Diner Reviews
  • "We took our grandson and his partner for a meal after a show and we all had good food, plus there was 50 per cent off. Excellent value. I have recommended it to friends and been many times before and always been pleased"

  • "Always a great stand by - the deals are good value and the well mannered and polite service and linen clothed ambience makes it feel special, even though - this time - it was a swift birthday lunch with work colleagues. Wouldn't pay full price though as the standard prices are somewhat inflated."

  • "Café des Amis was the ideal venue post theatre when you need something to eat quickly and nearby. The service was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and happy to adapt food to our needs."

  • "I really like Cafe des Amis and will always be happy to recommend the service, food and general ambience; I will certainly go again. I do have some comments, though I recognise I am being very 'picky' and this should not put people off but act as a critique for the restaurant. This time we ate upstairs and found it a little too noisey. Also our table was right at the top of the stairs and we found it a little too warm - in the main body of the restaurant the temperature was perfectly comfortable, however. Also, I hope the staff get paid well as they seem to work very hard - rushing around all over the place - may be you need one or two extra to take the work load."

  • "This was OK if you want a fast turnaround and no frills. Food was OK , reasonable steaks. Not the place for a romantic or classy dinner but fine for pre/post theatre as we were."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "It was "OK". Disappointing lack of seafood in the linguine and lots of rocket and not much goats chees in the salad. Tasty but a little disappointing. We reckoned that it was because we were on a deal."

  • "My friend and I booked this for Saturday lunch. We have been using this restaurant for 30 years and it is definitely a shadow of what it used to be. I doubt we will return. The main course scallops and crab risotto - scallops were overcooked and cut in half so included just 2 and a half each. the risotto was sticky and not moist enough. Wine list is limited, Sancerre was not available. Tables are crammed in so it is difficult to have a private conversation. Service was slow so we went elsewhere for coffee. Small children running through the tables and babies crying. Glad we had taken the 50% a la carte offer or I would have rated the value as poor, even so it is barely acceptable."

  • "I've eaten in Cafe des Amis with my friend on Friday. The food was good, but the service was very slow. After the main meal, we were waiting to receive the desert menu for 55 mins and we finally had to stop one of the running around waiters to get one. And after the meal when we were paying the bill the waiter didn't even apologise when we mentioned the super slow service. We should have never been charged for service charge after such a bad service. But it was already included in the bill. There is many much better places in Covent Garden to go to, so I don't think I will ever return to Cafe the Amis again."

  • "I have been here several times and the food is always very good. We had the 50% offer which made it very good value for money. The service is very good; friendly and efficient. Lovely linen cloths and napkins make it feel very special."

  • "We had an amazing dinner. Food was great. Good wine for a lovely dinner out..50% off!!"

  • "Really enjoyed the food and our waitress was excellent - friendly, informative and she knew when to come and when to leave us alone - good value"
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "A nice ambience, but the main came exceptionally quickly and then service was slow after that. The meals were nice, but did feel a little like they had been cooked at lunchtime and kept warm until pre-theatre."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "We arrived to the smell of toilets. Our table was by the doorway to the kitchen, when there were other tables available. Perhaps top table customers get put on the worse tables?? We ordered our drinks, but we had to wait about 15 or 20 minutes before the waiter came back to take our order. Whilst waiting for our food, the waiters were constantly passing our table, nightmare table. Food not bad, but not your normal exceptional French cuisine. We had not long finished our starters when they brought out the main course. Didn't bother to stay for a dessert or coffee. With the 50% of the food bill it was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it if you were paying full price. I have been to few French restaurants in London and they have been superb."

  • "I have been to Cafe Des Amis several times and have always had nice meals. However on this occasion, I was disappointed. The table we were first offered was right by a door leading to the kitchen where we could hear the chef's conversations and also had to put up with a constant stream of people walking past. We asked to be moved and were moved to another table, which was a slight improvement. The main course of duck confit arrived within a few minutes and it felt like it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. While I appreciate that the food was good value, I would be reluctant to return."

  • "Very good as always and excellent value with the 50% off deal. Wide selection to choose from on the ala carte menu"
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "Never disaapoints and is great value on either the 50% off deal or the pre/post theatre menu. Brilliant location near covent garden. Not really any downsides to this place"
    dined on 18/05/2013
  • "I have been to this restaurant a number of times and the quality of the food is very good. slightly overpriced when not discounted but exceptionally good value on the 50% off deal. Would recommend not sitting upstairs if possible as gets very warm!"

