Diner Reviews
  • "Over priced and expensive. Food was average with only 1 veggie option. Very expensive for what we had... just a risotto. Wouldn't come again"
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "My friend had the avocado on toast, I had the eggs florentine and both had bloody Mary's. Everything was excellent. The pancakes looked wonderful, lots of people eating them! Will be trying next time. Nice atmosphere with the piano playing too."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "very nice idea, nice place, full of energy. a bit to far from the center and not in a very nice zone."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Had dinner at Bistrotheque on Friday night and couldn't fault it. We were slightly late so the staff moved our table so that we had enough time to eat. Food was great as was the service. Loved the contemporary warehouse feel. Great atmosphere too."

  • "Went there on a Monday, restaurant was about half full - so not empty but not too crowded. The waiters were very friendly despite us getting there almost 30 minutes too late. Food was excellent, I had Oysters and Steak Tartare. The Espresso could have been better though. There was even i Coir singing 3 songs on that night which was a nice interruption of the usual restaurant routine."

  • "Dined here on a Sunday evening. Slightly pretentious setting in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere with no restaurant sign outside. They have a prix fixe menu only £17.50 for 3 courses if you order before 7:30pm. Whilst being a limited selection, the food was of high quality and portions were of a generous size. The a la carte menu looked good but very pricy in comparison. Cocktails were also well made. I hope to return soon."

  • "Very good food, friendly nice service! I will come back for sure."

  • "This place is great - I brought my mum here for her birthday with friends. The food was typical brunch food but nothing spectacular or new. Yes creme brûlée was fabulous! All the deserts were. We were a party of ten and they didn't hurry us along which we liked. Pretty cool venue hidden away in back streets makes it all that more fun."

  • "We are so lucky to have bistrotheque as our neighbourhood restaurant and always go there for celebrations - whether it's a friend's birthday brunch, a family meal or a romantic dinner for two, it never disappoints. There's a warm buzzy atmosphere, the staff are funny and friendly and the food is classic and delicious. The diners are chic but this isn't an intimidating dining spot and I would recommend it to anyone."

  • "Bistrotheque is quite a unique restaurant in Hackney. The atmosphere is really great, and the room is just beautiful: from the industrial details, to the beautifully designed centre bar. The food is quite good for the price you pay. I had a roast cod, and although the portion was kind of small (or normal for London), it was really well prepared and very tasty. I would now be a regular customer. :)"

  • "Took my boyfriend as I've previously been with a group of girlfriends. The brunch menu is great! We went for lunch this time though and the options for lunch are not as brilliant as brunch but still good. The interior looks great, very trendy and love the guy that's playing the piano. Will come again for sure. Thanks!"

  • "I am a hufge fan of Bistrroteque and dine rhere at least twice a month. I just wish they would sort out their service on a sunday as its poor. They are always full so why do they not have the kitchen resourced properly and enough waiting staff? The staff are amazing but they are run off their feet and it shows. its a shame that they cannot get this right."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "A great space, good food with attentive staff. Would return for dinner and also just for a drink at the bar. brunch menu was excellent and doesn't finish too early! Reasonably priced, although didn't try any of their wines. Next time...."

  • "We ordered pancakes with bacon, and crab cake with egg. Super fresh and super tasty."

  • "Our lovely waitress was polite and knowledgeable from the off, had fun with us ordering and then brought terrific food. I was out with some friends and we all left saying what a great night we'd had. No questions over recommending Bistrotheque."

  • "I feel very lucky to have Bistrotheque as my local. It's a good solid performer but it also always feels like an exciting place to be. It's got a bit more 'gastronomic' over the years so portions are less robust but equally the dishes are more creative and more luxurious. Bringing the bar up into the main restaurant and slightly reconfiguring the dining room has improved it a hundred fold."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "I've loved Bistrotheque for years but I had a really disappointing time. Rushed and minimal service, a very packed room, and scrimped courses that seemed like they'd also been rushed. It was the first time it felt like bad value."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Food consistently good but very busy took a long time to get our water and the waitrose was extremely rude and unfriendly real shame"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Bistrotheque is a fool proof restaurant for a nice dinner in east London. The food is consistently delicious, the menu has something for everyone and the service is incredible."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "It may have been a very special place few years back with its industrial/minimal look. However nowadays even though it maintains its charm, the food is not so outstanding to justify the quite expensive bill. The vibe is cool, the service was excellent and the people were very friendly."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Very nice place. Modern decoration, very bright, cool staff. The pianist (formerly playing with Placebo) is amazing. The neighborhood is cool. It s s few blocks away from the beautiful Sunday flower market in Hackney. Loved it!"

