Diner Reviews
  • "Hidden Gem My third visit this year and I absolutely love the place. From the outside it looks like a little cafe and then when you go downstairs this wonderful french restaurant from the 20's appears. Food is good value and the staff are very helpful"

  • "Big restaurant but great decor and a good atmosphere. The staff were accommodating when you could get their attention. The food is nothing too fancy but done well and great value"

  • "Zedel is a charming place to spend a few hours. The décor is olde worlde, the staff numerous and very efficient and the food delicious. Portions could be a little bigger though."

  • "Brasserie Zedel was recommended to me by a friend and I was not disappointed . Everything I imagined from a French brasserie , full of life , atmosphere , it was buzzing. The food was very reasonably priced and delicious . The service was quick and professional . The wine prices were as expected but I'm looking forward to my next visit when I'll be trying the bar and jazz club . A definate must for a fabulous meal"

  • "Great service - where in London can you have a 2 course lunch with a glass of wine for £ 12.00 in such a spectacular setting with attentive yet unobtrusive service. Stylish."

  • "My daughter and I celebrate our birthdays (5 days apart) each year with shopping and a good lunch. Each year I choose somewhere different - this year was fab! Now want to go back to try the Crazy Coqs and Bar Americain - both looked really cool."

  • "Excellent value for money. Hard to go wrong with prix fixe. The chocolate mousse to share is delicious. Nice strong coffee afterwards. Staff always so accommodating (offering extra cushions if you are pregnany or a spacious table if you have a pram). Can't recommend this restaurant enough!"

  • "Maintain its high standard at modest prices. superb decor make it a stand out destination."

  • "The management have got service down to a fine art here. The keen pricing means that tables need to be turned relatively quickly, so sloppy service isn't going to be allowed! It's a great dining room in a great location and for less than £60 for three courses for two of us including a bottle of wine the value can't be beaten."

  • "The staff were rude beyond belief, everything was a problem or we were putting them out right from the start when we had to ask for menus 3 times to the same for the bill. They brought the wrong drinks and has a major problem changing them for the right ones. There is so much going for this place but the attuide of the staff has to change.....at the moment they seem to believe waiting on tables is below themselves to the point it took over our conversation as we watched them all possing."

  • "2nd visit in 9 months, menu seems to have remained the same, but nevertheless it was good food enjoyed by all. Could do without the piano late afternoon. Next time I will ask for a table away from the piano."

  • "I took a friend to Zedel for his first visit. He was blown away by the setting! We both had haddock, which was excellent. Looking forward to my next visit!"

  • "We first came across this restaurant when we went to the Crazy Coq for a show and each time when we book a show the place is booked out so we decided to come and try the set menu which was a very good deal but only steak is offered. the steak is actually made like a burger so it was different what we expected. it was tasty with the fries. Next time i will try the fixed menu. The desserts were not as good as expected but the price was okay. Was excited to try the millefueille but ended up different to what i was expecting."
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "I took a group of friends from out of town to Zedel on a Sunday night. The room of course is impressive -- a people's palace -- and the food, while not exceptional suits most tastes and is very good value. Service was friendly and efficient. Its a great place."

  • "Good ambience, excellent and freindly service and good value. The decor is also unusual."

  • "Had lunch with a friend there on the 2nd of March and it wasn't that great. Food was nice but service could've been better. Maybe because it was towards the end of the service the staff was a bit distracted, but still not a good excuse to take so long to get their attention. Food was delivered fast, which was great, but it took ages for the waiter to bring us the menu and when I had a question regarding the wine there was no one available to talk to, even though there were plenty of staff members, so I just gave up."

  • "This is my favourite place,, but the service was terrible this time :("

  • "Brasserie Zedel has been a favourite of mine for a decent lunch in central London - the atmosphere is nice and the menu has a good selection. The set menu is really good value and has a good amount to choose from including vegetarian options. The only downside is that sometimes service is rushed ie. were asked what starters, drinks, mains and desserts we wanted within two minutes of sitting down and the waitress seemed a nit miffed when we asked for a few more minutes to read the menu. It wasn't even that busy, however, once we were given enough time, our waitresses were nice and attentive so no big problems. Overall, I would recommend this place for a nice lunch, pre/post theatre and even for a cup of coffee and dessert."

