  • "We took a friend for a birthday meal, good choices on the menu and the food, fish pie, sirloin steak and steak and ale pie were all delicious and hot. The staff were helpful and friendly. We sat by the window which was very pleasant."

  • "Booked through website. No hassle. great food great location. Will go again soon."

  • "Great location& decor complimented by a good menu with options to suit everyone, unfortunately all this was ruined by the manner which the manageress came over to ask us to stop our toddler walking around (this was post lunch rush with few tables occupied & I observed him well to make sure he was ok and not causing any problems including towards the staff. He was stretching his legs and walked very quietly to the far end of the room. I'm a very polite person who are very aware of others and would not have allowed my son to run around like a mad child. The irony is that the manageress is pregnant, hopefully she will remember this well behaved 2 yr old stretching his legs quietly on the days when her child plays up in a public place."

  • "Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch. The staff were excellent and we had a great table by the window looking out onto the river. Food was great. Atmosphere was great as it was really busy and their was colouring to keep the children occupied. Would definitely go back again, hopefully in the Summer so we can sit outside."

  • "Was left wondering whether they wanted our booking after I called to make a reservation, and on arrival our party was left to feel the same way - almost as if our arrival had put them out somewhat. Not the welcome we would have liked. Absolutely spectacular setting saved the day, when average food but especially unfriendly service (and not from our waitress) would otherwise have prevented us from ever coming back."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "Ambience good, staff very friendly and not at all pushy. The table was ours for as long as we wished and as we were meeting friends for lunch, it was just what we wanted. The food was good with a reasonable good choice, but I think they could make it even better by offering a specials board as the menu doesn't seem to change and as we meet fairly frequently we are finding it a bit boring."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Glad we booked for Sunday lunch as restaurant was packed by 1pm. We had a table for 2 which seemed to be limited in number and were all positioned just inside a door, which meant we were hit by a cold, windy draught every time someone came in or left. Other than that, good Sunday roast, plenty of it and super mini puds! Will definitely go again and recommend to friends."

  • "I booked The Black Rabbit as a treat for my husbands birthday treat. We were greeted on arrival and shown straight to our table by very pleasent, friendly staff. Unfortunately the food was a disappointment, our family is very fond of a roast dinner which three out of four of us ordered. If you like your roast potatoes crispy, stay well clear, ours looked like they had only been shown the oven and one dinner was lukewarm, this was exchanged for a hot one straight away but it is these things that spoil the experience. Overall The Black Rabbit was a pleasent environment with very good service. The food is ok but nothing special. I do not feel I would recommend to friends or want to revisit myself"

  • "pretty poor food - although the pub is in a great location, looks nice inside and outside and is children friendly, the food is appalling - the children had fish and chips (fish good - chips cold and soggy) and burger and chips - the burger was not home made and goodness what was inside - same with the chips. I had calves liver - mash potatoes tasted as it they were artificial and everything was tepid on a cold plate. Same for my husband's meal who had the chicken. Such a shame so we will certainly not recommend and will post our views on trip advisor. However, the service was really good and the girls were very friendly. We did not have to wait too long for our cold meal..."

  • "What awful food. Processed garbage. Well meaning staff, but formulaic nonsense. Very scenic setting though, by the river. Better to go to one of the restaurants or pubs in Arundel town."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "We'd been told by lots of people in that they'd heard how good the black rabbit was - so it was really nice not to be disappointed! The welcome was friendly, service excellent and food melt in the mouth. I'm looking for an excuse to go back!"

  • "We have visited the Black Rabbit a few times but only ever at lunchtime and in the summer months and have always enjoyed the food, service, surrounding etc. This was our first evening visit and was not dissapointed, the food was fabulous, the staff very attentive, we could have sat there chatting until breakfast but we found ourselves the last ones left, it hadn't been particulary busy but given the fact that we were haveing such atrocious weather people still found it worth their while to make the trek along the lane by the river to go for a meal at the Black Rabbit. Will definately visit again."

