About Babylon at The Roof Gardens
Situated 100 feet above London’s Kensington High Street, Babylon at the Roof Gardens has established itself as one of London’s most impressive restaurants. The dining room is an elegant and contemporary space with a subtle ‘nature’ theme, emphasised by vivid greens and leaf motifs. But it’s the views over the spectacular acre and a half of rooftop gardens that make Babylon at the Roof Gardens feel like an aerie hideaway in the middle of the metropolis. Popular with local high-flyers and well-dressed foodies, Babylon at the Roof Gardens restaurant offers a classic British menu that changes with the seasons to feature the freshest seasonal produce. We love the sautéed diver scallops with smoked bacon and the tender fillet of Scottish beef with a rich Madeira jus. Be sure to leave room for the dessert – Babylon’s apricot and Cointreau soufflé is a sensation. As you would expect, the service is impeccable and the wine list is full of handpicked gems.

Babylon at The Roof Gardens Ratings and Reviews
I love this place
Attentive staff, wonderful food, exceptional cocktails. The ambience of this place is just perfect as it is so relaxing and you cant fail to enjoy. The lighting and decor is so nice and the tables cosy.I didnt want to leave,in fact I think I was the last to leave.
Extraordnaryly good lunch
When we went to this restaurant two years ago the food was a little disappointing, but this time it was outstanding. Tasty, thoughtful and interesting menu + warm and friendly service. The setting is unbeatable. Probably better in the summer when the flamingos are not wet, but even though it's on the expensive side - it is worth every penny.
Excellent food, service and value.
Beautiful venue, terrific menu options. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable. We are looking forward to our next visit.
A birthday treat
Everything was perfect, from the pre-lunch drink overlooking the garden, to the three course fixed price meal. This was a surprise birthday treat, which was amazing value, felt special and featured some unusual and delicious things. Service was impeccable and staff were all helpful and friendly. It wasn't my first visit and it won't be my last.
A Great Experience
This was our first time at the restaurant and from the welcome we received from the staff in the downstairs reception through the wonderful lunch to all the care of staff upstairs, we had one great experience. We will certainly be back.
Too many questions
We had a lovely experience, but one thing I would change was the waiters asking us how each course was, and sometimes more waiters asked us that question about the same course. A total of 9 times throughout one meal! Apart from that it is a great place.

