Bistro UnionEnjoyable English QuirkinessThis was a nice experience, very friendly & attentive staff, we enjoy the quirkiness of the restaurant with its 'back at school', England in the 70's ' theme. Food, good choice to be had from the menu and some additional specials. The fish dishes we had were presented well and right portion for lunch. Wine, again a good selection, nice to see a wide selection of whites as this restaurant had. Crowd, a few 'Yummy mummies' with sprogs, but not to a point of distraction like it is at The Albert, mainly pleasant types, Clapham crowd.12/05/2013 00:00:00Early evening treatAn early Friday evening dinner for 2 at Bistro Union. We were the only table there at 6:30 but by the time we left, every table was taken, so booking is higly recommended! The food and service were brilliant. The menu isn't huge but in a way that's a good thing as you can pretty much guarantee everything on there will be cooked well. A wonderful way to start the weekend.10/05/2013 00:00:00Midweek dinnerA lovely midweek dinner with a friend. The decor and menu were brilliant, the fish pie in particular was outstanding. The attentive and charming service certainly added to the experience. Would definitely return!18/04/2013 00:00:00Fabulous local restaurantA very delicious dinner on a busy Saturday night. Noisy and buzzy but not too much. The starters of goat cheese curd and beetroot and mussels were very good. The mains were a juicy rib of steak with amazing fat fries and fish pie which was great. The rhubarb crumble was excellent. The small custard brulée less so - a bit shrunken in the small dish. Cheerful and efficient service. We drank different wines throughout which were all recommended and worthy of such.
Definitely go again and will recommend.06/04/2013 00:00:00Great food as always!I have been to Bistro Union 3 times now and have always had excellent food and service. The portions are very generous so I haven't yet managed to try a dessert, maybe next time! I also want to try their afternoon tea and bar snacks. A great local restaurant and a worthy little sister to Trinity.06/04/2013 00:00:00Always start with the bar snacksThe menu is obviously great but you could just work your way through their daily bar snack menu. All of which are very well priced and delicious! Tap in to seasonal treats as well as great British classics with a twist. The sausage and sage puffs are a must as well as mackerel if they have it.
Also can highly recommend cocktails. I had the rhubarb gin and now don't know what else ill be able to drink this summer!05/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent value local restaurantA party of six, on a Saturday evening, we found the food to be very good, right from the tasty bread sticks (highly recommend), through to the entree and dessert, and it was excellent value. The service was friendly and helpful, making suggestions on pre dinner drinks and accompanying wines. the atmosphere is equally relaxed and friendly, lovely interior and would be appropriate for couples, groups and families alike.30/03/2013 00:00:00Bistro Union - Local GemWe had dinner at Bistro Union, Abbeville Road in Clapham on Friday evening, after trying to get a table for a long time, and it certainly lived up to expectations. The service is great, the food delicious and the venue is very nice. We will definitely go back soon again.22/03/2013 00:00:00Sausage and sage puffs - the best!Great local restaurant, well done comfort food, with really excellent service. I will definitely go back again, in fact I may i have brunch there this weekend :)14/02/2013 00:00:00Local Gem - Bistro Union ClaphamI have been wanting to go to Bistro Union on Abbeville Road in Clapham for some time, but it has always been fully booked / too busy to get a table. This is certainly a sign of a great restaurant - and I can only agree that it is. The menu is seasonal with some interesting choices, the service is great, and it has a local feeling. I had the best ice cream in a long time as a dessert. Will definitely go back.27/01/2013 16:00:00Good food, nice atmosphereGood ambience, polite service, great food and it has set menus in the week that are very good value. It has a modern british menu and gives you option to try less common dishes, which I love.21/01/2013 16:00:00Dinner on Friday before ChristmasDinner on Friday before Christmas - restaurant full and buzzing, as expected, but the staff were still friendly, helpful and cheerful. The food was very good, our starter of rare roast beef came with crisp watercress and a delicious home made horseradish cream. I had mussels with chips and mayo (enough chips for 2!) to follow and my companion ate gilthead bream with crispy roasted cauliflower, but we were sadly too well fed to manage more than coffee to end with.20/12/2012 16:00:00Bistro unionA fantastic restaurant, with a wonderful atmosphere as well as being exceptionally good value. If you want a great meal out, but don't want to spend a fortune, you can't go wrong with Bistro Union.20/12/2012 00:00:00Bistro UnionThe food and service were great - the staff in particular were very friendly. We had pre-dinner cocktails at the bar which were great.10/11/2012 00:00:00Top serviceGreat venue, we actually chose to give up our table to sit at the bar which we felt allowed us to be more involved with the dining experience. Excellent food, toad in the hole was enough for food and quail in a box was fun! Head waiter Craig couldn't have been more affable. A +++++26/10/2012 00:00:00Great addition to Abbeville RoadBistro Union did not fail our expectations. Delicious food, interesting menu, great wine list. The bar food concept is good fun, next time we want to sit there rather than at a table! The restaurant was busy with a nice neighbourhood buzz. Recommended.14/06/2012 00:00:00First trip to Bistro UnionFirst trip to Bistro Union - and BIG fans of Trinity - so expectations were high for Adam Byatt's new venture.
Loved the place. Very relaxed and informal... Food good, rather than knockout - but the whole place and experience has a great buzz about it. Service excellent
