About Brigade Bar & Bistro
The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on fire. Located in the old fire station, built following 1861’s famous Tooley Street Fire and leading to the creation of the first London fire brigades, The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is concerned not just with eating but with bringing people together to build a community enjoying new experiences together. While The Brigade, along with the Beyond Food Foundation, offers catering apprenticeships to the vulnerable, cookery courses, cookery schools for the keen and private dining for the VIP-minded, the centre of this fantastic venue is definitely the bar and restaurant. A sensory experience, guests are met with the aromas of tempting fresh cooking on arrival, the gentle buzz of conversation and attractive, modern surroundings creating a relaxed feel. Combining sophistication and rusticity, The Brigade's menu focuses on good produce and traditional British cookery, a handful of classics and sharers adding to the mix.

Brigade Bar & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Poor overpriced food
Game terrine - with gristle. Fish in batter and chips - much more batter than fish. Lancashire hotpot with black pudding, and pan fried King cabbage and cauliflower cheese with crumb - no black pudding, kale rather than King cabbage, veg warm rather than al dente, no cheese, no crumb. Pleasant service from European staff. Portions in reverse proportion to prices.
Great vibe with a social conscience
Brigade had a great buzz and I was really impressed with the vegetarian options. Thank you for the delicious leek and squash crumble! Cheesecake could have had a little more rum flavour to the rum and coconut cheesecake but food was very good overall. The Sauvignon blanc at just £20 was delicious.

Great good, great staff...great experience.
Not the brigade I use to know
The beans I had was raw not finished properly for service.. And the triple cooked chips was stale from the 2nd cook... Not the brigade I use to know.
Excellent service and outstanding food.
Excellent service that really can't be faulted. Great food, small menu but genuinely something for everybody. The fact that it is a social enterprise only makes it better.
It was locked!
All entry doors where locked well passed my table reservation time - with staff inside sat down. Went elsewhere rather swiftly.
Brunch at The Brigade
Can only really comment on brunch having not eaten there at any other time. However had a look at the function rooms with a view to a future booking and they look ideal for varying numbers. Found the staff .delightful and extremely helpful
Acceptable, but nothing exceptional
The service staff were fantastic. At every instance they tried to make sure our experience was right. The ambiance was nice and very clean. The food just fell a little flat. Everything was as ordered but none of it was particularly impressive. The food was just very very ok. Overall wouldn't recommend as the food was a tad boring. Suggest they try make the food a little more interesting and fun.
Good food poor service
The food was lovely - well presented and good portions, however what really let down the place was the quite incredibly poor service. It was just a myriad of mistakes, the wrong starter, we ordered chips with our main, when the waiter 'checked' if everything was ok we told him we were waiting for chips and he didn't follow up, and the chips never came, we ordered a 2nd bottle of wine and after 20mins had to go to the bar to order this ourselves. And overall just waiting for a long time - all for £60 per head. To be honest the only reason we paid the service charge was because this is a social enterprise but for the prices charged we do expect more
Superb food and servuce
The food was outstanding and very good value for money. Everything we had was very well prepared and presented, as well as tasting wonderful. The service was friendly and overall the experience was excellent. I'd definitely recommend eating here and I will be returning.
Great meal with a great friend
I booked Brigade through Open Table. My friend and I had a very tasty evening meal. I have eaten at Brigade many times and never been disappointed (their fries are second to none!).
Pleasant surroundings; excellent service; good food; our party of 5 thoroughly enjoyed dinner.
Wonderful food, accompanied by friendly and attentive service. Couldn't fault it, and look forward to our next visit.
Another enjoyable visit
I have never had a disappointing meal here, or failed to enjoy the overall experience. One guest is wheat intolerant, and the staff were very helpful in advising what she could eat, and even baked special bread for her.

I celebrated my wedding with dinner with 7 people. And, as always the food, service and quality was excellent
Engaging food and service
This is the second time I have eaten here and each time I have been delighted at the impressive food - interesting, but not fussy or pretentious and making the best of some great meat. The staff are genuinely enthusiastic and helpful. Great place to meet friends and chat, drink and eat!
