A word from Barbecoa
Barbecoa is a celebration of traditional fire-based cooking and incredible ingredients. Founded by Jamie Oliver, it’s much more than a steak restaurant. Our in-house butchers handpick and prepare the very best meat in Britain, then our chefs cook beautiful modern dishes using Texas pit smokers, tandoors, fire pits, robata grills and wood-fired ovens. As you sit at your table overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral, you’ll feel the heat, see the flames lick and the smoke drift upwards from our open kitchen.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Wow is all that we could say at the end of our meal. The most amazing food we have ever experienced. The service, our waiter Joyce on Tuesday 15/4/2014 was the best waiter we have ever had in a restaurant, friendly, attentive, great knowledge of the restaurant I could not speak more highly of her. We have not stopped raving about the restaurant and our impeccable experience to all of our family and friends. We can not speak more highly of our whole experience, from arrival to departure. I hope that this review can be passed onto management and Jamie himself as it has just blown us away that words can not describe how amazing our experience was."

  • "Really enjoyed watching the huge steaks being cooked on the fire pit! Service was excellent. Wine a bit pricey though."

  • "Factory like not at all Jamie Oliver, too big, too noises, too many people, too close. Very, very expensive for what you got, steak very tasty but over cooked. Overall we were glad we went for the experience but we're disappointed that it felt so big and inpersonal, we were looking forward to an eclectic Jamie Oliver experience and got a mass dining experience that cost us over £100 for 2 and that was for only one course and no wine! NB: I also don't like being told to pay service charge as standard. This should always be an option for the dinner to decide not a straight 12.5% included. That spoilt things even more."

  • "Amazing friendly staff, amazing view of St. Paul's cathedral, lovely atmosphere, very nicely decorated, there could have been more choices for chicken dishes, and they do not serve a normal larger like peroni or becks more strange flowery tasting beers which were not very nice in my opinion. A shared starter, 2 mains and 2 drinks each will set you back around £80! Give it a try if you like steak with a view as a special occasion as it would be hard to afford to go on a regular basis!"

  • "I took my fiancee here for an early birthday celebratory dinner this past Saturday, April 13, and we loved it. Our first waitress was quite curt and abrupt and told us we had to order our entrees along with her appetizers as the kitchen was quite busy. We were a bit taken aback by this, however another waitress appeared later as we were about to order desert and coffee and took us to a table overlooking St. Pauls (as there were now seats available there) - she was extremely pleasant and truly made our night - her name is Claudia. She should be commended for her wonderful personality and professionalism. She really made our night a whole lot more special!"

  • "We went to Barbecoa and everything in this fantastic place was outstanding. The food was the best we ever had, it was well prepaired/cooked the service was professionel and very friendly and the location with the view was just fantastic. This is for sure a place to visit in London."

  • "the restaurant was lovey fantastic views and service was great. food was lovely and would definitely go back"

  • "My dad ran the London marathon and as an accelerating incentive we booked the Barbecoa weeks in advance. The steaks were excellent, with clever sides and amazing deserts. Outstanding service, best we've seen so far in London. All in all a great experience we'd recommend this restaurant to anybody."

  • "my husband and I really enjoyed the food here, we were told the steak is the best course to choose and I'm glad we tried it, the portion was more than enough and the sides are better to share. Our waiter was very helpful in recommending certain dishes and was very attentive. It was a great atmosphere and I will definitely be going back!"

  • "12.5% tip automatically added to the bill along with a charity donation. The food wasn't the best and have had better at cheaper places. The chips were undercooked and the service was too quick and fussy at first then they forgot about us towards the end. Though I was going to leave a tip I thought it was very cheeky to automatically add it to the bill along with a charity donation to Jamie's kitchen."

  • "Went there for dinner while spending a weekend in London. Expectations where fulfilled, liked the smoky aroma of the food. Deserts where nice as well, but the cheesecake was more like a kind of panna cotta, so not what I had in mind."

