Bingham Ratings and Reviews
Must have changed chefs!
I used to love the Bingham and always looked forward to taking friends there for lunch. I don't know what's happened as I have not been there in over a year. The food was terrible! Tasteless to say the least. The dessert could have been put together by a kid. I don't think I'll be going back for a while. What a shame!

When you book to dine at a nice restaurant you expect the full experience the place has to offer. Unfortunately we were denied access to the garden due to a pre-booked private function. On a Friday evening one would expect the hotel to be more accommodating to all their guests. The mains were good, but desserts were a let down. Overall, OK experience but not good value for money I think.

Portions were perfectly sized. Staff were polite & attentive.
The roast beef was actually quite tough and definitely not medium rare, but everything else was great. The wine, service and overall feel of the place (we sat outside on a very sunny afternoon) made the whole experience brilliant
Excellent food and sevice, but you pay accordingly
Reserved private parking for £5 just across the street. Excellent service and wonderful food from start to finish. Very nice champagne to start. Good wine list but overpriced. We reserved a table with river view and the ambience was lovely... until 2 groups of 5-6 people arrived and made it almost impossible to have a proper conversation between me and my wife.
Good but not outstanding
We had not visited the Bingham for a few years. We booked on the day so had to take a table at 7 pm. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks on the terrace overlooking the River and the gardens which was wonderful. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we went through and although it filled up during the evening, the restaurant lacks atmosphere which is a shame. We enjoyed the food which was very well presented. The service was good if not a little intrusive with constant filling up of wine and water glasses. We would rate the restaurant as worth revisiting even if it did not meet the high expectations it aspires to achieve.
A very tasty menu that changes regularly with a good variety to choose on each course. Staff are attentive.
An excellent hotel providing good old world stand
An excellent hotel to visit for lunch or evening meal. Not always the case. The staff are extremely courteous and thoughtful real old world standards.
Country House feel virtually in London
Excellent dinner. Imaginative menu, well presented, excellent value
Lovely weekend lunch
Excellent lunch set menu. Wines very pricey though so with drinks the bill adds up high quickly. Lovely setting and good service.
Fantastic service and food!
The Bingham is a fantastic restaurant with outstanding service and "Michelin Star" quality food. Although they don't currently hold a star, I suspect it's only a matter of time before they are awarded one again. We often go here for special occasions to dine, but also for less formal events to enjoy a drink in the bar or on the small terrace.
dreadful customer service
Booked the Bingham for a birthday treat - left before we got as far as ordering food - not that we were ever asked. Appalling customer service in both bar and restaurant. Bar staff inattentive, disinterested and slow. It took 15 minutes to get a drink , the order was wrong and had to ask for food menus. Eventually made it into restaurant (had to ask to go through to table) again completely disinterested staff who managed to provide some water, then a second waiter appeared to again ask if we wanted water. No one in the least bit interested in us - decided to leave. Can't comment on food - never made it that far.
Summer evening on the terrace
Wonderful evening sat on terrace enjoying the tasting menu. Great evening and attentive staff with wonderful food

It's a beaut location but feels dated inside and food is style over substance.
Our evening at the Bingham started poorly but I'm please to say it got a while lot better. we arrived about 10 minutes after our booking time and asked if we could have a drink before sitting at our table. we were told that we couldn't as they were on a tight schedule. We therefore went to our table and asked to have a drink there. It then took nearly 30 minutes before we were served a drink and during this time we saw the waiters give us dirty looks and ignore us. This seemed very odd as it was about 25% full. Once we got our drinks and put in our order things got a lot better. The service from this point improved considerably. The food came in good time and was absolutely delicious. This is a great spot for a special meal. we will definitely go back and hope that our experience at the start of the evening was an unfortunate blip.
Poor service poor food
We waited 30 mins for our drinks to turn up and the food was pretentious the Gin smoked salmon just took away the taste of the salmon and the Belly of pork did not look or taste attractive full of white fat with no colour on the meat. My friend asked for plain grilled Fish but it had been soaked in a salty bacon sauce and it was sent back as too salty. This was my first visit and was so disappointing. When the waiters came to the table they were very polite. The garden and view was fabulous.