Nice place but very disappointing food
Four of us met for dinner last week, none of us had been to Brigade before but the menu looked great so we thought we'd give it a go. The atmosphere was nice and the venue itself is great. We were seated quickly and the service was polite throughout our meal. Our starters arrived and they were all ok but not amazing, I don't think worth the price. However my main was the low point, my husband and I both ordered pork belly however the two meals couldn't have been more different. His was very nice, normal balance between meat and fat that you normally find with pork belly and that is what I had been expecting. However i cut all the way through mine and it was all spongy fat from top to bottom, literally no meat to be found. I never send food back but i had to on this occasion as couldn't eat a slab of fat. The waitress was polite and tried to explain that pork belly is very fatty, i told her i knew that but i would expect some meat to be involved! She took it to the chef and then came back saying the same thing, i showed her the difference between mine and my husband's and still it wasn't really accepted. I then ordered the cod as a replacement as i thought it would be quicker as most of our party had nearly finished, but it took well over 30 mins to come out of the kitchen. I didn't mind too much as we were just chatting and relaxing but then the cod turned up and was not particularly appetizing. I love fish and am not at all fussy but this just wasn't very pleasant to eat. The bill also came to more than expected at around £150 a couple including wine, but they had taken the pork belly off the bill. I don't think we'll go back which is a shame as the place is great, just the food that needs work.
Nice venue with delicious food!
We went for a team dinner (7) during the week and had a great time. It did not start well as they could not find the booking and due to a computer glitch it had gone through for 7:30AM... but they recovered the situation very well and gave us a private room! The service was very friendly, all waiters were very patient as it took us a long time to choose. Everything we ate from the liver parfait to the pork, the risotto, pudding, everything was very tasty with interesting twists on classics. There was a good choice for vegetarian/allergies. We also liked the fact that this is a social enterprise and a converted fire station. Nice atmosphere, great food, friendly service, very decent price, what more can you ask for? We will definitely go back!
Too noisy which is a shame
Lovely food, very attentive service and knowlegable about the dishes. The greatest shame was the noise from the bar, we could hardly hear ourselves speak. The restuarant was pretty empty and it was obvious that they were not expecting any as the tables were bare. I don't think this sends out a good message to other diners. As you can see by the ratings, I would recommend it and the food was very very good. Unfortunately I am not sure if I would go back in a hurry, unless maybe a weekday when the bar may be quieter?

Friendly and efficient service. Very buzzy atmosphere. Good choice of dishes. Not far from London Bridge, but far enough to be away from the noisy throng of commuters.
No raging fires just a cool blue flame
Brigade is a very cool, relaxed place and recommended for chilled, informal gatherings. The open kitchen and simple decor enhance the easy going atmosphere. Staff also have huddles when changing service times which really tells you that this social enterprise has nothing to hide. The food is good quality, if a little pricey for portion sizes, and service is attentive but not burdensome. Give it a go and sit where fire engines once slept!
Very good food, wine and service. A great venue for an informal dinner.
Excellent food slightly let down by the service
Really good food with veggie options, but the service was a but haphazard with multiple staff not really knowing what each other was doing. Not a big issue but wouldn't be acceptable if it wasn't for the training aspect of the venue.
I found this restaurant at the last minute on Open Table and could not have been happier. When we arrived the bar was packed & the restaurant quite empty but this was just down to timing. We chose a table by the window & it took a while to decide what to have from the menu as there was a great choice. Our waiter was fantastic, making good recommendations & really friendly service. I had Cornish mackerel to star which was superb, followed by shepherds pie, again delicious. Everyone in our party was impressed with the meal & the service made it even better. We are looking forward to our next visit 😀
Food portion very meagre, fish was smallest portion ever seen, chips were uneven sizes so some overlooked, some raw and all greasy. Bread good but interesting flavours. Shame as wanted to like it. I accept the concept of helping the homeless etc but training needs to deliver acceptable results particularly where prices on par with competition.
Excellent for a business dinner. Party of eight, very favourable comments about the (new) menu, food and service. Well done again, Brigade.