  • "4th or 5th time at Bistroteque and constistant service and good will never be boring. On the hottest day of the year so far Bistroteque feels like spacious and cool. I had booked a table of 8 and although 4 ran 40 minutes late we were made to feel relaxed and unrushed. Piano player great, food tasty and waitress beautiful and relaxed yet on the ball. Friends from Paris and Madrid suitably impressed"

  • "Difficult to find in a way-too-trendy East London way. Signs are useful."

  • "V charming service. We were unsure how our small baby would be received but I called ahead to check they'd be happy with us bringing a pram and they were very accommodating - clearing a small space out of the way at the end of the table for us. Food was delicious, the prix fixe menu was good value, and our Belgian friends eating with us even commented on how good the chips were! Great evening!!"
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "A very unusual restaurant in Bethnal Green and somewhat difficult to find but it was worth it. The cuisine is outstanding and dishes are prepared with care and imagination. The service is also of a very high standard. It is somewhat expensive but this is in many ways justified by the superb level of cuisine."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "The Bistrotheque had a great buzz to it throughout the evening with a relaxed feel to it. The food and service were both very good, and the cocktail I had was terrific."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Expectations were higher: Cocktails little too strong. Meat good, but not best quality. Noisy atmosphere, but tables not that narrow-packed as expected from other's reviews/images on internet. However, would rather try new restaurants-tips than going there again."
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "Very cool location, friendly staff, good veggie options,"

  • "Went with a friend for a catch up and some good food! The food didn't disappoint oyster where very tasty and well opened and presented Soup was full of flavour and the beef tartare was done extremely well with bags of flavour and a great texture of beef The selection of cheese on offer wasn't any of my favourites but was ok and went well with a glass of port!! Will return in the future as quit nice vibe going on in the room and have recommend to a few friends already! And forgot to mention the pianist he was very cool with the tunes!!!"

  • "Went to Bistrotheque for Sat Brunch on our daughter's Birthday. The decor, people & atmosphere were "very cool"; The service friendly & the menu interesting. The portions were on the small side. My daughter works in food marketing & tweeted the dishes. Immediate replies all commented on "mean portions"! My squash salad & avocado on toast were as advertised.... nothing fancy. Amber's "full English" was fine but smallish. Larry's fish cakes consisted of one fishcake- more like a starter portion, but tasty. We were seated next to the piano player. Whilst music was ok, volume was immense, even the manager commented. Wouldn't be tempted to return as it is quite far from us, but daughter impressed by ambiance & vowed to try a dinner there soon."

  • "The restaurant is located in an industrial complex neighborhood with a hard to locate entrance. But once you get past that, all is well. Good food served with attentive service."

  • "We visited Bistrotheque for brunch on Saturday. The service was great - very smiley and friendly. The food was excellent, I had the black pudding and duck egg and my partner had the cooked breakfast both meals were delicious. The coffee was very good too!"

  • "Down a side-street, in a converted warehouse, with a piano playing lounge-i-fied versions of pop classics and the most perfect poached eggs."
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "We used to go here a lot and loved the bar and dining area. After along break we went again and the menu was boring, the bar has been consumed into the private dining room and the whole experience was average. I would go again if in the area but I wouldn't make a special effort"
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Starters :- Terrine was good but served too chilled and a small portion given the price Spanish onions were delicious Whitebait nice and spicy but could have been crisper Steak tartare was well done but let down by frozen chips - for these prices we should expect hand cut fresh chips Chicken was juicy but too greasy with the bacon. Sprout tops well cooked but ruined with too much bacon and chicken fat Desserts were good Atmosphere service and wine were perfect. The food should be better than it is for the price and reputation of the place. A real shame. There are better places to eat in the east. That said probably a great spot for brunch as eggs and bacon are pretty much a risk free dining option."

  • "Bistrotheque is very nice for brunch for the atmosphere, the food and the piano music in the background. The blueberrie pancakes are the best."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "Good piano player, nice atmosphere, real shame about the food. My burger was raw and inedible, and came with a whole array of things that were not listed on the menu which I don't eat (mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato) Menu says it comes with pancetta and caramelised onions?! A side of avocado is £4.50 (for half) which is a lot, and it was covered in black pepper which I specifically said I was allergic to. When I sent it back, they offered me avocado on toast instead as 'it was already ready'... Their saving grace was that staff were welcoming and attentive, and did not hesitate to remove items from the menu that we'd sent back. Ultimately, we were very disappointed."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "I have been to Bistroteque a while back and I thought it was nice to celebrate mine and my partner's anniversary together there. The food is delicious and tasty, the staff are pleasent and welcoming and always reassured that if we were having a good time and pleasent experience. The only thing I knocked down is the ambience as there was no music to be played to take off the slience of the restaurant but otherwise can not fault it what so ever. Me and my partner will be going back again with some friends and fmaily to dine there again!"