  • "We have been great fans of the Black Rabbit for years but after our last meal there - a Sunday lunch - we wonder whether with the recent refurbishment, they have concentrated too much on the great decor and not enough on the quality of the food and it's cooking. As it was a Sunday lunch, three of us chose a roast and one a double burger. The roast dinners were tepid. The roast beef was over cooked (and portions rather small), roast potatoes were not crisp; roast parsnips were still in their boiled state. We did order extra gravy, which was served. Each of us had a small boat of the same gravy so I assume that they use the same gravy whether you have roast beef or roast pork. My friends double chili burger was dry and overcooked too"

  • "We pre-booeked over the Internet a few weeks before hand. We were not diss appointed. Our table was set aside ready for us. The atmosphere and setting was relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were not rushed and did not feel we had to free the table. There was good spacing between each course. The food was excellent and value for money was excellent to. We had brought our own birthday cake for my daughters 21st which the staff all brought out singing "happy birthday"! We will be going back and we will recommend it !! Well done Black Rabbit !"

  • "When we arrived we had coffee which was very nice, then we ordered three large Sunday Roasts, When they arrived they were luke warm. The Yorkshire pudding was nearly as big as the rest of the meal and rather hard. The vegetables were either cool or gave the appearance of being left to stand for far too long. They looked like they were cooked the day before, certainly not fresh. The staff were very friendly and could not be faulted unfortunately we could not say the same about the food. We will not be returning or recommending them in the future. The final thing was that we had a greasy after taste which took some time to clear."

  • "Hi great service, but food was a bit cold. As it was a birthday meal no one wanted to say anything to spoil occassion. Three of us had the Steak and tanglefoot pie and was nice but a bit cold. Great service though. Tony"

  • "To serve up Christmas lunch with two very burnt Yourkshirs puddings!! set the tone for a very poor lunch indeed although two of our party had the steak and ale pie which was said to be ok"
    dined on 21/12/2013
  • "We had an extended family lunch here on Christmas Eve. This gastro pub sitting right beside the river with wonderful views of Arundel Castle looked very promising. And the promise was fulfilled apart from the limited gluten free options for one of our guests. We would have given a 4 star food rating but for this. We will be returning in the new year and hopefully there will be more gf options then."
    dined on 24/12/2013
  • "Our second visit to The Black Rabbit, and it was an experience that did not disappoint. Everything was agreeable and enjoyable and we would certainly return. Special mention must go to the fact that at £50 for three people for an evening meal it was exceptional value, and the toilets were absolutely immaculate (I don't think I've ever seen a pub with facilities of such a high standard previously). Well done to all at The Black Rabbit!"

  • "Lunch for four: Food excellently prepared and well presented. Service superb. The Black Rabbit is an excellent venue for family meals, business lunches, etc in a superb setting. Last year's refit has turned a good venue into a superb restaurant which I would recommend to anyone."
    dined on 07/12/2013
  • "We met an old friend for lunch and it was a very enjoyable experience. We have been here several times and the food and service are always good. Service in the Winter and Spring is quicker as this is a very popular pub/restaurant"

  • "We went for Sunday lunch for the first time. lovely table waiting for us nxt to the fire. Food was delicious but i thought portions were small. I am petite, size 8/10 wth not a huge appetite. I was still hungry afterwards. I felt embarressed because I had takemn my son there for his birthday. On the size of his meal he had to cook again later and had we gone to a carvery we would have eaten more. Also I asm not a fan of food piled on top of each other, pie on top of mash etc. Plus my cabbage was cold. But it tasted nice. Would I go again? Not sure."

  • "Service was excellent and so was the setting. My meal was very good but a couple of them were average namely the Lamb & the vegetarian crumble. Also the sweet selection ( 6 for £9.99) tasters were too bland."
    dined on 24/09/2013
  • "Booked a table for Sunday lunch. Drove leisurely along the river. Although Black Rabbit very busy, still plenty of parking spaces. Having already downloaded the menu we had already chosen our Sunday roast. It was very succulent (beef) and plenty of it but not too much. My daughter had the vegetarian Jalfreze which looked delicious. Careful of the fudge brownies - you wont be able to finish! The staff were very attentive, friendly and cheerful. Worth the drive out from Brighton, looking forward to our next visit."
    dined on 22/09/2013
  • "Day out to West Sussex whilst there's still a vestige of summer including: Visit to Arundel Castle & then before Fishbourne Roman Palace- The Black Rabbit for lunch! I had tried a few months ago while in Arundel but it was closed for refurb: never mind, it was well worth the wait. Heavens, the place must be 8 miles long! They looked after myself & 3 of my grandchildren very well & even though they were understandably busy nothing was too much trouble.Staff were excellent. Only one 'complaint'- from the carpark we had to by-pass several large puddles. (These could be easily filled in)"
    dined on 14/09/2013
  • "Really disappointed, liked the look of this place when visiting the castle & came back in the evening. The staff were great but other than that it was all disappointing we only ordered a main which was on the table within 10 mins and my husband had the duo of pies which looked like a school dinner. Came with carrots mash & red cabbage not served neatly at all & red cabbage had been overcooked. Potatoes no flavour & pies ok. My burger came on a wooden board & served nicely but not much taste in the burger & was glad it came with the blue cheese. Decided not to bother with dessert which meant our leisurely meal was done in half an hour."
    dined on 06/09/2013
  • "Have been here many times for a drink on a warm sunny day and sat by the river with a cool glass of wine, but this was the first time for food. Service, quality and choice of food was excellent and would recommend to anyone. Can't wait for the next time!"

