. Even so, I was awkward as I don't eat salmon, but it was substituted with the veggie option without any fuss.
We didn't have the wine 'flight' but a very nice bottle of Chardonnay for £18.
Service was friendly and attentive, without being overly so and the courses were well 'spaced'.
We shall go back.05/05/2013 00:00:00great food, friendly and efficientgreat food, friendly and efficient staff and an amosphere of wanting to help.Holly is a star.04/05/2013 00:00:00Fabulous Sunday supperWe dined at Carters for a special occasion and experienced their Sunday supper menu. It was first class, as was the service and the general ambience in the restaurant. We will be returning soon. Thank you to the team at Carters for a great night, with wonderful food.28/04/2013 00:00:00Exceptional restaurantMy partner & I dined here on Saturday night. The restaurant ambience was spot on, very relaxed & welcoming. The staff were very polite & attentive.
We ordered the pigeon starter followed by the beef to be enjoyed with a good bottle of red. We both thoroughly enjoyed these dishes. The sticky toffee pudding, whilst not what I would necessarily call a traditional sticky toffee pudding was delicious. My partner finished off his meal with an espresso which was smooth & creamy without any bitterness, a good coffee all in all!
We felt the portion sizes were good especially when you take into consideration all the extras that get thrown in in between courses, all of which were great!
We definitely will be returning!27/04/2013 00:00:00Eating experienceThe food was delicious. It was a tasting experience. There isn't just one dish I could say topped the others, they all had different elements that stood out and made them unique. Between courses we got little treats like beef dripping popcorn, or prior to dessert blood orange jelly. It really was tasting and experiencing new flavours.
At the end they had made up a plate saying happy birthday with some chocolates to my partner- it was a lovely end.
The only disappointment is the portion sizes are ridiculously small for the price. No amount of quickly treats between courses or fancy methods of cooking can make up for the lack of value you feel on leaving. Eat all the bread they offer and every little treat because you leave feeling hungry.26/04/2013 00:00:00Great findIt's slightly away from Moseley Village so you can easily forget it's there but Carters is a great place for a high quality sunday lunch. I thought £22 for 3 courses was great value considering the quality of the food. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. Very good - i will be back soon!21/04/2013 00:00:00One of the best restaurantsOne of the best restaurants in Birmingham. Definitely recommend for a special occasion. Front of house staff weer delightful and cooking excellent.18/04/2013 00:00:00Sunday lunch at CartersMy husband and I enjoyed Sunday lunch at Carters after arriving back from a week's holiday on Saturday evening. I planned this to extend the holiday mood and to help us forget we were both back to work on Monday morning. Carters did not disappoint!
The food was exquisite and the mood was relaxing but with some added vibrancy.
The service was great and the front of house hostess was attentive without being intrusive of our privacy whilst enjoying the dining experience.
Would we recommend it and go back ourselves??!! Yes absolutely. In fact we booked a table for six for Father's day during our visit on Sunday.
Dawn and Peter (visit on 14.04.13)14/04/2013 00:00:00This is a great restaurant. This is a great restaurant. A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with excellent service, the staff could not have been more helpful. We opted for 3 courses and each one was a delight. My only complaint is that the main course dishes could have included more vegetables / accompaniments. We'll definitely be returning to this establishment!11/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing as always!Myself and my other half came for the five course Sunday supper menu along with the wine flight. All of the wines were excellent, and we really enjoyed the food, especially the chicken with brown bread foam and the textures of chocolate (not served together obviously!). The homemade breads always go down well too, as well as the mackerel pate. Holly is so friendly and welcoming and she always remembers faces which is impressive. All if the staff are attentive without being intrusive - which you can find at some higher end restaurants. The atmosphere is lovely; relaxed but special. I have eaten at Carters on four occasions and have always had a memorable evening. If you have never tried it then I would strongly recommend it.07/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent value and serviceThe food is right up there with the best that I have experienced. Highly recommended.06/04/2013 00:00:00Hoorah!This is our second visit to Carters in the last few weeks and it's great to note that we had as good as a time on Friday as we did before.
The food was delicious and the service was fantastic - everyone was informed and attentive (without hovering).
This is now officially our favourite restaurant in Birmingham and we're already looking forward to our next visit!05/04/2013 00:00:00Carter's of Moseley: A little gem.Really enjoyed our visit to Carter's.
Excellent service and fabulous food.
Especially impressed by the 'surprises' between courses, and the fine selection of teas.04/04/2013 00:00:00Stunning as always! It's getting harded to get in at Carters for Sunday lunch, but when you do, the food is as stunning as always. The vension and the warm chocolate soup were of particular note this time around. Carters, we'll be back for more soon!24/03/2013 00:00:00Birthday bonanzaWith four birthdays in two months we decided to combine and have one joint big blow out at Carters. Excellent idea. The usual friendly welcome from Holly, the maitre de, with a nice touch of giving us a choice of table. All the food was lovely and presented beautifully. The mise bouches were a nice extra touch and they brought my partner and I vegetarian options without us having to remind them. The service was excellent - friendly and informative without being intrusive. All our plates were empty so I know everyone enjoyed each course. And then a special birthday message with a chocolates helped make the night extra special. Not cheap but worth it once in a while for that special occasion.15/03/2013 00:00:00enjoyableWe went for my Mother's 80th and the meal was excellent, service is good, friendly but not imposing and very informative about the food. the food was excellent, loved the free scotch egg! will definetly be back15/03/2013 00:00:00On line booking very helpful. On line booking very helpful. Interesting and varied menu. Great service. Parking not always easy.13/03/2013 00:00:00Lovely, but not substantialThanks for a great evening - the service was excellent and overall the experience for my birthday was great.
