A word from Bellaria Restaurant & Wine Bar
Absolutely, charmingly unique, the Bellaria Restaurant and Wine Bar in London’s upmarket Fitzrovia is a must for those tiring of the same old dining experience. From street level, Bellaria is quite simple – a pleasant, attractive Italian restaurant with an inviting atmosphere, bright and simple décor and the best seats of the house in daylight hours are by the wide windows where one can watch the world go by. However, a few steps below and guests are transported to a whole other world. Bellaria’s basement level truly is straight out of an ancient fairytale, its bare stone walls with their arches, nooks and crannies complemented by chandeliers and trickster mirrors, low lighting casting a golden glow. It’s the ideal setting for romance and a real surprise to everyone who discovers it. Continued

  • "We always enjoy having dinner here with friends and family. Good food in a friendly atmosphere."

  • "I went to Bellaria with a couple of friends. It was a special occasion for me because I didn't see them for long time and I'm not disappointed. The waiting staff was superb: they are very friendly and made us feel welcome. There is a great choice of Italian wines (if you need some recommendation, the head waiter seemed very knowledgeable). Food was outstanding: generous portions, well presented. We had the aubergine millefeuille and the meat board...and they were to die for! As a main courses we had the monkfish with king prawns and black ink rice and the pumpkin tortellini...they were amazing! Many compliments to the chef! Try the coconut and lime mousse! We'll back."

  • "Booket Bellaria at last minute for lunch with a friend , we have seated outside in the sunshine , the service is very friendly and attentive, we had the salmon in mint jelly and calamari as starter and sea food tagliolini and the monk fish as main , portion are generous so we didn't have space for the dessert . the food is very well presented and taste very fresh ,highly reccomended."

  • "The waiter was very 'away with the fairies’ and obviously wasn’t concentrating when we said our choices as had to repeat the order a couple of times.Starters were nice but the plates were soon quickly cleared up and the mains were bought out. 1/2 of the mains were lovely while the other half were below satisfaction. Our mum had to ask for her fish to be cooked as it was raw. The waiter was like ummm oh you want it cooked more? It wasn’t cooked at all! There was no apologies and our mum had to wait another 10mins for her main. They then again whipped the plates away and kept asking us if we wanted desert. The restaurant wasn’t packed so we had no idea why they were being so pushy. We were glad we used the 50% deal otherwise would have been"

  • "Friday night for my wife and I. Having seen the reviews we asked for a table downstairs which was really quite nice. Not as noisy as I feared but I was seated on the route to the ladies so got bumped a few times. We started with the grilled baby aubergines and the oven baked aubergines which were both fresh, tasty and well presented. For mains we had the sea bass and the lamb shank. Both were pretty bland, the lamb over cooked and the sea bass dull. The service and the attention was good throughout but let down by the food."

  • "Let's start with the positives: the staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. The evening started to go downhill at my first taste of wine, which was nasty and tasted cheap. I don't even know where to start with the food. We both ordered cheese to start, which was deep fried in breadcrumbs and seemed like it was straight out the freezer section of the supermarket. For main I had pasta with aubergine and mozzerella, which has no seasoning and was very bland. My poor friend ordered squid ink pasta with scallops and was rewarded with a plate of black tar, it just looked so unappealing. We both ordered a second glass of (different) wine, which were horrible too. Even at 50% off this was too expensive for a disgusting meal."

  • "Good value with the deal. As with other customers, downstairs has more atmosphere and so would recommend asking for a table there."

  • "We booked with the 50% off deal, what you get is really good value. Some of the drinks are pretty expensive (4£ / coke). Service was great throughout the evening. Would recommend and we'll go again."

  • "After reading reviews, I had requested to sit downstairs, but although it looked very cute, I felt that the tables in the alcove were just a little too snug and there was a definite damp smell. Not a good start, had a quick word with the waiter who immediately moved us upstairs. Food was excellent , good sized portions and the waiting staff were great. I will definitely be back Thank you"

  • "The restaurant had a really nice atmosphere and at half price was relatively cheap."

  • "I was actually rather disappointed with Bellaria, the food was just so boring and not really authentic Italian. There are many great Italian restaurants in London providing fresh vibrant food, but this wasn't one of them.Nice staff and good service though."
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "The service was what I still remember. The staff were extremely attentive but equally not over-intrusive. The wine waiter was knowledeable about the wines on offer and was not doing a "hard sell" on any one in particular. The food was delicious and well presented. The tables in the restaurant (downstairs) were not too close together so there was sufficient privacy. Overall a very enjoyable evening."

  • "My husband thought I was going mad when I made him take me to bellaria for my birthday , well this is not very special was his comment , he soon shut up when we were lead downstairs ,we had a fabulous meal staff really looked after us , made to feel really welcome , will go back to this little hidden gem ."

  • "Birthday celebration and a fine meal. Recommended!"

  • "A lovely restaurant, with all the trimmings. It had a very traditional and authentic feel. The food portion sizes are very large, particularly the pasta dishes, however the staff are more than happy to guide you in this regard. The manager and staff were one of the best aspects of our experience being a large birthday group party. Would recommend to friends, for groups or intimate dates."

  • "Although there is a perfectly good street level restaurant, if you want atmosphere, be sure to book downstairs. I find (with advancing years) that lack of soft furnishing to absorb the noise makes business discussion difficult. However the atmosphere is great for social occasions. The service is excellent while it has the relaxed feel of a family business. I shall be going back and would heartily recommend this little bit of Italy."

