A word from Benihana Chelsea
An always popular restaurant on the style-forward Kings Road in London’s Chelsea, Benihana offers an exciting take on Japanese dining. A concept originated way back in the 1960s over in the Big Apple, Benihana brings together food and performance, pioneering ‘eatertainment’. Ideal for families, Benihana is sleek and stylish with a modern interior, but chances are you won’t be paying much attention to your surroundings – most diners are too busy being charmed by the tableside teppan-yaki cookery which sees the chefs create real drama before your very eyes. In addition to the delicious personally created dishes cooked and served at your table, Benihana also offers eat in and lunchtime take away sushi. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We had three generations in a private room and the group was not disappointed: the chef's performance was entertaining; the food was delicious and the service was attentive. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it for a memorable meal, we will be back!"

  • "If you like good quality, tasty food, then Benihana is the place for you. I started eating at Benihana over 30 years ago at their Swiss Cottage branch and the food is as good today as it has always been -Benihana chelsea is cosy with really friendly and experienced chefs. Great for for family occassions"

  • "Went for my birthday with the family. Chef was very entertaining and had us all laughing. Good fun. Food was tasty, but if not on a deal I'd imagine it would be very expensive."

  • "6 of us visited Benihana Chelsea on Mothers Day via TT and had a really lovely meal. The Chef was great and did good tricks, the food was yummy and the cocktails went down a treat too. It is quite pricey but good fun. The restaurant was very busy. Oh yes and they took a photo of us all to send us off with a Mothers Day Photo souvenir which was a nice touch."

  • "Honestly, I was having a great time until the chef accidently threw a prawn into my girlfriends drink. But when they didn't instantly replace her drink and I had to ask 15 minutes later it totally ruined my mood and the entire meal. Everything else was great but customer service has to be at the top of the list, and it was appauling."

  • "We took a table for 7 people and had a special mid week offer 6 course set menu, It was delicious and very generous with an excellent selection of meats and fish for the hibachi hot plate. Our chef was full of enthusiasm and provided us with great theatre . A fun evening out."

  • "As most reviews have mentioned the "show" is very entertaining and great to experience. The fact that you share the area with others means going in a big group is worthwhile as you can all enjoy the experience together."

  • "Really nice food and drink. Get there slightly early though and enjoy a cocktail at their bar before the meal to make the most of the atmosphere"

  • "always good fun in benihana - good and a tepanaki show! you do come out smelling a bit of food, as your next to the grill but so what - the food is worth it! :)"

  • "Tempted back to Benihana's by the TT special offer we went on a friday evening. The food, the restaurant decor, ambience and the theatrical chef did not disappoint. My 11 year old daughter was entranced. The 6 course meal was good value for money and the prawns was especially juicy and flavoursome! Service was friendly and slick. We were in and out of the restaurant within 2 hours which was great for our schedule. We would recommend for large parties and families."

  • "Benihana in Chelsea was not impressive; nobody at the door and then we were just told to sit down; nobody checked our reservation and we were just waiting to be seated for at least 15 minutes . The food was advertised as a 7 course menue. What we got was cold soup, a salad with prawns, a main course and a single ball of vanilla ice cream for dessert; which did not fit in any way with the Japanese scheme. water took a long time @ nearly £5/bottle; when I asked for a jug of water afterwards it did not arrive at all and only got some when a waitress went past our table carrying water for other diners that is could quench my thirst. Would never go again. It is overrated and even at the offer price of £29/head too expensive"

  • "Our chef "Luke" was very entertaining, sharing with a family took somewhat from the romance but overall it was thoroughly enjoyable."

  • "Even having booked the Xmas special lunch, the staff were unaware that it was available. We stuck with the main menu. Although service was good, we felt that we were rushed at the actual meal as last orders were 3pm and we had booked for 2.30pm and we were the last ones in the restaurant at 3.30pm, appeared very quiet for pre Xmas week. Compared to some other tables the "show" put on by our chef was not as good and could well have been because he wanted to finish, disappointing my young daughter who had expected slightly more. Overall though, food was good."