  • "Excellent value the only thing was one of our party is a vegetarian and there was no choice for them on the menu"

  • "Had dinner on a Saturday evening with my partner. It was very busy, but that seems normal for a weekend. It made it a but noisy though. Service was really good, we had a starter and a main. Both choose the pulled pork as a main. For me the flavour was personally a bit too smoky but my other half loved it. Quite filling, the portions are not small. All and all a nice meal and good service. Would come here again."

  • "I wanted to go there for a long time and was not disappointed by the food, we had 3 different meats and all were fantastic. The restaurant itself was also great (you can see those enormous pieces of meat being cooked - not the usual little BBQ...!!!), although my only regret is that it was quite loud. We had a table for two and I wish it was smaller as I could barely hear what my boyfriend was saying. Other than this detail (some may be more sensitive to noise than other) it tasted so great I cannot wait to go again."

  • "The entrees were not good... The steaks are not good enough for the price paid. The deserts were very good."

  • "Unfortunately this experience was a big disappointment. We had to wait 45 minutes for our booked table, the Duck Fat Fried Chips were cold, the replacement chips were hard and we could not hear ourselves because the noise of other diners and conversations was just overpowering. The dessert seemed like it had seen better days. Having said that, the view was stunning, the starters were excellent, the meat was the best I've tasted in the UK beautifully prepared and cooked. The Colombian Hot Chocolate was excellent! What a shame about the rest."
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "quite overpriced for what it is.. chateaubriand was really good, but the other dishes were average and too pricey for what they are. this includes the wine"
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "We ordered Chateau Briand. The meat was perfectly cooked. However the side orders spinach, carrots, the "mushroom" gravy was so so. And we were very disappointet that one of the side orders was not even available! No truffle.... For the given price we have also expected a better quality meat or something more special. (something that I would have difficulty to do my self) We also orderred deserts, some chocolat brownie and a lemon and maruenge pie...They were super delicious, It is these deserts that raised our rating from so so to Good and that we felt we got value for the money. I will recommend my friends who loves meat (and has no fancy desires concerning the meat) and who loves elaborate, delicious deserts to visit the restaruant."

  • "The brilliant service just about won me over. The portions were small and aside from the pulled pork, not exhibiting a huge amount of flavour. Expected more. However, service was attentive, smart and fun. My real complaint was the seating arrangements, had booked dinner early to ensure that we had a table overlooking St Pauls. Placed us in an empty restaurant by the toilets down the back with a view of an office block. Was prepared to walk out but enquired whether a table was available with a view of St Pauls and we were moved. Given that the food was not up to much, the view was the best thing about eating at Barbecoa, even if it was partially blocked by the hideous 1960 concrete monstrosity of St Pauls school."
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "We had to wait for our 8pm table for an hour, the food was quite heavy and there was a very loud and stressful atmosphere. The bill was really high and I didn't feel the food justified it."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Could not fault the food it was wonderful. It is expensive but at the end of the day you get what you pay for! I haven't given five stars for the following reasons. Food : Desserts : was looking forward to the Lemon Meringue but not enough meringue. Service : Couldn't understand the waiter. Ambience : too noisy Value : very expensive."

  • "I was expecting the best steak I had every eaten, it wasn't. The bill came to £385 for 2 starters, 1 nibbles, 3 steaks, 3 sides, 2 desserts, 2 cocktails and 2 bottles of wine. Not being from London maybe this represents value for money, but I did not think so. The wine was very good but at £70 a bottle I should hope so, as were the cocktails the food however was average, in fact the food at Jamie's Italian has more flavour and is a lot better. The steak was ok but I was expecting better and the sides were poor, cold mushrooms, chips shrivelled and the side salad was as if it had just come out of a bag. The ribs as a starter had flavour but the pigs cheek didn't, the pork scratching also were nice. The cheese cake desserts was also good."

  • "Went to Barbecoa to celebrate my son's 21st, and had a very enjoyable evening. Everything was as expected , very helpful staff, great food, great atmosphere. I asked for a table with a view of St Paul's, couldn't have been better. All round, a great choice for our occasion."

