Cafe GandolfiFriday 10 May 2013We had not been before and were delighted with what we found. Good service and surroundings and great food. Try the haggis!10/05/2013 00:00:00Had a great breakfast, qualityHad a great breakfast, quality and cooking of food was superb. The black pud and scrambled eggs deserve special credit. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The only issue I had was the length of time it took to get the food, but it is cooked fresh and I was hungry!!!10/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent quality, friendlyExcellent quality, friendly staff, a great experience as usual05/05/2013 00:00:00GandolfiLovely food with great options for my vegetarian dining companion. Service was excellent, attentive servers who were knowledgeable, but not overbearing. Table layout was cramped and affected the overall atmosphere. I had to physically stand up and move in order to let dinners at the next table go to the loo.18/04/2013 00:00:00Relaxed breakfastGreat food and lovely staff in a rustic environment.12/04/2013 00:00:00Fab mealI recently had lunch at Cafe Gandolfi and what a lunch it was!! The food was fantastic in taste and presentation and good value!! The staff were friendly and knowledgable which only added to the meal. I had Cullen skink, which was the best I had tasted in a long time. A special mention has to be made for the creme brûlée... it was so devine I didn't want to speak during eating I wanted to savour every moment! Would definitely be back!02/04/2013 00:00:00A reliable old man on the blockIn a town where restaurants change with alarming regularity, it's nice to know that some things stay the same. Whilst the food isn't 'cutting edge' what you do get is reliable and familiar options, the odd interesting selections from the specials menu, great service and unbeatable atmosphere.10/03/2013 00:00:00Others are betterNice ambience, nice waitress who was attentive. Good knowledge of wine, lots available by the glass, and I liked the way the menu had the wine choices for each dish. I had the Ardbroath smokies for starter. They were very salty. It comes with bread and the bread was fingers of brown toast. I felt these were very bland. Nice fresh bread is so easy to access. For main we had the special monkfish. This was tasty. Could have been a bit hotter and a slight bite still in risotto. Atmosphere nice. Lots of other restaurants nearby, will try a different one next time.09/03/2013 00:00:00Love it!I haven't been to Gandolphi for a while, but as per usual it didn't disappoint. Still all the familiar staples: black pudding with pancakes, Finnan haddie, etc but really lovely Specials too. The Parmaviolet Martini was gorgeous and the service friendly but unobtrusive as usual. Recommended and I can't wait to return soon09/03/2013 00:00:00Four of us enjoyed a relaxedFour of us enjoyed a relaxed lunch. Good buzz. Service efficient, friendly, engaged and helpful. Great range of menu options. Excellent cullen skink though nothing was disappointing.07/03/2013 00:00:00Great lunchCouldn't have been better in any respect. Nothing else to say surely?06/03/2013 00:00:00Great atmosphereA brilliant atmosphere in the heart of Glasgow. The food and wine menu was extensive and all well presented, but I can't help wondering if having so much on the menu erodes the quality of the food.03/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent as usualWe are in Glasgow every 3 months & we always try & come to cafe Gandolfi, even if its just for a Parma Violet martini! Excellent location, atmosphere & food. The trio of pâté is definitely worth a go!!02/03/2013 00:00:00Consistently GreatCafe Gandolfi never disappoints. The atmosphere is welcoming from the minute you enter. Staff are friendly and down to earth as well as efficient and the food always delicious.16/02/2013 00:00:0014th February at Cafe GandolfiWent to Cafe Gandolfi on 14th Feb 2013 prior to going to BBC SSO concert at City Halls which is just across the road. I think a lot of other people had similar ideas because the restaurant quickly filled up. This didn't seem to cause any problems to the staff who very quickly took our order and made us feel very welcome. Food was very good: my only criticism was that the portions were on the large side. No chance to try the desserts. What I liked was that the clientele was very mixed with a wide variety of ages represented which I always feel reflects how welcoming the staff are. This area of Glasgow has many good quality restaurants. However, Cafe Gandolfi is one which I would wholeheartedly recommend.14/02/2013 00:00:00Cosy Sunday NightAlways a great ambience. Perfect location for a Sunday evening meal with friends. Great food as usual.10/02/2013 00:00:00Early Saturday Evening MealCosy welcome, original menu, excellent service and good value for money. I thoroughly enjoyed a post-shopping, early Saturday evening meal at one of my favourite Glasgow restaurants.09/02/2013 00:00:00One of the best eating experiencesCafe Gandolfi is a gem of a place. The food is excellent and the service is attentive but unobtrusive. It really is one of the best places to eat in Glasgow.07/02/2013 00:00:00fantastic restaurantReally loved cafe gandolfi. Food and wine fantastic, ambience lovely and relaxed. Service friendly but professional.