  • "While in or round Arundel the Black Rabbit is a must!"

  • "Booked a table for my mum's birthday lunch. The staff were lovely...the food wasn't worth the money! I didn't expect to get tinned sweet corn with salmon skewer. Perhaps they make a standard salad that they put with everything. To pay £10 for a single skewer that had three small pieces of salmon, some potato salad and sweet corn/tomato salsa felt like a rip off and over the top. The venue itself is really nice and the staff friendly and polite, but there were better places to eat in Arundel. I can only comment on what we ate, other food may well be better value."

  • "My wife, daughter and I visited on a day trip to Arundel- the wetlands centre. Lovely warm welcome from the staff, beautiful location and lovely ambience. Love the Harry Potter boat - my daughter was thrilled to get her photo taken in it. Staff were happy to help. We ordered the Sunday roasts, which were promptly delivered. Beautifully cooked and large portions. And a really good price. The Rabbit is located next to the river and we enjoyed a leisurely 15 min walk back into Arundel. There are some lovely places to eat in Arundel, but the Rabbit is worth leaving the town centre for. It's only a 15 min walk ong the river or a 2 min car ride. The decor is really nice, with discrete areas offering relaxed vs more formal seating."

  • "Table ready and pleasant staff. The waitress (Gemma?) was vegetarian herself and was helpful. Service was prompt and the vegetarian options good. All reasonably priced. However, despite the advance notice, the vegan food request caused some consternation. This seems to be a typical issue wherever we eat and insufficient thought is given to offering a choice of main meal for a vegan or even a starter! Surely stocking soya milk for sauces or for coffee is not too difficult?"

  • "This Restaurant was recommended by friends who accompanied us to see' Barnum' at Chichester Festival. The Black Rabbit was in Arundel on our way home to Surrey. This was a very good choice - the meal was excellent and in spite of it being busy we were served reasonably on time. The ambience of the Restaurant was very relaxed and the outlook by the river Arun was delightful being a lovely sunny evening. I would definitely recommend this Restaurant and would visit again if in the area."

  • "Excellent roasts and friendly service in an picturesque location make this an ideal place to meet and catch up with friends and family."

  • "We decided to go to the black rabbit for her birthday. I booked it online via my smart phone. On arrival my name was recognised and we were seated at our reserved table. Our food was excellent, well timed and we didn't feel rushed. My only gripe was, I ordered a coffee along with a tea at the end, the tea arrived and I had to remind the waitress about the coffee. That said the waitress was friendly polite and very helpful. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "We had an excellent time at the Black Rabbit. It was my mothers 80th birthday and was the perfect place to celebrate such a special occasion. The staff were excellent! My mother is in a wheel chair, so the staff gave us the largest table to accommodate that. They were so helpful and very friendly. The food was excellent and very good value for such a high standard. We would like to thank everyone at The Black Rabbit for such an enjoyable evening."

  • "We had been a year ago and had had the most natural, genuine waitress which was a significant part of choosing to return for a family meal this month (August 2013). We arrived early and sat outside for initial drinks, which was relaxing and atmospheric in the evening sun under willows by the river. When we moved inside, we found our own table but a friendly lady brought us menus and our order was taken promptly. We were in the middle of the room and became a through-way for diners going backwards and forwards, which interrupted conversation. The meals were reasonably prompt, but sadly not great quality and we sat with our empty plates in front of us for quite some time. Not a great experience."