Friendly waitress and generally very helpful staff. White tomato soup was light and delicious, such an elegant dish.
Lunch at the Babylon Roof Gardens
After reading such wonderful reviews we booked a table for lunch. We received a very warm welcome from Antonio and he showed us to our table. We ordered our meal from a waitress who was completely disinterested in us and our requirements. The wine waiter was a little more helpful. We had a small table for two which, as you would expect, was set with cutlery and glasses. Our drinks came but the empty glasses were not removed so when our meals arrived it was cluttered and we had difficulties. We asked for the glasses to be removed, but felt we were being a nuisance. Most of the waiting staff were unfriendly and unattentive. The food was good, nicely presented and delicious (thank you chef). My husband ordered cheese and biscuits, I declined but when his arrived I changed my mind and asked for the dessert menu. It was about 3.30 pm and the restaurant was almost empty, so after waiting 20 mins, I was fed up and decided to pay and leave. We said our goodbyes to Antonio and sadly told him we hadn't enjoyed our experience, the service hadn't been good and we hadn't been made to feel special. He must have told his manager because the next day I received a call apologising for our disappointing experience. He was charming and grateful for my comments. He invited us back as his guests and would text or email me the next day with all his details. Did I get it, no, of course I didn't!
Everything great except for the chicken ...
Everything great except for the chicken lasagne - very greasy and the chicken escalope had chewy bits
The weather does make a difference to a day out, but everything was perfect, the sun shone and we took a dear friend for her eightieth birthday lunch. The waiters were very attentive and the three of us being foodies, we were not disappointed. Although there was an event on in the gardens, as these were one of the reasons for going, we were delighted when we were given a private tour! Have told all our friends about our experience and would love to come again.
Disappointing - noisy, bland food, no loos
Nice setting but very noisy. Service was very rapid, no break between courses. Forgot to give us bread. Salmon starter was miniscule, chicken with pasta, potato, leek and egg was bland and simply didn't work. One of the worst combinations I've ever eaten. Dessert and petit fours were ok, coffee rather bitter. The loos were all out of order though this may have been beyond their control as loos in adjoining M&S also out of order. Thank heaven for the Golden Arches across the road!
Babylon at The Roof Garden
Always good place for lunch particularly when decent weather, sadly this time it was raining so didn't venture outside but still cracking lunch.
Nice and sunny lunch
Stunning view and outdoor terrasse, for a peaceful lunch in the middle of ugh street kensington. High level food: creative, well-presented and delicious. Inside deco is a bit old fashioned, but the view takes advantage everything else, so no big deal. Definitely to be recommended for a high standard lunch.
Always lives up to expectations. Have introduced 10 friends to Babylon and it never disappoints.
Food with a view
We had drinks on the terrace and I could show my Catalan friend the gardens below. We had both been out for lunch so we only had a main course. Our wait person was delightful and knowledgeable about wine. So not a long meal but very enjoyable.
Full enjoy it
We went for my 40! Lovely atmosphere, excellent food for us and the children!
Superb service, beautiful food, and great atmosphere. It was a pity we could not access the gardens.
Lunch at roof gardens
The location is lovely and the food was good. Cannot fault the service of our waiter but there was a complete mess up with my reservation - the restaurant said they had no record even though I had confirmation from open table that it was booked. Found this very frustrating and luckily they got a table for us anyway. Not sure what the problem was but it could have been a disaster if the restaurant was full. Not sure if this is the fault of Open table or the Roof Gardens but I hope the system is rectified. This was the reason for my low service rating - I understand it may not be the restaurants fault.
Lovely view - if only it hadnt been raining!
Gorgeous food, very good service. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain so we couldnt take full advantage of the view
I treated my husband to cocktails and a meal for his 60 th Birthday. It was a great experience looking out over London and seeing the lovely gardens. The staff were great and even did him a little Birthday cake with candles when I mentioned it was his Birthday. All in all a memorable experience
Excellent food, settings and service
I went to this restaurant on a recommendation for my birthday and I was very glad I did. The staff were very professional and polite and their attention was second to none, the surroundings and venue was excellent and views from the terrace amazing. The meal we had was lovely, a little small but tasted fantastic, the set menus is well worth it, I've already recommended to my friends and colleagues and will definitely visit again. The birthday cupcake they gave me was also a wonderful touch :-)

This was the second time I have eaten here. The set menu is varied and the food excellent and well presented. The tables are set fairly close together but the atmosphere in general is lively and not stuffy. Good attentive service which is pretty quick at lunchtime.
Outstanding service & quality
Staff were super attentive, our set menu lunch was delicious. Previous posts had conplained about portion size but we found it fine & only ordered one side between us. Wine list great. We would definitely recommend!
Like being back at school.
The service was dreadful. Had to sit with my hand in the air, to catch waiting staff's eye. Even then, I had to wave before being noticed. Food was good. Garden and the Flamingos were gorgeous.
Lovely Summer Lunch
From the moment you arrive the staff could not be more helpful or friendly, before you go to your table you can have a drink either at the bar or on the balcony overlooking part of the gardens. The service was very efficient without being too rushed. We chose to eat off the set menu & thought the food was lovely & fresh, light & perfect for a summer lunch. We took our coffee outside & enjoyed the view. We were disappointed to find out that the gardens were closed for a private function & are not really part of the restaurant, we chose this restaurant for my birthday lunch & to see the gardens were the main draw. However the staff had remembered that it was my birthday & bought me a lovely dessert with a chocolate "Happy Birthday" We would chose to eat there again.
Always a good place to bring visitors to London
I often think of Babylon for a special occasion venue, especially when welcoming visitors to London. Of course the view from the terrace is a delight for pre dinner drinks. Our waiter explained the history of the building. The dinning room is very smart. Great cocktail list and menu. A little expensive but to be expected.
A good but not outstanding restaurant
The view is not that great, especially during the day, the grass is artificial; the menu is limited, no everyday specials. The cocktails are average. A good place to order a drink a sit outside, on the terrace.