Highly recommended.05/02/2013 00:00:00Costs a penny or two, but worth it.Another excellent pre-theatre meal (a la carte menu) - imaginative and tasty food and very good service. Yes, it's more expensive than many for this purpose, but the food is out of the ordinary. For hot dishes you are mainly dependent on the daily specials menu, but that is no hardship.30/01/2013 16:00:00CG gets it all rightI have eaten here many times over the years and I always love going back. As well as amazing food (...and wine) there is an ambience that I have rarely found which seems to nurture and comfort you and make you feel at home. (For my fellow scots, it warms your cockles)28/01/2013 16:00:00First time eating here for friendHaving sampled the delights of Cafe Gandolfi before, I always held it in very high regard. On returning to Scotland a few months ago, an English friend and myself went along for a meal last Saturday night. My brief was that she wanted a really good Scottish restaurant with locally sourced fresh produce. I couldn't think of a better place in Glasgow! I was not disappointed on my return! I cannot rate this gem of a restaurant in the merchant city highly enough! The food, the wine, the very attentive staff who were all a delight. A completely pleasant evening. I shall return and anyone reading this, take my advice and book a table! You will NOT be disappointed in any way shape or form by visiting this little oasis of culinary excellence!25/01/2013 16:00:00Veggie foodvery good vegetarian food. Curry spices were unusual and flavoursome - not the usual curry powder. Not a lot on plate - but deceptively filling.18/01/2013 16:00:00I love going to Cafe Gandolfi;I love going to Cafe Gandolfi; the atmosphere is relaxed, the service is attentive without being rushed and the menu caters for all tastes with a strong influence of good Scottish seasonal produce. On this occasion my friend & I were there for lunch and a good gossip and we had the delicious but light goats cheese and walnut salad-very tasty! Some coffee and a regretful decline of the wonderful dessert menu (it is January after all!) and all at a very reasonable price.10/01/2013 16:00:00Well deserved .Never fails to please, and well deserves its reputation as one of Glasgow's best places to eat. Great atmosphere, helpful and pleasant staff and very good food. Perhaps not the place to go if you're in a hurry, but for a relaxed lunch with friends it's excellent. (And just as good a place to eat if you're alone). Smoked salmon and pasta dishes highly recommended.10/01/2013 16:00:00Another great lunch at GandolfiI meet a group of colleagues here regularly and we never have a bad meal. Always delicious food, fantastic staff. Great ambience and location. I thoroughly recommend it.09/01/2013 16:00:00Glasgow's very bestI have been going to Gandolfi since it opened in the late 70s: quality is as high and flawless as ever, ambience the same relaxed, charming place to have a coffee and read of the papers or a romantic meal with a partner.
The food is mainly Scottish with a few other influences and is second to none in the city. Friendly and very smart staff always make it a place were you feel utterly relaxed and cared for . Worth coming in just to see the beautiful furniture and artwork. Cannot recommend it highly enough. They make me proud to be a Glaswegian05/01/2013 16:00:00warm atmosphere, great servicewarm atmosphere, great service and great food in a lovely setting02/01/2013 16:00:00Cafe Gandolfi in Merchant CityAmazing food at reasonable prices.