I chose this restaurant for a special family meal, based on the reviews and the fact that it was close to the river. On arrival we ordered drinks and the two men on our table were told there was only a few beers to choose from. They chose a beer but had to wait 10 minutes to be told that this beer was also not available. The menu choice was ok but not perhaps as much choice as there could have been. We also chose some wine for the dinner but were told once again that our wine choice was not available, the wine waiter was almost trying to push his advice on us regarding which wines he would suggest which we felt indicated that they didn't probably have the full selections of wines available. The ambience in the restaurant is quite cold, we had asked for a seat by the window but told this couldn't be accommodated for, even though there were spare tables. There was a mix of families, friends and couples but also a mix of very formally dressed people (including our table) but also some others in jeans and t-shirts which made the experience feel not as special. The service of food was extremely slow and very cold. There were plenty of staff around but they were not friendly. The food itself was disappointing considering the price, we don't mind paying these prices but expect the quality and skill of the chef to be shown in the dishes and it just wasn't there. I would say it is trying to be Michelin standard but falling far from it. We finished with a dessert to share (only one dessert really took our fancy) and coffees. The best part of the meal was the petit fours (they were very nice!). The bill came to quite a hefty sum for four of us and we left feeling quite cheated. Had the restaurant, service and food been up to standard we would have happily paid this or even more but we just felt really let down. Overall I would suggest against going to this restaurant, it may be ok for lunch or afternoon tea but we were really disappointed with our dinner experience.
Food amazing, great place, but very slow service
We had a very good time at Bingham, the food was amazing, very good taste and very nice to look at, our only issue was that the service was very slow even though the waitors was very nice. We didn't take any desserts even though we wanted one because we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes. A wedding was happening at the same time in another room, which might have been the problem. Besides all that, atmosphere was great and every thing was perfect, love the place !
Lovely summer evening
Thoroughly enjoyable evening overlooking the Thames. The service was good and food excellent.
Most friendly service ever (plus delicious food!)
With idyllic riverside views and a mouth-watering menu, we had hoped (expected even) that we would be in for a nice experience, but what really stood out above all was the exceptional quality of the service. From the two waiters, to the wine waiter, to the guy who moved us out onto the terrace for our dessert and then relocated us back into the bar for cocktails, to the brilliant barman, to the lovely ladies greeting us, all the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. It's an upmarket (and expensive) place, but without any air of snootiness whatsoever. Maybe we were just in a great mood ourselves and/or happened to catch them all on a great day, but it genuinely felt like they were the kind of staff and with the kind of set-up that means this is their default level of excellence. And friendly in a good way, not in an overbearing family trattoria kinda way (which can also be nice too if you're in the mood). And not in an obsequious Pretty Woman clothing store manager kinda way either. Pitched just perfectly it was. Decor's lovely - nice bright dining room, quirky bar, lovely terrace. The food was delicious (even the bread and butter was probably the best we've ever had), made all the more so by them describing what was in each of the dishes (but without seeming like those waiters at the beginning of American Psycho). Definitely want to go back with looser trousers to try the Tasting Menu. Wine Menu is enormous (of course), and not the easiest to navigate, it has to be said - but that only gives you another excuse to call over someone fantastic to help you out. And the chef, who we didn't meet, was more than happy to accommodate our slightly off-piste requests. Is that everyone? Hmm, even the loos were nice. The hotel (and its great little riverside garden) is definitely now on our list for future functions and family celebrations too. Awesome. The end.
Perfect for a special occasion lunch
The Bingham has a fantastic location right on the River Thames, unfortunately the weather was not very good on the day we visited so the terrace wasn't open, but the dining room was very nice - lovely art deco chandeliers and mirrors, yet it also felt relaxed and informal. We arrived a little late for our reservation due to traffic, but the staff were extremely courteous when we called to let them know and they were also very friendly and helpful throughout lunch. We ate from the set menu, which is excellent value for the standard of cooking. The desserts were particularly impressive and there's also a good range of wines available by the glass.

Long delays in bringing wine and food courses. Then asked to move us to the bar before we had even finished the dessert!
The setting is fabulous with a dining room overlooking the Thames. however service is rushed and food comes in very small portions for very high prices. We were also surprised to see money added to our bill for charity which we hadn't approved off. all in all a disappointing experience.
The secret menu choice, with 6 mystery dishes was of Michelin star standard. Delicious. The view of the river plus decor makes this restaurant just gorgeous.
Basking in the sun
Spent a pleasent 3 hour lunch Saturday afternoon out on the terrace watching the world go by . Food and service was fantastic , a hidden gem away from the crowds by the green .
Beautiful dining overlooking Thames
Lovely dining room - actually two adjoining rooms so even when busy it still feels calm and relaxed - with great views over the river. We went on a sunny summer evening the room was flooded with light. The food is quite simply delicious and one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in some time. Each dish was well crafted and flavours carefully put together so each mouthful was a delight. The menu seasonal and local and designed to please real customers rather than the masterchef team. The service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive. Another highlight was the very well thought out wine list, full of well chosen wines to match the menu and suit most tastes.