  • "I went there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and was quite disapointed with the food and service. It was overpriced for what it was and i will not go back again."

  • "Have been before and loved it. The whole concept of the cooking being done in art form with great humor from the chef makes this meal even better."

  • "We took our teenage daughters here for a birthday dinner and it was great fun. Lovely food and such a brilliant overall experience."

  • "At this restaurant, you are paying for the theatrics of having the food cooked in front of you. The food itself was extremely basic. We ordered the beef steak and the tuna steak. The chef simply seared this on the hot plate and sprinkled a lot of salt over it - nothing I couldn't have done at home. The quality of the meat was good enough. As part of the performance, the chefs throw their utensils in the air and fiddle around with them....unfortunately our chef kept dropping his, along with some of our food. Not very impressive. Unfortunately the service wasn't much better, our drink order was forgotten twice and service in general was excruciatingly slow. Overall it was just an enormous rip off."

  • "i been in this restaurant for the first time with my girlfriend and i ll absolutely come back. maybe they are a bit short of staff, but the only waiter was very lovely. the amazing thing is to have the chef at the table which cook at the table for you and he was really nice to see and a such nice and funny (in a good way) person. very nice night. thanks"

  • "We enjoyed our evening, but you don't go to Benihana expecting really great Asian food, and it was as expected. The South African Sauvignon Blanc was excellent, but expensive."
    dined on 27/08/2013
  • "Benihana's is a great restaurant. The chefs are engaging and entertaining however I do feel the food is a little expensive vs the final product. You go for the whole experience not soley the food. The staff are attentive, helpful and very polite. Definately recomend for something different to do but would suggest only on a Top Table deal as expensive otherwise."

  • "Greta food and great entertainment with the chef cooking front of you. we loved it!"

  • "Decided to try Benihana as we were taking my brother and young niece out to dinner and I though it might keep my niece entertained. It certainly did the trick as she was mesmerized by the chef's skills! Food was really good and you get quite a lot too. The staff were all very polite and attentive, and the chef especially was very engaging."

  • "Place is lacking of some TLC. The staff was friendly although a bit robotic. The preparation of food is impressive as chefs do make an effort. food is OK but standards have lowered."
    dined on 12/06/2013
  • "It's all about cooking skills. Brought the kids for lunch and they were mesmerised by the chief. You won't be paying attention to the food. If you are.. Is standard tepanyaki. You are paying for the experience rather than the food. But it's defiantly worth going! Aside.. The dessert was really good! Try the battered sponge ice-cream!"
    dined on 17/07/2013
  • "booked for a birthday. the kids love the spectacle. I don't think the toptable offer is any different to what they offer anyone."
    dined on 05/07/2013
  • "Decor slightly tired. Service slow and inattentive. Food poor. The quality of the meat was appalling. The chicken was tasteless and the beef tender but tasteless. The egg fried rice was also tasteless. This is simple food expensively provided, with poor quality ingredients. The personal chef was however the best part of the experience, very obliging. I would not recommend this restaurant, it need to review its food sources, decor and service."
    dined on 03/07/2013
  • "This branch of Benihana is quite local to me but I haven't been there now for a number of years. The decor has changed quite considerably but the main premise of the teppanyaki grills remain the same. Our chef was great very engaging - I recommend the dinner offer - very feeling and great value for money. My boyfriend was less impressed with the seafood udon noodles but we would definitely return."

  • "It seemed to take forever to get drinks and for the whole peformance and the atmosphere was a bit too airless sweaty for my liking"

  • "They had chef hats for the children and special children's menu. And the chefs are so engaging with the children in entertaining them. They loved to eat the yummy food which they just saw how it was cooked. Also, they took pictures of the family and had it made up onto a special card especially for father's day. My son was so proud to show it in school the next day."
