Built circa 1800 to satisfy the thirst of the hot forge masters who were making all the heavy anchor chains for the British Navy and all the passing canal workers on their way with to Cardiff with full loads of Coal and Iron Ore, business was brisk with male dominated ale consumption. This trend continued to well into the mid 1900's. It is rumoured that when Isombard Kingdom Brunel came to visit the Chainworks he was so impressed with what he saw and on securing the deal to supply him he celebrated with an ale in the Bunch of Grapes.
Now tastefully and sympathetically refurbished the Bunch of Grapes offers a warm relaxed atmosphere both in the public bar and the restaurant where the emphasis is on quality, locally sourced foods, ales and ciders.Continued