  • "ours was a special 'goodbye' lunch and I'd asked for a quiet table so we could celebrate, we were tucked into a corner and had wonderfully kind & patient service as we were not in any hurry and the food was delicous - in fact the next door table declared they had "food envy" over our choices ! and that was before we had the desert special of the day - chocloate fondant - which was spectacular !"
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "We had a lovely pre theatre meal. Partly because the discounts offer such good value the restaurant was busy at 6.00pm. We had a good meal and the staff were very friendly. We have been to Cafe des Amis several times and have been delighted with the standard of food and service at value for money prices."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "Very good value with the Toptable offer, and the ambient atmosphere in this rather small, but nice restaurant made this a successful visit. A nice twist to the dishes made them very tasty, and a bit of a new tasting experience. We recommend this restaurant to other Scandinavian visitors, who will no doubt find themselves in or near Oxford Street when visiting London."

  • "My boyfriend and I took his parents to Cafe des Amis for an early evening meal before taking them to the theatre. I had already previously eaten here, and found the food delicious, and as they are big 'foodies' I knew they'd enjoy it. They both had a starter and a main, which they both thoroughly enjoyed, and my boyfriend and I tried the main and a dessert. The service was friendly and attentive throughout, and we weren't rushed at all despite the restaurant being quite busy. We already have plans of coming back. In particular we would recommend the scallops and crab risotto - by far our favourite dish. We also found the terrine delicious as a starter."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "Food ok, but toilets stink so much it hits you at the entrance to the restaurant."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "We went here for a pre theatre meal booked with the 50% off ala carte menu. Food came out so fast in was unbelievable! Meant we were early to the theatre for once and took any stress out of the meal. Food was good, although the ravioli wasn't amazing. It was very average but not in a bad way. Service was swift, no frills, no fuss but polite at all times. Would have been a bit annoyed if I hadn't had the offer though as think the menu was overpriced."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "We went for lunch and had lovely meal staff friendly the meal was fabulous. The service was just right for us."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Food was nice and the restaurant was very busy. Terrible damp smell as you enter coming from downstairs bar is very off putting when you are about to eat somewherem, we actually considered leaving whilst waiting to be seated as it so vile."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Very nice and well presented food. Reasonably good value for quality of ingredients. The atmosphere is very pleasant also. Would recommend for a good option for taking a partner out."

  • "Had a dinner at Cafe des Amis with friends on Saturday night before going to the theatre. Once again (this wast second visit) , had a wonderful meal and a great time there. The 50% of a la carte menu made our dinner a great value for money. Delicious and lively. Both steak and tuna tartare are worth a try and crab risotto with scallops would not disappoint."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Excellent service and very good food I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant ."

  • "A favourite haunt - and as ever, it did not disappoint. Asked for a quiet table - we had a lovely one at the side of the main restaurant - still buzzing but easy to talk. Delicious food served with the usual friendly efficiency and TERRIFIC VFM with 50% off all food and drink :) Two and a half courses each (shared pud) two bottles of wine - all for under £90. Of course I'll be back."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Had not been to this restaurant, which is conveniently located off Long Acre, for several years. We took some friends for an early lunch so that they could attend a matinee performance at a nearby theatre. The restaurant has had a major make-over but stills retains it's charm and the "short menu" was ideal for pre-theatre, enough choice and reasonably priced, as were the drinks. The fish-cakes were particularly enjoyable, as was the chicken caesar. The service was excellent and all in all this turned out to be an excellent choice. We will go there again."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Having been here before, my friend and I came for a nice catch up dinner, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was really quick! the food was just as good as the last time I went and would go again. It was good value for money and the staff were very friendly."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Had a post theatre meal at Cafe Des Amis. The service was very quick and staff friendly. The food had flavour, but the chicken was overcooked and hard. I little more attention to quality wouldn't go a miss."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Lovely meal at Cafe des Amis in Covent Garden. Food was well presented and tasty. We had the 3 course for £18.50 which had a good selection. I particularly recommend the tiramisu which was amazing. My only slight criticism would be that the main course came very quickly after the starter but that's just a minor thing. Would go back again."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "We keep on coming back to Café des Amis. Perfect central location and reliably good value. There's usually some sort of offer so you know what you're in for and the food is consistently good. The restaurant gets busy and rather noisy, so try and book early if you want a chat, but that's only proof of its success."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Portions small and tables too close together. Toilets dirty."
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "Having visited several times for pre-theatre dinner, never disappointed. Last time had 50% off a la carte offer and good value at this price, but would be too expensive for this type of meal without the discount. However the restaurant has frequent special offers. Recommended."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "We quite regularly go to Cafe des Amis when this group meet up as one of us has particular dietry requirements and CDA always caters for that. Add in a 50% discount what's not to like!"
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Had a very nice meal here. It was the third time of eating at this restaurant and will definitely be going there again."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "I have eaten at Cafe Des Amis on three separate occasions under various offers and have found it excellent value for money."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "This is a lovely restaurant tucked away near Covent Garden tube. Inside is quiet, tables not too close but still a nice atmosphere. The food is always good, with plenty of choice, though you might call it traditional rather than adventurous. Even so, some of the offerings are really imaginative and superb."