  • "This is the second time we've been, first was for our anniversary, this time to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food is amazing, cooked to perfection, as you would expect. And very flavoursome. Great, would highly recommend."

  • "I requested a window table and this was provided, service was very good with all waiters and waitresses very friendly and professional. The food was amazing, starters the large Rib-eye and pudding, perfectly cooked. I would recommend this to anyone and will be making another visit"

  • "We (Mum, Dad and two kids) had a lovely time and some of the food was very good. In particular, the Crispy Pig Cheeks were lovely as was the Sea Bass which was on special. However, a starter and a main each with a couple of drinks really didn't deserve the £250 price tag. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not worth that money. Having recently tried Duck & Waffle, I would recommend that particular restaurant over this one both for all round experience and food quality. Sorry, Jamie. Even the exceptional views of St Paul's Cathedral didn't distract my eventual gaze from the bill."

  • "Upon entering I was not quite sure what to expect. Lots of steel and when walking up the stairs it reminded me of "Masterchef" with the restaurants own illuminated icon greeting you at the top. Amazing beer on draught. The Freedom lager was very smooth and the dark lager very malty. Some very good value wines available along with the more prestigous you would ecpect in such a restaurant. Amazing olives and pork scratchings which if choosen , accompany pre dinner drinks very well. Main course steak was as expected - good quality and cooked perfectly as requested. The sides were good value in my opinion with good portions and some nice finishing touches. For me, the service was outstanding without being obtrusive."

  • "We came here for dinner. Starters were OK. Rump steak - way overcooked (asked for MR) and salty. For that price level - very disappointing. The service, however, was good."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Had the tiger prawns for starters, was average, quite bland. Mains had short rib in worcester sauce with mash. The meat was very tender which was very good, the sauce wasn't to my tasting but maybe not suited to my taste which is not of the restaurant fault. Partner had chicken which I personally thought was bland after trying some. My mash was made well and the side of creamy spinach had good consistency but was bland by my liking. Ambience on other side of restaurant seemed good, maybe a good place for groups especially, personally wouldnt return."

  • "I took my mum here for mothers day and had a fantastic evening, cocktails were delicious .... pornstars martinis slipped down very easily. Food is well priced and definately worth the money as plenty of it. We both had the chicken and loved it but were too full for pudding. This was a shame as the brownie looked extremely appetizing!!!"

  • "The service, food & ambience were all wonderful. It's a very unique restaurant for all occasions."
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "First of all, the view from our table of St Pauls Cathedral was lovely. A nice way to start a meal. The service was very good. All the staff were very attentive. The menu choices were quite good, but would of been nice to see something like chicken that didn't come smothered in a sauce. And a larger range of vegetables would of been nice to see. There wasn't a children's menu at all. We were just told that children can have a mini burger and chips. So I wouldn't really call it child friendly. My fathers steak also was overcooked. However my prawn starter and my dessert of the chocolate and salted caramel sundae was divine. All in all a nice meal and a nice evening out."

  • "Having been to Barbecoa many times and always enjoyed it, I had a disappointing experience recently. Not only was the meat (short rib) small, but it was also overcooked and to add insult to injury, bright sunshine meant that the blinds had to be closed blocking out the view of St. Paul's :-("
    dined on 03/03/2014
  • "Situated across from St. Paul's, diners enjoy a spectacular view alongside wonderful food. Of course the menu is meat-heavy and the prices are high, but it is worth it for a special occasion."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "The food was delicious, from the starters (tandoori prawns & beef tartare) to mains, which we had with a selection of sides, all of which were amazing (aubergine caviar and creamy spinach especially!), to pudding and drinks. The waitress was polite, efficient, and helpful but not too pushy, she made our evening nice and easy. The ambience is fine, the view onto St Paul's adds to the evening but it does get a bit hot as the kitchen is half-open. It also got a bit loud and I wished they had turned down the music a bit. But those were minor issues,we had a great time overall, the food is really good, although nothing beats Jamie's 15! This place is also far better than the neighbouring Bread Street Kitchen (though probably not for veggies!)"
