Cannizaro HouseA place to meet friendsThe new Orangerie space is a great place to meet and enjoy a drink before moving to the restaurant for dinner. The cocktails are a little expensive, but are as delicious as they look. Ask for a table in the new area if you'd like a view to the gardens. As always, the food is outstanding, with some interesting combinations on the Simply menu, and there is a good wine list, with a range of less expensive bottles. The staff are welcoming and attentive, and we appreciated the beautifully iced Happy Birthday with the petit fours.20/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely Sunday LunchWe came here with some friends for Sunday lunch and spent nearly 4 hours wining and dining. The food was very nice, although the crab salad had quite a few hard items it, one of which cracked my tooth a bit. The beef, however, was beautifully cooked along with the trimmings. The dessert was a bit minimalist, but what I expected it to be like. I would commend the staff on not rushing us out, despite us hanging around a bit longer after the restaurant had officially closed to finish our second bottle of wine. All in all a good experience and I would return, perhaps for the afternoon tea next time.12/05/2013 00:00:00Outstanding FoodWent here last Saturday evening and had a simply outstanding meal. The quality of the ingredients, preparation and presentation were first class. Staff very friendly and considerate. Once sat (it took a little while for this to happen but was not a problem as we were comfortable) staff were attentive without being intrusive and the meal flowed seamlessly. We started in the Orangery, moved into the main restaurant, and ended in the lounge for coffee and petit fours - the bill followed us and was spot on. If you have never been to a very nice restaurant before they do things a little differently with regards to seating people, so me being a novice just sat there until eventually we asked the roaming waiter what was going on and he looked at us like 'You can go in whenever, how did you not know that!?', however apart from what i will put down to mis-communication the food was epic, and the waiter we had was a super nice guy. The food was limited in choice, which was pleasing as meant it was all fresh, but more than substantial. Each course was preceded by an amuse bouche, which did amuse. The hotel itself is very nice overlooking Wimbledon Common and the reception and tea room looked very cosy. The restaurant was decorated beautifully with pretty walpapers and chandelier. My mother went for a two course meal which was a very good value at £24.95. A la carte menus were alot more expensive so the set menu was a very good value. We were given a lovely mushroom amude bouche in the beginning of the meal and were even given a scoop of sorbet each before our dessert. These little touches always make the evening special and adds value to the meal. I would love to return to the hotel for another special occasion meal and relaxing afternoon tea.03/12/2012 00:00:00Stylish and deliciousMichelin-quality food on Wimbledon Common. The amuse-bouche was a treat - on this occasion, a sliver of beetroot with whipped goat's cheese and pine nuts - and the oysters juicy and seasoned with chilli and coriander. I can't recommend the lobster & scallop lasagne enough, and the foie gras and duck also deserve special mention.
The staff are professional and always make sure you are very well taken care of. The one criticism I would make is that in the evenings its lights are far, far too bright. It is difficult to relax fully with fluorescent light cascading down upon you, and in such a delightful setting it really takes something out of the evening. I have never eaten here before and found service was very good and when dining on their 'simply wine and dine' menu, excellent value for money.