I had a very pleasant evening at Babylon. The first thing you notice when you arrive is the fantastic view over London and the Kensington roof gardens. The Babylon is at it's best on a sunny summers day and you can't go wrong taking in the view whilst sipping a few cocktails on the terrace. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty, the selection of breads was particularly good. The menu is not large but well chosen enough to satisfy most palates. The service at Babylon was impeccable a really gold standard experience, striking exactly the right balance between attentive and over bearing. Babylon is not a cheap restaurant but in my opinion well worth the money.
Aesthetics somewhat trumps the food
Went on a lovely summer evening for dinner at Babylon and can only come away with positive things. Just..not as a positive as I was hoping. The main draw is the Sky Garden. It is beautiful and the terrace surrounding the restaurant is a lovely place to stay for a drink, chat with friends or catch up with that special someone. The view is extraordinary and a very relaxed, comfortable space. The dishes were pleasant without striking much surprise or curiosity. If you are looking for a solid, well rounded meal then Babylon is your place. If you want to explore new flavours, try something out of the ordinary, then there are others that do it better.
Restaurant was very nice and food lovely but we were incredibly disappointed that we cudnt go in the gardens! Corporate booking meant we got a tiny view of side garden! Really upset as that was big part of going!

Overpriced - beware of upselling Venue and ambience were great. Staff for the most part were fantastic but I was unimpressed with whom I think was the manager on duty. While upselling is a big part of the hospitality industry. leading a customer astray is not. It was our first time trying oysters and the manager said great- 12 or 24? Obviously went for the lower option as it was our first time. Turns out they are not for us and left 10 behind us. A different waitress that ending up taking our plates said "you know you could have order one to try right" and we said we weren't given that option. She was as embarrassed as we were. No recovery on this but a fine bill for the oysters at the end. Cancelled upcoming booking. Disappointed
service was slow - would expect and higher service
richard branson had it right, perfect location, amazing view BUT don't forget the client! it takes ages to get served , amateur service. Great place to see and to be seen ,outstanding view of London but that isn't enough . food is great but not excellent. long queue with "nice people" at the elevator to get it . again , location location location, great for a drink or 2 but may be not for dinner (especially an important one...)
Restaurant is on seventh floor with views over London. Roof gardens are magnificent(but often closed for private bookings). Service was impeccable and cocktails and food delicious though portions , particularly of starters and desserts, were extremely small. Tables on the small size for groups.
Really nice place and great views but...
The place is really, really nice. The outdoor space is amazing. Service was ok but not great. Food not exceptional considering the price and portions are pretty small too. Overall it was an ok experience but mainly due to the location and views rather then for the food itself.
Love love love...
The Babylon chain. This was my first visit to the Roof Garden and I expect that I will become a regular! The views were amazing and the food and the service certainly complimented it.
Door hosts are very rude!!! The staff upstairs are very good and friendly
Wonderful dinner overlooking London!
The restaurant is above the roof gardens club with spectacular views over London. The food is very tasty, but portions are quiet small. I did mention it to the manager and he said they will take it on board, which I thought was a nice gesture. There is a complimentary assess to the club which we happily used as we dined late in evening. Service was good, outside terrace is amazing especially if you get lucky with weather. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent venue with excellent service!
I've been here before......55 years ago!!!! The roof garden then belonged to Derry & Toms and my cousin took me there for lunch. Obviously it is nothing like it was then but I always wanted to return, mainly to see the gardens, which I have to say were a delight, especially the flamingos and the pretty ducks. This time I visited with three other friends that I first met at school, between 59 and 55 years ago!! We had the most amazing time. From the cocktails to the wonderful starters and main courses and the cheeseboard and wine. I urge you to go to this very special restaurant, you really will not be disappointed.

It was busy when we went to lunch (the set menu is not only reasonable but had a great selection to choose from, no wonder it's so popular) but although it was busy it was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I truly don't understand the negative reviews, we had a fantastic time and would recommend this to anyone.
I treated a friend to a birthday lunch. i was wary as, having been before but only for group events, some of the reviews commented on the less than satisfactory nature of the food: very slow, very small portions, etc. We were impressed by how quickly we were served and, while the portions were not large, the food was very tasty. We also enjoyed getting a small box of chocolates with every coffee we ordered. It was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.