Delicious food and wonderful concept
I went to Brigade with a group of friends for a long overdue catchup. I had wanted to dine at brigade for a long time. I love that they work with the Beyond Food Foundation, providing catering apprenticeships for vulnerable people so they have the opportunity of a better future. The service was very good. One friend was running late and they were happy to bring drinks while waiting for her, and then another friend didn't turn up and that was not a problem for them. The food was reasonably priced but particularly good value with the Opentable offer. The food was wonderful. The meat was tender and fell of the bone. The dessert was beautifully presented and looked just as good. And a very nice touch... I was delighted to see they charged me the lower price of the meal I had wanted rather than the one I chose second. I would definitely go again.
Made reservation and made the effort to go there with my family and restaurant was closer.
We ate early. They had the usual background music on when we arrived but sensibly turned it down as it got busier and noise levels increased so we didn't have to compete with it when we were talking. Always a bonus in a busy restaurant these days. The staff were attentive but never in the way. The food was delicious. We had the Risotto, very creamy and lots of it and Fish & Chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quite pricey but with the special 2 for 1 it made it an affordable meal including wine. Will definitely go again. P
You enter through a very noisy bar and then the entrance/reception area of the restaurant is not very well defined and so we were left standing around waiting to be acknowledged by someone. We refused a table near the open boundary between bar and restaurant as the noise was intolerable and we wouldn't have been able to hold a conversation but the alternative we were offered (in a small side room) was perfect. Service was charming and the food was delicious. It's just a pity they can't do something about the horrible noisy bar which threatens to overwhelm and spoil the dining experience!
Enjoyed yet another meal here. Well presented food and full of flavour. A little slow with typing up water for us (maybe because we didn't get any other drinks) but otherwise prompt service for ordering and food arrived with little waiting.
Very accommodating, great food and made ...
Very accommodating, great food and made my 30th birthday special with a free glass of prosecco for all guests.
Excellent atmosphere, food and wine
Great restaurant/bistro, lovely food and wine, even better for the "sustainable" followers out there as restaurant is operated in conjunction with the Beyond Food Foundation. "Beyond Food Foundation works with people who have been at risk of or experienced homelessness to motivate and inspire them to gain meaningful employment."
Great food in central location
A bustling lively place, popular with a 30+ post-office crowd. Food was universally delicious & although I thought the portions were a little small my friend was very full after the 2 courses. I highly recommend the scallops with beetroot risotto - scallops melted & risotto was perfectly cooked. The Crisp Potato Rösti with Avocado & Poached Egg was very good but not as substantial as I'd expect from a main course, veggie or not, & a little steep at £15. Service was attentive and friendly although the first bill brought included a bottle of water we hadn't ordered (or drunk) a glass of wine my friend had already paid for at the bar, and didn't account for the 2for1 offer we'd already mentioned at the start of the meal. I would return!
Satisfying, tasty food
BB&B was a very pleasant meal - some interesting mains to go with some traditional fare... I had a very interesting and well presented main course (after an excellent scotch egg starter) - cooked by one of the trainees - of a platted sea bream with a Mediterranean sauce. It was beautifully cooked but tiny (one small fillet, cut in half and platted; especially compared to the huge hearty bowl of sausage and mash that my fellow diner had). THere's something for everyone on the menu, it's a nice plane and the service is attentive (too much so at times)... but probably not a place ill look out for unless the localality is exceptionally handy again
Tasty food, excellent service
My friend and I really enjoyed eating here. Although they didn't have our booking from opentable on their system, when I showed them the email confirmation, they honoured the 2-for-1 deal I had booked through it. The service was excellent and we liked the ambience. We went quite early and can imagine it is probably quite buzzing at normal meal times. The food was really good - an interesting twist on some usuals e.g. the burger I had was yummy and a bit different. Would definitely go back.
First time and enjoyable. Service and ambience very good as was my starter but let down by my main course,
Great place, we'll be back.
Fantastic service and great food. The chicken sandwich is unbelieavably tasty! I highly recommend it.