  • "Always difficulty to book a table in advance at this restaurant, as both the quality and the price of the food is good. My favourite starter is the soup de poisson. The sea bream was very good. The traditional Parisian decor with lights everywhere, adds a lot to the atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to dine."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "You go to the Brasserie Zedel for the fabulous room in which it is housed. The space is unique in the world and provides a memorable London experience. Service staff are all pleasant and helpful, and pacing of the meal is good. Food is good but not exceptional. The Brasserie offers various options on purchasing wine by glass, pitcher or bottle which helps keep costs within bounds. I would certainly go back, but the experience did not make the Brasserie one of my favorite places."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Simple and static menu. Food is delicious and on this occasion the service was impeccable. The only issue is the restaurant is so vast unless it's full it is completely devoid of atmosphere and feels like a library serving food. Not a location for an occasion but perfect for a simple lunch when in that part of town."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Cafe Zedel was good value as ever. Staff relaxed and nice. Good atmosphere. Food good although un exciting Haddock brandade great as a starter. Wine very reasonable as well. Would recommend for pre theatre and a nice femur to have a relaxed meal with friends."

  • "we went to Zedel for a reunion, arriving after the main lunch rush and were able to sit and chat for as long as we wanted despite it being half term and generally very busy. It is a glorious space built in what was the ballroom of a grand hotel but though it is big it doesn't feel overwhelming due to the decor and separation of tables. The food was good all round. We decided against the rather limited set meal and had 4 different types of food which were all very good. The meal of the day represented very good value. We would go back again if only to reminisce in lovely surroundings!"
    dined on 18/02/2014
  • "We enjoyed a drink in the bar and the food was good, especially the main course. Service was very poor. Our waiter couldn't translate parts of the 'French' menu, we were not all served at the same time party of 4) and hot drinks came cold! Although very buzzy the vast dining room was overwhelming and also uncomfortably hot. Disappointing."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "The prices are good but the portions are small so not so good value as originally appeared. The service was a bit hit and miss - different waiters for each course it seemed but the lady who took our dessert order was definitely the most friendly. Otherwise good for a quick bite or a big celebration meal where everyone has a good time anyway no matter what the food/service is like."
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "You have to be told about this place in the heart of Picadilly! An airy, bright, Art Deco wonder awaits you as you sweep down the stairs to walls adorned with murials and gilding. It's not an overly crowded space but tables are close together so you don't get much privacy. The menu offer plenty of choice; you can opt for the good value prix fixe, or splash out on an array of meat or fish dishes. Service is friendly and efficient."
    dined on 04/03/2014
  • "The staff were interested, well informed and knowledgeable. Service was prompt and attentive. The food was very good indeed."

  • "Second visit in 5 days and this time the food was just as good as previous and I didn't get stung by the wine bill! Excellent service, atmosphere and food."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "Myself and my girlfriend both loved everything. The food was tasty and served well, the ambiance is fantastic. Value for money and well worth a second visit. The brasserie is also in a great central location."

  • "A great evening as always. Superb food and reasonable priced."

  • "To their credit they have not increased the surprisingly low prices since they opended and Brasserie Zedel is superior in almost every way to a much vaunted New York competitor nearby. Definitely one of our favourites for quality French cooking at very affordable prices."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "all good apart from the 'house rose' which evidently doesn't exist so they brought a bottle of rose and charged me £32 for the pleasure. Not clever. Apart from that it was excellent and I shall be back very shortly!"
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "It was our first time at Zedel and we were not disappointed. The decor is stunning and the place is buzzing in a nice way. I had the oysters which were small but delicious. Just the way i like them. The rest of the food is fairly simple but tasty and well presented. The choucroute was perfect and the Croze Hermitage delicious. We stayed for over 2 1/2 hours, taking our time and chatting, and we did not feel like they wanted to rush us to get the table. The prices are extremely reasonable and the overall experience was great. I will be back!!."

  • "Very special and very lively basement dining room near Picadilly circus. Sadly the menu is limited, while not very pricey by central London standards but not great. Food best described as ordinary with the exception of the Creme Brulee which cheered up an otherwise disapointing meal. Such a shame that the food didnt match the ambiance and buzz."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "It's a year since we were last at Brasserie Zedel and it is still on top of its form with lunchtime walk-ins being turned away. Large room, very buzzy, eager staff, great food at excellent value - I just had a superb plat du jour at £12.50. Great location for meeting friends."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Good french brasserie in London. Always a good buzz."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "I have already been to Zedel 3 times now and i would recommend in getting a reservation first before going there. As it does get very busy..."
    dined on 22/12/2013
  • "What a lovely buzzy place filled with people of all ages. The service was great and the food good. Felt the menu was a bit limited menu though. Had a fabulous evening, thank you."

  • "Due to location we chose Cafe Zedel for a girly catch up. It was the perfect place - busy with atmosphere without being packed or too loud to hear yourselves talk, great service and delicious food. I would definitely recommend and be returning!"