Was OK but not great. Pea soup and haddock risotto both very good. Roast beef was soft, the sort of texture you get with sous-vide cooking rather than roasting. Dessert portions were so small they were almost invisible. Wine was very nice.
Lovely view over the Thames with well-spaced tables. Friendly and professional staff who were attentive without fussing. Good choice of menus: this visit was as perfect as the last. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. Faultless. We had a lovely lunch and will be back again soon.
Great location, great food, great service
Impeccable service, beautifully prepared and presented food and a very pleasing location. The Bingham represents good value for money because when you get the bill, you're happy to pay it. Highly recommended.
Booked dinner as an anniversary celebration and immediately on arrival staff were friendly and helpful. Had a drink before dinner and the cocktails were amazing. Granted it was a week night and not very busy, but the service we received during our meal was outstanding with our waiter recommending a fantastic wine. The food was really wonderful and presentation was flawless. We even received and additional anniversary dessert at the end of the meal as the staff had taken the time to find out the occasion. I cannot rate the staff here highly enough, every minute of our experience was very enjoyable. I would definitely like to return in warmer weather and sit outside over looking the river.
Dined here for my girlfriend birthday, just let them treat you, they know what they are doing down there! Outstanding food, service and atmosphere! We had the six courses mystery menu and every course was a joy for the mouth, great great great, well done Ricardo and team!
Another brilliant visit to The Bingham. Food is back on track after a slight dip following Shay's departure, with great vegetarian options too. A lovely long lunch on the balcony in the spring sunshine, looked after by the adorable Alex who deserves a massive pat on the back. My only criticism is that cheese should never be served straight from the fridge, it used to always be on a trolley here and that needs restoring.
food didn't match up!
ill forgive the nice waiter for spilling my friends water and glass of champagne on arrival. These things happen! I had read bad reviews about the service but to be honest apart from slightly frosty desk lady the staff were very pleasant. No it was the food that disappointed! I had Eel which was ok nothing mind blowing. Then beef at £25 which came with one kale leaf an ordinarie sauce and was over cooked and chewy. The puds were lovely however and the setting fabulous! Maybe the chef was having an off night or I chose the wrong thing but at £190 for two I expected perfection..then again maybe that just afforded me the view. The bar looked fab so I would return for a cheeky cocktail or two but probably not to eat unless someone else was paying!
set lunch excellent value in gorgeous surroundings
beautiful day to be by the river on the terrace, service was charming and efficient. Set lunch provided three choices for each course - we had ravioli and the pork for mains and both had the rhubarb dessert. Perfect portions for lunch, small but not mean. Presentation was superb.
Fantastic, as always
Their Market lunch menu is fantastic value and service excellent. Highly recommend a long and lingering lunch to enjoy the ambience and admire the river. A special treat in Richmond.
I was bought our wine with meal experience as a retirement present by colleagues from work. It was a beautiful evening and the resturants views over looking the river at sunset were stunning. The waiting staff could not have been more attentive. The meal culminated in the staff bringing a desert with the words "congratulations" spelt out in a sauce. It was a very thoughtful touch which I very much appreciated. It was a lovely gift and when I can afford it or we have another special occasion I would love a return visit
Delicious food, fantastic service and beautiful views of the river. A very delightful and reasonably priced lunch!
Great Easter lunch
My husband and I eat 5 or6 times a year at the Bingham and generally love it This lunch was superb and every course delicious. I am so glad the chef has stopped the weird experiments with in particular the desserts. This Heston experimentation marred two recent dinners and were somewhat nervous - but no need. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.
Fabulous food and ambience as always
We regularly return to the Bingham, just because we are never disappointed. The food is very good with a regularly changing, seasonal menu bringing innovation and freshness to the table. The service is outstanding, with friendly staff always happy to anticipate your needs, yet never intruding your party or company. The Bingham is like a central London hotel placed in the suburbs and peaceful riverside idyll. It doesn't have to cost the earth either, with the Market menu offering fantastic value at £15 for two courses...cheaper than a pub lunch in Richmond, what's not to love?!
Lovely lunch on the river
Hidden away gem, with a beautiful bar for pre/post lunch drinks. Such a beautiful setting overlooking the river. The food was wonderful and the set menu was such good value too. The service was attentive and friendly. Will definitely return.