  • "Nice romantic restaurant, particularly downstairs. The service is fantastic, and the food delicious. We had a discount from toptable, which was good. Though a word of caution - you only get 25% on the signature dishes (but 50% on the rest). The one negative i'd say about the place is it felt damp in there."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "But not great either! Food was okay, service was seemingly friendly and also child-friendly (but did not make any any substantive changes to positively encourage kids). Good 50% toptable offer, else it would seemed overpriced to me. Big party next to us seemed to enjoy it though....and we were a bit early in the evening and not in the best part of the restaurant, which may all add to a better ambience, etc."
    dined on 02/09/2013
  • "Went for a dinner date, expecting lovely food. In reality the food is, at best, average. We had deep fried brie for starter which was obviously from a packet. Not very appertising at all. Mains were chicken with gorgonzola sauce which was overcooked and completely covered in sauce to the point that one could not taste the chicken; and the lamb shank - which was ok, but the mask was a bit of a disappointment. We did not have any desserts. Overall experience was poor"
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "Food was good and a good selection - also good value thanks to the TT offer. Service was excellent. Very attentive without being intrusive. Atmosphere also very nice particularly downstairs (I would agree that upstairs is definitely lacking in atmosphere). Only problem downstairs is tables are a bit cramped. Otherwise, no complaints at all and would return."

  • "The downstairs area of the restaurant looks a little more inviting but unfortunately this was not open at lunchtime, Food and service were fine"

  • "Lovely restaurant. Food was delicious with generous portions. They were 7 of us (1 child). Service was attentive. Some of us were early. We were taken straight to our table. They brought us bread for the table while we wait for the others to arrive. I had Calamari for starter ....beautifully presented in a basket. Main was beef ragu tagliatelle. Again a good portion. I was already so full half way I couldn't finish it (which is rare as I usually finish my food!). Downside is they don't serve spaghetti and pizza which was what one of us wanted and expected. She thought that an Italian restaurant should have these options on their menu. Anyway she was pleased with the dishes she ordered that evening. All in all a good dining experience"

  • "We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Bellaria - especially good value with the Toptable 50% off deal. Unfortunately the otherwise very attractive restaurant is badly let down by the Gents toilets which are in great need of a complete overhaul. Just before leaving the restauarant, I asked one of my fellow female diners about the Ladies loos, which she similarly described as needing a makeover."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "My meal wasn't bad. I had the lamb pasta which was wonderful and not too big a portion. But my mum had a baby aubergine starter that wasn't cooked and then a very disappointing fish dish. Very average if i'm honest, over-priced too."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "We took advantage of the 50% Toptable offer on starters and mains which meant the food was very good value. Intimate surroundings downstairs, excellent service but quite informal and not noisy so conversation was easy. Plenty of variety on the menu, interesting Italian wine list including a very good Emilia Romagna Sangiovese. Highly recommended."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Fresh and tastie food. Ok wine list. Lack of ambience on the first floor, so request table downstairs."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Went there last Sunday for lunch with the Toptable offer. We were the only ones when we arrived at around 2pm but the place soon filled up. Did not eat downstairs (have heard is very nice there!). Food was all excellent. My wife loved her sea bass in particular (also the cheese board) and I thoroughly enjoyed the lamb ravioli and the house special scallops with Panetta. We wanted to try the pasta (we had starters) so they served us a half portion each before our mains which was good of them. Excellent wine recommendation and a really enjoyable 3 hours was had by both of us. Will be coming back for sure!"

  • "The atmosphere here was good but i have to say it can sometimes be hard to hear your partner as its so loud & your so squashed up downstairs in the restaurant. The food was absolutely lovely but crazily over-priced. Had it not been for top tables discount, it would of left an extremly sore taste in my mouth. Summary, nice place but too expensive and i doubt i am inclined to go back. Side note, staff are absolutely lovely and accomidating though"

  • "We had a very warm welcome and attentive service without being hurried. We had a table downstairs which was quiet with a cosy ambiance without being on top of other tables. The food was excellently prepared, cooked and presented. Overall a memorable, romantic meal, and would certainly return again using the top table offers."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "If you are lucky and your table is downstairs, you will be able to enjoy a great experience, with a nice cave surronded by stone and a romantic atmosphere. The price is very reasonable (they are applying 25% of discount to signature dishes and 50% to the rest) and the service is very kind and is around every now and then without being intrusive. The only thing I wouldn't like fully was the tagliatelle with seafood. They used salmon as ingredient and I think the result was a too heavy dish, also taking over the flavour of the rest of the ingredients. The rest of the food was delicious."

  • "We've been to Bellaria on Valentine's day and were impressed with the great and friendly ambience and really tasty food. We will definitely visit it again."

  • "On a cold and windy February day, the atmosphere was warm and the service was swift and friendly. My husband's calamari was light and delicious and his cod and fine green beans wrapped in pancetta was declared as one of the best dishes he has ever tasted. I had the salmon with spinach accompanied by Italian mash which was incredibly tasty but, for the diet conscious, is definitely off the menu. It was refreshing to find a restaurant in central London which has real fish options alongside delicious sounding pasta and meat dishes. We have taken a card and we will be going back."

  • "We were given a lovely table downstairs. Although there were a couple of bigger table around us, the service was very attentive and the meal was delicious. Would definitely go again."

  • "We attended this restaurant for valentines day, it was very romantic and created a very relaxed atmosphere. Food was nice, (the avocado and crab, didn't go down too well) other than that the food was lovely. The service was excellent, felt very looked after and personal attention was great considering how busy it was. Would recommend this place to any couple wanting to have a special night"

  • "We arrived with a smile from all the team. The restaurant was decorated in a valentines style , nice touches all around , the rose petals on the table were lovely. Waiting team looked after us well and tried their best to do their job to the best of their abilities. The food was delicious. The beef was amazing ! We will come back to try the a la carte menu soon"