The food was excellent and super tasty, but some vegatables wouldn't have gone a miss! The only other constructive critisim I could give, is that it's not clear how small the portions were from the website, and whilst it was fine for me (female), the portion sizes for an average chap were simply not substantial enough. There were mentions of "I should have eaten before I came" and "shall we grab a kebab on the way home?"
Sorry that's not what you want to hear, but it's honest feedback!09/03/2013 00:00:00Carter's - excellent fine diningWe had a lovely evening, the food was memorable with terrific flavours and the wine high quality at a sensible price.
At first sight the menu is only three courses but they serve extra plates between courses. The portion sizes might appear not to be what you expect but at the end of the meal we were all well fed and content. And wow, those flavours. Service was excellent and staff were well informed and informative about what you were eating. One tiny drawback, there was a big table at the end of the restaurant who were enjoying themselves and it sometimes made it difficult to hear.
3 people £157. We spent the same in another restaurant the next day and it was only about 40% as good. Thoroughly recommended.08/03/2013 00:00:00The set lunch menu is goodThe set lunch menu is good value and well constructed across the courses. The linked wine is also well chosen to accompany all of the menu and be likeable for people with diverse preferences. The A la Carte is much more expensive but stunningly tasty (I liked the Mackerel and beef in particular) and there is an impressive beer choice (esp for a fine dining type place).
I've been with wheelchair users and this is particularly well suited. There is one small lip at the entrance but easy parking outside and several accessible tables. The staff's attitude gets the right level of helpfulness without making a point of any difficulties.02/03/2013 00:00:00DeliciousWhat can I say, delicious food, perfectly presented, great service, highly recommended.28/02/2013 00:00:00Impressed by first timeWe eat out quite regularly and have often visited the Michelin star restaurants in Birmingham. This was our first visit to Carters, having been recommended to go by a number of people. They were very accommodating even though we had a last minute cancellation by the guests who were supposed to come, which resulted in us being one less than expected as a party. This was not treated as a problem. I really liked the atmosphere, much more relaxed and intimate than some of the other restaurants in Birmingham. The food was delicious (especially the duck fat popped popcorn and the waygu beef bavette. The wine list had a good selection and the prices were pretty reasonable.
We will definitely go back.22/02/2013 00:00:00Expectations exceededCame here after seeing reviews. Was not disappointed. Service really good. Felt like they wanted to help and were very informative. A bit expensive for every day eating but really good for occasions. I will go back very soon!! I definitely want the recipe for the crab starter!16/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent restaurant withExcellent restaurant with quality food and service. Highly recommended16/02/2013 00:00:00TOP QUALITYCarters is brilliant! Top quality high end food without any pomp or ceremony. Always made to feel very welcome. Staff are young but all very knowledgable. The choice is not huge - 4 choices I think for each course but that's to be expected with the quality and provenance you get. Sunday lunch is a bargain and we will be back very soon.13/02/2013 00:00:00First rate. Wonderful foodFirst rate. Wonderful food - don't be put off by what seem small portions - by the end of the meal one couldn't eat more! The lunch menu is excellent value. The service achieves just the right balance between couteousness and amiability with very knowledgeable staff. This is the third time we have eaten at Carters for special occaisons and we shall certainly be going there again. Highly recommended.13/02/2013 00:00:00Stunning in every waySuperb food, service that more expensive places can only dream about, with an attention to detail that amazed. Unfussy, polite, efficient staff, nothing too much trouble. Impression was they cared, and are passionate about food and what they do. Travelled from Germany for a weekend away, this was worth the trip on its own. Cannot wait to go back.10/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent as alwaysYou're missing a real treat if you haven't been to Carters yet!10/02/2013 00:00:00We had a fantastic dinnerWe had a fantastic dinner at Carter's. Everything was great, from the starter to the dessert. Really great. I would be happy to find such places in my hometown, Paris !25/01/2013 16:00:00Exciting!A really exciting restaurant where Brad the chef is not afraid to try new flavour combinations executed very well. Presentation is superb also. Holly is relaxed and welcoming front of house where nothing is too much trouble. I predict this couple could go far. We will definitely be returning for more!24/01/2013 16:00:00Pleasant surpriseWe booked Carters for our Wedding Anniversay meal based on the the glowing reviews that had been posted, but the sceptic in me always wonders if a place will live up to expectations. However I shouldn't have been concerned, the restuarant, front of house staff and food make this place a hidden treasure, which I will most certainly add to my list of places to eat when we next visit Birmingham. The food is of a standard that you would expect of a high end restuarant, the staff move around with quite efficiency, and the decor is clean and modern, and you get all this for what you would be asked to pay for dinner in a chain restuarant. I just wish I lived a little closer, however I'm sure my waistline is thankful for the distance.19/01/2013 16:00:00Absolutely faultlessPerfect. A fantastic restaurant that must be worthy of a Michelin star. We were making comparison to l'enclume for the food as well as the service. I can't recommend carters highly enough. We'll be back.17/01/2013 16:00:00Another Fine MealWe have now become regulars at this superb restaurant. The cooking is better than at some Michelin starred places, with creative use of the finest ingredients. The service and ambience are perfect - professional, efficient and attentive while being friendly and relaxed.29/12/2012 16:00:00Lunch at CartersEnjoyable and very good lunch for two - set menu provide a choice that genuinely offered choice as far as we were concerned; friendly service without being intrusive and a touch of something extra as this was a birthday celebration
The wine list is good and we were pleased that wine by the glass was of a high quality too
Second time here, and as before, what stands out is the excellent combination of ingredients and flavours coming through in all the dishes we had with something distinctive in each course21/12/2012 16:00:00Excellent as usual! The food and service were as fantastic as always. The food here has imagination and skill, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly and have the ability to make you feel like you are the only couple in the restaurant.21/12/2012 16:00:00
